hi everyone we're inside Arthur rash Stadium I'm Chris mckendry with James Blake and Renee stubs welcome to Fan week this is such an incredible experience fan week Eric buak at the USDA doing an incredible job and we're getting to see these stars have fun I mean we get to see them and practice some but now we're bringing back some real Legends of the game and get to see them interact with the crowd again uh what what a fun experience for these fans I am so pumped for this I mean we are so pumped for the US Open we've been here already for a couple of days with qualifying fan week is incredible it keeps increasing in with the things that they're giving to the fans and tonight we're going to see some of the great champions of all time out here playing against the current great Champion so I mean I'm just I'm ready to have a good time we have four matches coming up each match will play one 10-point tie break so they will get into the tennis quickly all the players are miked up we're going to hear a lot of talking first matchup will be bartini and palini she's a two-time grand slam finalist this year taking on Corda and a five-time grand slam champion in igus fiant alarz and agasse macenroe and jokovic are you kidding me with that second match satini welcome back to New York and Juan Martin del poo Caroline wasaki teams with Andy rodic Taylor Townson and the actor but very good player Boris podo taking on Sloan Stevens and Francis tifo who has had the time of his life usually each and every US Open what's your take I mean again I'm so excited Francis TFO was at the Liberty game last night basketball now he's coming out here he's going to have his own show giving it to the fans I mean it's just amazing but I mean let's face it we're all kind of looking forward to Johnny Mack coming out and Carlos and Andre I mean it's going to be amazing of course NOC jovic I can't wait to see Del poo come back here I mean he he the last non- European to win of this slam here on the men's side and he's just a gentle giant so I think the crowd will really react to him him being back he's such an emotional guy I think he's going to be he's going to be a lot of fun to watch tonight and Gabby sabatini I mean the Argentinian I mean look we're just so excited we obviously played with some of those great Champions and to see them back here and giving the crowd a a memorable night of of the past and the future that's what the US Open have done so well through the last couple of years it's been 15 years since Juan Martin del poo won this title 2018 he lost to Novak jokovic powered her way up the rankings this year topping out at number five in the world after reaching finals at Roland garos and Wimbledon from Italy please welcome Olympic gold medalist Jasmine palini [Applause] and her partner warming up in the ad courts is the Wimbledon runnerup in 2021 reaching a career high of world number six the following year he owns 10 career singles titles including a trio of them just this year in 2024 he's also from Italy say hello to mato bartini [Applause] and to the chair umpires are right warming up in the adpt he won his second and biggest ATP Tour singles title this summer in Washington DC and recently achieved a career high ranking of number 15 in I welcome you back it's fan week Stars at the open our first match tonight two Wimbledon finalists the Italian team taking on the five-time major champion andas fiant and Sebastian Corda of the USA calling our matches tonight Al be it with players completely miked up Patrick back in row Mary Joe Fernandez jump in when you can we're going to have a lot of help out hereen Chris that we don't need to do our job up here or we're we're excited to be here looking forward to this and I think the players look forward to it as well this has become more common in all the majors Mary Joe where they get out play some mixed doubles have some fun entertain the crowd and bring back some Legends as well so we're all looking forward it's fun for everyone I think we're going to sit back enjoy we won't have to commentate that much because we're going to have a lot of people talking on the court especially when your brother gets out there in the next match but uh I'm looking forward to this one you know we got a lot of Champions on the court and hopefully future Champions court has been playing so well this summer but OS fiant world number won she's won five titles this year Patrick including her fourth French Open and of course the only other major she won was here a couple of years ago on the hardcore tier at Flushing Meadows back in 2022 and you see taking on an shabor in the championship match and she was able to get it done in that emotional final that was a huge win for her she beat sabalenka and the semis was down in that final set and she had proven herself on the clay but not on the hard courts but now she's become a threat on every surface you see her record this year that's why she's ranked number one despite just winning the one major of course that was as you said marij fourth at Roland Goos Sebastian Corda this young man having only the best summer of his career winning eight of the last nine including a big title at the 500 level in Washington DC so he's starting to find his best form 24 years old 6'5 so he's got some size he's got an all Court game and fun to see him play a little doubles here tonight oh my God as for the Italians Jasmine polini boy what a breakout season it's been for her I'm not sure many of us Mar Joe would have predicted that this 28-year-old would Vault all the way to the top five just a remarkable year this year for her unbelievable she had never been past the second round of a major until this year's Australian Open where she reached the fourth round and then she goes to two major finals at the French loses to eaga then at wimon of course on the grass we were thinking how did she play at this size she's only 5'4 both on the clay and on the grass so well and then to top it off with the gold medal in doubles with Sarah Ronnie I mean it's incredible to see her at this stage in her career playing the best tenis of her