Benton vs. Bryant Football - Salt Bowl 2024 Audio Only Broadcast

e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e good evening everyone and welcome to War Memorial Stadium for the start of the 2024 season for the Bryant Hornets I'm Michael Westbrook joined by Rex Carlton and we're bringing you the 50th edition of the Rivalry between the Brian Hornets and the Benton Panthers here tonight it's an audio only live broadcast we are recording with cameras and we'll post that to our YouTube channel over the weekend this Labor Day weekend and it is a happy Labor Day weekend to you we're just about ready for kickoff as the captains are on the field for Brian it's Carter Sims and Landon sahika all of the pregame festivities for the most part have taken place again as you're listening to us the field is lined with blue from the North End Zone all the way to about Midfield on the home side you can hear the Bryant crowd cheering and on the other side of the field from The End Zone up to the 50 yd line as well and Rex a fancy car there at Midfield just delivered to Midfield the bues mascot I guess is what you would call him as we just welcomed with a message from Governor Sarah Huckaby Sanders the newest business to Seline County an official announcement there that bies would be in the uh Benton Bryant area coming soon that's been the big news the last couple of years and yeah it's a gas station all those things but I think it is fitting in a sense we had the partnership for many years from Big Red no longer in business so maybe bues will be the next big sponsor one day I don't know but forget about that for now Rex let's talk football we're about three or four minutes away from kickoff looks like it'll probably be a little bit longer than that and check out the student section for the Hornets right now all standing you know how it goes Rex these students are faithful to show up to the games and when I got here at 4:15 there was already a line of uh students ready to come in when they couldn't even get in till about 5:30 5:45 so it's a huge Bryant crowd as we look down below us just a massive sea of blue you can tell I'm excited for the season what about you Rex well the other day when we had that pep rally we were in the gym and everybody's in there sophomores juniors seniors the band cheer dance everybody's in there and I left there with a migraine it was that bad I mean it was that L these seniors want it these Juniors want it everybody wants it I know this football team has a chip on their shoulder after last year go back to the playoffs against bville so I expect the whole team coaches everybody just have a chip on their shoulder this year just want to go out there want to win want to make it back here in December and get another state championship on their resume I see the Benton Panthers set to run through their tunnel here in just a moment have not seen the Hornets just yet and now here they come in those blue helmets with the white be they're wearing the blue tops and the blue pants as well and they are making their way through the Bryant Hornet tunnel that they will run out of in just a moment and so we're just about ready to get both of the two teams out on the field here two minutes before the scheduled kickoff we'll be a few minutes after that it would appear and as we told you a see of blue along the home side here tonight and the Benton Panthers making their way out right now a huge crowd the Benton faithful are here as well as they make their way out in the white uniforms those maroon helmets with the panther logo on the top top the maroon numbers the white pants our crew tonight as the hornets make their way out as well we'll wait just a second on that led by the RC the American flag the Bryant B flag and also the hornet logo flag as the cheerleaders and dance team also lead the way and the football players make their way out onto the field Chris Reed helping us out tonight from the field shop and uh and uh our cameras tonight we've got Justin Reynolds Gerard Barber Christian Kane will be doing Replay for us again it's an audio broadcast but we're going to post it to our YouTube channel over the weekend so we'll have that for you as well Rex it's always a huge game here Bryant has consistently won this game in our lifetimes Benton has not won since 2005 there was a tie in 2014 and in the 50th edition of this game Bryant has won 17 in a row if you don't don't include that tie there in 2014 briyan is going to kick off Benton will have the football first Grayson King will be kicking for the Hornets trying to make sure I can hear Rex here as we check our audio before we get this one going the Deep men back for the Benton Panthers are standing inside their 5 yd line they've got one at the two yd line expecting a deep kick from Grayson king with a lot of wind to work with as he's kicking with the wind and we've got a whistle and a flag on the kickoff here Rex so we talked uh before we went on the air about penalties we know we're going to see a lot of that in this first game as both teams are trying to get into the Rhythm early on this season well this is a Briant team who lost a lot of St go back to the offive line we only have two retur stars that is Kyro Terry at Left tackt Right tack pretty much the same offense from last year I mean you miss a couple big guys that play wide receiver I mean Miss sing Anda RW but I me next man upstem always still have aun back system which has been what Bri had in theast and you also get the Lu thir they're going to kick off again I'm not sure if we're getting Rex's microphone so we'll work on that this one should be returnable but it's fumbled right at the goal line and picked up in the end zone that will be a Touchback he will not be allowed to return it is om Marcus King who fumbled it at the one and it went into the end zone so now my audio is back there we go I guess that's the deal here so yeah okay so now I'm on four we got it somehow I'm on four now all right so you can hear me folks benon will have