uh we' picked Paul Walter okay tell us about Paul uh big tall allrounder um played with Manchester in the 100 we think just with this type of thing how much is watching over playing for Manchester The Originals how much is talking to people involved on the ground like where's the balance uh probably a lot of a lot of data and then actually putting eyes on it as well so matching it up and then obviously you check in and make sure that it's a you know he's going to work in with our group well so yeah look across the board it's it's all those elements r thank you happy with that both tall Paul I think is his nickname he's tall Paul he is tall and and any will be happy with that because he gives him some you've got suspens Johnson is he going to be available or is he going to be away playing for strala you got another left arm there so it's another good option I think his bowling will be suited to the gabber as well with that extra pounce he hits a big ball too so you know looking for the allrounder options you look at over and current as your first options but when you got Monroe bilan and Walter I think they're pretty happy there so that's an interesting one the Sixers have passed in the silver so that that goes straight on to the Thunder now yeah well each team does have to pass on one of the rounds so uh the Sixers have chosen to pass in this round and so you'd expect them maybe to have their pick in the last round the fourth round so uh well that's right it might be you know defeat every player in it sometimes gets hard work so sometimes you do have to to pass as you said if some going to pass somewhere so you know brisban heat for example they filled their spot so they're passing next round yeah yeah that's right and the thunder on the clock and this is where it goes pretty quick and you got to think quickly because you got to adapt and work out what you need but they seem pretty calm don't they yeah well Trevor bis is always pretty calm not too much seems to fluster him over the over the years but uh yeah they've been a very good team the Sydney Thunder and uh they'll be looking just to add to their squad now to to just just sort of top things off really to complement their local players yeah Trevor a lot of success as a coach and let's get down to Howe for a reaction on a pass pass well I guess you have to make one of them what are your thoughts um look we think we've got a fairly strong domestic uh young domestic players and um we'd like to give them you every opportunity to uh you know to improve and um and give them game time so just at this stage we pass in this round Jay how you feeling about things the way they're going yeah it's been good so far um I think the picks that we've picked have been really good um they compliment our Squad and one thing we got this year is some really nice depth you know obviously adding Liam hutcher and camon BT in that Squad as well so yeah it's exciting beautiful good luck thank you okay so they've passed I I agree I think the key and what we've seen with the scorches over many years and the Sixers for that matter is getting that good strong local talent and then if you can top it up that quality overseas uh and I think the Thunder is starting to get there they they've got some top quality local talent yeah man on screen is a pretty good player Jason sing so OE Davies they've got some quality players throughout their list um the they're the guys that have performed well at different times and now it's up to the Renegades to see which way they go and they have passed as well so again you've got to pass in one of the rounds it sometimes gets down to the salary cap with the silver and the bronze there's 100 Grand difference there so the Renegades have chosen that way which is understandable everyone's going to do it at some stage yeah so now we moved to the Hobart hurricanes uh on the clock as well yeah I guess there's so much planning and thinking that goes into it and then you've got to manage a salary cap as well and some some teams like to keep a little bit of money left over in case there are injuries uh or players leave um you know throughout the season and they need to get Replacements along the way particularly towards the back end when you're coming in around the finals time yeah that's going to be the hard one for for juggling for most franchises always is though or your Australian players available or not available and and that can happen as we know the Australian CR team you want them to play and win and Etc but your franchises needs to have availability there for certain players so that's always the tough one yeah brisban Heat have got Wiman kager and Manus leishan how much are you expecting to see them this season not much I wouldn't think if they're playing good test CR you think they wouldn't be around too much so you know you got a plan for that as well you love having them in the franchise setup wman and edmus did so well for us at the back end of the tournament the pick is in so let's get down to Hoy oh thought he might pass he let me bit short of a Gallop brick I thought he was going to pass where you going now we're going with Cory Anderson Cory Anderson hard hitting allrounder yeah he'll gives a couple of overs he can bat anywhere in the batting order as well he's obviously coming off um Major League cricket in the US where he was he was pretty impressive against some pretty good attacks over there he's probably been a bit of a forgotten man around the world the last couple of years but we we think he he'll slot in really nicely with us I've worked with him at the Mumbai Indians he's a terrific BL and I think he'll add a lot to the group sure boundary square of the Wicket down at blunston as well