hey guys this is spare chain stacking pennies Daytona Edition hope you guys are having a great day cor Joy here alongside Ryan Flores going down to what used to be the season finale but is not this year but it's still going to have the same energy as if it is because they this is the wild card where everybody outside the playoffs can punch your ticket I feel like if it's not going to be the season playoff it has to be run in July because we lose out the fact of Larry McReynolds saying when we come back here in July in July in July it'll be hot and slick in July it is something hits different about it not being July the firecracker 400 um but nonetheless we're going to prepare hard this week as we know that we can put oursel in position to steal a spot in the playoffs and really mess up that that bubble rolling in Darlington so um talk to me about the new era of Super Speedway racing M how hard it is to make runs the strategy of it all saving fuel what I don't like the whole fuel saving part but the the premise behind it is if you save more fuel during the run and maintain somewhat decent track position your time on Pit Road when you take gas will be potentially seconds less than the other guy to have enough gas to make it to the end of the race so you're trying to essentially put T of a second over the run in the bank so you can burn them up on the pit stop and Lea frog everybody that's been in front of you burning more fuel and then you will have better track position in the last run when the pay window opens big race for for gasman because like you said negative plugs stoping on your Mark's important obviously there's not much Tire degreg you're not going to be put tires on it very often but Daytona will usually provide a better race than Tega with these cars cuz um handling will come into account a little bit hot racetrack start sliding around a little bit starting start having a lift if you're on the bottom Lane in traffic so um you do want a decent driving car the rear suspension at all super Speedways is locked in right same for everybody same for everybody you can change your Springs but the points in which the suspension has to be Ed are all fixed so does that help or hurt racing do you think uh well it helps it if you're a team that figures out how to get the thing to dog walk the right way or get it to dog walk a bit more or it I think it certainly makes the disparity in cars less yeah makes everybody kind of go the same speed I think sometimes we confuse quote unquote better or good racing as a disparity and speed between the cars yeah because if you got a lot of disparity you get a lot of mixup if there's some variables that put slow cars in the front fast cars in the back and you got juking and Jing bobbing and weaving but nonetheless um there was a sentence here typed out do we need ride height rules I feel like the sport has progressed much further beyond that now you just can't get you can't go back that far taking multiple Evolutions but to that point and I'm this is my cold take my favorite drafting style was the tandem give me a sweatshirt dude I feel it was exhilarating to watch I never watched it I was always there on a team and I thought it was dumb I loved it remember the the EA sports game where you can like Drive multiple cars like remember like in the cars in the real cars they would have the knob and you can literally turn it to you were drafting I remember putting the radio in there I think I was with McMurray or I think yeah it was with McMurray I'm glad that we got away from that much of like integration between all the teams what was the weirdest was when your driver switched over to somebody else's radio and you couldn't switch so it was just quiet like the whole run and you're like ah what are we doing and then they switch back all right I'm back and then the restarts were interesting because they were like um I remember this and I could be wrong you might want to pull it up higgy uh on video this week but coming to the green flag in the 2011 Dayton 500 that Trevor Bane won we were second with uh the 14 and I believe Trevor said I don't know what I'm doing here tell Tony I'll just push him to the win and Mark Martin was lined up behind us with a wrecked race car and Tony said no I got to stick with my teammate cuz we were Hendrick Alliance at the time and I was like what no we just went straight backwards cuz the five car was destroyed and you could only um go as fast as your teammate right it was like how much risk were you willing to take the races at the end of the race were crazy like the one at tallo for what like it was always nuts two rows deep it was always nuts I but we have since progressed from then now we are in what I consider a conveyor belt not much JW on position not much gap between cars cars handle relatively well so and unless you see somebody like Michael McDow who at Talladega did probably the best job I've seen blocking the lanes up into the point that he didn't on the last lap um he controlled the lanes and kept them at Bay for like 15 laps and it wasn't allowing that outside Lane to generate a run but if you get and I don't want to tell my secrets but there is a there's a particular way that the that the um pack kind of shuffles yeah okay and you get a feel for that so being in the right lane at the right time um you can kind of have an understanding if you or an expectation if you're going to go forwards in this particular Lane at this time of the run or you're going to be in this Lane and you're going to go backwards is side drafting in these cars as effective as it was in the car before minim yeah it's minimal it's minimal yeah really uh you say conveyor but I thought you were going to say your ageel line like cows lined up for the slaughter that's what it feels like if you're about mid pack last lap you know the next thing you're going to see is a a for me at Talladega was a puff of smoke and you're the ground and you just reach up and you give the belts a good tuggy tuggy and say catch it down the road that's what Austin Dillan here in our first clip 2015 this was scary it's like 3:00 in the morning yeah one of the all this is Jet dry race right oh no this was rain oh yesh I remember