it first and 10 from their own 20 yd line moving left to right snaps back back to the quarterback and he throws low incomplete a little extracurricular downfield they won't call anything there as Drew Davis's first pass is incomplete well this is a uh a bent offense without their fourar we just had a little microphone XLR cable switched on us I think so we are all good now Rex say hello to the fans they can hear you now that makes me feel a little bit better because I've been talking this whole time but it happens Davis has a wide openen receiver the catches made across the 25 out past the 30 as he slips a tackle it's Maddox Davis who has a first down for the Benton Panthers to the own 39 yd line as that one goes for 19 yards this is a bent offense without their four-star running back Bray Russell committed Arkansas and played here last night so they're just kind of trying to find themselves after not having a a big old running back back there 19 yd pickup first and 10 from their own 39 Davis steps up in the pocket to run across the line of scrimmage outside to the 50 and will go out of bounds on his own in Bryant Hornet territory at the 49 yd line a big pickup on the ground he goes for 12 yards and it's first and 10 yet again for Benton this is a Bryant defense that lost a couple of big hitters last year I mean one one cornerback Bryson Ado and two safeties so it's kind of a younger core now Man in Motion right to left Davis on the called quarterback keep hits a wall after a two- y gain and he'll fall forward for an extra yard to give him three second and seven for Benton as they move into Bryant territory on the opening drive just underway here 1120 with the clock rolling in the first no scores Benton is on the Move early faced with a second and seven as Davis will go up to the line of scrimmage he'll shift his running back from the left to the right side that's Luther Tucker man goes in motion but they give to Tucker on the ground through the middle will take a tackler with him inside the 40 a couple of other Bryant Hornets there to finally bring him down and that appears to be Tristan Knox with the tackle this is going to be a long game if Bon keeps moving like they're moving right now this Bryant defense got to get a hold of them up front it's a first and 10 for the Panthers at the Hornets 38 yd line receiver in motion left to right empty back field for Davis looks to his right here comes the pressure near Midfield escapes the tackler Davis has time directs throws incomplete knocks on the coverage again this time the intended target was Ellas Payne and it brings up second and 10 for the Panthers uh Tristan Knox will be one of the the leaders on this defense after last year you get Nick Miller and Tristan Knox who had a lot of reps outside of their injuries and they played a lot with those seniors so I know they learned a lot and they're going to be the the big Minds on this defense this year Davis has Maddox Davis just lined up with him and now they'll shift those two receivers to the right side it's now going to be four receivers to the right side with one to the left Davis is looking that way the entire play and he throws it low down at the shoelaces of Ellas pay incomplete and now the Benton Panthers offense has stalled just a bit they're faced with a third and 10 from the Bryant 38 yd line well this is fourth down territory so no matter what Brian needs to stop and try to keep it to a longer distance but Bon loves their screen passes they always loved them and this year they you've already seen it they've ran three or four three receivers to the right one to the left a look back to the sidelines for the call it's Davis the quarterback Tucker is running back to his left four down lineman for the Hornets we'll see if they come after Davis anticipating a pass on Third and 10 they do little bit of a hold not called Davis throws low a yard in front of his intended target on the far side of the field which is Will Carter and that makes it fourth and 10 and you get a stop here and you'll get the football back or get the football for the first time and the Bryan offense is starting to get ready got to make a stop though Rex I I agree 100% but it's early you could take a shot if you're bent you could play the gamble they'll go three receivers two to the right one to the left ball is square in between the hash marks here fourth and 10 from the 38 yard line and now Davis will head up to the line for a moment shift a receiver and a timeout because play clock was running down and head coach Brad Harris for Benton will take a timeout we'll stay right here and talk through this first break 1029 to play in the first quarter it's the 50th edition of this rivalry between Benton and Bryant they've not dubbed at the salt bowl that many years but whatever we'll call it the 50th salt Bowl close close enough pregame festivities before the game we had uh representatives from Goodwill Industries down on the field and Bryant was the winner of the big campaign this year for most pounds donated is the way they did that so I guess if you brought in a bunch of clothes didn't weigh as much as a big heavy dresser or something so either way it was almost 200,000 pounds of donated items between the two schools that's impressive Rex yeah normally I remember them doing the peanut butter drive that's right I was always big on that cuz I wanted to win I've always even though it might have been something small but I love what they do here with Goodwill and everything and Goodwill made a donation to each school and also some gift cards available to some of the families in our communities here we go after the timeout an empty back field for Davis on Fourth and 10 and he'll punt it Brian didn't really see it coming or they weren't worried about it that's going to trickle into the End Zone after bouncing at around the seven yd line and it's a Touchback so they don't go for it they don't roll the die early Benton gives it to Bryant and we'll see the offense and third-year quarterback