welcome to Amhurst Massachusetts and Mur Alumni Stadium home to the minute man of UMass just a stone throw W from Where the Heart of the American Revolution was fought and we are anxious to see a fight on the grid iron in this one we've got a sensational match up for you fans have been filing in and getting ready for this game as we'll see a squad from the M the Eastern Michigan Eagles taking on the UMass Minutemen for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started umk will kick off and we'll be [Applause] underway he'll bring it back from inside to spot and the coverage team able to wrestle him down so the Eastern Michigan Eagles return team certainly didn't do the offense any favors there there he is the man who makes everything go and they believe they're going to score every time they touch it when he's on the field Jesse he plays with unbelievable confidence thre always knows where to go with the football the entire Playbook is at this guy's disposal yeah which is so much fun for a coach so much fun to play with him a guy that can do everything everybody on the field is active in a [Applause] weapon got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four and off from the shotgun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and how fast did they get in there and make that tackle for a loss if you blinked you missed it nice job by the defense getting penetration everybody up near the line of scrimmage shooting the gaps quick getting in the back field getting the guy so third and short from inside the 20 you convert here and this drive takes on a different complexion unloads it left tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup at 3 first there for the offense Eastern Michigan has it and a fresh set of downs they'll run it out of the shotgun they can rely on this guy to pick up solid yardage when they needed and he's out to the [Applause] 43 halfway there on first down it's second and five from the gun running back gets to give they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and there was no space nowhere to go that play went absolutely nowhere sometimes you just need a dude to show up and make a play and he did sometimes you just need to block that dude they didn't come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and he's to the 48 yd line that'll be good enough for a first down it's a really good sign if you're on offense here you're putting it on your offensive line on third down critical down and distance opening drive of the game let those guys fire off get a hat on a hat you can run the ball pick up the first you're around Midfield and all things looking pretty good here early for this offense he's looking to throw it makes the grab it's Mitchell and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down man listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to the offense lines up at the 41 with a first and 10 and the defense makes a big hit knocks him down tell you what that read game really slows you down defensively kind of makes you play responsibility football and when you get chunks like that on first down as an offense I will continue to come back to this offense set up with a second and short scanning the field it's Snider gets it out fast and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chain it's not a great feeling on defense too when you're blitzing you're expecting to get a sack you're expecting to get a hit on the quarterback if the offensive line and running backs pick it up uhoh because now you have one less guy in the back end trying to cover all these receivers and tight ends and you know you're in trouble he'll come out throwing on first down grabbed in the middle it's Mitchell defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first and goal from the e nice job by the receiver on the in route there and how about the speed after he made his break he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB helping out his QB on that one Eastern Michigan will line up with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we'll see if the offense can punch it in on second and [Music] [Applause] [Music] goal looking for a path to the end zone to the right he pushes it forward all the way to the 2yd line a third and goal call here from the two let see if they can finish the deal power ahead and this one will be stopped for no game decision coming up here I'm kicking a field goal though David first drive of the game you want to pay it off and just put some points up on it well and see I'd go for the touchdown because here's the thing I'm going to make them go the length of the field almost 100 yard even if I get stopped I'm starting this game agressive here comes the field goal [Applause] unit and it's no good he missed it after the Miss no change in the score you can't miss opportunities like that you're playing on the road in a hostile environment you're trying to seize momentum right out of the gate you get a nice drive to start the game and then you miss the field goal you don't get any points to show for that if they're going to win this one guys they've got to take advantage of those types of opportunities on first down Here Comes This [Applause] offense quick strike complete and good coverage by the defense just a short game brings up second on second down will they go back to the ground game crying play action didn't have much of a choice there but to get rid of it couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six to the air it's puman complete downfield and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line a first down UMass getting set to snap it on First and 10 use the play fake now to throw going deep oh and he gets downfield for the big catch touchdown you and once he found daylight it was ktie Bar the Door baby number one one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch and if this quarterback gets through his progression David hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play and the pat makes it 7 nothing that's the end of the quarter and it's UMass holding the lead and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so far heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the [Applause] second just about set to kick it away set to kick here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Eastern Michigan takes over as the offense heads to the field he'll pull it on the read he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three I'll tell you this is a hard defense to run against if you're going to go sideline to sideline because of that guy's speed at linebacker he can get all the way to the perimeter chase the quarterback down on the option and make the tackle behind the line of scrimmage impressive not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 looking to throw it's Snider a little screen to the running back they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down love the execution there on the screen the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D linan have already run past him now he can turn up field for a big Gainer and they got the completion but still looking at a third down from the gun wants to pass getting some heat it's complete to the left they make the stop but the sweet Ru cat CES plenty to give him a first down good job by the receiver there not to run into coverage but to find a spot that the quarterback could throw him the ball yeah on those types of routes ree they say if you're looking you're booking so if that's