College Football Teams That Will BOOM or BUST In 2024 | Oklahoma, LSU, Notre Dame

Intro who are the teams that we would not be surprised if they were to Boom in 2024 or if they were to fall flat on their face in 20124 the word that I guess you would use there is volatility who has the most volatility in 2024 across the college football landscape now it's important to note here everyone's boom and bust looks a little bit different okay like a boom for not or Dame is being that five seed in the college football playoff and probably having one to no losses and their bust would like being 9 and3 and probably missing the dance whereas a lot of teams would give their left arm in a kicker to be 9 and three so it is what it is but let's start with Notre Dame Notre Dame man what I just said is true a boom for them is being a five seed in the college football playoff and a bust would be like missing the college football playoff now I really like Marcus Freeman I really like this roster I think this is as dynamic in offense potential wise as they've had in South Ben since Marcus Freeman has been there and arguably before that okay they went to the portal got themselves some Playmakers in the perimeter got themselves some real speed on the perimeter last year the wide receiver room wasn't bad but it wasn't a ton to write home about Marcus Freeman fixed that viewa the portal and also VI the portal went out and got himself a Riley Leonard which is a game changer if Riley Leonard hits the way that you hope he hits in South Bend this offense will be massively potent this team will be either one lost or undefeated and they will be a force in the college football playoff his raw ability speaks for itself there's a reason why going into last year he was on a lot of you know top five in terms of NFL draft quarterbacks for uh for the draft crowd and I appreciate that great athlete you saw it last year many times at Duke when he was healthy but here's my deal with here's my deal with Notre Dame I like Riley Leonard I don't know how much I trust him yet notice I did not say I don't trust him I didn't say he can't get it done cuz he absolutely can but I need to see a little bit more consistency from him because in the big moments against really good opponents uh he hasn't necessarily been the definition of consistency like last year massive win against Clemson did a lot on the ground uh only completed 52% of his passes against Notre Dame he battled through man he ended up getting hurt in that game I mean kept Duke in that all the way to the Finish but completed 44% of his passes going back to 2022 completed 52% of his passes against Miami so like I'm I'm walking this through and I'm like I love Riley Leonard from a skill set perspective and from what he can do for you but I need to see a higher degree of execution for Notre Dame to ultimately end up booming and be a college football playoff team now I think the defense also will help him out quite a bit Notre Dame I wouldn't be shocked if they made the college football playoff I think actually right now there is minus odds for them to make the college football playoff but with that being said I need to see a little bit more more juice from them otherwise they're going to get someone snuck up on them like a USC like a Florida State this that and the other now Oklahoma I Oklahoma think is a boomer bus team right now the over under win total for them is seven and a half which when when you're looking at it on on fanuel or whether you're looking at whatever you know service you like to use to bet on uh your favorite teams over under just doesn't really look right a lot of cognitive dissonance I think what they call in the psychological world doesn't really make sense when you look at it your brain's not used to seeing it now Oklahoma can fly past that over can fly past s and a half wins they could be a nine 10- win football team 10 wins spoiler alert will get you in the college football playoff not predicting it I'm just saying it's all about for me how much they get from the offensive line I love Bill Bebo I need to see that offensive line with more or less five new characters on it how they mesh and how they protect their young quarterback so it starts up front but then it goes to your quarterback now your quarterback is a Five Star Plus kind of player in Jackson Arnold who got himself a little bit of time at the end of last season I don't put a ton of stock into that bull game it is what it is who was trying to figure out being a quarterback against a really good Arizona defense you mark it up to being the Bull game but if you're able to protect him whenever that light bulb comes on for him Oklahoma's going to be a force now you hope it's sooner rather than later but let's say that light bulb comes on against Tennessee when they come to Norman early on in the season and they end up cranking and Jackson Arnold from that point forward has the confidence to boost him they got a lot of Playmakers on that team they got a lot of weapons for him to throw the football to and so if the offensive line can protect him which is the sentiment we've got at really for the better part of this entire off season that's going to make Oklahoma a stumbling block for a lot of teams in the SEC so Boom for them I think looks somewhere in the range of nine wins and if they bust it's somewhere around six wins I think it's the SEC is difficult but that's LSU kind of the fact of the matter when you break in a new offensive line and a new starting quarterback LSU man the questions for them are very very black and white when it comes to their success in 2024 how much does the offense regress because you lose three first round picks one of them being the best player in college football last year in Jane Daniels and how much does the defense improve because the defense the good news for the folks in Baton Rouge cannot get too much worse now we're going to talk a little bit more about this a little bit later in the show we sat down with Garrett nus love that dude man I came away from SEC media days a massive Garrett nus Meer fan now the unfortunate possibility for LSU fans is let's just say maybe it takes a second for him being the guy in Baton Rouge now I probably would predict against that but let's just say it's a scenario that is uh in the bag of possibilities and then the defense stays bad that is the Doomsday scenario that's the Doomsday scenario because let's say last year if if you didn't have Jaden Daniels on your team in Baton Rouge what's LSU's record they went nine and three with him having the most prolific offense in the country if they didn't have him last year what are they six- win team maybe seven win team you catch my drift now I lean boom on LSU for