NC State LB Devon Betty on start of WCU prep, fatherhood, growth this offseason and more

how um it's pretty good actually I'm loving it um as y'all know I started outside um honestly where I played my best ball at um back in 21 playing W linebacker I love I'm loving it and I'm tring the guys in the middle and on the other outside so good deal for me what was it like being the veteran in that room now oh I would say it happened fast um but you know um as a veteran as a older older guy just it's my job the league my job to keep the guys right make sure they come in every day and do the right things and just make sure everybody going 100% every day are y'all officially in Western Carolina game prep yet yes we are we today was day one of Western Carolina yes it was okay what are you seeing from them um just like treating them like every other team expecting them to play hard um play Fast um just because they you know a lower conference they still could come in here and whoop us if they if they come in here with right mindset so our job is to just come in every day and practice and treat them like any other team what's your uh what's your best advice for young dads prob sorry say it again what's your best advice for young dads um for young dads I would just say um time management is a biggest especially when you um in a sport like mine and still doing school time management just prioritize and schedule everything out and make everything easier what is fatherhood been like so far um fatherhood has been good it's definitely a learning process um as you know we talked about it um it's a learning process every day still um my baby girl is almost one now um I had her last year um Virginia week missed that whole week of practice but um fatherhood's been good I'm loving it I'm learning every day like I said and um it's it's my peace of mind after this um she's the only thing that can calm me down literally say how much does that add to the you know you wanting to to be able to represent her and come out on the field and and do the right thing too um it gives me a different type of motor just knowing I got somebody depending on me at home I know I got to come in here every day and bust my butt every day so just know I have another why um is big for me and it motivates me every to come here and work hard any motivation about being number eight um nah just um just a change of numbers and I'm just looking to um make a name for it this year the coaches have said you might be in the best shape of your career is there validity to that and what went into it um I would say just looking over the years seeing what I was missing over the years um I just realized like I could be better in that aspect of my body just being more in shape being more fit being more mobile I should say what have you seen from the guys around you um as as as far as the linebacker for oh we rolling um as y'all know we got Shawn Brown back on the box we got Ken for back in the middle um it's probably look we rolling this year there's no drop off I know everyone say oh payt Wilson um love it's going to be a huge drop off I promise you Sean Brown can get the job done and I can't wait till y'all see it this year you got that spend rally FR this offseason say one more time has that been a rallying PRI this offseason no drop off yeah that's that's been the thing um no drop off no drop off we hearing it everywhere on social media but um like I tell everybody we don't get into social media we kind of just Pro on field so y'all see it won't be no drop off this year you know this defense like the back of your handly how does that help you play faster um it helps me pay on faster a lot honestly um when you know what you're doing where when you know where you're supposed to be at and when you know where other guys are at next to you it just allowed you to go trigger right now and so being a veteran guy knowing the defense so well um it just allowed me to play faster than you know a lot of guys are still learning you've been practicing against the tal running backs for a few weeks Hollywood um they all are good I like our backs this year um Jordan um Hollywood Ken Drake all of them they all are good and I'm glad that um Jordan came joined the pack um good competition every day allows out us as backers and Defenders and um good a good F off of him cuz he's probably honestly probably going to be the best back we see any last questions fory you mentioned the uh situation obviously being a parent how has NC State helped you with that um a lot um NC state has helped me a lot being a parent um we have a lot of resources outside of football and football obviously a lot of our coaches are dads and stuff so they just um every now and then they all just chip in a little advice on fatherhood and all I can do is take it in and and learn from them obviously they've been doing it for me um so all I could do is learn every day from them thank you B
