BC EAGLES SHOW - The Triangle of Collegiate Success - Are we entering a golden era with Billy OB?

hello and welcome to the BC Eagle show the premier episode we're going to get dig into the triangle of Collegiate success we saw a bright spot in this BC Eagles football program on Monday night against Florida State we're going to dig deeper into what we can do what everyone has to do to complete the triangle of Collegiate success only on the BC Eagles show [Music] I am your host Brian Webster and I thank you for joining us uh this is the first episode of the BC Eagle show um I look forward to covering the Eagles I love the Eagles of grown up in New England I live in South Georgia now but I love the Eagles and trying to you know build our voice and we'll get into that so Monday night was a special night for us uh the big win over Florida State kind of stepped on their neck and did not uh let them up and punched them away push him away when they came back swinging we dodged the bullet without falling apart came back won the game but I saw something there and I've heard some things since then that kind of has stuck out to me you know growing up in New England obviously we all know we're BC fans we're professional area professional sports the Celtics the socks the Patriots the Bruins if it's collegate it's hockey or in Connecticut it's basketball Boston College a little bit right we'll have some flashers in the pan with collegia sports but BC Eagles is our premier colate program um for college football in in the region no disrespect to those in Connecticut but they're not in a premier conference they are not a premier program right now and nether is BC to be completely blunt right BC is a program that showed some light life finally right it was nice it it was great to see BC Eagles referenced on Paul I mean uh Pat McAfee on fine bomb said some stuff and it got me thinking like how come Boston College the greatest sports city in the world cannot gain keep having this momentum keep continue to climb getting this momentum to keep going forward and forward and forward and forward and I've lived down in south Georgia I've I've watched Kirby smarts rise take over the program and I started to look at it I started to look at it and then I started to look to our neighbors down south in uh Yukon and how they've built a successful basketball program the best basketball program in the country and it comes down to the triangle what I'm calling the triangle of C's success the three angles on the triangle three corners on the triangle are the leaders the players and the sport as you see on the rundown by the way the rundown is going to be basic over but all three of them have to work for it to be a triangle my hands aren't really making it it's close enough to a triangle all three of them have to work together to make that triangle if one isn't being supportive of the other it's not a triangle right it's it's got to be connected at all times so we look at it leaders we've got a great one on Bill O'Brien after all the coaches whatever you feel about them I know some people loved affley some people disliked them I was the one that just wasn't a big fan of him there really hasn't been a great hiring O'Brien was a good one for a while but he left to go to North Carolina state conference rival gags was a good one but then he you know he was always looking for the next step but with Bill O'Brien it seems like we've got a guy that's really bought into the program bought into that Boston kind of atmosphere that grit that hard work that do your job kind of attitude that we love as sports fans right I remember growing up in one of the first blogs it wasn't really a Blog it was more like just a collection of links of all coverage when the internet was young and it was Boston dirtdogs decom it became boston.com or it started working with boston.com back in the 200s I think or as and we love the term dirt dogs we love the dirty ones the the guys that got a little grease on our fig bban fits that perfect coming from this area he he understands what that culture is now as the leader that that's that's a good start to this triangle of Collegian success and you kick it over to the players right players have to buy in have to trust the leader this is this is complete off-the-wall opinion and I'm not trying to do a hot take or anything on the show um but over the past week two weeks since uh fall practice open up the summer right you got a real sense and a vibe that the players have bought into what Bill Bryan and his staff are doing Tim Lewis you felt like they were coming together for the first time you haven't felt that in a long time as a Boston College fan you haven't you haven't seen the players connect with the coaches as much as they have over these past four weeks roughly and the crazy thing is he didn't even recruit any of these guys so he doesn't have this long standing relationship going into the house he just came here came with his reputation and they bought in and he bought in to them so it looks like we might have the start of one side of a triangle there because both sides were reciprocating the love and the support and the belief the players especially are believing in into the leader one thing I will say about the leader to compare it to his predecessor Bill O'Brien's predecessor compare the press conference from game one last year to game one this year yes I know it's a dramatic difference right you had a loss to Northern Illinois you're down 21 to7 and then this year before you forced it overtime and then you lost the game in overtime this year and that was Tommy C's first kind out coming out party this year you went down to Florida State where you were an underdog and you were going against a team that you know a lot of people believed were going to be um recovering from that trip to Dublin when they lost to Georgia Tech and uh Boston College went there and punched him in the mouth the player and then the postgame conference or the Northern Illinois game you heard a coach say I thought I thought I thought I thought I thought I thought Bill O'Brien last night said we believed we bought in everyone's coming together it just seemed like a different tone and Bill O'Brien doesn't have that special relationship that goes back to high school recruiting or transfer portal recruiting with many of these guys if any right he's got some relationships with the late arriving ones but he really doesn't have a deep deep core relationship with let just start with uh castanos right Tommy C Tommy Heisman as I see on Twitter so I I just feel that the leader is being a leader and not just another one of the guys