welcome to my mayor's message for August 2024 I'm mayor Ron Jensen it's an exciting time in our city and I'm happy to announce that we will be hosting another highly anticipated grand opening at Sirius Eats restaurant at Epic Central will officially open for business on Friday August 2nd get ready to dive into some mouthwatering pizza succulent sliders and delicious shakes the grand opening event is from 11:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. and will feature live music face painting lawn games giveaways and more hope you can make it and August also means a new school year is just around the corner and as always we're helping you prepare to send those kiddos back to school with our back to school supply giveaway event at the Charlie Taylor recx Center on Saturday August 10th from 10:00 a.m. to noon we'll be giving away notebooks pencils pens erasers folders rulers and much more you can visit gptx.org for more information and then later that evening an unforgettable end of the summer bash will kick off at 5:00 p.m. at Epic Central where you can enjoy an exciting lineup of activities including live entertainment LA games and inflatable wipe out course and ax throwing oh my goodness you'll find more information about that at Epic central.com and the month of August means it's time again for the very popular homeownership fa Fair it's going to be Saturday August 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ruthie Jackson Center this is a fantastic opportunity to learn what you'll need to know to be eligible to buy a home as well as answering questions and offering all kinds of advice for those who already own including avoiding foreclosure how to refinance Insurance home repairs and so much more owning a home is very rewarding although at times it can be come complicated it can be frustrating especially with the home buying process but the end result in owning that home is so much rewarding I think the good outweighs the bad because you not only get to leave a a legacy you get to you know grow roots and plant roots in the community become a part of that community and it makes you feel at home thanks Joshua the homeownership fair is a free event with great food fun activities for kids and several valuable information sessions registration and check-in will start at 8:00 a.m. so remember to get there early and if you also want a chance to win prizes at the fair that day you can register online right now at gptx.org meanwhile if you use Carrier Parkway in the middle of town you've noticed there's a lot of construction underway to repave carrier at Fort wor Street northbound and southbound traffic is detoured to carrier Parkways southbound Lanes in that area while Fort Worth Street East of Carri is completely closed this closure is part of the overall Road renovation project that will be completed in December of this year please be cautious and watch for the detour signs and Lane changes and be prepared for slower traffic in that area and I also want to call attention to all our nature Enthusiast and parkg goers because you're going to be able to notice some construction at our beloved Parks as we are set to launch an exciting new project with National Fitness campaign six free Fitness courts are being installed across our community that will also double as stunning public art they are located Tyree Park me Familia Park epic Central Fish Creek linear Park Freedom Park and Charlie Taylor Park that construction is expected to be completed by mid October and I want to invite you to join me on Saturday morning August 24th at Larson Elementary School for a new strolling with the mayor event we have done cycling with the mayor bike rides there for the past several years but this year we have decided to slow our role and take a Scenic stroll through the lovely neighborhood of Nottingham it's a great opportunity for people of all ages to come together and enjoy the fresh air whether you're a seasoned Walker or just looking to keep Grand prair beautiful fall sweep clean at Veterans Park on Conover drive next to our main library during this last clean up at Lloyd Park keep GP beautiful volunteers showed their dedication by collecting an incredible 160 lbs of litter cleanups are important for our community because trash is just part of our human society unfortunately and so what we're focused on is removing that litter