man coverage the receiver staring at the quarterback all the way across the field that time the receiver didn't give the quarterback his eyes so they were on the same page they both knew it was Zone and they executed that perfectly and he was Off to the Races and he gets it to the 45 defensively you'll take the slow death you'll take three four five yards a pop but you can't give up the massive plays you got to do a better job containing the football making them run the guys and get him on the ground for goodness sakes this guy is fast I know but defensively we got to swarm to the football and get him on the ground might as well give it to him again that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great T there I like my guy I like getting my back touches feet the ball so he can break some of those big rubs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced got three on first down it's second and seven out of the gun to give to the back he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down this running back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed now on first down from the 28 [Applause] maybe some confusion on the snap count there that's maybe what caused the false start either way offense is penalized so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty this offense has a second down play wants to throw it's Snider he's got the tight end really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down well they pick up the first against Zone coverage the biggest key there is the quarterback understanding that a it's Zone but B what kind of zone is it is it one high safety is it two high safeties and then you know instinctively where your best throw where your highest percentage completion is based on what type of Zone coverage it's going to be looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out picked up up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down on the ground with the counter he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and if you want to bring all your tight ends in the game you know what I'm going to do I'm going to bring in more linebackers more defensive linemen get ready for the Run less speed on the field especially when you get down here in the Red Zone I feel like I can match up manto man with those tight ends in the back end nice job understanding a run was coming on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air he's got it defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal at the six I really like this offense staying aggressive they were in field goal range but nice job on third down forget that let's go get the first down let's throw the football nice read nice catch now set up with a first and goal situation movement on the offense and they'll lose five yards on the penalty false start off the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty looking to [Applause] throw he's got it on the move just a quick Rhythm throw there and really good use of the tight end yeah good use of the big fell I mean go through your progressions real quick you can't find anything get the easy gain don't take a shot down the field all the time take those shots later but take those easy wideopen opportunities to get some positive chunks they've got it down to the three now it's second and goal that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds you can't afford to squander these opportunities once you get into the red Zone twice they've been denied here's third and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown Eastern Michigan you want to keep your offense on the field wear down the defense put that tape on and show it in the clinic that's the way it's done and as a defense man there's nothing more demoralizing you can handle it when you give up three but to give up the touch down at the end of a long drive you're already exhausted you've already been punked the whole way down the field man that's he'll try to tack on one more splits those uprights right in half that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14-play touchdown drive and Clos the deal with a three-y touchdown run after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the minute man going back to work on offense now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points to but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about we'll take a quick break here two minutes to play in the first half offense gets set for second down to throw it's kumachan using the quick game they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down that was a nice pick up running the drag route and finding that quiet soft spot in the zone yeah drag routes not only work against man coverage they work against zone two if you can find the soft spot and the quarterback gets it to him early he can turn up field and you saw that right there to the air on first down oh he's going to try to get it all here snags it down the right side can't anyone catch him and he takes it all the way they couldn't stop him touchdown minut man man how hard is it to defend when you have a weapon like this at running back that can play wide receiver you can design ways to get the football in his hand Palmer once you get in his hands he'll do the rest yeah no doubt I mean and often times those are easier throws for quarterbacks and these running backs they're just naturally so good good when they have the football out in space their Vision their creativity their ability to make people miss and this guy showed you right there a difficult difficult guy to stop now if you're this defense moving forward winding up to add another is on for the extra point and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven quick strike off on that three playay scoring drive and they finish with a huge play in the passing game covering 66 yds to the end zone about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Eastern Michigan has it back as the eagle offense returns to the field fires to the right and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down well that's one the offense would love to have back that's a play they practice over and over and over they feel like they can run that play in their sleep not able to connect there after misfiring it's second down looking for a man it's Snider he looks that one in nicely and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one and those slot receivers nowadays they're little water balls man you can play Touch football and an elevator to lose to these guys because they're so quick and so Dynamic get open and catch the football they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 they'll try to get the first through the air caught near the sticks it's Mitchell he steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down man what a big catch on third down going up catching the football understanding where you're at now getting a fresh set of downs nice play by the receiver the Eagles getting set on First and 10 he wants to throw oh he drops the football he had it right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it [Applause] again they keep attacking through the air and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming well that's just a great play by the defender and great timing it was the hit that forced that incompletion now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass a strike downfield there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer see if they can turn this drive into points