Jordan Walker for the first time here in 2024 this is the same Jordan Walker we saw last year and the year before I mean he he's a dual threat quarterback he can he can get you on the Deep Ball but he can also tuck it and run it the big struggle this year on the offensive line and the big question I guess is what I should say is the offensive line in general mean you have three new starters in their your interior offensive lineman so I'm curious to see how they're going to go this year Walker will work with Myron Thrash as the starting running back to his right Walker will throw on the first pass of his 224 campaign it's caught and up near the 30 yd line the catch is made by Bryant Zachariah Curtis Jones he was wrapped up around the neck in the lower part of the helmet as he was slung out of bounds causing the crowd to oo and awe a bit but there was no penalty and they're going to move quick here after picking up 10 on the completed pass snap back to Walker fakes to thrash looks to the middle throws Carter Ratcliff at the 40 makes the catch takes a tackler with him up near Midfield and Carter's to the 49 yd line a huge pickup two plays two first downs for Bryant and they're moving fast first and 10 from their own 49 three receivers to the right one to the left snap back to Walker gives on the ground to thrash he's met in the back field and will'll turn the legs back to the line of scrimmage no gain second and 10 for Bryant so you have a was Baptist backfield Jordan Walker and uh myin thrash have both committed to OBU that was pretty awesome to see a couple of weeks ago of course I Engineer the broadcast for wasal Baptist we'll get started next Thursday night at home at Cliff Harris Stadium second and 10 Walker throwing on the run will go high and incomplete two penalty Flags down and we see a couple of Bryant players throwing their hands up but is that going to be a hold I'm pretty sure even though I don't I don't think it should be a hold penalty flags on the field here at second and 10 so if it's a hold Bryant's going backwards and we've yet to see the call just from our official still waiting might have been a false start they just threw the flag I mean yeah the Benton players are clapping yeah I guess we're conferring over in the sidelines and the call may be from our referee so there was two penalties against Bryant one was for what an illegal man downfield it looked like and the other for a hold they declin the first they'll take the hold does give them the down back and it's now second and 20 so a couple of downs to work with thrash goes in motion from left to right Walker has him open but he'll throw instead a little bit deep er downfield a catch made around the 47 then out of bounds close to the 50 by kelen Latin who makes that catch there and gives him a little bit of the yardage back he'll pick up nine it's third and 11 well with Bryant they like oh there's another flag on the field yikes did they pick that one up I I think so yeah they picked it up so so completed play for 11 yards we're down to 923 to play in the first this is Bryant's opening drive after Benton had to punt the football faced with a third and 11 Walker will pump now he throws to the middle that's too high the outstretched arm of Carter Ratliff could not come up with that one and it brings up fourth an 11 for the Hornets I think it's a smart decision by Bryant here to punt don't risk anything too early where you can put yourself in a bad situation or go down early but this Brian offense likes to go fast and the Run game the past two years have just been the biggest factor to it and this year the Run game looked a little shaky but it was the first drive was that Grayson King out to punt it's kind of hard to see that number right there yep King King standing at his 35 yd line will boot it away and it takes a bounce inside the 20 picked up by Benton inside the 15 football pops free it looks like Benton is able to recover it at the 15 yd line but wait a second everybody from Bryant is pointing and bodies are being dragged out of the pile Benton has it wooo that could have been the big momentum shift early as Maddox Davis fielded it low and it popped up into the air he was able to go up and get it and get down to the turf before he lost it again that could have been a huge for Brian they could have put b in a really bad spot but I expect B to do the same thing they did last drive just screens and run plays 20 yards through two plays for them I expect the same bitten so bitton's opening drive 19 yards after an incomplete pass then they went for 12 they were moving the ball a couple of incomplete passes and they ended up having to punt it first and 10 from their own 15 yd line they go left to right on their second offensive Drive of quarter number one Davis throws out into the flat left side a receiver it's caught Ellas Payne turns it up field 2530 and Out of Bounds at the 32 yd line he picks up 17 y yards they are passing the ball successfully early on I mean it goes back to those screen plays the defens line has to keep their head on the swivel make sure that they don't overcommit where it can put them in a bad situation in the secondary can't run back too far or else they got to Sprint downfield and then take a block eventually it was Jaden Welch who was able to kind of help Usher him out of bounds Davis rolls to the near side right this time plenty of time throws man open near Midfield and that catch is made by Will Carter Carter is able to get the football to the Benton 49 yd line another 17 backto back plays go for 17 yards and Benton's near Midfield Benton's also playing with the chip on their shoulder this year I mean they were Conference champions in the 6A Division if I'm not mistaken and they've not been close to Bryant the last several years last year Bryant wins 356 year before was 3817 and 42-3 before that hand off on the ground this time to Tucker along the left hash inside the 45 yd line down to the 44 he'll pick up five before he's brought down and it's was that