life and she's got a great personality she's bubbly she's feisty great Charisma yeah that smile is not just when she's playing a match like this that's her smile all the time even when she's playing in matches that really count for something so she's been a huge breath of fresh air for women's tennis this year her partner Matteo bartini boy he was right there at the top a couple of years ago reaching the wimon final you guys start right start okay no no coin toss they're ready no they're ready to just you guys serve it's okay okay had a bunch of injuries the last couple years but it's good to see him back healthy one of his titles coming this summer in stad on the play so starting to refind his form remember that great match you played against Center at oh yeah okay we're ready we're ready he's to get out and hit a few against joic the one the only Andre AG all four players have won US opens Andre Agy Andre twice yeah 94 and 99 here was the first one Mary Joe against mik the big German this is before we had Ash Stadium on Lewis Armstrong yeah remember that little flick half which he did off the Baseline with just amazing consistency [Applause] then in 1999 5 years later yeah taking on the big big man Todd Martin this was a tight match and IAC see too strong in the end he made a lot of finals too by the way ran into Pete SAS a few of them few times and in ' 05 I remember when the crowd was just so much behind him lost the Federer that was his last P final and he talks as well about that Olympic gold medal he won in 96 which sort of was sort of a down period of his career that midtop part of his career when he kind of fell off the map a little bit but he won that gold and of course that meant so much to him was part of what got him back inspired and he was one of the first ones that really acknowledge how important winning that medal was to a tennis player olypic gold medal in Paris and owns a record 24 these two guys just played against each other in that gold medal match alarz and jokovic after having played a couple of weeks earlier in the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive year it was just a few points that made the difference in that gold medal match and talk about perseverance and just desire this man the last couple months how he improved his game got his knee back on track yeah he told us today in his practice that he was going to be playing the tournament without the the uh strap on the knee so he's out here tonight without it had it on today in his practice with Juan Martin del Potro and of course plenty of good memories for jokovic here in New York as he's won 24 Majors overall and winning the title here again last year at the open taking on meddev in the championship [Applause] match this was to win his 24th Grand Slam title [Music] crazy numbers Patrick Yeah 37 times in finals including as I said the last two wimbledon's 99 singles titles so we get Triple digits here in New York and he's also got the most alltime weeks at number one what do you think motivates him the most now uh I think just playing just keep keeping just building the numbers I think he he loves it I think he is inspired by the fact that he's got guys like alarz now in Center that have come up and I think that that kind of motivates him as well I felt last year when he lost that epic five Setter that it would motivate him and it did the rest of the year they played that great match in Cincinnati well we know this guy pretty well my big bro Johnny Mack some of his greatest success right here in New York four of his seven Majors here at the open' got some swag we were discussing this earlier today me and BG about the singles being singles and doubles and he was been the only guy we were specula at edberg we thought maybe did it but it wasn't at the same time so it was 1980 that John was ranked number one in singles and doubles let's go back to one of the classic matches against the great Bjorn Bor here in the US Open final one of my favorite rivalries amazing pass there from Borg great hands from your brother look at that made it look easy at the net yeah this was in the fifth set John had won the first two sets Bor came back to win the next two and then that shut the door that was an 80 81 it was more straightforward and that was the one that sent Borg to the exits in his career 17 total Majors 155 total titles were all those doubles Majors with Peter sling not all of them he won one uh with Woodford um that was at U was one with S I think as well so a couple of yeah I couldn't he couldn't carry me though to you know we we won the Paris Indoor though but not that's pretty good yeah that wasn't bad extended warmup here for these guys Novak's like all right let's go let's start older guys you a little more time to warm up this is the longest I've ever seen you warm up I'm almost cramping right now Agy just so you all know in his playing days was known for barely warming up at all for matches he would come out be out here and do that under the great name of Arthur Ash to Billy Jean national tennis can't get better Andy Carlos you know you had the opportunity to play with Rafa at the Olympics now you get to play with this guy but I want to know something who talks more between Rafa and this guy on the court because there was a lot of conversation that he was yelling at you without doubt yeah yeah I'm uh I'm going to say guy who are surrounded by you know this Legends uh be able to play in the same same Cor in the same side of the net like Andre like Rafa obviously playing with the John uh well no with the Novak we've played many many times this year but it's always a pleasure to set the call with him uh yeah I'm a lucky guy so this some some experience that I'm going to keep forever uh and yeah I had I had so much fun and what about again and getting an opportunity to play against these two and seeing them on the other side of the Court particularly John with your history and of course Novak and what he's been able to do over the last couple of years I mean what does it mean to you to look down the other end and just have this opportunity to play these