what is happening everybody breaking news we've had to jump on and do a podcast our early faults and our reflection on the new news cane believe it we have got a new interim England manager Lee carsley what are your first thoughts Kanye let me know first thoughts I think it's very much a what's brok a don't fix it this is exactly what they did with saf brought in similar way from the the 21s brought him to take charge for now and gone from there this is I think this is very safe from the English FA I'm I'm assuming because they open it to Applications I'm assuming they must have had some applications which you think yeah that' be a good shout if this is just the temporary one until pettino comes in brilliant but I don't know for me I just don't I don't don't make any sense right you don't need an England manager right now there's no friendlies coming up there's no's nothing for him to do right now I can understand if we're getting close to qualifiers but no I don't I don't get it I don't get it in an inh house appointment again like you said along the same lines as South Gate he's obviously took charge of the under 21s are we going for the same sort of model as Spain by getting a coach that stays with those players through the age groups so they are one cohesive unit or is this just called into a manager to soften the blow that this is maybe not a very sexy name and is there an argument that although he's done well at the younger age groups he's not got a great deal of experience and uh this is where it used to be the biggest job in football is the England job still the biggest job in football and is Lee Carley and he CV someone deserving of that because there was talk about the importance of Premier League experience or does that not really matter at International level I don't think it matters as much now especially now with players playing all over Europe now you know I mean there's a few of the 21s in Germany you've got Bellingham at Madrid there's talk of Trent going to Madrid yeah I wouldn't say that that is necessarily as important um but I think bringing the players together especially ones with at this level players the OS are going to be everywhere not in a in a bad way they should be they've earned it but yeah maybe it is what you say maybe because he's not a sexy name will put him in charge give him a chance to to do something but that's the fa's thoughts but to me if that's what you think is the Football Association then then back it if you want Lee Carley to be the man this is how we want to do it we want to continue on from sth come out and say that like you can back it up by South Kate has taken England to a semi-final and two finals in six years we want to continue on that sort of road so we're going to continue with what we're doing Lee Harley's shown similar traits that we've seen in southg 21s he's happy to continue that model that's sound but to do it this way I don't know I don't it don't make any sense like are they are they waiting for someone else unless memory serves me wrong bloody fly attacking me live uh unless memory servs me wrong this is a similar way that they revealed and Unleashed Southgate as well which I remember feeling was a slightly underwhelming appointment at the time we've been down the route of Sven gar and Erikson and Fabio Capello you seem to imply there in if this is just a temporary appointment until poch becomes available poino do you think that pochettino would be a better option because other than a good spell at Southampton I don't think that his football in CV has blown me away he's not really made any inroads at Chelsea and now talk of him for the England job I mean you could argue maybe he's got a better profile than carsley but but but you seem to be unless I've misread that you seem to be in playing you'd be happy with poch I would absolutely be happy with poch right so how I would look at it with po at Southampton I think he did really well with the players he got in made some brought in some clever signings got the team playing well brought players on he's a coach England don't really need like a daytoday manager yeah you need someone to come in with a style be able to implement that style and get the get the players playing to their best at Spurs he did quite well at Spurs considering I know you don't like talking about Spurs and stuff like that but he's brought in some good players there made them into better players some been sold on some some still there and Spurs look good like when poch was there and then he got sacked from the year after they got to the Champions League final because he wanted to invest money to set the team forward and Dani leave it in okay sound I can understand that but at least at least they've got all them trophies from that period of time Spurs at least they they got all them trophies no they all share they all share Harry Kane's top goal scorer trophy that's what I heard is they like like when you used to play for your football club you're a player of the week you got to take the TR you bring it back to training the next week like that yeah they do that's what I heard but then the Chelsea did in between that he went to a PSG at the time Neymar mbappe was there Zlatan I think Zlatan was there you got some big OS in there dealt with them but it's that farmers League mentality that I don't I think he struggle to to shake he he he won the league one out of two years I think he was and then then left I could win the league it's like playing football manager in that league with those players like you know what