No more rust, dust or mold. Beaumont City Council members are in shock tonight after ExxonMobil walked into today's council meeting with a $100,000 check. That money will be used to revamp Charlton Pollard Park in September. You may recall the city barricaded off that parks playground. The 19 year old structure was showing major signs of rust and decay. Yeah, a lot of people thought it was just downright dangerous, right? 12 news reporter Ebony Coleman was at City Hall today. And Ebony, I know you spoke to Exxon. Mobile and families about what this will mean for the neighborhood. Sorry guys, families say it's a huge step forward to getting their neighborhood back to what it once was, and they're looking forward to finally having a central hub where their kids can only play, but families they can gather. Our park is the heartbeat of our community, and this is the start of restoring it. For the families who drive by Charlton Pollard Park every day and see their playground barricaded off, it's a sad reminder of what used to be. But thanks to ExxonMobil, hope is being restored. The company surprised the city with a $100,000 donation. When our community is in need, we respond to that call. It's important for us to be a good neighbor. Nakisha burns with ExxonMobil in Beaumont says she found out about the park's dire need of renovations after speaking with Charlton Pollard community leaders and families last summer. Like Cheryl Jackson, who's glad to see the 19 year old playground will get a complete makeover for Exxon Mobil to invest in US. I've just filled I'm filled with joy and happiness. Beaumont leaders say they've already used part of the city's $1.4 million Parks and Recreation budget to buy a new playground. While it's too early to tell exactly what Exxonmobil's generous donation will be used for, city leaders say every cent will be used for Charlton Paulette Park. We can take a look at some additional things that we were looking to spend some of the $1.4 million. On, and now we have an additional $100,000. It's going to be done the right way, and it's gonna be excellent that this is what it takes in order to get us the things that we so desire as a neighborhood, as a community. Mayor Mouton says while they are not sure when the equipment will arrive, they plan to install it as soon as possible. Families to jump on around and have a ball. Ebony Coleman, 12 news.