yeah he's a big strong man I don't think he's too many of the grounds in Australia that will worry him powerwise so and as I said with with batting anywhere from sort of three to six or seven and and an over or two if required I think he'll do a good job for us thanks Rick cheers mate Cory Anderson goes to the kanes yeah it's a bit of a Bolter but uh I think it's a very good pick he he's been a bit of a forgotten man um Cory Anderson he he he's not playing for New Zealand anymore he's now playing as a local in America um but still playing some pretty good Cricket yeah he's playing some good Cricket so that's a good pick again I mean there's so many different options and ways you can go but they've got some power now you Tim David to that who we saw the other night with the Australian team Whack Him all over play so they've got some quality players most teams are getting stronger and stronger it's certainly shaping up as you're going to have to play well on the day we know that that's the game of cricket but uh well some of the teams that are putting some good quality sides together yeah I agree there all the teams look really strong on paper obviously the game's not played on paper and you got to put bring it together on the game but the Adela Strikers have also passed so uh we're going to see a few picks in the last round which would be interesting as well but um yeah all the teams are looking really strong aren't they they are and this is where it gets down to the newg of what you need uh and what you can afford too cuz you got the salary cap that CA put in place and that's fantastic it's about right so we've seen teams go right through and then some teams not and Melbourne stars are on the clock now and they'll be what do they pass they go again well surely they've got to get a spinner Melbourne Stars you would think so we've mentioned it a few times tonight obviously zamp has gone to the Melbourne Renegades whether it's pick or the last pick in round four but um you think that's what they desperately need in their in their lineup just just to sort of round off their squad well they had Joe Clark last year they go to the B he made 100 in the BBL last year quality player yeah he is a a high quality player uh Joe Clark I guess they've got Sam Harper across from the Renegades to do that keeping role and B at the top of the order so I don't know do they go down another path there I'm sure we'll find out soon enough yeah Glen Max well that again allall franchise look pretty pretty clear and we'll go down to Harry for a pass I think Harry well there's not really much I can say to people that pass but I'll have a crack anyway Blair so you get one left for the final round yeah we do and we've got the next pick so we've got a plan in place that we had hoped might come to life and we think it might which is great so you get the first pick in the last round yeah we do okay so that's the reason they've passed uh I just want to threatened their jobs and now they're okay and now they're on the right path tell me tell me about culture we we watch the scorches every year um seems a happy team and a successful team how do you set a culture for a for a club like this where players come and go oh it's important that everybody in the organization players and St understand what you're looking for and what does um uh make you successful and it's no different in a team to is in staff and everybody in our group is aware of what it takes and all buy into that so it's a it's a really lovely place to be around really happy place and that's demonstrated in the way our players play all right great well done thank you we'll head over this way as well we've got a moment uh Michael nesser um we saw him just hoop the white warm January nights we saw you move around early yeah it swings a bit uh especially when the humidity is up it can hoop so it kind of plays in my favor but again that Weck it is flat so it's one of the highest scoring grounds around so hope I can contribute with the bat as well we watch ground pass B here I'm going to get around the light cables cuz the Wicket keeping gun is in the he likes to stay in the background uh HS how are you enjoying the big bash draft as a concept second year how have you found it all very much um I've enjoyed it immensely both years uh so many crickets still want to play the big bash which is great International cricketers that have nominated to be here um so it's good and it's great to see all the discussions and debates over over weeks and weeks to as to what might happen what who we want what we need and what might happen what are these other teams going to want and what's your role at the heat uh nothing much I just come here in the back row uh no we we're in touch uh on the board and on the retention and recruitment Committee just just to have a nice conject between uh the staff of the Heat and the board of queens and Cricket how would you have gone what would have done for your game personally as a keeper and as a batsman the analytics that we see in modern cricket uh yeah don't know we really I can't really judge that whether I'd learn Scoops and you know flips and spoons over your head I'm not not really sure but they they have a wonderful ability to put a ball where the Fielder isn't and and they practice that and it's quite impressive to watch and the stroke play is amazing the bowlers are under amazing pressure and the Spinners have been better than everyone thought so it's very exciting and very new um you were the pie knew this with that sort of little flick over between midwicket and the man on the boundary okay that was Pioneer was it um yeah that's that that's good mate I I'll probably have to Branch out onto the offside