I mean it's like creating a career and creating a team of players with 9 999 stats and then rolling teams over 7even nil he is genuinely like it's like I don't see that proves anything he won nothing at Spurs he was underwhelming at see him was out the door you know CH I thought he did all right at chosa considering a lot of the signings weren't his signings he he just basic we want him bang we want him bang we want him bang towards the end Chelsea look good towards the end of the season Chelsea look good like they look so what's your argument for him being the permanent England manager because he manages because he coaches and not manages not only that I'd look at him more why I would put him out there is one who's better right now who's available who who do you think we could actually go and get klopp's pretty much said that if it had the choice it would be klopp would be the perfect one for me to go going to England but I don't think he I think he's from the the announcement he made that might be him finished as a manager I hope not as hard as beats him as someone else but I think the football needs people like that um so I don't see who else there is out there I mean Eddie how I think he did well the first season at Newcastle second season with the Champions League they were looky in the Champions League to be knocked out but wasn't really like that didn't step him on and then who else you going to look at the only other outstanding managers you got pep not going to take it um the Crystal Palace manager did well American but he's only had one year who else are you really GNA get so I get the Lee carsley appointment I just think if poch is waiting to see what else is about then yeah no if you don't want it they don't want it but I think po would be the What's happen I think he's the best option like I think you touched on some it there I think what's pertinent is the lack of of candidates the lack of options particularly if you want to stay with an English manager managing the english team yeah the the only the only people that were really spoken about were uh Eddie how as you've mentioned um in terms of English manager and and let's talk out about the man that has got in now the man in the hot seat Lee carsley what do we know about him I remember him from his playing days not seen a lot of the under 20 RS I will say I was guilty of looking at a few Clips they do seem to play some really nice football so really quick one and two touch passing you know moving into position what what do you know about his style tactically not see much of him in regards to style um I remember was a player so he was a physical T tough tackling midfielder but you say English didn't he play for Ireland I think he did yeah I think he did yeah do you know I mean if you speak you listen to him speak definitely English he plays forand so is that is that different having an Irish manager to having an yeah but but at the same time both both Jack Charon and Mick McCarthy both managed Ireland so is it a big deal but I mean he is still English right and if you're looking for the English manager does it matter where he he he obviously made that decision because he didn't feel like maybe he was strong enough to get into the country of his birth so he went down to grandparents rope yeah yeah that's fair that's very already If he if he if that doesn't make him qualified to do it then why is he managing the younger age groups so I mean what do you think the back mind having a for manager having a for manager makes no difference to me is to me it's the same as the the pundit thing get the best man person qualified for the job let's get the best man in or woman or whatever into the position to do the job that's how I look at it so that's why with the the poino thing if we're going to go down the route of English then do we class car is English because he played for Ireland I know he's played in England and probably Liv in England most of his life that's but he's you look at him as a footballer he will say Irish cats so is he English or is he Irish you know what I mean like thato living in the country for 10 years living and breathing football being around football especially management that long in England would he not be a better suit candidate especially because what he's been doing in England has been the job that we're looking for him to take yeah exactly that and and and is there a benefit of this model like I touched on earlier on with Spain where you already know the players and you progress and evolve with them through the age groups that's exactly what the Spanish manager did a lot of people were saying he hasn't done it at this level at this age group and uh they they've gone a w a trophy yeah play one one what more you need I understand that I I get that I think that idea there is the route you want I it's very much like a similar man City's model they've had nesa there who was being groomed to to get closer to pep he went to Leicester did really well now he's at Chelsea areta similar went to Arsenal done really well so yeah I like the idea of it if it's planned to me though I don't think it was planned because they wouldn't have opened it for applications it would have been this is the rout we going we're going to go with Lee carler to take over from Southgate because it's the model that we're looking at to open it applications for people I just I don't see the point in that that sort of means the model is the backup rather than the the choice while SP is almost like jerk rather than a planned Evolution because you