they've got it first and 10 at the 50 back to pass it's Snider quickly to the tight end here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job fires to the tight end worked his way to the 38 before they stopped him it's a 5yd gain and that'll be a first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding it's Blitz and not just that it's Blitz but knowing whether it's man coverage or Zone coverage behind the blitz you've still got to know where your answer is going to be based on what the defense is doing in the back end and he add the answer to the test right there got his man they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down and a nice job working the middle of the field I think it's so important to keep defense is honest and you can't just Dink and dunk outside you got to work the middle great job finding this wide receiver over the middle of the field they' moved it to the 19 first and 10 from the Red Zone he's going to throw it I don't think that's the way they drew it up incomplete they'll line up for a second down play he's looking to throw going for it all and makes the grab in the end zone Dodge that Eagles yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you trailed a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second [Music] half ready to try the point after is on for the extra point and it's up and good so a scoring drive there of 83 yds and the Capper a 19 yd toss for the touchdown and we're all square as he's set to kick it away kick away from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but and they get him on the ground at the 20 the UMass offense returns to the field he'll start this drive firing it's incomplete and he's lucky to get that one back almost intercepted and that's why these guys play defense if that were an offensive player receiver that would have easily have been a catch come on man you got to catch that and make that a pick still at their own 20 after that last incompletion it's second and 10 looking for space it's John really nice stop there from this senior leader we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update gentlemen what else is new a spirited environment there in Amherst toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have to find this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves and with that let's head back to our team inside alumni stadium [Music] [Applause] [Music] Eastern Michigan will kick it deep to start the second half and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the minute man going back to work on offense first drive of the second half always fun to watch you see what type of tweaks were made at the half especially when you're locked up in a ball game like this one yeah and it's been a good game I mean it's been a little bit of back and forth and a feeling out process and now once you get in the second half who's going to get aggressive Palmer who's going to take some shots try to make some plays and really go for it yeah it's interesting I think as play callers right now you learned a lot about these coaching staffs with respect to who does make the best adjustments there's a lot of coaches that believe we're just going to be who we are we're going to keep doing what we do we're just going to do it better but then there are others that tweet things a little bit on offense and on defense going to find out here third now looking for that first down on Third and short from the 26 dropping back it's puman gets it out quickly smashes through the tackle finally we run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do going up top on first down fires to the wide out it's caught really good Serge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at the 34 and I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his [Applause] toolbox up now BR up second that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and short they'll go right back to it and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down you got to wonder if that's a moral victory in this offensive line cuz they have not been running the ball well at all all game long but on that short yardage situation they finally pick it up and maybe that's going to be the Catalyst for them to get this thing going and Spark the Run game UMass getting set to snap it on First and 10 looking to move it through the air makes the pass lost the defense he wide open TouchDown minute man they take the lead with the six that's his third touchdown pass of the day the defense has no clue how to respond right now no and the defense has had absolutely no answer he's been on the money he's been on fire making the right decisions and just carving this defense [Music] up they'll try to attack one more on their score extra [Applause] point and with the extra point the score is now 21-4 they put together an 81 yd drive and they finish it off with a touchdown toss from the 23 the kickoff team takes the field to Boop this one away on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Eastern Michigan takes over as the offense heads to the field they'll try the Run stopped at the 25 after a 5yd [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] gain halfway there on first down it's second and five back to throw it's Snider receiver looks it in it's complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch well it's a great job by the receiver fighting back across the DB there to get to the inside locate the ball and catch the slant you can feel the momentum starting to swing in this Stadium it's first in 10 he's going to pass the short hands it's Zimmerman they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down I tell you this slot receiver he really does give his quarterback a nice option runs really good routes he's got nice hands you saw it on that last play now here on second down see if they keep tossing it around he's looking to throw finds his tight end works his way to the 41 and that is plenty to give him a first down they saw that Blitz coming and the way to get out of it is find the tight end yeah how quick did he see that too sees the blitz understands this is a matchup where I got my big tight end the big fella I trust I'm going to find that matchup get him the football for the first down the aerial assault continues got his man quickly and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few well when you're running the drag route against man coverage like that as a quarterback you got to put the ball out in front of your target when you do that you give the guy a chance to then Advance the football up the field pick up the first down like they did right there here comes the offense on second down from the gun the running back has it that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there [Applause] trying to move the sticks on third down looking for a man it's Snyder fires to the middle and his throw is incomplete B third and short they're throwing for it they just can't come up with that one setting up a big decision now for the head coach on fourth [Applause] [Music] down Eastern Michigan will be forced to finally sending out a punter in this one got to make sure they earned their letter a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work the UMass offense returns to the field they Unleashed an aerial assault last time that took him right to the end zone David So ree with that drive I think you've accomplished something you wanted to accomplish make this defense think you put them back on their heels now