ranked on ranked to start the college football season? Georgia unable to three peat as national champions last season but are favored to take it all this season behind that guy Carson Beck Clemson just running it back all of their starters were on the team last year. Only FBS team with zero transfers added. Opening drive the third quarter. Georgia's already up six. Carson back with the lob to Arian Smith for the first down and more. 36 yards for a gain there. Later in the drive back to Colby Young for the seven yard touchdown. Georgia up 13. Nothing after the made extra and the Heisman campaign begins. Clemson shut out in the first half against Georgia for the second straight meeting, trying to get it going. Ensuing Clemson drive. Cade Klubnik buying some time, throws it up to Jake Briningstool and he brings it down with one hand pushed out at the 49 yard line. 19 yard gain. What a snag that is. Look at that backside two. So nice. We show it to you a few times. Their ensuing Georgia drive though, Beck finds Dominic Love. It makes a few jukes and is brought down at the one after a gain of 13. First and goal Nate Frazier takes the handoff and scores Georgia up 20 to 3 after the extra point, and he's filling in for RB one Trevor Etienne who suspended of course for this game. Clemson through three quarters, 139 yards Georgia in just the third quarter had 149 in terms of yardage early fourth back to London. Humphreys open lane down the sideline. Drops his shoulder. Takes the hit and goes for the touchdown 27 three. After the made extra the coaches in the box losing their minds ensuing Clemson drive. Klubnik throws it deep and this is picked off by Malachi Starks. What a catch there. Clemson's 30th straight drive without a touchdown against Georgia. The junior defensive back seals the deal for the Dawgs. They go on to win it 34 to 3. It was Savage Georgia the first team to win 40 straight regular season games since 1953 through 57. Oklahoma won 45 straight, Clemson's largest loss since 2013. They lost by 37 to Florida State back then third largest loss in the Dabo Swinney era. So Georgia 17 and two versus AP ranked opponents since the start of the 2021 season. That's the best in FBS. Clemson held without a touchdown for the first time since the 2021 season opener versus you guessed it, Georgia. Here is their head coach, Dabo Swinney. After this big loss. All right. We have some technical difficulties there. Dabo is talking yeah we were trying to listen. Let's say we couldn't quite get there. We couldn't quite get there. Yeah. We were like wait a minute. Is this is my IFB out. What's what's happening here. But we're having some technical issues. We're going to send you back there once we get that sorted out. But Cade Klubnik of course a rough day for him. Career as a starter and season openers versus Duke. Lost 28 to 7 today, 34 to 3. The passing yards dropping. That's not something you want to see. Did not have a touchdown today. And the pass efficiency numbers taking a hit. All right I'm told that we have Dabo. Good to go. So let's send you back to Dabo Swinney. That kid will show up Monday ready to go. And he's just going to keep getting better. But I thought he competed his butt off. And, you know, I thought he did some good things. Antonio. Obviously he had the one huge play that got called back. So, you know, there will be some there will be some good things that we can take away from it, that we can go build on for the season. But it doesn't take away the fact that you just got your kicked, in the third and fourth quarter, talk about finishing the kick off and put yourself on the field versus taking it in the second half. Yeah we just one of those things we talked about going into it, we felt really good about, you know, our opportunity to either go score or move that thing far enough to where, you know, they got to go 80 plus. And again, we had a couple of critical penalties. You know, that really cost us, I mean, the motion call was same thing. It was close. I mean, you know, I mean, it was close watching the watching the video on the sideline, but they called it so, you know, we kind of got a little bit of a hole right there. We didn't anticipate that. But we wanted to take the ball. You know we've had a great fall camp guys and just you know come out of the gate. And then also, you know, we they led the country last year or second in the country in time of possession and, you know, we wanted to get them out there right away and get them get them to play. So and then if we didn't score, try to pin them, but it didn't work out that way. But again, you know, I thought defensively we did a heck of a job in the first half. I mean, they were physical. They held up well and, but you know, again tale of two halves. Dabo there's been a lot made about your approach to the portal transfer portal. What do you say to people who point to that when they see something like this happening, people are going to say whatever they want to say. