hello Michael Swain here after Kansas football's 48-3 win over lyonwood here at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City um I wish I had some profound things to say about this game but it was generally um a little bit unremarkable you know Kansas cruises to a a really comfortable win it wasn't the fastest start from KU as they knocked off some Rust early but this was a game I think you really saw KU Dominate and look like a team that if they're going to achieve the things that I think the players have the goals of this is what you do to a mediocre FCS team you control the pace you wind down the clock in the second half minimal possessions overall and you grind out of Victory and that's exactly what Kansas did starting off let's talk about playing here um it was a really cool environment I was interested to see a what the crowd was going to be like obviously it does not see anywhere near as many as David Booth can't morial Stadium it's a more intimate setting it's also a Thursday night and it rained right before the game and it's hot and yet it was still packed and I thought the fans that were here and did get their tickets and were able to be here uh made a lot of noise and the student section that was seated right back there I thought they did a great job of staying engaged throughout the game and they made a lot of noise so overall I mean this is a really cool place to see a a football game you're really on top of the action I mean I've seen soccer games here before and it feels like you're close um I'm sure it feels the same way watching a football game I was is way up in the the old Press Box way up there but um really cool environment interested to see how you know UNLV game another contest here and then everything moves the arrowhead where it's a football stadium so it's going to feel a little more traditional but it did have the feeling of almost like a bowl game and I don't know if any other fans who are here maybe you feel the same way um but just the different venue the fact that it wasn't super like straightforward if you walk you know if you watch where the players came out from um just the vibe I think around it felt very bull gamey and for KU you know obviously it's a good result to start the year in terms of individual performances I think we probably got to start with Jaylen Daniels um obviously great to see him out throwing the ball again looking like Jaylen I think that's a big takeaway from me today is the fact that Jaylen Daniels came out here looked like himself looked healthy and I thought just had a really solid game he had the one miscommunication with Luke Grim that's something they both talked about afterwards jayen wore it he said that he messed up didn't recognize the right coverage from a defensive back who did a good job disguising it and so luk Grim ran a route against a certain coverage and then jayen threw a different route that would have been run against a different coverage so in theory makes sense miscommunication happens um obviously Quinton Skinner also had his fumble right back there was it a fumble the answer is no um something weird happened with the replay Booth where I guess the official told Lance Li pulled hey I'm hoping the replay play Booth can look at it and something didn't happen I don't know how the heck that happens but it did and I guess that's what happens when it's an ESPN plus broadcast and you're in a soccer stadium so that was weird but generally with Jaylen I think you got to feel pretty good about what he showed here tonight um Devon Neil looks like Devon Neil he's got a knack for just knocking off some big long runs in season openers and then shutting up shop he's done it three years in a row now which is great to see um defensively man that unit just flew around there's some athletes there now and I think that's really clear to see and that's a huge thing for KU uh when you think about the ceiling of what this defense could be now it's lyndenwood I feel like you kind of got to keep saying that because it's a it's a mediocre FCS team so of course Kan this is going to look like it's got more physical players it's got better athletes because it does next week we'll learn a lot more when KU goes to Illinois but for a season opener and as season openers go I think it was pretty smooth sailing for k I think the great part is the fact that KU is able to get so many players on the field today and this could be the only opportunity for some of these guys to play all year like Mikey Paulie it's great to see that he's able to get on the field because there's a very good chance he does not play again this season and so for him it's a great experience right a Kansas City kid getting to play in Kansas City for KU I mean that's pretty cool story what I love to see Isaiah Marshall sure but I'm selfish and I'm kind of crazy about seeing you know the underclassman play and seeing what what the future holds for some of these guys but I think generally uh it's a great thing for KU that they're able to see uh so many players get on the field get some game reps was it pretty no there was a lot of Miss tackles in the second half but it doesn't matter for these guys it's about learning the game speed it's something me Luke Grim talked about postgame the fact that playing high school ball and then practicing in college that's a step and then practicing in college and playing in college that's another step and so some of those guys got to learn by trial by fire today but I thought overall defense looked good we talked to Dean Miller afterwards um again he looked like he should in a game like this if he's going to be the guy that is the starting weeks side defense event for KU the guy that's going to potentially lead the team in sacks given the position and the snap count he'll play he looked like he should in this game which I thought was really positive so overall for KU I think you got to feel really good about things um now there's some extra time for rest it's something I'll write about on the website over the weekend is you know KU now gets equal rest time to Illinois so it's not an advantage over Illinois but it's still equal rest time and now there's an extra couple days they'll be able to get a day off they'll have Sunday off they'll practice Monday and they'll be good to go for this week so um overall really positive positive game for KU what can you expect on the website well first of all um we'll have a podcast out Saturday no tomorrow's Friday see this is so weird playing on a