with some of my strike play good on your heels great to see you uh bord man you know very very well oh yes how I do it wasn't it was a little flick for two that's how much power he was had oh he was an absolute Beauty Ian hilly what a what a great of the game but uh three rounds are done let's recap all three rounds round one well Rashid Khan was the first pick but he was retained by the Adelaide Striker so Brook became the first pick B and yeah take us through the rest of the picks in round one all quality cricketers all quality people so Chris Jordan obviously uh Quinton de Alex H Tom Karan and Colin Monroe scorches pass on their first pick at Platinum so that was round one that was that was pretty good though wasn't it round round two was where it gets a bit funny H yeah it was uh I thought it was a fantastic round one but round two Harris Ralph he started things off there and I think he's a brilliant pick and and it's where things got a little bit interesting Jamie Overton I think's a really a pick from the strikers Sam Hayne he's improved his game a lot we add a lot to the Hobart hurricanes Maj back at the Renegades Zaman KH a bit of surprise but a fantastic death bowler and the Sixers get back James Vince your boy Sam Billings you must be happy to get him back yeah he'll be happy I mean Jamie over was on our radar as well so it's one of those catch 22s you lose a play you go on next one or whatever it may be but I know Pete very happy with Monroe and Billings and Zack Crawley of course getting to the scorches who is a quality player and as we move into round three there's quite a few passes uh but Lori Evans picked up by the scorches again that's a great pick for them they'll be delighted to have him back Paul Walter little surprise for you that was a good pick from the brisban hit he had him in the 100 well not he played against him tall and Cory Anderson went to the Hobart but you have to pass in one of the four rounds obviously so per already gone through those and and he obviously got their three plays so they'll have to pass in the next round so there's going to be interesting to see where players are going to go to Wi franchise back to round four now the BBL draft coming to the end of what's been a really fascinating Night round four now two teams will passed in there or have passed in their their last pick Hobart hurricanes and your mob the uh the Brisbane heat but all the other teams uh we were looking to uh just finish off their squad with another quality player and that's going to be the hard one they spent hours they just going have to work out which of these batter bow rounder spinner um but that's the fascinating thing with Melbourne Stars what what do they go for probably still want a batting option don't they yeah well that's right the order reverses again now so Melbourne Stars will be back having the first pick and uh well let's get underway melbour Stars uh round four on the clock yeah I'm not sure what they're going to go for I still I'd be surprised if they didn't go a spin option and uh this is this is probably the round where you can sometimes go a bit of a smokey unearth remember the Sydney Sixers went for um Navid isra hulak the naid the the youngan leg spinner um which no one was expecting and uh maybe we'll see a name or two like that come out in this round four the parkon boys from England they're in it so k k Parkson Matt Parkinson those sort of types might might come up it's just hard because you know you've got to dig so deep into that list and then work out now what you've got what you've picked up today so far and obviously they picked up number one with Harry Brook and the Harris Ralph you I think you're right spin option or do they go that middle order option where is Glenn Maxwell going to bat in this BBL is he going to open the bat in or about four he he he'll tell us at some stage I'm sure but but this is where remember Moses was talking about being flexible and and maybe the teams have also got to think okay is there a quality player that's been overlooked in the first three rounds that maybe we can jump on that uh that you know we expected to go in in either round one two or three uh or do you just stick to your plan let's find out the Melbourne Stars the picks in Howe what have you got well I've been working the phone which fascinates me um Flair final pick for the draft for Melman Stars uh our final pick is assama Mia okay tell us about Asama uh he's a tall leggy uh almost two 2 m tall so we'll give her something different um we know leg spin's very good at the MCG uh gives it a good whack as well so s for Manchester and the molten Sultans as well now were these Father's Day messages or were you texting back to the coach or what were you doing I was actually texting the desk because my computer's just shut down so it was good timing um but obviously we needed a leggy so we we actually thought he might have gone further um up the um one of the rounds so we were very pleased to have him at at the bronze and he's available for the whole tournament so tremendous well done thank you yeah he's just been picked for Pakistan I think that's a wonderful pick and I agree I I actually had him pegged to go earlier in the draft in in one of the the first three rounds he's a he's a high quality leg spinner and can certainly give it a bit of a tap at the end so I think it's a great pick the Melbourne stars have done well out of this draft Yeah they have we got 70 wickets in the PSL so quality Bower tall giv us a whack as just said they have done well they've done really well so it would be great to see these new names come out in the BBL as well and how they play and how they cope with the the bigger grounds for example as