courtesy of Jameson the iconic whiskey brand and everything going on Julian Edelman three-time Super Bowl champion is back here on the rich eyes and show how are you Julian what's up bud you good I'm doing great how you guys doing I'm great I'm great what what I'm excited great great start to the season what are you excited about what excites you what are you excited about football was back I mean starting with the the opening of the of the season the Chiefs go out and they look like they're going to be better than what they've been in a while with with their additions of you know uh the speed kit and and Rasheed Rice playing good and and Chris Jones just being a problem then you get into the the Friday game so we have back-to-back games which was nice and you get a little excitement because it was in South Pao Brazil and you know you get to watch Philly against the Packers there's been so much hype around Jordan love and it was such a great game you know little rust for for hurts and over there but they find a way to win it it was just an exciting great game and then it led into this weekend of just you know I gotta give a shout out to my patriots man going into Cincinnati right getting a big win everyone's been talking about everyone else the Patriots are going to be a four- win team and then they could very well could be but to the way they came out and set the tone for their season not turning the ball over you know jamming Rashad Ste or Rashad Stevens down your Stevenson's down your throat jacobe brassett making big plays when the team needed it you know turnovers on special teams with Joe cardonia The Long Snapper making a big tackle Force fumble I mean it was just it seemed like a good Patriots game and you know I'm so happy for gerod Mayo because that's got to be such a hard that's a hard spot to be in when you're you're coming in after you know Bill bellich let's let's be real uh but it was kind of ironic because it looked like such a bill bich type game yeah I was going to ask you about that Julian I was going to ask you about that to see if were there any similarities I mean you know obviously everybody like what you look at how they played the game they didn't turn the ball over they played fundamentally sound they they were I think they were what 55% on third down Bengals were about 40 or something you know they beat him on third down they took the ball away twice they had great field position with their special teams you gotta give a shout out to the punt unit they they they were the hidden yardage uh and you know it just it was a tough team win and that's what you know we prided oursel on so it was really great for Dro and the Patriots to get out there and and start this new Legacy of what they are with the dub yeah I was going to ask you like if I told you back in the day when you were winning titles you know with the Pats that um the the first ever non- bellich game would be won by quarterback jacobe brassett with uh Gerard Mayo being the head coach and Matthew Slater on the staff right and SL you know what I mean like what what would you have said back then right said on to Cincinnati yeah right well I mean uh guess what after being on to Cincinnati and coming up with that wi now um you're on to next up uh Seattle you know and then at the Jets which is a winnable game which is a winnable game they got to go across the country to to New England uh you know I was really impressed with McDonald and and and Seattle's defense it looked very it seemed very similar to what the Pete Carroll regime was you know the they had a really good defense good on special teams made a couple plays on offense was a little started a little slow but you know it's kind of crazy with these two teams Patriots and Seattle you know they hire new coaches but they still have kind of the same philosophies Julian Edelman here on the Rich Eisen show so uh the other games that jump out at you I mean what you did you watch the end of the Sunday night game you seen the lines just jam it right down to Ram's throat Julian I did and that was that was a really good football game and that was it just made me such a bigger fan of Matthew Stafford that game even though they lost I mean they're running out of bodies left and right they didn't have their tackles puka gets hurt you know Coupe had a a great game 14 catches or something like that but to see Matthew staffer and how he there was that one third down where he sat in there and he had those two guys in his face and he anticipated he threw that Crosser like almost like a no look over to the left and he hit his receiver like he threw it to a spot like that's that's that's really impressive football when you know you're going to get hit and you could sit and deliver a strike I mean he's a pretty ball he he he throws the ball so pretty I've thrown with him a couple times and like the first time we ever met we shook hands we went like 44 for 44 and I've I've gone with other uh quarterbacks and there's always a little timing you know adjustment when you start to throw at the new quarterback first day Matt Stafford high five boom zinging and and that's that's what he is it just it was impressive he's tough you know I think that's going to be a you know a good football team the LA Rams and then Detroit on the other side talk about toughness uh mcdc uh you know the way they won the game driving the ball down down the field knowing what they had to do to win the game that that that that gives you that that shows and that shows everyone that hey we're a tough football team it didn't start the way they wanted um but come out with a win I mean that that's when you start to know you're a really good you're a really good football team is when you know you can win ball games when you're not playing your best that that's that's a sign of a team that you that's they got some solid foundation going in for the year you know this is week one there's ups and downs there's going to be whole lot of emotions everywhere uh and these teams won't be the same team that they're going to be you know halfway at the end of the season but uh you know for both of those specific teams the Lions and the Rams those are great starting points for those two organizations when did you throw at Stafford when did he throw to you when was that he threw so I I used to go over to Tom Tom house he had a a clinic out in um in Long Beach right and Tom used to go there and we dial up there but you know I would stay in LA and and all these other Pro quarterbacks would would come to the field to work with Tom and you know in the offseason you just want