trying to see who was in there to get the tackle that time for Bryant I believe it was Daryl Moore Daryl Moore was a sophomore Bryant then went to Little Rock Southwest and now he's back at BR it is it Daryl mors we got two number 42s but I think that is him that throw is incomplete talk about that hit Jaden Welch just had on him I mean even though he didn't he didn't catch the ball he just yeah put his shoulder down right into his chest thises Brian defense the last several years has had that bend don't break mentality that give up some yardage from time to time but they stiffen up when you get the football in their territory short third down here third and three likely four down territory for Benton we'll see what happens here first they pitch it on the end round and that's going to be shy of the first down there looked as if uh Thomas Cornelius the linebacker was the first to shoot through there to stop him but he does pick up two and it's fourth and one I think they go for it I don't think they do a pooch punt like they did last Drive I think they just get those linemen to bury them their heads down and drive forward we don't see a lot of the quarterback going under Center these days but we've seen a a little bit of it not going to do that Davis will work out of that shotgun couple of receivers to each side Tucker in the back field with him big Play It's fourth and one and the quarterback will keep it and he has the first down to the 40 yd line he picked up two needed only one and it's first and 10 for Benton well this is a bitten team that's not really known for taking shots down field a lot I mean I've already said it enough screen plays and run plays and quarterback runs are I think one of the best plays you can have on a team TJ Williams a sophomore running back in the game for Benton now 725 left first quarter clock rolling no score Brian and Benton in the salt Bowl Davis quarterback keep goes up the left side to the 35 yd line and he picks up five yards this linebacking core is kind of the strong suit of this defense and they can't be getting pushed around like that it's all a leverage game in football whoever's lower wins pretty much so these these linebackers got to get down or just fill their Gap as fast as they can Nick Miller was around the tackle that time changing his number this year as Rex alluded me to alerted me of 42 down to number four now pass is thrown and intercepted and speaking of guess who that's Nick Miller with the interception and then he's tackled at the 41 yd line and there's your first game changer of this one it comes with six 43 to play in the first a turnover it's a Nick Miller interception I think I was more impressed with him Trucking the offensive player than he was actually intercepting the football I mean he just ran him right over he knocked his helmet off they're showing the replay on the video board inside War Memorial Stadium and from our view we could hear a little bit of a roar there and a quick switch as Bryant takes over on offense now Daniel Anderson in at running back Anderson suffering an injury last year and coming back late in the season and then uh not much there on that one he did come back and play that last game or did he not he was an option but IED you're suited out I think but he is a fourstar Notre Dame commit which is kind of Bryant's generated some big names and big players this these past couple years they sure have a loss of two on that play and they're going to lose even more here as that play is botched as well and the lose three I looked down for half second Rex and missed that one was that Anderson on the carry again yes the big thing with Ben is they like to blitz so when you want to run they're most likely blitzing and with the younger core at wide receiver not a lot of experience last year it's kind of iffy if you want to air it out or anything they'll stack the receivers along the hashar mark on the right side on Third and 15 Walker's got to get it downfield with time he does air it out it's a jump ball incomplete to Ratliff the bent player there making sure that everybody knows he was on the coverage but Rex I got to tell you that Ben player is much shorter than rat Li and it that ball been anywhere close R would have caught it yeah I'm not sure the defender there would have been able to do much if I stopped somebody that was 65 at doing something me like I'd be proud of myself too so om Marcus King I don't know if we've got a 57 he's list at 57 Bryant's going to have to punt again and it's a little bit of a wobbly one but they'll come up and field it at the 35 and immediately tackled out the 37 Brian's saying they came up with the football but Ben was already down going back to this uh Bryant linebacker core we've already seen them rotate through a couple guys you have Gavin mman who's actually a fourstar he's new to the the rivals ranking you also have Daryl Moore who came from Southwest Nick Miller and JT Allen JT Allen's back it's amazing how many players Brian has that are right there in the mix for some sort of big college scholarship while we're just at the start of the Season here yeah well that drive did not go well for the Hornets though the interception by Nick Miller wasted a bit and we're going to see Benton for the third time in this first quarter that run play for two yards met by the entire defensive line we get some of these names in we will didn't bring my binoculars tonight Rex rookie mistake for the veteran I'll do better next time if this Bryan defense can get a a three and out here it'd be huge for the confidence of the because they're already over them it would they've been out there a little bit they'll go on the end around on the reverse there to Ellas Payne and he is tracked down and tackled by Simeon Mitchell Mitchell's able to get him after what about two yards three yards maybe say two yards okay three yards actually excuse me so it's third down for Benton third and seven they're at their own 40 yd Line 440 to go in the first Bryant zero Benton