guys oh I mean well John's very familiar to me from this perspective Novak isn't and it's much more intimidating being on this side of the court with Novac than standing behind him you know trying my best to help so it was a it was a thrill I mean I mean I I don't know know what to prioritize whether it's Novak and everything he's accomplished and continues to accomplish John our history together and I mean how about how about everything that Carlos has accomplished in in what you're like 12 right how old are you yeah 11 11 11 I mean is the game in in great hands or what great hands Carlos you know you are always smiling so much on the court no matter the pressure but tonight I felt your smile was as large as I've ever seen it having this opportunity for you you really look like a kid in a candy store what did it mean to you to just have this opportunity to play against John be with this guy on the court and of course face that guy with a few more Smiles on your face well yeah as I said for me it's a privilege to you know playing uh playing this uh this thing this matches uh obviously I'm I'm not used to you know see see them around so I I'm not luy guy who uh you know try to spend as much time as uh as I can with them trying to hear as much thing as I can uh just to to learn from from the Legends uh yeah uh I try to enjoy every moment that's why I put I smile from here to year uh has been a a great great moment for me for my life and uh yeah it was a time that I had to to enjoy for sure all right well I know one thing he's sweating a lot more than you okay I'm over to you guys all right Del poo and Waki and Andy rodic verus Andy rodic as we've mentioned well oh so many times the last American man to win a major that was right here in New York and he won this US Open had a great summer that summer remember he dominated the hardcourt swing he's of course led the US to the Davis Cup Championship as well in 2007 but this is where he won that US Open he was actually almost out against uh an Al bandian in the semifinal came from Match Point down and then just overpowered one Carlos Ferrero who's now of course the coach of Carlos alarz that was a straight set win for rodic in that championship match he was close oh so many times in other Majors including here including of course at wimon multiple times in the final there losing a feder also ranked number one for 13 straight weeks and inducted into the international Tennis Hall of Fame in 2017 Mark of consistency throughout his career sorry Delo his partner of course trying to take him out got to number one in the world rankings herself and then was able to finally win her first major title after coming oh so close finally winning the Australian Open in 2018 me Simona halop in that championship match there then retired yeah always played well here in New York yeah worked with us at ESPN for brief time in retirement we loved having her around in the booth and she decided hey I'm going to go back out there two young kids that's what she's kept in such great shape and for the last 12 months she's been out there traveling with the little ones and her husband David Lee she's had some good wins she still believes in herself has so much confidence had a good year a good run last year here yeah okay been her best performance since coming back uh in major one of my favorite people Patrick Gabriella sabatini started playing against her when I was 8 years old wow yeah and she is just the sweetest person and what a career she had okay what style one-handed backhand tell poacher earlier today said wow she's fit yeah she she Cycles a lot she runs a lot and now she starting to play a little bit more tennis last year she played the Legends at a lot of the majors uh with her country woman justella dulco but uh she's just the very best yeah and she's been very successful with uh her post tennis career especially down in South America her own perfume line and very very beloved in her home country so is this man Juan Martin del poo M amazing run took out Nadal easily I believe yeah he sure did straight sets straight sets and then it wasn't so easy in the final as feder had him on the road ropes but Del poo able to come back showing off his speed for the big guy it was a great comeback fed won the first set I believe served for the second set at 5-4 and Del poo stormed back with the huge serve and the big forehand and there it was match point after just over four hours Del poo winning the US Open title Bes set by injuries like so well at the Olympics on the Bron in 2012 beating I believe Novak yes that's right in six and 16 lost to Murray in the final also beat Novak along the way to get to that final it was big for him and his country to win that Davis Cup back in 2016 that was a huge moment for tennis in Argentina so many great players over the years gal vas Jose Luis Clerk of course gastone gdio won a French Open title we talked about earlier just all the injuries he had to deal with a lot of risk surgeries never was able to get back to the top of the game after those injuries he was the one guy right he was the one guy that was really threatening the top players the big three he had 10 wins over number one players which is the most of any player that's never been ranked number one trying to get his uh little microphone tidied up there you talked about the wrist surgeries then he had multiple knee surgeries when he was trying to come back in 2019 and 2020 actually Four surgeries overall on the Nate after having the multiple wrist surgeries on both wrists so really horrendous luck Ric for the most part throughout his career pretty healthy took care of his himself and had that big serve obviously but also really known in his years for his work ethic and his competitiveness and now he's crushing it with his podcast so entertaining oh yeah he's doing great great with that actually did want to think on site today here at the open all right we year playing alongside Stone obviously uh get to learn a little bit on her forehand and uh but ultimate just ultimately just come out here and have some fun with everybody else and see all