UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster talks about UCLA’s comeback win over Hawaii, his first as head coach

[Music] start um didn't really start the first half the way that we wanted to but I was just glad that the way they came out in the second half came out and executed it was about us more than exactly what they were doing to us so I just like that my guys came out fought hard and continued to play and we able to get the victory um I just Happ that was really it was really emotional in there so I was able to get a victory my first man I'm just glad that a lot of the players were you know putting on themselves to help get somebody give you a game ball yeah what was he said that he got choked up that you got choked up what was that like you know it was just the whole emotion of the game you know I kind of kept a lot of stuff boted in into this so I didn't want to just be out there all emotional but but I was really excited that we got our first Victory just guys played you know didn't really go exactly way we wanted the first half but the second half they kept fighting kept playing to execute with with Ethan in the first half um was that nerves what do you think was going on and then the second half seemed like you settled down just you know first game I was just glad like you said came good game kept everybody on offense ready to go you know they just Contin to fight reconcile pull it outus you know obviously some things didn't go the way you wanted or you have concerns about concern address some of in the second half a lot of stuff guys emo [Music] situation second the defense really he only gave up 100 yard in the second half and then Rico FL One play yeah Rico came out very great game especially the second half our defense you know play hard the whole time they kept coming off the sideline off [Music] can you describe the of the team at the M half what was sad that you know we just have to play our game guys were listening cuz you know we were shooting ourselves in fo it kind of us what we were doing you know Hawaii has a great team they played hard and did a great job this game you know but we still wanted to go out there and play our grand football and I don't think we really show that in the first up half we came out you we able to score some points get some stops and P out talk about the defense what did you like specifically about the last Kawaii drive you guys did defensively KJ Wallace was flying around the day great job think five sacks five sacks a lot of tackle for loss I would say was double digit so you know def a great job they involving I'm just glad you know we a lot of guys that team to fight fight I can't say enough but this team resilient first time handling like the game management stuff on ask about a couple of those the fourth down fall on the first drive uh what was decision making there and then the field goal where you came out looked like you were maybe going to go for just I just wanted to try you know keep the momentum and keep going but other than that I thought that we could have hit that field go that's and the early fourth down on the first drive how about the uh play where they lined up for the p and then they had nothing but open field and got the first down was that just ow assignments no we had nine up nine out of the field we had double numbers two players were trying to get the jerse get the Jersey on time and didn't get out there how do you feel they did kind of hitting the pillars this game the first pill we probably don't have to work on that a lot just I think the second half was a little bit better there wasn't any un Sports myties I mean we had one hands to the face but you know that's just kind of pun maybe he or something like I get to watch that but there's no U just bonad plays you know not penalties that you're just seeing guys after playing with no discipline so I'm okay with that but we we got to get it you know I'm glad we have a bik so we have a lot of stuff to address and these guys are we do going stay tomorrow tojoy Hawai little bit um probably just eat together we have dinner tonight din tonight these guys are still kind [Music] of we're not out here I just kind of just kept it the wi trip more SE can you describe what a trip like this could do for a young team long trip Hawaii come back win like this this is exactly what we needed going into what we're about to go into you know we have a lot of road games coming up got be in hostile environment's hot you know it's going to be uncomfortable so I'm just glad that those guys you know they they fought through and weathered to storm you it it was a lot Hawaii has a good team that's not a bad team they play hard they kept fighting they never gave up so I'm just glad that my guys were able to continue to fight and execute the way that we did in second half know any early injury updates on any of the guys who went down Reuben especially Reuben went down he seemed fine I just talked to him so I think he would be okay um but other guys and Garrett t to be okay it was just a how did the mechanics of your first game is hadge communicating with the other coaches to stand andu like that how did that everything good withun than you
