FSU head football coach Mike Norvell on Wednesday prep for NC State

all right just tell me when you're ready ready okay i thought today was a good day uh the guys came out so they had a good spirit you know just you know good competition in the in the speed work i mean just in one of our better wednesdays and so it's something we challenged our guys with you know at the beginning of the week to continue to work on that on that consistency you know it wasn't it it wasn't perfect i mean there's still some things that we have to get cleaned up i mean introducing some third down red zone you know just thoughts but you know i thought our guys did a nice job in in the way that they approach the work you know it's a little bit of a challenging week we've had some guys that have been been out of practice you know some bugs that are going going through just um you know it's one of those things been on a college campus but uh you know i think even when guys haven't been feeling it you know maybe uh maybe 100 percent you know they've they've come out and they've worked hard they've hydrated you know they've been doing doing the things necessary to uh to go out there and play at a high you know play at a high level here and how we prepare so you know really proud of proud of the the mindset of in the developing growth that i'm seeing from this team as they're working through mike ronardo green is someone who's dealt with injuries on and off since last year i guess how is he doing and if he's able to get back in the lineup what would that mean for you yeah you know we're you know he's coming along you know he's uh he's one of those guys you know like we talked about with emmett and leonard it's been it's been a challenge you know there's uh you know he's played early you know had a couple setbacks you know really wanted to make sure that we when we got him back that he was gonna um you know he's gonna be there to stay really and he's worked really hard these these last few weeks i think he's going to be available this week it was good to see him you know he's practiced probably a limited rep count um but you know still just you know getting him you know back out there being active you know it seems like he's having having a a good week and you know i like i like what i'm saying when you've seen uh devin leary just on film like why do you feel like he's been that efficient this year i mean he's a he's a great operator i mean you know he's got talent you know he does it does a great job he has a lot of confidence in in what they ask him to do offensively push the ball down the field he's got some really you know impressive receivers to be able to throw to as well and you know obviously the o-line does a great job of giving him time guys as he's you're working through those uh you know those progressions but i think he's a really impressive quarterback and he's played at a high level throughout the course this year um it's you know it makes their offense extremely challenging because of all the things that he can do and just the confidence of what he plays with and that poise so you know we've gotta we gotta try to make him uncomfortable and uh you know it's you know it's been a challenge for teams to be able to do that but uh you know he's an impressive quarterback yeah you know it's something that you know he's he's continuing to develop the developer strength i mean uh you know in that there's some days he comes out with it and but i anticipate him playing with because everyone it about developing an identity coach dave doran said that he sees that things have sort of taken place and settled with you guys but now that you have developed an identity then it becomes a sort of chess match as a team seeing what you guys are doing how do you guys continue to mix things up and throw wrinkles in there yeah i mean i think i think when coaches talk about identity it's it's really just that the the the mindset and the the approach to i mean every week's gonna be a little bit different you know there's you go through the last however many weeks we've had and you know each each game has its own flair to it but the identity is you you want to be a team that that you know that plays different discipline that plays tough you know that you know is understands how to respond to situations and you know obviously there's going to be some things schematically that tied to the players that you that you have and you know allowing them to be in the best position to showcase their skills but you know it's that's a fun part of being a being a coach is the you know some of the schematic things but it all has to start with the identity of who you are what you're about and you know those guys embracing that when they're out there on the field of that that style of play that's necessary that that might mean you know defensively that you're going to pressure more one week than you do the other or mix up different coverages or you know you know offensively you know whether it's a run game pass game i mean play actions i mean but the identity's got a it's got to hold true of what your team is all about is it any different for you guys when you have you know the brady whites and the rileys that you guys have had riley ferguson's is it different in what jordan's skill set is in terms of trying to kind of move him around in the middle of the season and develop different aspects of the game right not real i mean you like the first quarterback that uh that i had as a as a coordinator taylor kelly you know he was extremely multiple and and what he did and um you know all those other guys you know um you know maybe they there were there were different strengths that they had you know playing the quarterback position and we play to that as as much as possible but this this offense is i mean it's that's part of the things that make it you know you know fun to be a part of is just the the versatility of what you can have throughout you know your base concepts your base schemes to be able to to play to a strength and um you know it's you know so i've had both you know thursday practices uh it's one that is multiple in all looks of what we would see it's a it really is a slowed down pace for us you know tuesday wednesday we try to push you know push the tempo your thursday you try to make sure that you know you take the things that you like and you're going to carry into the game and you want that to be able to be as efficient as versus all the looks that you could see and just that guys have had an opportunity to get that to get those reps um you know friday we kick it back up and uh you know it's a it's a you know not as long of a duration but it's also you know it's a little bit more you know fast moving as we build up to game day so um yeah i love i love our thursdays because you get a chance to you know see any you know last questions or last qua thoughts you get to get that corrected and see it see it run full speed there on friday um you know with hopefully a good good sense of execution a little bit more comfortable returning pun so you guys feel a little bit better about what you're trying to get done yes sir thanks