zero snap is back to Davis looks left now rolls to his right trying to find somebody a lot of time he throws and this one's taken away as well at the 30 yd line Benton has yet another interception to the 40 out to the 45 in the 50 yd line as Matthew Ferguson takes one away and Brian has two interceptions you know what's funny is Matthew Ferguson used to be a quarterback he used to be a backup quarterback wow and he he's so athletic that they moved him out there to the secondary and say do I did it say it did them solid right there I would say so decent little return too and Bryant will have the football technically here in Benton territory just on the other side of the 50 yd line at the 421 Mark of the first quarter Bryant needs to capitalize and we've got a flag before the play it's encroachment against Benton now move Bryant forward five yards here got to take advantage of this now yeah I was going to say I feel really needs to score here it'd be a confidence booster for this whole team it give the defense after two interceptions just go out there and start over basically first and five from the Benton 44 Bryant in possession as they go on the ground a hard run from Zachariah Curtis Jones and now on three offensive series we've seen all three running backs for the Bryant Hornets as Jones is going to pick up almost five they get give him four and a half and it's second and very very short well we lose James Martin but we pick up Zachariah Curtis Jones so and he played last year too it's impressive called the name of James Martin quite a bit but there were other guys like thrash Curtis Jones that played a lot and even Anderson Zachariah Curtis Jones will break a tackle get the first down and more to the 31 yd line a nine yd gain on that run Hornets are moving now 345 to play in the first it's the third time to have the football and they're looking to find the end zone for the first time in 2024 first and 10 from the bent 31 on the ground and that's going to go right up the middle near the 20 yd line Myron thrash is back in the game at running back thrash will get it to the 20 and it's a first down guys getting knocked around after the whistle Rex you know nothing better than the first game of the year and you already getting dirty first and 10 from the Benton 21 Walker keeps it on the ground to thrash he has a lane through the middle to the 15 hits a tackler and we'll take it two more yards down to the 13 yd line it's a pickup of eight thrash is running hard solid gain there and it's second and two he reminds me a lot of James Martin from last year I mean when he gets his head down he'll run over anybody on this field he's aggressive inside three to play in the first snap back to Walker thanks to thrash throws Carter Ratliff catch at the five gain tackled but still on his feet he's still going he never went down but the whistle blew and they stopped it at the four yd line well we have hold on we have one referee saying at the one we have another one marking it at the four and they're going to basically split the difference and say the three first and goal for the Hornets hand off on the ground not there on the first effort second effort gets them down to about the 2 yd line maybe the one thrash takes it to the two yd line ball is placed just inside the two and we've got a timeout with 232 to play in the first we'll take a quick break here Bryant zero Benton Zero thanks for being with I guess I didn't realize which one was plugged into which so I was I did welcome back to War Memorial Stadium 232 to play in the first Bryant Z Benton zero but the Hornets are knocking on the door of the end zone here they have second and goal from the two yd line and you got Carter Ratliff in the back field with Walker snap back to Walker give to thrash thrash hit goes to the one not in and it's third and goal now from the one Bryant took a timeout there and after the interception from Ferguson the Hornets have marched the football downfield they've got two chances to get this in the end Z can't imagine a field goal it's third and goal from the one Rex well they did just bring in Cooper Billingsley who's the backup tied end he kind of kind of resembles David pagin from last year just a big body just an extra blocker 15 on the play clock don't have to hurry too much just yet snap is back to Walker gives to Myron thrash skirts one defender in zone touchdown for the Brian Hornets and they're on the scoreboard for the first time in 2024 they take a 6 nothing lead lead on the bitt Panthers 150 to play in the first now that's the Brian Hornet team I remember from last year just run it down their throats until you score and I mean that's kind of what happened this drive we one throw for four or five yards and that was about it the rest was the running backs extra point is up and it is good off the leg of cook with Carter Sims holding and it's seven to nothing Brian 150 to play in the first back in a moment for the kickoff you're listening to Brian Hornet football e a seveny drive for the Bryant Hornets that takes about two and a half minutes off the clock after the interception from Matthew Ferguson set it all up it was Myron thrash on the ground carry after carry including a one-yard touchdown run credit to the offensive line for helping out there as well and after the extra point Bryant seven Benton nothing 150 to play in the first and here comes the kick from King it will be fielded at the three yd line by the Panthers om Marcus King King fumbles the football it is loose and we are waiting to see who has the football it is Bryant football the Hornets have come up with it fumbling is om Marcus King and it's going to be the Hornet offense out on the field in the Red Zone up seven to nothing and a chance to take a two-score lead if I was bran I'd take a shot here first down because it's Fourth down territory if not we could just kick it and get three points but take a shot then go back to the Bryant Basics just running it down their thr Daniel Anderson will be the running back