After years and years of appealing his death sentence, a Florida murderer will be executed in 30 minutes. Lauren Cole murdered a Florida State University student and raped the student's sister in 1994 in the Ocala National Forest. This is John Edwards. He was camping with his sister, Pam who went to Ecker College at the time when Cole and a man named William Paul befriended them on a walk through the park. The two men attacked the siblings, they kidnapped Pam, they beat John to death. Pam was raped twice at the campsite before Cole and Paul tied her to a tree and then took off in her car. It was not until the next day that she was able to escape. He was able to chew through the cord that they tied her to the tree with and she came down looking for her brother trying to find where her brother was. Pam walked for miles before flagging down a driver for help, law enforcement later found her brother's body in the park. Cole's execution is the first in Florida since last October. It will be the seventh execution since 2023 right now in Pinellas County, local anti death penalty activists are hosting a vigil at the intersection of Olmer and 49th Street.
