Molly Ringwald Reveals She Was "Taken Advantage of" as a Young Actress in Hollywood | E! News

oh I was taking advantage of I didn't you can't be a young actress in Hollywood and not and not you know Molly Ringwald is opening up about the difficulties she faced as a young actress while reflecting on her experiences in Hollywood as a teen and young adult the actress is sharing insight into her complicated relationship with the industry Molly shares details of her experience on the May 27th episode of the WTF with Mark Marin podcast you know I never really felt like I was part of a community when I was in Hollywood um just because just because I was so young really you know and and basically kind of a shy introverted person I wasn't like I wasn't into kind of like going out to clubs I wasn't like I feel like I'm a little I'm more social now than I was then but I you know I was just I was just too young despite being shy and introverted the 16 Candles actress goes on to admit that she was put in some concerning situations oh I was taking advantage I didn't you can't be a young actress in Hollywood and not and not you know and not have predators around I mean yeah that's just you know but I I yeah there's there was I was definitely in unquestionable situations yeah but I I do have an incredible um survival Instinct and and a pretty big super ego and kind of managed to sort of figure out a way to protect myself that's good but um but yeah it it's it can be harrowing Molly explains how she is using her past experience to advocate for her and husband Pano gianopoulos three kids Mathilda and twins Adele and Roman and you know I have a a 20-year-old daughter now who is going into the same profession even though I did everything I could to convince her to do something else yeah um and you know it's it's it's hard like my parents didn't know anything about you know Show Business really Molly who starred in several genre defining films by John Hughes in the 1980s has previously shared insight into how her perspective on the films has evolved pointing out that while rewatching some of her most I onic films in 2018 she picked up on the more questionable plot line she had overlooked back in the80s she tells NPR in 2018 quote I think as everyone says and I do believe is true that times were different and what was acceptable then is definitely not acceptable now and nor should it have been then but that's sort of the way that it was she continues I feel very differently about the movies now and it's a difficult position for me to be in because there's a lot that I like about them of course I don't want to appear ungrateful to John Hughes but I do oppose a lot of what is in those movies [Music] [Music]