a couple of reasons I already said I love Garrett nus I think this offense will keep the same flavor of being wide open push the ball downfield and none of us today are sitting here questioning if Garrett nus has the ability to push the football deep that was the question we asked last year with Jane Daniels at this time hey great athlete good thrower of the football but can he unhitch the wagon he did that and they scored a Buu amount of points or Buu points is probably the correct way to phrase that for all our folks in Cajun Country I just don't buy the idea they're going to stay bad bad on defense now what does that Improvement look like remains to be seen but I just don't I don't resonate with the idea that the LSU Tigers will field a 10 and something Total Defense for the second year in a row makes no sense to me I don't see that so a boom for LSU I think is somewhere in the range of nine to 10 wins which I think most people agree with schedule Isn't Easy by any stretch but Brian Kelly in year three gar us Myers maturity the weapons they still have on that offense with kyen Lacy and CJ Daniels coming over the receiver from Liberty had a, yards receiving last year LSU is in position to still be a force Florida in the SEC now while stay in the SEC man the question for Florida for me when it comes to you know boom or bus and their volatility also very straightforward how do you handle the grind that this season is going to be because it will be a grind now make no mistake about it and Miami is obviously going to be a great test week one they come to the swamp everyone's Juiced up everyone's healthy for that game the stretch for for Florida is I mean absolutely brutal November alone is absolutely brutal Texas Georgia finish him with Florida State like it it is going to be a grind and so obviously the physical aspect is there but my question is what if things start a little bit slow at Florida can you withstand psychologically staying in it staying together a lot of talk around Billy nippier and his job security can you stay in it and keep on pushing forward that's my big question for them I think booming for them would probably look somewhere in the range of 8 and four if we're being honest 8 and4 is probably a a situation where you are celebrating in the streets of Gainesville given that schedule busting would probably look somewhere in the range of five and seven like last season now I don't think they have a roster that will go five- seven but the schedule in itself probably uh lends itself to at least begging the question as to how that would look now UCF I'll stay in the in the Sunshine State here UCF I think is really kind of flying under the radar right now they're going to the big 12 or they're already in the Big 12 rather I should say um I really like the pieces offensively for them they upgrade at quarterback nothing against John rice plumbley his first year last year in the Big 12 but I think they wouldn't got a quarterback coming from the SEC and KJ Jefferson who has got a I mean if his ceiling exists it's massively High you pair him with Gus Malon you pair him with the backfield there's a lot to like from a pieces perspective with UCF a lot to like there is a world where KJ Jefferson takes over and leads UCF to Jerry world that is a possibility now there's also when you look at all the pieces you like there's also I think a fair amount of reason for question they are 101st in returning production in college football KJ Jefferson as special as he is he likes to throw that body around he likes to he likes to lower his shoulder on linebackers and likes to run over DBS and he is not afraid to take some hits do you want that from your starting quarterback who is the hope of your football team in 2024 I don't know so if he can stay healthy it's going to be interesting but the road itself is also very difficult they're at TCU they're at Florida they're at Iowa State they're at West Virginia got some tricky games where you play Colorado and who knows about Colorado I mean they're going to be I think a tougher R than most people believe right now uh Arizona if they're able to pick up where they left off last year who knows Utah BYU like there is there's still a lot on the dock here for UCF but I would not be surprised in the slightest again if UCF was a team that surpassed everyone's expectations KJ Jefferson went J sport mode put him on his back and they ended up being a force in the Big 12 and who knows maybe they back door their way into the college football playoff now let's uh let's talk Colorado Colorado here they hit the portal hard yet again as Deion Sanders has proven he is going to do as he tries to flip that roster around it's a lot like surgery like it's it's something that probably you know hurt the I don't want to say hurt I mean it hurts to do it hurts to go out and try and find all those players to make your team better but my big question much like surgery is like okay how does it heal we did the operation if we're Dr Prime all right we went in we tried to find better players we gutted the roster to keep with this metaphor how does it heal are we able to actually have something sustainable that we can put some weight on throughout the course of a season this team has some teeth this team has some teeth now here's the big question now and I think this is most important to address with Colorado what is the Boom for you if you're Colorado and that's all based on expectations and expectations in life just period equates to happiness like if you are hoping for Colorado to make a bowl game I think you are setting yourself up to probably be happy at the end of the season that's my opinion we'll do our our full-on prediction week next week but like that's how I feel about it I think Colorado is in position to compete for a bll game but if you're sitting here saying nine wins 10 wins college football playoff or bust baby nothing else is acceptable you're going to be disappointed at the end of the season that's not me being a hater that's me using Common Sense here and say Colorado was 4 and8 last year the year before they won one game I love sh Sanders he's a great football player one of the best quarterbacks in the country Travis Hunter may pound-for-pound you can have an argument he's the best player in the country with what he does playing both sides of the football but they won four games last year if you're expecting them to win 10 you're going to be disappointed I think a boom for them would be winning six games and then win the bowl game that'd be great that'd be phenomenal but that's how I feel about Deion Sanders and Colorado in 2024 how does that portal surgery go over for them in year 2 and Boulder hey y'all thanks so much for watching