for now the fourth offensive series of the first quarter for the Hornets see he was at the bottom of that pile for Bryant was it zachari Curtis Jones I think I think it might have been a flip to Anderson he has some Running Room he takes it to the 15 and then down to the 11 seven yd gain for Anderson a strong run on first down it brings up second and three I love how Bryant they never stick to just inside run plays they Bounce It Out they'll do pitch plays like you like we just did right there if not the screen is always available RPO another great opportunity for the Hornets two receivers left one to the right Walker wants to throw now he can run he's to the 10 down to the five wrapped up around the ankles at the four yd line so seven on the ground for Walker and it's first and goal from the four yd line I feel like we were just here Rex there's nothing wrong with that either one minute to play in the first seven to nothing Bryant first and goal from the four Walker to Anderson goes right Cuts left he takes the tackler with him down to the two yd line a touchdown saving tackle that time from Benton's J Alford senior whose name we've called a lot the last couple of years and they'll say to the three yd line did not get as much as I thought appears the markers are saying about the two or the three the board is saying the two either way it's second down heavy side to the left Walker gives on the ground to Anderson again Anderson is in the endone Zone touchdown for the briyan Hornets they've got a two-score lead in the first quarter when uh when we first started this game I thought things were going to be a little shaky but once we settled down I think got the nerves out of our system this is the Brian team I remember from the past couple years well it helps when you can get four offensive possessions in the first quarter extra point from Jackson cook is good and so that makes at 14 to nothing and just like that in a matter of about 2 minutes Bryant has two touchdowns we'll stay right here as we're about to hit the end of the quarter as well so a reminder for all of you listening that we will not be uh on the road next week the last couple of years including Park viw getting the Hornets last year by a point they went on to win a state championship another good kickoff that has been in backpedaling fielded in the end zone and taken straight up the gut to the 1520 then hit at the 25 all the way way to the 30 yd line before he's brought down that's a decent return on a player who was backpedaling into the end zone to field it Ellas pay has bent just shy the 30 yd line his kicks never look like they're going to travel that far and then they just keep carrying he gets good distance on all of them be a Touchback if they just wouldn't touch it yeah B not afraid to field the football though we've uh we've seen that after two defensive takeaways here two interceptions this Brian defense has a lot of confidence they're playing with a lot of confidence right now check this out they had two guys in the back field with their quarterback they moved both of them to receiver they sent somebody else back in the back field now A Man in Motion lot to keep up with there pitch out into the flat to Tucker he makes the catch and he'll Scamper up field and then out of bounds to the 37 on his own a 7 yard gain a little scream pass they just keep going to it I mean what can you say every offens has their thing like Bryant's run RPO team and Ben's a screen team second and three could be the final play of the first quarter we'll see if he stays in bounds it's caught and a lot of running room up the sidelines near the 50 looks like he went out a couple of yards shy and the receiver made the catch is hobbling after all of that could not see who caught that Rex he's over on the Sid lines over there I think it might have been pain again 8 seconds left in the first Davis pumps in some trouble redirects from left to right now all sorts of Running Room here's Flags everywhere one two three four flags on the field and as I like to say it's like the dead canaries all fell down at once oh my goodness we got a hold and this one's coming back when I played football there was a PA announcer when we went down to El he said there's a lot of dirty Lacher on there you go there's a lot right there when you get a play like that the quarterback was heading left decided to go right and tripped up that offensive line let's see that happened at around the 30 around 42 so they're going to basically be back to the line of scrimmage I think I think they might replay the play too okay then go into the second quarter yeah we're at the end of the quarter I always thought it was was just if it was a defensive penalty I guess if it's even if it's an offensive penalty you get another no they realized it if it's a defensive penalty you play another play well okay we do have one more you're right okay they don't know what's going on either I don't think I thought I was right you think I'm right if it's a defensive penalty you replay it at the end of a quarter but offensive penalty no that should be the end of the first quarter the officials I think realized that and sent both teams to their sideline so it's 14 to nothing Bryant against Benton after one unless there was a timeout guys or the strongest guys but they're weapons and they utilize them we knew last year it was going to be all about the running game Bryant was ready for that and this year yeah we're seeing these wide receivers catch a few more passes than what we've seen in the past couple of years from the Panthers receivers spread out to the left one to the right on the ground though and a helmet goes flying for the Hornets but they'll keep the play going at least for a moment there and uh that was Gavin mman who's lost his helmet and Daryl Moore also in on the tackle seen four or five helmets already fly off we have yep first game of the year yeah tighten up that strap a little bit more they give him four it's second and six Benton has the football