would think that if the natural progression was to step carsley up a level he would have been maybe working under the Tage of Southgate yeah and learning a job and being around the senior players I don't know if he was there but like was he there at the tournament that'd be crazy if you if you know there's a possibility sou leaving you've got the under 21 manager sitting here at home why you not around these players like you could be there you could be there helping with the sessions and helping with the coaching and just being an assistant to the the manager then now you're around the players and if that was me as the fa that's how we won it if that's the plan to promote within get you around like it's the same if as it's like running a bar if I know I'm leaving the bar in three weeks or say three months for example my assistant will be around me more and there'll be someone who World want to around the assistant more in that time to sort of Groom into the position so if I'm going into something like a major event I'd take the system manager with me you know what I mean like so this is why it feels kneejerk I wouldn't if I know I'm hiring my assistant manager to replace me I wouldn't advertise the job L this job is yours until you lose it that you've shown enough I've seen enough I'm gonna interview you I've worked with you do you know what I mean that's how I'd look at it yeah that's that's logical but then then we play Devil's AV Ricardo is there a sense that um Southgate was well he walked up I think it was Mutual consent I think he walked away I think he he this Devils avocado I think he decided to call it a day uh and walk away from the job there wasn't there was a definite feeling of underachievement and being underwhelmed lots of people make the point he's the most successful England manager since Ramy but the the black and tan fact of it which maybe sounds a bit harsh is he hasn't won anything like for me like I'm not I'm not not giving him credit I'm playing Devil's am Ricardo right so of course he's done better you know the national team's done better and he's in a better State than when he picked it up eight years ago or so right yeah but but losing in the final is not winning that's first loser second sucks right so the point is he WS because if he' the won of the Euros then there may have been argument to keep him carrying on for the sake of my argument is there an argument that when a a manager that failed to get over line it's time for him to move on if you've got Cosley around him and working with a squad and then he steps into his shoes is there that stigma of different name on the bench but same regime so nothing really changes is there an argument that kley wanted to distance himself from Southgate because he wants to come in as his own man with his own ideas playing his own style with his own players and the second part of that question is this is this the end for Kane because with the under 21s manager coming in Kane having a underwhelming tournament I don't know if he was carrying an injury or if his legs are starting to go which which happens to all of us could this be now if this young youth concentrated manager at least for on an interim basis could it be the end for Kane and could it be looking to the future in this fresh regime well start off with the is TR to distance himself from the south gate thing if you're the English FA and you've got a manager that is managed to take you to two finals and a semi-final I would as as a business try and continue that route and put bring someone in who has a similar sort of way but with a tweak so maybe that's why they're going to go around I mean if england got to with serial six like serial finalist and semi-finalist at some point you'd expected to win one you know I mean like that's what I expect maybe that's the the fa going in regards to League card and looking at that if he wanted to separate himself from Southgate he would not have taken the inter room John I am either your manager or I'm not that's how I would look at it but is that not two separate teams like in the world of football I I don't think you could consider somebody who's the under 20 R's manager as like it's different to club and Country what you say yeah absolutely but in in the same same break as that if it's worked once why can't it work again if you look at it from the fa's point of view has it worked are England better now than have we one of the think what's in the trophy cabinet yeah but you can't only one team can win every four years whilst that's true you can you label it a success though and say it's worked so let's stay with that route for us for us that hasn't worked is it for us that's got us closer we've we've edged closer but now you you're throwing the baby out with a bathwater and moving in with a different style different manager potentially different players so is it is it is it Revolution or Evolution see I I think they're looking at where they've gone so if you say to me right I want to I say right I want to um be able to run 100 met in 11 seconds if I'm starting 12 and a half is it better for me to get in a year's time right I'm doing it in 12 now that's the progression you're looking at and I think if I'm the fa and that's the route they want to go then I see that part we've gone from being not qualifying knocked out in the group stage knocked out in the corner finals to now two finals in a semi-final you know I mean who who do we lose to in the semi was France France won it so in all the last three of South Gates tournaments I mean I