so rapper lrae just released a song on his Instagram and it was basically a response to Kendrick Lamar shouting him out on his song that he also posted to Instagram a couple days ago where he was basically attacking the toxic part of hip-hop culture and this wasn't a disc by any means necessary um this was basically a way of lrae agreeing with some of the things that Kendrick was saying in the song and what I get out of it he's letting Kendrick know you have an ally you have an ally in this game of Hip Hop um especially when we're talking about conscious rap and whatnot welcome back to the voiceovers podcast I'm 24K Logan so you know one thing about this with this song that lrae just released I wanted to touch on just a few of the lyrics and tie that into what I think is is coming for hip hop because I believe that hip hop is potentially going into a Renaissance especially when we talk about conscious rap if you will so of course um towards the beginning of the song There is um a part where lrae says I was a party victim I brought the party favors I use my single Mama I'm sorry I use my trauma my single Mama to justify commas to pay the the devil's wages you know basically talking about the things that he did when he was younger things that he's I'm not so proud of and you know of course that was a big thing that Kendrick Lamar was saying in his song watch the party die and lrae was basically saying well there was a time before um I had this Awakening and before I became a Christian rapper I was the party there was also a part where he said I want the dealers head who gave my cousin fent all um I don't know if he was saying that in a I don't think he was saying that in like a I want to kill this man type of way I don't I don't think that's what he was saying but just how he hates that his cousin you know went through that but then the two parts of the song that really stuck out to me is when lrae said labels exploding rapping addicts man I'm sick of y'all and he also said fake tough rappers that fabricate their predicaments so for me again this is this entire song is in my opinion it's lra's way of telling Kendrick okay you have an out lie I appreciate the shout out now I'm letting you know you have an outly when it comes to this conscious rap thing because of course you know at this moment in time this day and age conscious rap is almost looked at as corny or boring and I can kind of understand that perspective right because you're not playing Christian rap in a club or a bar um you're not playing Christian rap or conscious rap at a club you know what I'm saying and it's one of those things where you know in this day and age especially why you have your your conscious rappers or your socially aware rappers ERS or Christian rappers like a lrae a D1 a Kendrick Lamar a jcole you know all those guys going into that category of either being conscious rappers to an extent or Christian rappers right but they're the minority of hip-hop because a lot of the songs that are dominating the charts and it's kind of always been like this in a way but the majority of the songs that are dominating the charts in hip hop either it's something that's toxic or it's a quote unquote party song or a twerk SL ratchet song right and you know in Kendrick's career he's always been about promoting positivity to the youth giving a positive message to the youth you know because they're the future they're the Next Generation that's always been Kendrick stain right and with lrae being a Christian rapper I mean I'm sure it's safe to assume that that's kind of been his thing as well to um not necessarily promote or Force Christianity on to the youth or on to others but to give a different type of message a more positive and uplifting message um when we talk about hip hop right and even though he wasn't mentioning the song D1 because D1 was mentioning Kendrick's song um but not lrae song to my knowledge um you know for me it's like okay this has been going on too long I'm kind of speaking from the what I believe the perspective is from lrae or even Kendrick or even D1 I believe that their perspective is like okay this has been going on too long there has been so much derogatory statements made in Hip Hop there's been so much degrading of women um promotion of violence not all of it obviously um but there's been a lot of that and for these guys it's like okay we have to be the ones who even if we're not going to put an end to this we're not only going to continue to promote conscious music or promote a positive message but we're going to without doing it in a violent way we're gonna attack the toxic nature or some of the toxic things within hip-hop culture and this is how we do it we're forming some type of Allegiance some type of Alliance because if we don't stick together who else is going to do it if we don't start to promote more positive things within hip hop who else is going to do it and again you know I've said this on this channel before when you listen to rap music music not everything has to be woke not everything has to be um socially aware or conscious or conscious rap not everything in hip-hop has to be that because I tend to enjoy some party songs and whatnot cuz sometime you know I like to kick my feet back just chill just have a good time but again there has to be a decent balance see if you look back on hip hop in the '90s and even the early part of the 2000s right there was more of a balance yeah you had rappers promoting violence to a an extent right you had ratchetness you had Rony music right but you also had a lot of somewhat politically conscious rappers at least at some point in their career Tupac um biggie Ice Cube has some political things in his songs I'm I'm sorry not biggie but um Nas Nas was obviously a very I don't want to say he was very like politically aware but he had a lot of messages and a lot of conscious content in his music but i s all that to say back in those days it was more of a balance and now today it's like it's kind of oversaturated if you will with and and it kind of plays a part in what you actually choose to listen to but when we're talking the majority of the mainstream there has been more to a degree there's been more toxic material than positive material um and I'm I'm not going to you know mention any names you know I'm not against I'm not against a rapper telling his or her reality of where they come from the things that they witnessed around them growing up but I think there does come a point in time in your music where it's like okay you told your story about the things that you saw what you might have done or what you didn't do or whatever the case may be now try to move on to something else and of course every artist is not going to change their subject matter but again I think it all goes back to having that balance and I think that's what lrae was somewhat hinting at in this song You Know saying that there has to be a balance I mean he literally called out and it wasn't just the rappers I mean he's I think he's talking about entire hip-hop culture because there was a point where he said I want the Dealer's head who gave my cousin fent and all labels exploiting rapping addicts man I'm sick of y'all so he's not just coming at the rappers he's also talking about the label heads uh the executives you know the people who control the music industry or have a lot of the financing to back things up and whatnot that's what I think this was ultimately for a cray and it ties in very well to Kendrick's um recent song so you know all in all man I definitely appreciated this track and I do think it was something that was needed um there's going to be people who are going to look at this as corny people who are going to think this was unnecessary and I mean it is what it is everybody's entitled to their own opinion but I definitely think that we needed this type of something between what Kendrick had released um a couple days ago and what L CR just gave us I think Hip-hop or conscious hip-hop I should say is in somewhat of a Renaissance because I think it's becoming if it wasn't more obvious already it's becoming more obvious now that you know the negativity is somewhat starting to outweight the positivity in Hip Hop but that'll do it for today guys I I really I'm going to have to go back to listen to this I'm going to have to go back to listen to this a few more times because I'm sure there were things that I missed but you know this is kind of just my immediate instant reaction to the song and what I'm thinking right now but thank you guys so much for watching if you're new to the channel hit that subscribe button we have plenty of content on the way I'm going to continue doing more coverage on this whole situation because um I feel like there's more yet to come out of this Kendrick Lamar has been making a lot of headlines he shouted out D1 and I'm honestly at this point I would not be surprised if D1 was to um release a song on his Instagram also uh responding to Kendrick and somehow some way those three songs combine and they form some type of Allegiance or something like that possibly it's a possibility but we'll have to see but thank you guys again for watching and until next time peace and love to everybody
