[Music] kilaa volcano on Hawaii's big island has erupted again after hours of seismic activity beneath the volcano's Peak lava began emerging from the top of the famous volcano located in Hawaii Volcano National Park on the big island around 12:30 local time prompting the USGS to raise the alert level to red a red warning indicates that a volcanic eruption is occurring which has the potential to cause dangerous activity on land and in the air because of its remote location the main hazards are airborne hazards related to gas emissions and windblown tefra rock fragments during the eruption the USGS said [Music] volcanic activity is currently limited to the summit area and no Lava is visible from accessible areas in the park the eruption occurred about a mile south of the kilaa Cera and north of the koay and helina poly pass systems within Hawaii volcano's National Park but in a closed and rugged area according to the USGS this open crack is more than a mile long the height and strength of the lava varied with some eruptions reaching Heights of up to 65 ft gas also comes out of the Gap the lava flow was thin and only flowed a few hundred met from the fiser many large ground cracks formed around the eruption officials have not observed that P's air is a volcanic glass formation resulting from the decomposition of lava and stretched Into Thin strands at the site officials continue to monitor the volcano for signs of increased or decreased [Music] activity the researchers also collected emission data from volcanic gases and steam released from eruptions and fissures on land more than 400 earthquakes occurred over the past 24 hours most of them between Sunday afternoon and midnight Monday just before the eruption occurred a mechanism similar to a toy rocket contributed to the severity of the lava flow that year and could influence similar eruptions in the [Music] future Katie mullikin a geologist with the USGS Hawaiian volcano Observatory said the eruption does not pose an immediate danger to the public because so far it has only occurred on a remote part of the peak and is not accessible by cars or Trails this warning comes after hours of increased activity beneath kilaa surface seismic activity usually occurs before an eruption and is an indicator of the movement of lava in the volcano the main danger of kila's eruption is the high levels of volcanic gas due to potential impacts downwind other significant hazards include instability ground cracking and rock slides that can be exacerbated by earthquakes near the summit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