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what I say. People are going to say whatever they want to say, but, you know, we, we take we do what's best for Clemson year in and year out. And, you know, people can say, and when you lose like this, you know, they got every right to say whatever they want to say. So say whatever you want to say. Write whatever. Write whatever you want to write, you know, that's that comes with it. It's just part of it. I know you're in the immediate aftermath of all this, but the last two years offensively in these big games, Georgia, two of the last three years, are you able to kind of pinpoint why you struggled offensively for example? Yeah, we just we haven't we haven't done some of the basic things the way we need to do it. I mean we didn't make some some critical plays that were that we had a chance to make when we did make a big critical play to create momentum, we, we get a penalty. So just creating the rhythm and it's just disappointing. So, you know, that's that's where it is. But you played woods out on the edge Christian Dabo Swinney reacting to Clemson losing 34 to 3 to open their season. And we talk about the largest losses for Clemson under Dabo Swinney. This ranks third 31 point loss here. They've had 237 point losses. But long time ago 2011 and 2013 today 31 to Georgia. Welcome inside our HQ studios Jeremy Saint Louis alongside Damien Harris and Danny Kanell, with some reaction to this. Damien, we'll start with you here. How surprised were you by the fact that the score was the way it was, and Clemson got beat so handily by Georgia? I wasn't surprised at all. I was more surprised at how tentatively Georgia came out in the first half. They were behind the behind in the down and distance. They were facing a couple third and longs. The run game was inefficient and they just weren't moving the ball. And then in the second half the run game got going. Carson Beck started to spread the ball around the field. Their defense started creating turnovers. And ultimately that was the way that was what we expected from Georgia. Georgia showed in the second half the team that they really were, I believe, he said. It's going to be a beat down before the game. So he's not surprised. Again, I'm not surprised. So I'm surprised that Clemson's offense did not look any better whatsoever from last year. And I get this is a great defense you're playing against. But they looked inept. They couldn't run the ball very effectively. Cade Klubnik looked a little flustered throughout most of the game. There just weren't a lot of plays to be made. So that's a surprise to me. I thought it'd be a lower scoring game. So then when it gets sideways, then Georgia starts rolling and they close the door on you. That to me is the biggest surprise. The other thing that's pretty interesting, when we just heard from both coaches in their postgame pressers, they're both ticked off like Kirby Smart was acting like they lost 34 to 3. And I think he's taking a page out of the Nick Saban playbook of this team. Hasn't done anything yet like they have one goal in mind and it is not beating Clemson. It's winning the national championship. And that's pretty impressive. And that's how you create special teams and special seasons. When you don't let off the gas at all. Well, if his comments about Nate Frazier are any indication, after the postgame. Right. I mean, he was asked like to talk about this kid and the performance. He had, and he said, look, this kid still got a lot to learn. Nobody's talking about some of the other players that made big plays in this game. So let's just pump the brakes a little bit there. On Nate Frazier, especially with Trevor Etienne coming back. But in terms of what we saw from Clemson, you heard Dabo ask the question in the post conference. Everybody talks always talks about the fact that he just refuses to dip into the transfer window, that his belief is that we can grow a championship team here. Danny, when does it get to the point where he's going to have to do it? Like when you lose 34 to 3 to the number one team in the nation, and you expect your program to be able to compete with that, at what point does Dabo finally look in the mirror and say, okay, look, we do need to do this. I do not think it will be this game. I just don't like he's stubborn. You heard him after the game. He's like, hey, you guys can write whatever you're going to want. And I will say, I'll defend him in this because I just went back and looked. A couple teams last year. Ole Miss has attacked the portal more than anybody, Georgia beat them last year, 52 to 17 like that. Portal didn't save Ole Miss. So I think it will be a season where we see. But if he's nine wins again I think the criticism will come from within, from his fan base and maybe even his coaching staff who are like, wait a second, we are trying to fight a fight with one arm tied behind our back. Like that's literally what they're trying to do. Everyone else is taking advantage of a system which allows you to address your needs and attack them in the portal. And look at Ohio State. They didn't bring in 40 players. They brought in a handful of guys of what they needed. And I think that's what Clemson needs to adjust to. But I don't know if Dabo is going to do it. He's a stubborn man. He's stubborn for sure. Well, I mean, he says, you know, like he lets his record speak for itself, right? But at the