South Carolina Football: LaNorris Sellers' Best Throws vs Kentucky

all right so we're going to look at a few clips from Lenor sers game against Kentucky yesterday about five or six of his passing Clips I thought overall his game and performance is much better than than his game against ODU right so while there's still plenty of room to improve in some areas that you want to keep developing I thought he took a step forward yesterday so there's about five or six clips I want to dive into uh to kind of demonstrate that but before we do the type of throws he had multiple different type of throws I think should be encouraging if you're a South Carina fan the first type of throw is a throw we're about to watch he was standing in the pocket able to deliver the ball downfield the other throws using his legs to buy time uh whether from scrambling or some designed roll outs right so I think that's what kind of makes him so dangerous his ability to do both now it just has to be done more and more consistently I thought the OC did a good job calling the game yesterday getting him comfortable right now it helps when the opposing quarterback goes three to 10 for 30 yards in a pick and and you're up 31 whatever six with whatever time left in the fourth quarter but overall thought sellers played great and I think you I shouldn't say great but I thought he played much better room for improvement but I thought he showed enough to have Gamecock fans excited and before we dive into this clip actually so last year or last week against ODU he only had three completions where the ball was thrown more than 10 yards or more downfield zero completions where it was 20 yards or more downfield he had six those type of throws this past week so four where it was thrown 10 yards or more downfield and two where it was thrown 20 yards or more downfield so we saw the ver vertical passing game at least show some life and and have some steps here right so this is the first throw I want to watch it's a good throw by sellers it's little play action here we see Guy come in motion low play action boom and we're going to see a good throw down the middle of the field linebackers creep up they can't get back in time and then we're going to see him let's see my face might be in the way I apologize we're going to see him hit his Receiver right and does a good job laying the ball right over this backer here again this was I think the first drive good throw you can kind of see the whole shot yeah that's a tough throw right but really good throw good coverage there too but shows sellers ability there again I think this is the first drive if I'm not mistaken so good job in the pocket off play action push the ball down field and throws a ball into a tight space for a first down one of my favorite throws from from sellers yesterday I thought was a pretty tough throw that he made all right next throw I'm not sure if this is I'm move myself again this was his first touchdown I believe again I'm about to watch so I don't know if this little roll out he did was designed you see him look over here real quick and then roll out this right for a touchdown it may have been design it kind of looks that way but I could be wrong it could just be what he was comfortable doing regardless ends up being a really good play for South Carolina Let's see we going boom yeah so you can kind of see him look this way real quick all right so this is why I don't know if it's designed or if he just saw if he just wanted to roll out it looks really designed right running back going this this way you had a wide open receiver over here too for the touchdown but rolls out you can tell comfortable on the Run gets his eyes downfield ends up being a touchdown I believe so this was earlier in the game right or was it was this the second quarter well well I apologize I can't remember right off the bat I could pull up the the um the play byplay regardless touchdown get yourself feeling comfortable good play design there so again first clip we showed s's in the pocket second clip rolling out throwing on the run here let's go see the next clip here okay yes these next two clips actually yeah these next two clips about to show this was in the second half and this was after so sellers had a few Play Good plays at the beginning of the game then struggled a little bit and then these next two clips these next two let's see get myself out of the way these next two clips are about to watch is sellers rolling out for a big play here and then sellers in the pocket throwing a big play down the middle of the field or kind of to the right side of the field that that was a touchdown after this drive I think they got up 17 to6 and then they kind of just just ran away with it after this drive it may have been 24 to six after this drive I can't remember but this drive was a really good drive for Sellers and he was able to have a few more good passes after this drive here so let's go ahead and show it again this is broadcast footage I apologize not the best quality does a good job at least getting the point the point across so we can see pressure comes the right side you got a free Rush coming in not sure why because they only brought four and you have six guys to protect but when you have a quarterback like sellers able to make a guy miss this is why he's so deadly make a guy Miss and then throw the ball on the run I think this receiver is wide open right so he makes a guy Miss throws on the run and there's some type of coverage B burst down here he's wide open but still good job by Sellers and then we're going to see the next play he's in the pocket right so the first four plays we're watching we have a pocket throw and then a throw on the Run pocket throw a throw on the run and this next play is going to be a touchdown Let's see we keep it going keep it going go a little faster yes this next play here is a quick fake sweep and we're going to see a nice ho shot thrown by sellers he just looked more comfortable yesterday again it wasn't a complete game but just looked more comfortable yesterday you can tell these type of throws here so this ends up being yeah fake sweep boom and then he's throwing the whole shot right here safety moves away with midd field this DB or backer creeps this way that creates the hole that they want yeah and he throws it right here we can kind of see as we're going ends up being a really nice throw here I like cuz I thought it was a mature throw it kind of sits him down that way as opposed to potentially running him into trouble here right good throw by Sellers and I had two more throws I was going to watch but I actually put the wrong clip in so we'll just watch one more throw here it's another pocket throw and and this throw here is a good job by sellers the receiver is not quite turned around yet sellers has to do a quick pump fake but able to get a first down so we're going to see sellers do a good job maneuvering in the pocket eyes downfield he hits his receiver up here in a little comeback throw you'll see he wants to throw it early but for whatever reason the the receiver is not broken or hasn't turned around yet so it has to wait for a split second but it's a good job by sellers not forcing the ball take another good throw let's see so Kentucky brings 1 two 3 4 they do a fake Blitz here little fake Blitz here stays in with the running back and this is where sellers wants to go seees he got man coverage and the guy's off coverage here so it's a good read by sellers see Maneuvers in the pocket let's see him step up a little bit you see this one quick pump fake boom if if we had better footage again it's broadcast I apologize but you'll see he wanted to throw early but the receiver is just not turned around yet so he brings it down steps up and then right as the receiver's throwing then the ball is coming out so I that was a pretty good mature throw actually there by by sellers outside the numbers for a first down and there was another big uh big play that was going to show where the receiver is wide open little roll out but I put in the wrong the wrong clip so I apologize but regardless overall I thought we saw some good things right we saw sellers like this throw step in the pocket push the ball outside the numbers have a good throw we saw them inside the numbers in that first throw in the pocket and a really tight window throw then we saw him use his legs and showcase why he so dangerous I think one was probably a designed roll out if I had to guess and the other one was this he escaped pressure so still there's still room in the bucket to if you're Sellers and and the OC and the offense to improve a lot of room to improve but a really good step forward in beating Kentucky by what they did