at the Bryant 37 they pitch it and then pitch it back again on the end round and there's some Running Room to the 30 down to the 20 to the 15 and out of bounds ellias Payne at the 11 yd line what a play it goes for 26 yards they use a little bit of trickeration as they like to say on that reverse and pay showed his footwork as well getting inside the 15 down to the 11 Benton is threatening here 1048 to play in the second it's 14 to nothing Bryant look at the down lineman for Bryant that time they're coming after the football and they knock it down how about that it worked Bryant Davis just out of nowhere I think Bryant had six or seven guys down on that defensive line on that play I don't blame them when your linebackers have speed and they're as strong as they are they can get down in the box and just fill as many gaps or got four down linan again but you got two more creeping in and they're going to be right there and the football comes loose the Hornets have it bran has come up with the fumble first the hit and then falling on the football for the recovery is JT Allen Brian has their third takeaway of this contest and we've just started the second quarter these small areas are killing bitten I mean two interceptions what two fumbles actually right fourth takeaway for Bryant we to see who got the initial hit here Rex we're getting to look at the replay I think it's Eli Davis landed TOA and Bryant Davis Brian Davis excuse me how about that well talk about the uh the adjustments of this Bryant defense hopefully we'll have a chance to do so depend on how fast the offense goes but they made adjustments they decided to come after the ball carrier and it worked on backto back play plays first a ball batted down and then a fumble and so Bryant has it first and 10 from their own 15 yd line Walker throws high and that one is intercepted at the 30 yd line the Panthers have it right back and they're moving downfield to the 20 to the 10 to the five just shy of the end zone down at the one there and Bryant it's got to have some miracle of a defensive stand now it's first and goal from the one for Benton after after that 25 27 yd return or so after the interception 1027 to play in the second big momentum shift we've got whistles before the snap should be a fall start and the Benton uh student section is cheering I don't know if they heard the whistle I don't I guess I missed the flag I oh there's the flag way on the far side of the field they call encroachment against the Bryant defense which moves the ball a half yard closer don't need any more help from here it's not really what you want but I mean is it really going to make that big a difference yeah if anything you're trying to get any sort of Advantage down here at the goal line let's stock the line again Davis out of an interception by the Hornets a penalty and one play later a Benton touchdown well if you're Bryant you just forget about the interception go back out there start over start from scratch I think run the ball a couple times then do some short passes like we did last year I mean they love their check Downs Jordan Walker gets the ball there in in a second half a second he's he's quick with it Garrett Honeycut on to attempt the extra point snaps down and the kick is up it's good 14-7 is now our score Bryant with the lead but only by a touchdown as the momentum switches back to the Benton scores 10 19 to play in the second quarter looked as if Bryant had the potential to go up three touchdowns they were up 14 to nothing with the football after a turnover but a Jordan Walker interception and Benton capitalizes and we've got a one-score contest low lining kick no return opportunity for frost as that one goes into the end zone and then out of bound Bryant will start at their own 20 yd Line This Bryant offense in general not even not just Jordan Walker the whole offense just needs to forget about last Drive don't even worry about it just move on from it it's like I said right before we went in break to start over start that run game back up let's see who the running back's going to be looks like it's going to be Zachariah Curtis Jones see if they can chew up some clock we've seen a couple of targets tonight to Carter ratl we've not seen too many others get involved yet on the ground to Curtis Jones he'll go along the left hash mark he's hit he doesn't go down spins off the tackler to the 25 where he is finally dropped five yd gain second and five I love how these Brian running backs they know when they're down and they know when they're not down you go back to last year Min thrash at a 70 yard screen reception for a touchdown CU they thought they tackled him but he never touched dubbed to the boot scoot I believe Zach Moss by the way gave him that uh that phrase and he texted me tonight said he's listening to the broadcast so one of our former students did all the highlights last year here's a highlight Walker on a big run to the 3540 across the 50 Walker down the sidelines 40 to the 35 No Flags well there's one that came in at the 50 wait a minute as Walker goes out of bounds all the way at the 30 yd line but it looks like some of it might be coming back I did see number 63 tremble for Bryant he fell over well so maybe it was against Benton it could be and it could add on but normally in these situations it's a block in the back or something normally blocking the back hold all the Benton players kind of just standing hands on their hips the Bryant players pointing as if to indicate that it's against Benton I think it is too it may be some murmuring among the crowd here as we wait for this call 934 to play in the second big impact call here personal foul against Benton how about that 15 yards to the end of that run officially the Run being marked at the 34 yd line so that that's going to take Brian inside the Red Zone and I mean go back to the actual play great awareness by Jordan Walker he realized he didn't want to force anything and he just took off as part of his dual threat capability and he outran