McLaren driver Oscar pastri has made it clear that the team will prioritize the Formula 1 Constructors Championship over helping Lando Norris in his bid to catch Max for stappen in the driver Championship Mclaren has shown impressive performances in recent months with both Norris and piastri winning their first races in F1 this season since Norris victory at the Miami Grand Prix in May the team has had one of the strongest cars scoring podiums in 10 consecutive races at the Belgian Grand Prix p R finished second consolidating the team's performance piastri explained to Sky Sports news that the main goal is to win the constructor's championship given that they have been closing the Gap to Red Bull in the last six or seven races McLaren currently sits 42 points behind Red Bull in the Constructor standings while Norris is 78 points behind driver Championship leader ver stappen with 10 races remaining when the season resumes with the Dutch Grand Prix from August 23rd to 25th the first objective is to win the construct championship for the team and I think we have a very good chance to do that piastri said we have been closing the Gap to Red Bull in the last six or seven races piastri also stressed that while he would like to finish as high as possible in the driver's Championship his main focus is on helping the team win the constructor's championship and maintaining consistency in its performances if there comes a situation where I need to help Lando later in the year of course it will be something we will discuss but the first goal is to win the Constructor champion ship and do a good job for me as well piastri added McLaren was not considered a title Contender at the start of the Season especially after Red Bull dominated the first few races however pastry's victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix has put the team in a strong position for the future piastri expressed his confidence in the team's performance and optimism for next year last year we had a very fast car on certain circuits but we really needed to rely on those circuits to get good results this year we've been fast everywhere and that's been a joy it gives us a lot of confidence to know that we can be if not the fastest one of the fastest at any circuit and I think that sets us up very well for next year