you want to catch balls Pro balls run routes and so you know I throw a bunch of other guys and so Stafford was one of them at one time and you're like okay one time Stafford was there he lit it I mean you could just the ball comes off his hand differently he could pick up any ball and throw it uh you know I I I'm pretty sure he could probably drink like8 to 12 Beers and go and throw a better like he's that kind of guy uh you know just a a cool dude and and I'm really happy for him and you know what is he's 36 37 years old 36 yep yeah he's not a young guy and and and I know we all want to be uh like oh Tom Brady played to 45 so that's not that's that's an anomaly so you know to see these guys like Matt that's a that's that's a you know he's not he's not a young guy to go out there take the punishment he did deliver the football not have the you know the the ghost rush in your face when you when you get to be an older quarterback and you're hit a bunch especially as much as Matt Stafford was hit in Detroit you know that could that could kill a quarterback and to get rid of the ball quicker but if he feels something the ghost you know yeah but uh that was a really impressive game and then jarro go too on the other side what what an awesome situation for him to go in and you know the team that he played for that he went to the Super Bowl at the LA Rams trades him to Detroit which was a dumpster fire at the time you know he he he leads him to the NFC Championship couple years later and then he beats his former team twice now you know uh one in the playoffs and now here in opening day I mean that's a great story of of you know Jared gof just being a mentally tough guy uh not sniveling and what a better guy to be the flag carrier for the Detroit Lions than someone like that what are you doing for Jameson brother what's going on uh we're promoting you know we're making we're trying to make some noise we went to the old the league office and and and put a bunch of people out there to try to get a game to to Dublin Ireland uh you know I me playing in Boston you know we had a lot of Irish fans uh you go to Chicago and you see the Irish influence they have there you know it just seems like it should be there should be a game in Ireland no yeah I do it are you kidding me that would be incredible it seems like I mean with the success that they had with the college game over there oh yeah I mean I think it' be a fun experience I don't think it's too far you know especi you know and it's we kind of have that that infrastructure going across the pond to other places uh you know so but you know I think with the fans that they have the time that they like to have you know a Rowdy group of people that love to have fun watch sports rally around uh you know their team or a league I mean I think it would just be such a fun experience not just for the people of Dublin but you know for the players to get to go over there those are cool experiences when I went over to London and played it was the first time I ever left the country yeah you know and for a player you know that plays football it's such a domestic sport where you know you've been everywhere in the States but you you sit you look at these other sports you you know the Soccers of the world the hockey of the world world you know and basketball these guys they go they they experience so many different cultures it's it's a cool experience not just for the fan but for the player but you I think Jameson's doing a great thing trying to get some noise to get that game out there and I'm I'm happy to be a part of it yeah Jameson sports.com fans 21 and older can show support and join the Jameson touchdown in Dublin huddle at Jamesport do.com last one for you Julian uh before I send you on in your uh I would sit here and ask you to break down the Cowboys and the Browns and how great the Cowboys looked and the Browns didn't look all that great I would love to go over the X's and O's if it weren't for the guy who was calling the game for Fox at the time Julian your two cents your unvarnished two cents on Tom Brady's first game as a professional National Football League national sports caster is what yeah I think I think he did good you know it's his first time on the camera and it brings me back to like first time I got on camera for Inside the NFL and that red light turns on I mean it's you do all this preparation and and it just changes and you got to go and do it and you know like like Tom in anything he does uh having that one rep is going to make him better for the next one and I know he's going to be out home going over all the games and going over his game and self scouting to see what he can do better but I think it was a great starting point for Tom yeah I mean uh it's just the latest example of people wondering why he's doing what he's doing the roast was the first one of those in 2024 you know certainly when he's placing himself in the verbal crosshairs of one Julian edelin right on that night what a night that was Julian right there was a lot of Jameson that night it's just a just a just a wee bit um so how how would you rate your performance that night compared to everyone else's uh you know that's what do you think I'm not a comic I don't know I can't I can't give a grade on on Comedy I thought you did great I thought you did very well I was there you know I mean bledo came out I saw you and your wife oh yeah sitting right up that's right we were there they cut they cut away to us over and over and over again because I guess you know uh I I don't know when certainly when it was all about craft or anything else they were cut away to us you know was a lot of fun um but you know bledo I think bledo kind of crushed it don't you think coming out there he kind of killed it the players he set the tempo set the tempo he was the first of uh the civilians to go uh so it was I think he did a great job civilians I like it that's a good use of civilians uh Julian but yeah I mean Tom Tom Tom uh you know did well and he's got another one coming up you know and it's not easy it is not an easy gig to to just with the L the one person I felt for the most was Kevin Burkhart because that's a terrible two shot for him he's going to lose every single time they show that Booth that's a major loss you know Tom Tom looks good that hair I'm with you uh jul with those bangs good to chat with you Julian you're the best we'll chat soon com soon see you yeah let's uh let's let's chat in person here we go the 405 is not tough I'll send you the rich eyes and show helicopter okay oh put me down for two you got it thanks Julian
