Wyoming's Big Test: Can the Cowboys Shock Arizona State in a High-Stakes Mountain West Showdown?

out of all the Mountain West teams this weekend they have the best well actually probably out of all the Mountain West teams in the first two weekends probably have the best chance of beating a power four is that what we're calling him now yeah guess and you know that could really set the stage for how wyom season goes the rest of the [Applause] time all right Mike it's do they call this week zero week one of uh NCAA football I'm not sure but anyways yeah Wyoming has its uh Mountain West opener I shouldn't say Mountain West opener sorry season opener they're going all the way down to Phoenix specifically Tempe taking on Arizona State who no they are not in the Pack 12 Mike what are they in they're in the Big 12 now go 12 to 12 it doesn't even have 12 it has more than 12 who knows but wyng takes on ASU season opener Saturday at 8:30 p.m. so you know heat not as much of a factor still going to be somewhat but at least they're out of you know not midday this isn't a a noon in Tempe Arizona in the Valley of the Sun there's a reason they don't play those games at noon DK it's a yeah I I I mean it's still going to be hot let's be honest it's it's Tempe and it's you know 8:30 p.m. it's still going to be like 100° it's going to be ridiculous so Mike who you got in this I you know Durk I I don't know a whole lot in in the nil era it's hard to really say program to program year to year what Arizona state has going on but quite frankly it's just not been a very good football program for years I mean we're going back to like you mean her didn't do a good job I know I mean we're going back to like he didn't play to the wind game the Terrell Suggs era is the last time like Arizona State really was solid and even before that we're going back to the Jake plumber Pat Tilman era for these guys so I mean it's it's all the way back there that Arizona state has been a super super competitive program well and you've had some top talent wide or sorry running back from Wyoming going to Arizona in previous years kind of a Revenge game in some ways of hey you took a like really good running back and then didn't even really play him yeah it'll be interesting Derk I I mean you know obviously a a bigger power five conference school you're probably going to have more athletic talent but I I lean to give Wyoming the slight Edge on this for continuity the Cowboys return most of their team have a lot of really good players on there the defense should be tough I I think it's going to be a nail bite game I you know what I I think that the the head says to go Arizona state by a field goal in this but Wyoming puts up a really good fight would not be shocked to see the Cowboys with it no I think this is actually a really good scheduled game for Wyoming too out of all the Mountain West teams this weekend they have the best well actually probably out of all the Mountain West teams in the first two weekends probably have the best chance of beating a power four is that what we're calling him now team yeah I guess you know that could really set the stage for how Wyoming season goes the rest of the time Mountain West football is going to be really under a microscope this year because Boise state is projected by all accounts to be not only the you know Mountain West Conference Championship but on all of the projections Boise state is going into the expanded tournament format this year this could give some momentum to Wyoming to really start you know taking it to task I think Wyoming's projected as a top four finisher in the Mountain West Mike any long-term things that you're looking for out of this game uh no I mean you want to obviously come out of it injuryf free and it's a huge thing to get a win uh I mean it's been a long time I think since Wyman got a road victory over a power four power five school like that so notching that is is a big deal if you go on the road and win this game uh Honestly though I I I think you're looking for quarterback play Derk uh you know obviously you've got a quarterback who had some game experience not just game experience but big game experience against Texas last year and and hung in there but it's a different thing to step in and and become the starter uh especially while while I'm shocked it's the case Peasley is you know dabbling in the NFL now make the roster I I don't know that's a good question I I I doubt it but you know he nevertheless had you know looks from NFL teams so there's clearly some Talent there that's departing yeah uh it'll it'll be a very very big focal point on this game what about you what are you watching yeah I'm watching to see what the difference is going to be in the play calling I mean you have we just talked about in earlier segment the traditional coach bull era play calling had always been we're going to grind you down in the first half and it's going to be some horrific spectator type of football to watch I mean it's one of those things where it's one two three runs in a row and oh we didn't even make the first down now we're punting and we're going right back at it and you know over the course of the game we're going to grind you down it was not uncommon to pull up a Wyoming football game at Halftime and see that Andrew peas was something like three of 15 for 35 yards and I'm looking to see what they changed on the offensive play calling and seeing how their pass game can really get developed because simply put it was abysmal last year yeah I mean I that's I it's not really trying to like throw barbs at Peasley but I think that's what's like shocking about seeing Peasley get traction uh getting some Tri outs and stuff in the NFL was that we just saw the stats and it was just such an odd and odd thing you would look at that and be like there's no way right uh nevertheless it'll be interesting to see how the offensive system has evolved uh on the defensive side of the ball a lot of talent returns look it's kind of a a now and never moment for Wyoming this year about winning the conference I think it's you know college football continues to be in flux this is a great opportunity for Wyoming to to make a run at it got it started off strong down in Arizona we'll see how it goes a
