[Applause] for the first time in school history the Hawthorne girls basketball team will play in the district 6 1A state finals for the second year in a row they beat Madison County 55 to 42 but hawor did not get off to the hot start they planned on after turnovers and Miss shots caused by the Madison County defense the Hornets were only up by three points after the first half at first we were saying how we was going to come in and get like 30 up on these girls but then we started off slow the team is coached by Cornelius Ingram who played tight end at Hawthorne and the University of Florida after a 2006 National Championship with UF and a brief sent in the NFL Ingram came back to his Alma moer to coach the football and girls basketball teams just a testament of you know hard work and dedication from from our girls they B completely in uh through the off season then of course um during the season as well and you know just seeing them get better uh they in and day out is awesome to watch Junior guard de Maya Adams is Hawthorne's leading scorer averaging 16.2 points per game on the season with six missed three-point shots in the first half Ingram knew his star player needed to heat up she eded with a game high 20 points and once she saw a couple of those free throws go in right jump shot open up more she was able to get in the lane and make some unbelievable layups but she's that special kind of offensive player where she can get going at any moment I'm just happy I get the coach every single night first half I feel like I was kind of rushing my shots and the second half I just let it come to me like coach said with Ingram's second half adjustments Hawthorne outscored Madison County by 13 points they will play Wildwood High School in Lakeland on March 1st I love these girls yeah I hope we make it all the way and get this ring I like how Chan is going down and competing for a state championship Jesse Bratman wuft news
