multiple people were shot on Saturday along Interstate 75 in a rural area of Southeastern Kentucky authorities said the Sheriff's Office also announced that a person of interest has been identified in connection with the shooting saying he should be considered armed and dangerous and people should not approach him the man's name was given as Joseph a couch a 32-year-old white M and anyone with information about his location was urged to call called the County 911 Center the Laurel County Sheriff's Office said in a post on Facebook that it was an active shooter situation and numerous persons were shot near the highway hey London just came here with a update to everybody I want to reassure everybody the community is safe uh we don't have any major urgencies uh that you need to be aware of uh for your safety or your family safety we are asking people and we're encouraging stay home if you don't need to be out um you know be vigilant at your houses that way that you know your surroundings uh if you see the individual Joseph couch uh you can look at my Facebook page the sheriff's department sh uh Facebook page you can look at the city police department's page and you can see a picture of him there do not approach this subject and uh we're asking people too if you think you hear something outside of your home please please do not go outside shooting uh our officers could be in that area or First Responders uh call 911 um we do have a lot of calls coming in tonight uh and Dispatch Center is doing a fantastic job of getting to each and every call but we're asking folks please do not go outside your home shooting because we do we might have First Responders in that area it's important to know you are safe we have multiple agencies in this community in the city of London and in Laurel County and everybody is doing a fantastic job the Laurel County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation we have ATF the FBI Forestry Department uh we have the Clay County Sheriff's Department Manchester PD Williamsburg has sent officers up Rock Castle County Jackson County has sent people over you have so many agencies inside this County in this city here tonight uh we're just asking people to be vigilant but we want children to be able to rest easy tonight as well I know during times like this all of us the tensions are high we're scared uh and we don't want you to be that way um you are safe uh I will be out all night long until my men come home and to ensure to give updates to our community but I want you to know that you are well covered here tonight call 911 if you you think you've seen this individual or you hear something we're asking please do not go out your back door or your front door is just shooting a gun you may hit one of our First Responders um there is some lot of rumors going out tonight I ask that you just focus on what you're being told by officials do not listen that he is in Lily he is in here he's there he's this uh listen to the post that the uh law enforcement's putting out or myself or other agencies do not listen to the Facebook uh comments and social media posts by individuals because there's a lot of misinformation that is just scaring people we know the general area where this individual is I'm not going to release that at this time but I can assure you he is not in Lily Kentucky so uh everyone let's just bind together keep praying for this community praying for our First Responders and praying for all those that's involved in this and I'll continue to keep you updated as the night progresses thank you