we see the strikers are on the clock and the Pickers in so let's go to Hoy just making my way down there trying to build the tension with the texting going back and forth a problem with the internet bu but anyway we're back at the strikers now where are we going di uh we're going to bring back Adam hos from England okay so obviously a player that's played with you before what do you like about Adam yeah I think he learned a lot from last year it was his first time in the big bash and he certainly uh played some match winning Innings um contributed a number of Victories for us last year we think he's learned a lot and he'll be even better player for us uh going into the next BBL what do you think he's learned uh he's learned I think how to adapt to Australian conditions Australian grounds a little bit bigger than probably what he's used to in the UK and I think he's adjusted adapted his game to be able to um access more areas on the ground all right well done thank you yeah I like that thinking from theide Strikers and Jason gillespy uh I'm sure he would have learned a lot from his first opportunity and and you know he will come back a better player and and the strikker seen like they've really identified some power hitting through those middle middle order batting positions is something they've really wanted to shore up yeah they have and look they know the ground really well Adelaide they've got a quality side quality three overseas players Adam hose is one of those guys that can hit to different areas played well with the northern super superchargers and we have a pass Howie pass James yeah we have yeah we' got something in mind um that we're still working through so uh yeah we'll wrap that up uh out of the draft but this is what's best for us at the moment so how does that work obviously the drafted players but we saw players coming we saw faf coming we saw Andre Russell coming last year so there's work to be done after the draft so for those at home that are watching how's that process take place yeah I mean Andre is a perfect example of that we didn't take on draft night and we're able to work with him to get him in here for a particular set of games and he obviously had a huge impact so uh yeah look this is a plan that it's worked well for us before and we can do it again so we'll um yeah we'll be back on the phones later tonight and um and uh yeah finish off our list you still got the big man from Jamaica's phone number uh yes we'll uh we'll just see if we can coax him over here maybe and uh see if he'd like to come back out all right that'd be great Che JS well that is a little bit of a surprise two passes so they've taken two players and passed on two of the rounds Renegades and so what what are they trying to do here sign someone outside the draft well that's interesting as I understand we have to get clarification here from GRE Australia but you can only get two overseas now can I get three once you've lost your draft you you've lost your point you can only get a local player so maybe that's what they're looking at I think so who knows what that will be so another pass has come over here from the Thunder coach uh look we're very happy with uh the local players we've got but it also gives you know the option to uh work out what we might need a little bit uh you know closer to the to the tournament so is that based on players availability potential injuries coming your way other people going in other squads for their country is that sort of the stuff that you need to factor in yeah exactly I mean the two guys we've got um neither of them will be there for the finals um so you know gives us the option to work out what we might need are there injuries um um you and where we might be able to you strengthen up so um we'll get more overseas and replace them but I'm pretty sure you can only replace the ones you've picked so we need some clarification there I could be totally wrong and if I am I am it is what it is us but you know I'm pretty sure that once you've picked your overseas they're the only ones you're going to replace so that will be interesting see how that plays out we've got two sides in that now and we got three Gods pick is in minimum of two but you can sign them later the Internationals both is what I'm being told on the floor by uh those at Cricket Australia so a bit of a clarification there what are we doing shy uh we're going for rean Ahmed we're going to add to our spinning stocks two Orthodox Spinners um left arm Orthodox and right arm and we're going to add him as a leg spinner to our mix bit of a hype about the young man we heard his name mentioned over the winter here in Australia yes absolutely and we been delighted by seeing his performances in England in the 100 in domestic cricket and as an emerging International we think he's going to fit our group beautifully perfect thank you thank you yeah nice pick there from the Sydney Sixers rahan Ahmed the Englishman bows attacking leg spin so uh you know get getting wickets through those middle overs is just so important for teams so uh yeah I think it's a good good pick yeah good signing he's he's got a sh War I think didn't he he did um so does give it a big rip and combat m so he's one of those players that's a good sign they've done their homework there the sixes as you'd expect yeah I I like that pick so now the scorches are on the clock for their last pick uh they'll be pretty happy with who they've been able to get so far but do they just top up with one more so we we still need some more clarification on that so you can sign two minimum and then potentially of signing more in the in the let's head down to Howe scores look like they've passed passed yeah a bit like the other