watching this and just we were standing there and Brad comes in like he's in the oil and he hits him like 10 minutes later it felt like he was sitting there and Brad just come sliding in Little Lane Frost oh buddy Little Lane Frost wave to the crowd so I was oh oh my goodness dude that photographer there was about 30 yards from a very bad day so I was funny story about there parts and pieces just scattered yeah watch Brad is there so there's oil all over the track and watch Brad ready smash smash um so oh no that there's nothing that and then everybody comes running to the car the pick crew guys um I a couple things I remember about this day one we went to we were doing the exfinity car 2015 we end up winning the championship that year it was like our best Xfinity year that we had but we were doing the Xfinity car so our crew was there and we were just backing up we weren't changing tires on a cup carard this race uh we were the 21 but we were doing part schedule or something we weren't whatever we weren't doing this race we go to the water park in Daytona Sunday morning like this will be a great idea we don't have to be at the track till 1:00 the um this opens at 10:00 or nine right so we are the first ones there and we are the only ones there and we go down every slide at this water park no less than 10 times are you getting do you understand what a water park does to the bottom of your feet yeah and do you understand how many steps you have to go up so what we were calling the whole day The Best Day Ever we get to the track it rained we didn't we had been at the water park at 9:00 a.m. the race didn't start till like midnight it slowly turned into the worst night of all time with raw feet we were tired from the water park 3:00 in the morning everything's wet it was like what the hell are we doing so that is my story about that 2015 I'm glad that stuck with you it was terrible but then 2017 one of kickball captains we should have been doing kickball um that's also glad you brought that up we're going to do a kickball draft episode Special Edition because this will be the first year we're doing like captains with a draft and the whole thing it's going to be a Ricky Stenhouse Jr Team a blay team Bubba and myself so we're gonna have a pretty fun episode we're going to be doing that next week I believe but uh it'll be dropping here before the it's about kickball time ladies and gentlemen but run it if you have ideas for those Four's kickball team name send them in send them in for paying for your thoughts um love to hear them also would love to hear Ricky's famous line from the 2017 firecracker 400 we won the firecracker 400 man that's awesome uh been coming down here since 2008 came in 2006 one time with Bobby Hamilton Jr and uh it's cool that uh we put it in Victory Lane got our second win this year what do you want to say to these fans they're hearing you right now Ricky love it thank you for coming out here everybody in NASCAR woo America 1776 we are the Champs we are the Champs we are the Champs it so funny like where did that even come from uh the mind of a Mississippi fow that's where that came from with fireworks going on in the back uh Ricky Stenhouse all time he's a great Speedway racer he was really good in the old cars and look see if he can get it done this weekend he could be a spoiler his cars fast Michigan he could I'm there's there's legitimately 20 guys on the outside of the playoffs 18 guys in the outside of the playoffs that could okay move the move the line not picking yourself who locks himself in this weekend not picking yourself who's the spoiler can't already be in the playoffs going to come um I probably need a a lookie at the point but what's the points have to do with it well I just I'm curious to see kind of who's where but there's McDow right McDow LED he was throwing what about Todd Widowmaker blocks on himself all the way up until about a half mile left the to so Todd Gillan I would I'd put my money on Michael over Todd um Mike's been there and he was there the last Speedway race then the doors opened up for Tyler reic so what about the Legacy cars I just don't think it's going to be a Toyota even though I understand that Tyler reic won it doesn't seem like those guys can lead Lanes particularly well those cars are pretty draggy I could see them being being you know second or third in line and then being being aggressive yeah aggressive those things push well nice flat nose but I don't see those guys being a dominant unless they you know 20 and the 11 hook up and they just commit to each other all day um who won 5 Jones also has won this race before so it's not you know he's been signed a multi-year agreement again this past week they announced that's what makes me that's what makes the game of hand and John Hunter I just think yeah like you said Kyle bus you know he's got a little bit of forward momentum rcr's got some momentum it legitimately can be it can be anybody yeah whoever comes out I don't I disagree with that I don't think it could be anybody I think that there's more guys but I don't think that there's that that it could be any I don't think it could be anybody I think you have to be crafty to get to the front you have to have good crew chief to play the game right look forward AG you have to have speed in your car to be able to hang on up there yeah um so all those factors go into it but yeah like you said there's there's things that happen here do you think under over seven cautions o under I think Seven's a good two stage breaks and then we count the stage breaks as cautions yeah um I'm G take you under on that I think you're two big ones two big ones yeah I just feel it depends on when they're timed cuz if you get one that's timed like a late one then you get green white checkered then you guys are precautions in July or August um okay that's it I don't know who's going to be a spoiler hopefully it's that seven car we're going to be prepared and we're going to do the best we can to put oursel in position to steal one and punch our ticket cuz this is as good a shot as anybody Coke zero sugar 400 Saturday night guys Prime Time 7:30 NBC or MRN if you're listening to us we're on the NASCAR app or
