hello and good morning you twoo how are you doing good how are you absolutely fantastic congratulations on putting # crime time together because I grew up in the world of Radio Mystery Theater that's I think is the reason why I even got into broadcasting so to experience this in audiobook form it really put me in a place of oh my God I'm using my imagination I'm living what they're acting out thank you yeah it gave us kind of a a throwback feeling to like the you know old radio uh Productions like you know War of the Worlds where exactly like you said you're using your imagination to visualize it come to life so I'm glad that came across and you've got kind of a really really up close and personal kind of reaction of who we really are as people just grab the camera let's film it we don't care if there's a crime going on get it on tape because I'm gonna get me some hits on the web exactly I mean it really I mean the way that you describe that scene that opening scene I don't want to spoil this for the listener but the the way that you describe it with the holes in the wall and how you were able to get that I mean it it just it it just proves to me and so many other people that when you have something like Tik Tok and you're getting the big hits you you got to go because if you disappear from the web that's it they're not coming back it's true ABC always be creating or capturing how how did you come into bringing this story to life I mean from what I understand that you guys live this yeah it was it was inspired by uh true events and and it was we had witnessed an armed burglary that happened um in the apartment above our town home and three armed men broke into our building we saw them through the peep hole in our door and we realized that they were armed and then after we called the police and we were waiting for a while police hadn't arrived we decided to go up to the apartment above us to check on our neighbor um because when I called the police they had asked is is anyone hurt and I was like I don't know um and so we went up there and checked and he wasn't there but we realized that he was a drug lord and that's why he was being targeted because there was still lots of drug paraphernalia drugs left because they hadn't completely robbed him now I know that that Nadia and Chase there's there's like a a second story on this in the way that that uh Chase found uh uh Nadia because they they went they checked the genealogy I mean did this happen to you guys but your husband and wife correct correct yeah we decided to make them half siblings rather than a husband and a wife um and that was just because of when it's audio you have to be able to have them talk and have conversations that's not an info dump and it wouldn't make sense to ground the reader if they were talking about things they already knew about each other as husband and wife we made them long lost half siblings yeah you work on that right in the very beginning when you're sitting there talking about why why is it that he doesn't have a job and you know I'm not going to charge him rent and all that kind of stuff yeah we wanted to make sure that was clear plus Chase's character who's the aspiring Tik Tok Tik Tok star and the younger half sibling he's very like aloof and naive and he's he means well but he just doesn't have a lot of experience and making them a couple didn't make sense to us because of his Personality yeah but see that's what I love about Chase is the fact that you make him real in the way that look at how many people are doing their podcasting or YouTube channels and they invest their entire life they don't need a job they've got they they know exactly what they want to do 500,000 hits yeah he's he's invested fully that he's going to be a creator that is going to be his career uh you know he even in the beginning uh kind of makes a nod to Nadia because you know she's an author and she's more established but that's also a creative outlet and you know no one told her you know she had lots of people tell her that she couldn't do it she should keep a real job quote unquote a nin to-5 um but he's determined to make his path uh through social media and through content creation and he sticks sticks to that throughout the entire piece yeah I love the way that you build up Nadia in the way that you know she is this author but she wants to live in her own private world and there's Chase he's going no you got to get out there maybe you can sell more books if you get out there and and and you know I I was cheering for Chase because he's absolutely right yeah and I think that's a big thing I as an author I jumped on social media um when my first book published and I know when I did that especially being on Tik Tok that was considered low brow but now everyone is on social media publishers are on there authors are on there because they realized like we do have to be able to reach readers and Chase makes a good point in the story that hey maybe it would be good for your career to put yourself out there and put a face with your work putting this story together did you do it in book form or is it all just laid out like your like like a normal script it it's written like a script so there's you know the character names and the lines there's even uh directions for the different sound effects in there um and we would kind of act it out uh with each other when we were writing uh to go back and forth and make sure the dialogue felt authentic and how people would actually speak um so yeah it's it's written in script format I'll tell you what I was I was very impressed with the way that when when they were upstairs and you could hear them rustling around and stuff I was like man this is getting irritating to me too it's like what's going on here I mean my my characters are irritated by the sound so am I as The Listener oh yeah we lived through that and it was even louder but they have to you know tone that down with the audio books so you can hearing the voices actually speaking yeah it was very irritating why an Audi book versus this age of podcasting where you could have made it 15 episodes um so this one is it's nine Parts long um I guess it's kind of like that um but we wanted to keep it shorter too so it's like around four hours um just for so it's like that one fit listen we thought it'd be great over the holiday season since it's familyfriendly so the whole family could listen to it when they're traveling to wherever they're going um but we wanted a shorter format and something that was very very engaging and intense and we thought that worked well as an audio book with all the sound effects and it being fully cast yeah and when listeners go in there to get the audiobook they have to understand and mean I'm glad you set it up like that because they at first I'm going what is going on here it's it's starting the story but it didn't start the story where's chapter one but you've got to have patience because I'm listening to it through Google and so it but you do set it up like that and I I guess it's different a different experience for people who are used to using audio stories yeah it's it's I think that was one of the big pieces in the beginning of was an education process of you know yes uh people are very used to books being in audio narrated format where there's a narrator just reading what's on the page right whereas this was sculpted from the beginning to be a full audio drama production so this is you know fully cast with actors in studio acting out the pieces as if they were you know the characters in the story themselves with full sound effects um so like you know kind of like you mentioned at the top of this uh it's more like a old school you know radio production of something like War of the Worlds or like you know it's kind of a TV show via audio where can people go to find out more about hashtag crime time and