think I don't think he's he's great manager at all but the last three of his tournaments he's lost to the winner to the winner of the tournament so then we touched on our recent podcast in a in an unpopular opinion about does does that put us in that standing or was we fortunate with our side of the draw in those tournaments nothing he can control you can only beat what's in front of you no but you're using it as an argument for success in England your your original point was that it has worked but my but my devil's avocado was that we haven't won anything we've been fortunate with the draws maybe another manager could have got them to that stage so I'm not sure the system is working if we had won a tournament out of the last three or four then I would then I would concede like the the period where France went through where they won the Euros then the World Cup you know that that's success that's a successful model not not falling at the far hurdle and not having the balls to make changes or taking off Dean rice when you're controlling a game against Italy three four years ago you know that that for me is not necessarily the right model um we've got a couple of people in the chat below let's have a little look we've got a few people watching we can take some live comments so if anybody wants to chip in with their opinions on the breaking news breaking news this hour that Lee Cosley under 21's England manager has been offered the full permanent senior England maner man his job on an interim basis if you missed the beginning we're discussing just what that means is it until somebody else becomes available is he a sexy enough name does he have experience one of the things that was leveled at Southgate as a criticism was that his Club CV wasn't particularly spectacular he got relegated with middles bro um and he didn't really do a lot is it the same for carsley or are we better off keeping that uh that model or looking to emulate that model that Spain have just done by bringing the player as an evolution through the youth as we step up through the age groups let us know in the comments the couple of people that are on at the moment watching and we will address and read out your comments um coming back to the style of football I I did like the way they were knocking the ball about and and there's definitely an argument that the style of football under Southgate was very cautious very Safety First at times tured and if I'm not being too harsh on him was at times boring to watch wasn't it are you excited about maybe watching a bit more of a progressive game playing between the lines bit more movement bit more attacking intent you is that the way the national team should be or is the result would be your one Endor I was always go with football is entertainment sport I would rather be entertained and see a team see my team try than see it being Bor and I would absolutely dropped out bit oh you're back back my person opinion I think you to me football is always an entertainment sport you got to entertain and watching that our England play majority of that tournament wasn't entertaining It wasent Go on sorry I think that's s not there the entertainment job is based on results so I can get where he's coming from but as a fan I want to be entertained like have a go at teams go but do that's the question I would pose to you would you rather see your team 33 or scrape out a one-nil win and celebrate the win this flyer is killing me on a live broadcast is going at me like going in my head um we can't be look go yeah I know I just look crazy don't I like um that should be the funna now um look Kanye goals are fun right goals are fun and of course we always want to see goals but surely at International level it's a results based business the football might have been boring and defensive and safety first we might have played with a handbreak on but but surely if we'd have gone all the way through playing defensively not looking spectacular and lifted that Trophy up after seven one- nil wins we' have took that wouldn't we absolutely in like who who won when Italy won the Euros they weren't particularly good that that that that tournament no one talks about that no no the history books remember the winners this is what I mean and in 10 years time we won't be talking about England reaching a semi and two finals we won't be talking about that because that that ultimately is the most heartbreaking way baring losing on penalties in the final of of un of underachieving it's not success you know it's it's progression for us and we're definitely giving his duw in a better place than where we started but you can't you can't you know if if I if I if I not you know this will make you laugh this comparison if I turn up at the Olympics and I run the first 90 meters in eight seconds and then fall on my face before the line no one's giving me a gold medal and telling me I won the race but if you ran the 100 meters and someone beat you at the line or someone SM so you ran it in 20 seconds they ran in 10 you still get a silver medal but that's if you're happy with coming second depends on your Winner's mentality I guess uh I guess we'll have to see and I guess we got to give our support we have got a comment coming Tommy malun thanks for coming on mate you're in the comments Tommy says I'd much rather see the team play attacking football Southgate was far too defensive stroke boring for me he didn't make changes quickly enough EG substitutions and tactical changes what do you think of that has Tommy got a point completely agree I