shoot Palmer you might be able to slip a few runs in on this drive to really Jack them up yeah I like that idea but I also like the fact that speed kills they've got it at the receiver position so if you got one-on-one matchups man take advantage running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second down from the gun the ground game runs through a tackle and he left the first Defender grabbing at air before he was finally tackled well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play they'll snap this one from the 30 on First and 10 right back to the well finds his way for three out to the [Music] 33 as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end end of the quarter out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back they get him down and that'll be the final play of the third period we've been treated to an aerial show by these two guys so far as you check out their [Applause] number one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter finish trying to move the sticks on third down through the air quickly complete rowers that shoulder delivers the blow a huge play and they get it all the way to the 45 yd line and you just get the feeling that this defense has to find a way to get off the field and get the football back at this juncture of the game trailing late if they're going to win UMass quickly back to the line going to run it it's John we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one after picking up a couple it's second and eight the give to the back able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense they'll try to run for it they are on the move as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 28 and this offense continues to have success and just put a long drive together on this defense I'm getting desperate now it's desperation I got to make a play I got to force something to happen I got to change something up and I got to get this football back to my offense comes out throwing on first down feeling some heat good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 28 he leaves it with his back they make the stop but he got work done on the ground picking up 6 to the 23 third headed to the line at the 23 trying to convert this third and short from the gun they'll give it on the inside and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down basing blood plays I don't I don't need a bunch of complicated stuff sometimes I just need to get the first down and get the sticks moving UMass getting set to snap it on First and [Applause] 10 it's a reverse and the defense was ready when the wide receiver got the ball what a great job by the backside of the defense staying home a lot of time the Run looks like it's going the other direction what happens you start to Chase nope these guys stayed home and played their assignment and that's why they had success long drive continues as the offense keeps working the ball down the field they've been running it but now the pass he's got it he threw that one with some serious Heat this senior quarterback doesn't need a lot of space to get it in there I love an offense that wants to stay aggressive even when you've got the lead late in a game like this right you still try to find your Playmakers and get them them the ball in space and that is exactly what this offense is doing and this defense has to step forward not only do they have to get a stop they've got to do it quickly to keep that time from running down he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two and I really like the decision by the quarterback there listen it's early in the Downs like Don't Force It don't don't make a turnover he tucks it get what you can get and then Live to play the next down I I like that execution by the [Applause] makes the grab on the left and he's into the end zone touchdown you this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike zone yeah it just gets in the zone right when you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks get like that no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you apart getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point is true and they have a two touchdown lead up 14 in the fourth that the kickoff team out there and ready to go on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Eastern Michigan has it back as the eagle offense returns to the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the first play you need to be successful productive on that first play and it gets you in less predictable situations no doubt too don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board here Eastern Michigan going [Applause] [Music] fast looking to pass it's Snider trying to get to him complete to the right he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense I think if you're the head coach at this point you're telling your offense doesn't matter what's happened up this point of the game obviously things haven't gone our way but we have a chance to execute in a two-minute situation and give ourselves a chance to win let's go do it one play at a time looking to go up top on first down that's reeled in it's Mitchell bust through behind his Pad major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 one and on the heels of that last big play now you'd love to keep the momentum going and score quick how about staying aggressive try to throw this thing into the end zone you need to get the ball back and you need to save as much time as you can trying to find his man on first down looking down the middle he makes a catch and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop this is an offense that has skill they've got speed and because of that this defense they can't W themselves to sleep they've got a big lead here late but they've now given up backto back big plays they got to put the clamps down they're looking to pass from the Red Zone just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection line getting set on second down the RPO it's complete that throw and catch gets them down to the six and the defense is running out of answers this is a very tough slot receiver to cover if you're a linebacker because of how quick and how Shifty he is you never seem to know which way he's going and he always seems to create an open space for his QB not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone looking to throw for it and the third down pass is incomplete got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do [Applause] here down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down they'll try to pick up the first and he'll finish the run in the end zone touchdown Eagles and that's step one great job by this offense getting in the end zone now you got to go get the stop you got to get the football back you got to find a way to do something to create a turnover get an onside to get the football back to get back in this football [Music] game now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic extra point and the extra point cuts the lead to seven 28-21 they go 83 yds on the drive and he got into the house with the six to finish it about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown adance on the looking for an alley from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the minute man going back to work on offense okay Justin this is a little bit of a tight spot you'd love to be aggressive enough to get the first down but you've got to take care of the ball first no doubt I was going to say ball