teams uh just gives us a bit of flexibility to complete our list a bit closer to the tournament so I'm sure you can hear what Michael and Darren are talking about about um the the regulations how do you see that uh yeah that you need to take a minimum of two overseas players tonight uh but you can sign a primary third after the draft so uh a bit like yeah like a couple of the other teams that's what we'll look today so how you feeling about what you've done tonight yeah really pleased uh we knew we needed some batters and uh like I said to you before we we're really surprised that Crawley got a lot of expectations how you feeling yeah no really happy uh great great combinations up and down our water we got some terrific depth uh in our group some young emerging players as well Joel Davies through uh each team one by one Melbourne stars were the first they picked up Harry Brook pass and picked up Usama M their last Pi in round four Harry Brook he's the he the star is well they both they're all stars yeah I mean it's a really good draft for a lot of teams they're really happy with the the way they picked up the M Stars they've done their homework they went big with Harry Brook availability be interesting with him but he's certainly a class player we see he throughout the ashes play so well and times the ball so nicely he's one of those guys and he got 100 in the 100 in the IPL and the p so he makes runs in the short format and number one pick well amazingly he missed out on England's World Cup squad and since then he's just thought right I'm going to show you guys that you've made a mistake and he's been plundering runs um but the Melbourne stars are a big club and we expect big things from them they've had a couple of disappointing years so we expect them to bounce back uh this season okay let's move into the Adelaide Strikers the next and they seem delighted with their picks as well uh obviously they got Rashid Khan that was uh all going to happen and then uh couple of other Englishmen there Jamie Overton and Adam hes who come back after a second that's right Jamie Overton did really well obiously for 100 mp 100 in the last tournament which you coached at Rashid KH always going to go back there wasn't he Superstar of the game Adam hos who's who's a quality player and so many highlights throughout this guy running in and doing that early doors good you need a really good keeper to to go against r c oh he just brings so much the game you know he's he's obviously a wicket taker uh he's dangerous with the bat towards the back end but but he's an Entertainer as well the Adelaide crowd absolutely love him he's a 100% man he always gives his all uh and what what I've really admired about him as well is when when this young spinner bursts on you know you can see impact but then batters get used to playing them but he's been able to perform at the highest level and and uh keep performing season after season after season he he's uh yeah I reckon he'd be almost first picked in any team and the strikers would love to have him well I think in every uh format where it's auction or draft he's been one of the first picked hasn't he he not retained all the time so he's one of those guys that has just developed his own game and involved his own game along the way and fantastic play yeah let's have a look at the Hobart hurricanes now they they had the tactic last year of going the three pakist seem to have moved away from that ttic this year they've gone Chris Jordan with their first pick which is a a great pick Sam hay a little bit no surprise for me but a quality player nonetheless and will complement them well and then Cory Anderson another allrounder um can be pretty dangerous in those middle well this is what he can do in the field Chris Jordan he absolutely flies fantastic all round ability and I think someone said it perfectly it might have been you the fourth aspect leadership you around the game he's played so much around the world he knows what he's doing how he's going about it and he just one of those quality human beings you love so it'll be interesting to see how they go they kept J Vince which was excellent for them wasn't it so um hope a hurricane sorry I've mixed that up with the Sixers so that's all right no I think he's he's a great pick because he he he does the hard yards he bows the hard overs he's dangerous with the bat at the end he he fields in the most uh in the hot spots the most dangerous positions in the field so uh I think you know it's a fantastic pick for the hurricanes and Sam H uh from the Brisbane heat so we lost him which is a little bit disappointed but uh a quality player and had a really good spell on the Hun and then Cory Anderson was there other so they've done well and onto the Renegades and there you go Quinton the we wondered when he was going to go round one as you said they needed a keeper so they lost Sam half of the M stars maib came in as they retained him which they had last year but Quint C this is what he can do I reckon he's perfectly suited to playing at Stadium hit so well square of the Wicket that's six on any ground in the world but imagine that at Marvel that's going second second row back he he's so dynamic at the top of the order uh so aggressive will get the Renegades off to those flying starts leadership qualities around the group as well he's Captain South Africa um high quality gloven so uh you know it's it's a no-brainer really you know I think they've done really well to to to pick and they've made some really good signings this year getting Peter S back into the environment as well um the Renegades they they haven't been up there for a few years but they're just slowly turning things around and uh yeah let's