the fans some of the best Smiles in our game right now between Sloan Francis Taylor and I mean I guess Boris is okay too I mean I'm looking forward to this just what Francis did last week his confidence is back coming to the US Open so to see him now have an opportunity to have a bit of fun out here without the pressure it's going to be great this is going to be a fun match and it's a reminder as we see them pose with one of the students and the players of the USDA Foundation Sloan has a great foundation and he does it's really special and it means a lot and I know how much programs like this mean to former standout at Virginia Commonwealth University with 75 career singles wins currently starring on ABC station 19 say hello to Boris [Applause] Cojo I know and to the chair umpires right warming up in the dece court with eight career singles title she's been ranked as high as number eight in the world and she's also a Billy Jean King C champion from Plantation Florida please welcome the 2017 US Open Champion Sloan [Applause] Stevens Sloan's partner is in the ad Court he's fresh off his first ATP Masters one final Monday in Cincinnati he's been ranked as highest number 10 in the world and was a US Open semi-finalist here in 2022 well a gorgeous night here in New York City and been a fun night here stars of the open at the US Open Legends of the present and the past and looking forward to this one with these three professional players and one professional actor who as he said is going to act like a pretty decent player cuz he was a pretty good one in college and that's Boris Cojo he's 51 years of age born in Austria not surprisingly you look at his bio he was a former model but now a very successful actor and appearing in numerous films and TV shows but this is what we want to know for the tennis fans that he played tennis at Virginia Commonwealth and on a scholarship graduated in 96 and won 75 matches in his college career so not bad that's pretty good yeah his techniques pretty good as well and you got you got to be pretty confident coming out here with these three players cuz it's he's happy to have this as his partner because Tor Townsen not only having one of her best years in singles this year but certainly one of the best doubles players on the planet winning the Wilton doubles title this year and she mentioned of course first final was reaching the final here in New York at the US Open yeah he's lucky to have Taylor on his side because she is probably the best doubles player on the court yes lone Stevens course the player out here with a major title to her name that was right here in New York in 2017 taking on Madison Keys in in the championship match first it was Venus though before she got to the final a beautiful pass right there remember she'd been out for almost a year with an injury had basically no ranking beat keys in the final played Flawless tennis was a backboard just did not miss a shot yeah she was Rock Solid and keys a little bit overwhelmed by the occasion at least early started to play a little bit better in the second but it was all Sloan Stevens as she won the title here in 2017 also reached a French Open final lost to halop in a tight one there eight career titles including one this year and in 2018 got up to his high as number three in the world currently coming into this year's US Open ranked 60 in singles as for her partner tonight the always smiling Francis tifo as you heard from one the ENC Court announcers reaching the final just this past week in Cincinnati resurrecting what for him has been a bit of a Down year three singles titles in his career and big run here a couple years ago to the semifinals in a quarterfinal it's last year where he lost to Ben Shelton happy to see him playing well again let's go the boun in is step again this is the perfect environment for tifo loves the New York crowd he enjoys himself out there and he's going to enjoy this doubles batch laying you to come on this court you've had some amazing memories here but just to be a part of fan week here at the USDA and the US Open what does it mean to you to be on a court like this and share this moment with everyone yeah it means everything I mean coming on this court it holds so many special memories for me first ever top five win against halop and then you know making my first lamb final and doubles here so it it means the world to me I had such a great time again thank you to everyone for showing up and showing out and it's just to start it's going to be some amazing tennis over the next couple weeks thank you to you two now over to James and nose two guys sorry sorry to interrupt here but I just wish you guys would have a little more fun out here I didn't see you guys smiling here what do you think I I hope that correlates for sure U playing with Salon is always great like she's so funny we have a great time every time we speak so U and then playing against Boris is just making me laugh seeing him run and see him just grind was it's hilarious but it's ultimately a great night and uh this is great going into you as over well hey you guys you guys both smile a lot you guys both have a good time you have a lot of fun tonight but this also means a lot for the kids both of you guys I know how much it means to you to help underprivileged kids and what you guys do for the usdaa foundation as well so I want to say personally thank you guys for what you do and tell me how much this means to you that's why you guys are out here tonight yeah it's incredible obviously to be able to support kids and um show them a new way show them tennis show them a sport that they normally wouldn't play obviously supporting through ntls has always been incredible I grew up in njtl so did Francis so to be able to give back and support it means a lot and to have them come and watch us play and be able to just be here and experience it all and experience the US Open like Francis and I did as young kids um is truly incredible and we're always proud to support and happy that we can be those role models for those kids absolutely thank you guys thank you guys for being Ro miles