same time, when you're competing for national championships, Damien, at what point, you know, at what does it take in order for you to say, okay, look, we we've got to do something here because we aren't able to compete. And for the AC, right. Here's another knock against the ACC. Clemson is trying to get out of there. They can't compete at the way that the roster is structured with the SEC. Look at what Georgia is doing. You know Dabo Swinney said something interesting to me. He said the people are going to say whatever they want. And when you lose like that, you deserve to be able to say whatever you want. So I'm going to say whatever I want here. Dabo is being stubborn. He's being hardheaded, and he is stuck in his own ways because, like Danny said, they're fighting with one arm tied behind their back. Go out and get players that you need again. Ohio State didn't go out and get everybody on their roster, but they got the pieces that they need. This is a this is a production business. If you're not producing, it doesn't matter what your record was before. We've seen that with even the great Bill Belichick, his record spoke. It clearly spoke to his greatness. But after a certain time the production was not still there. So I'm looking at Dabo Swinney and it's what I don't care about your record, what I care about is are you still producing? Are you still winning games? Are you still competing. And right now they're not doing it 142 yards of offense or, well, passing offense. That's bad. And then 46 yards of rushing offense. Georgia put up over 400 447 yards of offense for Georgia. So Danny, in terms of what you saw from this Georgia team, I mean, you said it was going to be a blowout right from the start. They outscored Clemson 28 to 3 in that second half. If you're taking something away from this for Georgia maybe on the negative side with what Kirby was saying, like the start was not what he wanted. Absolutely. Yeah, I would think that would be it. They weren't able to run the ball in the first half, probably as effectively. But this kind of goes back. They didn't have Trevor Etienne like they're going to get better when he comes back to add to some of the young talent. So they're only going to have more depth at that position. But they've got to clean up some things. There were a couple penalties early like they trust me. He will find things they need to correct. I think what Georgia showed is what everybody it just it proved everybody right that I think everyone that covers college football says Georgia is in a class with Ohio State, maybe Oregon, maybe Bama still. And that's about it. Like those those teams are elite and they're in their own group because they have so much talent on their rosters. But we know right now that Georgia's elite, we haven't seen those other teams yet. So we know where Georgia is kind of setting the bar at this point in terms of what we saw. Carson Beck, he's a Heisman favorite. I mean, are you are you excited about what you saw from him today, or was there still some things that kind of, you know, that might hinder him in terms of his Heisman campaign, I wasn't satisfied. I mean, he played well. He managed the game. And again, this is a game where they I, I said they were going to blow Clemson out. They blew Clemson out. I don't think it should have been as competitive as it was. I think he played well. He managed the game well. He kept Georgia in a position to win. But we're talking about the Heisman Trophy here. We're talking about guys like Chad Sanders who just put up 445 yards, Travis Hunter, who had 137 yards receiving, three touchdowns. And then played however many snaps he played on defense. So we're talking about Heisman Trophy caliber players like even though this was a it was an onslaught towards the end. But I still want to see more. Yeah but he's a quarterback man. Come on I want to see going to a QB I want to see I hear you, but I think so here's what here's what I think is key. It's kind of like golf because it's four rounds of golf. And Tiger Woods was always really good at this. You don't win golf tournaments in the first couple rounds, but you can lose them and so like that to me is what Carson Beck like. He is. Right? Exactly. Probably where he was coming into this. He's in one of the leaderboards, probably top 3 or 4. He didn't lose it because if he would add a three interception game, he would have been out of it. And then he would yeah, he probably would have lost the award. So he's exactly where he needs to be. I will say this I was impressed when they couldn't run the ball and he had to throw it to get some yardage and get some points. He was able to do that. So I thought you saw a veteran presence. But as far as the spectacular Heisman type performance, no, I don't think we saw that. I agree 23 of 33 278 two touchdowns for Carson Beck as he gets his Heisman campaign underway, but not satisfying, according to our gentleman here. But as Danny, to your point, it's a marathon, not a sprint. And Clemson certainly have some work to do. They've got App State coming up next, that is going to be an interesting game for them, perhaps especially after what we saw today losing 34 to 3 to Georgia, the
