What’s the key to Kyle McCord’s HOT START with Syracuse? | The College Football Show (📍 @ModeloUSA )

time now for the Playbook presented by Modello I think a lot of people mad Sims turned on their TV today and they saw Kyle mcord playing for the Syracuse Orange yes sir now not only is he playing for the orange but he looks like a completely different quarterback than he did under Ryan day so what's the biggest difference what do you see on tape from him today well all the people there in in the X verse right a all the nicknames this last off season Honda mcord well you know what Honda mcord went over there to the car shop and he got rid of that old Ohio State engine and put in that Syracuse engine here we go right now oh yeah and it was Revan all right we're going to get man coverage here first and goal for the Syracuse Orange we have man coverage here on the outside a 3x1 formation and we're going to get a really cool concept here right that is designed to get Trevor Peña the open receiver here against man so he's going to run a little wheel route we're going to do a pick right here and then a w r wrap route excuse me over the top of that and what we're trying to do here by this slot receiver number two is pick the inside Defender right here and what I love about this rep is that they execute it to Perfection they have a seven-man protection so they're saying hey we want to make sure that we're protecting our quarterback the pocket is clean we get a beautiful pick right here by the man cover number two awesome job and now he is free releasing and Kyle does a great job of throwing it immediately as soon as he wraps around that pick route throws it high powerful and allows his receiver to go and get it so fantastic execution of the the red zone right there timing is a big part of this play right I mean everyone's got to be on the same page there everyone's got to be on the same page and it's really a perfect play design for the perfect coverage right so they got exactly what they were looking for and yes here's the pick right here you see the two bodies here right as they kind of Glide off of each other and yet here Kyle is winding up for the throw and drives this football high and hard into the end zone and allows his that guy to get it because the defender's trailing that was one of two touchdown passes uh to Trevor there uh the other wide receiver that McCord has had a really good relationship with for the first two weeks is orande gadston who missed quite a bit of time last year but was an All-American earlier in his career those two had it going today yeah Gaston really has been one of the the main offensive Firepower players for their their offense and really you can see it right here dude's big he's tall he's fast and he catches the ball extremely well over the middle and right now for this play got a spread open formation 2 by two formation Kyle and the shotgun again we have a three down front here by Georgia Tech and they are going to add on a fourth rusher here so this guy is going to be blitzing off the edge I forgot the marker again I'm an amateur unbelievable but we're going to get this guy blitzing off the edge this safety is going to roll down and they're going to play cover three and four deep under coverage right on this concept and all we're going to get from Syracuse is we are going to get a four vertical concept right so just four go routes essentially right down the field what he does a great job doing gon is as soon as he kind of gets past that second level of the defense he breaks it in to make sure that he's presenting himself better to the quarterback and Kyle does a great job seeing the rotation of the coverage and then throwing it immediately right when he hits the top of his drop so I love this Rhythm here good play action fake one hitch turn and throw beautiful in Rhythm you could see the separation between that second level Defenders and then of course after a great throw in Rhythm Yak he's getting Yak yards for a big play for this offense yeah at this point I mean Syracuse is like we believe in this guy and he believes in himself maybe more importantly but Le let's go on here to the next play Maddie um and you talk about what gadston can bring to the table is is length obviously is a big reason but we just saw it on the last play his ability to just get free and open space yeah skill and and size is a skill excuse me and really what it is too Syracuse doing a really good job of just making th this offensive game plan for Kyle super simple and again here we go again with a similar concept we're just going to get four verticals four vertical again and we're saying to our quarterback make the proper decision verse this coverage and again what we're going to see from this Georgia Tech defense is we're going to see another version of three deep right three deep coverage so this corner has this deep third the safety's playing in the middle here and this corner is dropping into this deep third and they're going to play five underneath to stop those quick throws right to make sure that they're covering underneath again this is a great uh realization though for this Syracuse offense let's be aggressive let's attack The End Zone vertically same Rhythm on the drop again he pauses and waits just a minute to give his tight end time and again tight end does a great job crossing face presenting himself to the Target really easily right attacks the football and again look at the RPMs here great transition of the way from the back foot to the front foot here by Kyle really driving through the throw AG aggressively Red Zone rules Tight Windows got to throw it aggressively it's a touchdown to check down mentality and he throws it powerful again where his guy can get it does a great job going up and get it for the but who taught him that yeah that exactly QB mat Sims right thereau him taught him everything everything he knows how big of a game was this for for a guy like mcord who like we said was at Ohio State last year he led him to 11 wins but it's just felt like the confidence and the joy wasn't there for him no doubt and really that's the biggest thing right I mean all year I knew and I know Kyle personally right I'm friends with the family I'm friend with Kyle I've coached Kyle before too so yeah hey I'm a little biased but belief right belief in someone right is so powerful and you know what Fran Brown he believes in this young man and you could see this young man just hey he is growing and blossoming right in front of our eyes and that's what college football is all about it's the development of young men right to be the future of our sport to be the future of our community and that's what Fran Brown is doing he is taking advantage of this transfer portal and he's saying hey you know lost Goods right for Ohio State well hey this this is our treasure they're happy to have him and Kyle's happy to play for this G he said he was going to send a bottle of champagne over to Ryan day he might have to send two how work C down the good times staring down the clock throw some Hu