and the players are responding great and I know it's it's easy to say that after a win comparing it to a loss but even if you go through and that's on the Boston College athletic YouTube program the post game conferences after wins press conferences after wins it's a lot of eye statements from his predecessors everything you've heard from Bill O'Brien is a lot of we statements building that trust connecting that triangle and then you go leaders to support Boston I'm going to call you out we've got to support this team better in fact today on the radio feler was on the radio saying that like rather go to sell insurance than to support or talk Boston College sports football especially we have to do better as a community we have to demand it right as listeners of uh the radio shows as ticket prices fun story as I told you earlier I live in South Georgia we're goinging up for Thanksgiving on let's go see the last game of the season you could buy tickets on StubHub for $8 for pit versus be $8 I I think the StubHub fees are going to be more than anything yes their nose bleeds yes they're high up in the end zone but it's still $8 to get in living in South Georgia going to all these other SC ACC schools I can you look at Clemson I can look at Duke I can look at if you're if they're not playing Elon you're you're paying at minimum $30 for minimum $330 isn't much either but it's not eight and I know it's StubHub and it's it's based off demand and all that kind of stuff but still the fact of we should support this team where StubHub has to the the third party seller has to respect the program we haven't built it this weekend it's supposed to be gold we're supposed to be wearing a lot of gold we're supposed to that Super Fan day is back and everyone's supposed to wear gold in the crowd I better see it on from my couch down here in South Georgia we need that we need to force felger and MZ to talk Boston College sports Boston College football because it seems like the other side of the triangle is working right to connect that sport support with the players we've got to talk we've got to treat them like cies compare them to other universities out there right e even even a school let's just go through Alabama with all his years of Nick Sav he had the support connecting to the players the players want to go there because the support is crazy and they want to be talked about they want to be celebrated they want to be called out for for a lack of better word like like they they want to have the responsibility to be a successful player they want to be challenged at the colle level they want to be supported but when no one cares about anything about you why is the kid from New England or those prep schools go to go with Boston College why you got Penn State down the road right hell you got ruers down the road right now you're playing in the Big 10 and there's at least support and then the supports of the leaders Bill O'Brian's been crying out for packing Alumni Stadium even against duaine basically since he got the job let's let's start selling tickets and I I understand everyone's saying well he's a Salesman he's the head coach he's supposed to all that kind of stuff but we have to go out there and support them we have to respond to our leaders asking for that support wear gold on Saturday against amp pack it to the rafter we've got to start making this a bigger deal because right now it looks like we've got the leader in place the leader that we've been lacking for so many years it looks like we've got some special players that leader predecessors obviously brought in most most of those players almost all so I can't completely discredit them but it seems like the other side of the triangles the three sides of the triangle one side seems like it's getting pretty solid it's getting thick it's connecting EC Eagles supporters need to build to continue to get you support this team more you make it a bigger deal and I really feel like there's an opportunity here especially in the ACC like let's run down the teams in the ACC Virginia Tech just lost the Ving right Virginia Tech was supposed to be one of the better teams in the conference just L Georgia Tech's kind of in a similar situation as us it's a high Academic School um but they're in a hot bed of talent right the state of Georgia me living in Georgia I can tell you there's a ton of high school talent that's extraordinary Clemson seems like it's in a downfall it's still Clemson right but it seems like Dabo not a adapting with the times we've got a leader that's willing to adapt with the times we've we we have what they don't have they have the history especially the recent history but if he doesn't dap of the times they're going to struggle Florida state looks like a dumpster fire right now one of the one of the best things for Monday night was going on to because as a BC Eagle fan you don't have a lot of live reaction shows there just aren't a lot out there we're a smaller Force that's that's part of the support Florida State's got the support for the most part and watching their heads explode because little old Boston College came in punched them in the mouth took their lunch money and ran out and they didn't even have a chance and the Big Money Team the you know the the super transfer quarterback the like suing the conference everything little old boss college but they do have the support Over Us Clemson does too the Clemson had a lot of head exploding and they are probably super thankful that Boston College beat the seminal because it took the the pressure off them just a little bit but all the rest of the acc's beatable right now outside of probably Miami and I wouldn't even bet against Bill O'Brien right now coming up with a game plan mess with Miami because Miami is Miami and Miami's been back for so many years right we've got to complete this to go back to the triangle of colleg success we we have to do this to make this program stand out and survive you've got to have a brand because we all see where college football's going college football's going to just super conferences all over the place seems like the acc's on the the the rockiest ground and if we want professional style college football which is an oxymoron itself I guess right but it's it's the way it is right now if we want that then we have to do our part and the leaders have to do their part and the players have to do their part and they have to create that triangle I'm going to come up with another episode this week um I'm going to try to leave these uh odd do a couple 20 minute episodes if that right now I'm about 16 minutes um but leave your share this like subscribe