think he was very much so defensive like we we've spoken about this separately and he he didn't know his best 11 like you heading into the tournament obviously you get injuries you get suspensions you pick your players and whatnot he didn't know his best 11 he didn't know his best formation he didn't know if he wanted to be a 4 2 31 he didn't know if to be a 4-33 in a Midfield yeah yeah again we if if I'm a midfielder that's playing well for England and you've put the right back in there instead of me I completely understand why footballers don't want to play for the the country anymore you you're picking someone who doesn't play my position to take my position because he's got a range of passing tell you what if you want to play him play him in his position if you think he's that good take the take the risk and drop K Walker and have that attacking threat from the position he is an attacking threat from or change his shape or change his shape and include kle Walker in in the on the right of a back three and play Trent as a right wing back if you want to include those things but that comes back to the argument we had on our channel on another podcast was was he guilty Southgate of just picking his favorite personnel and squeezing them in somehow into whatever system rather than picking the best system to get the most out of those players to sharpen our attack attack and neutralize the threat of the opposition and is Carly going to do the same although we know enough about him tactically I would be surprised if Cosley did that purely because if he from the under 21s not not knowing Cosley personally or anything like that just looking at from where he comes from the way he played I don't think he'd have an issue with telling someone no you're not playing or no it's not working for I mean you've got how he's been playing for the under 21 been 21 manager so he's obviously he's got people that have gone from him to the the England Senior Team gay for example another one he's done that he's now got to the point where now he can pick and choose his amend but I think he will pick the best but I think he'll pick the best for his style I think he will be similar to Southgate but he will change that just because of looking at him from a footballer I think he's got that sort of especially a sense midfielder I think hopefully he'll have a 360 mentality rather than South Gates one style maybe I'm being too harsh and judging him from a positional point of view but it just seems I hope K does do that and hopefully he's listened to the he's have the same complaints as we have as a fan of what we're stopping so what's stopping us from doing what we're doing so yeah hopefully that will be a nice change and it will be different yeah you said there about um because I remember he was No Nonsense especially when he at Derby was he at Derby County have I got out yeah was at Derby when he played at Derby No Nonsense he he he won't mind he won't was he at Everton as well for a [Music] time oh you frozen you've done a doctor evil on me I I want you to go back and watch this because while you're in it's frozen you look like you want to go I will support Cosley for $1 million1 million yeah was he ever for a Time yeah it was EV yeah was EV yeah I thought yeah so you're saying he's no nonsense and he he'll tell people straight um about you know no qu about dropping them but Willie because footballers have changed in this generation the game's become softer you can't really speak to people like that having cut his teeth so to speak working with the youth players the younger players the under 21s do you think he'll be quite so ruthless or will he have learned to deal with the modern player a little bit more softly softly kick gloves if he's worked with the youth players I would expect him to still give the same messages but how he delivers it to change there's a way of saying to someone you're not playing there's some people react well to that some people you need to say listen I'm going to try someone else I still want you around the squad just take the break this time so so I'm think I expect it to be I'm thinking maybe like maybe if you Kan you're not playing you're [ __ ] you're too spursy that's fair enough at it much I mean it could just speak facts and say listen you've won nothing and you you bringing us down we've got a comment coming are you able to click on that and read that out can you can you see bottom of the screen if you click on the bottom right you can see comments and you should have a little number one where it's highlighted if not I can do it thought you might want to read this one up there is it there is it I think that's it no I can't see it that's all right I'll click on it we got another comment so we's see what this says this is a chat called Michael that says brilliant Insight you to are amazing so that's really nice of him so thanks for that Michael we'll have to try and get you on a show at some point you know I mean right well listen that's a that's our early reactions to new interim manager Lee carsley will it become a permanent appointment are you underwhelmed does he have the experience does he have the TAC for the job are you excited about his potential style of play is lack of Premier League experience important to you is he just keeping the seat warm until somebody else becomes available do the fa have a plan are they appointing him for now whilst conducting more interviews behind the scenes or is it pointless making the appointment as we don't really have much coming up anyway and they could