the whole bit defense so a huge run from Jordan Walker plus the 15 yd penalty 933 to play in the second Bryant 14 Benton seven first and 10 for the Hornets inside the red zone at the 19 flipped to Zachariah Curtis Jones Running Room to the 15 undercut around the 12 and flies out of Bounds at the 10 that's a niney gain and there comes the late flag Rex you saw it oh yeah uh number four om Marcus King did a little bit of unnecessary roughness out of bounds against a defenseless Bryant player that's what I thought it's a long way from our Vantage Point here we're set up uh two spots over from that main TV Booth our vantage point about the 35 40 yard line on the home side that play occurring around the 10 yard line of the South End Zone to our right The Far Side of the field second personal foul against Benton on this drive and it sets up first and goal it goes back to those those small things are K Benton and multiple absolutely those are interceptions hug two major penalties that just gave us 30 extra yards wow so zachari Curtis Jones at running back Walker having a conversation with one of his receivers Leon and now Curtis Jones to the right side of Walker first and goal from the five snap is back quarterback keeps he throws rat Li a catch at the three he walks Benton penalties and with nine minutes to play until halftime it's Bryant 21 Benton s it was Carter Ratliff on a 5-yard touchdown catch from Jordan Walker and now for the Hornets out to send this one away be Grayson King two return men for Benton back at the five and this time a short Kick Kicking into the wind it'll bounce once High into the hands of the Return Man at the 15 out to the 25 spins off a tackler 35 to the 40 on the far side and out of bounds Davis on the return Maddox Davis and while they have had a fumble on a return here tonight that was a big play for Benton that sets them up at their own 40 if I'm not mistaken I think the kicker got in there on the tackle that's good and bad yeah not good for your special teams it's good that a kicker can make a play Benton has it first defensive takeaway and we'll wait and see what the penalties are all about I think it it's still our Ball but I'm pretty sure it's going to come back about 15 yards how about Jonathan Frost playing here is sophomore year leaving coming back that ball was thrown through a lot of traffic he had to be able to see past white and blue jerseys and the football came right at him and he made the catch I'm more impressed that the ball never even got touched traveled 20 yards through I think six or seven people yeah through some serious traffic but it's nice having him back I mean his his senior year he came back to Brian he wants to state championship there's the holding call so we had two oh did they say a block in the back and a hold and you can only accept one of those penalties there so they put the ball at the 40 still great field position wait wait wait wait wait are they saying the penalties offset well if it was one against well no because then if it offset it would be down at the 20 okay yeah it should be our offense coming out there it is yeah their defense is out there what's the delay I guess we're we have all the officials still talking to each other hold on we're not set four or five Panthers were there to bring him down at the 39 it's a 5 yard gain from thrash and Rex they run so hard as you've talked about that looked like maybe two yards and he somehow gets five out of it I remember from when I would play football with him he was one of the strongest people on the team and I I think he still is I believe it he stays in the game as Bryant has rotated through the running backs tonight they actually give him about four and a half so thrash will try to pick up the first down here straight forward right at the sticks very close and I would say it's going to be just short look third and just inches here so really about four and a half and five on the last two car to leave him about a half yard shy of a first down third and very short scoreboard marking it at the 34 which would be a first down but they're not quite there two receivers left one to the right right back to thrash again but he's hitting the back field he'll stay up for a moment and he loses a yard so Benton realizes the plan there on three consecutive runs from the Hornets he loses a full yard maybe two and it brings up fourth and two that's not what you want there you don't want to go backwards you always want to progress in these situations but it is fourth down territory and Bryant's offense is staying out there I I almost would run the ball with Jordan here we'll see what they do fourth and two they might try a little bit of a hard count at first it's going to be an empty backfield for Walker so it could be a quarterback called run they are trying to draw Benton off sides for right now play Clocks down to n try to get him on the hard count didn't work down to five I think Bryant's going to call a timeout play clock's at two and Bryant does take a timeout with 640 to go football e 640 to play until halftime Bryant 21 Benton seven Rex got a look at our scoreboard tonight the the biggest kind of upset I've kind of seen here is Conway's only up 14 to7 over Jonesboro and Jonesboro dropped down to 6A last year we'll keep an eye on Buck James and the Conway Wampus cats fourth and two for Bryant needing a first down the snap will go back to to Walker and he keeps it he's hit he gets to the 35 which is not enough they've got him around the 34 well wait but it looks like it's short might require a measurement they put it down inside the 35 yd [Music] line and I believe we are going to have time for a measurement to just add to this long second quarter and long first half they'll move the players back for a measurement that ball is to my right not the best angle don't have a good look down the line at it but I think he might come up short appears that he's short he needed the full 34 and they have that football but looks to be in between the 34 and the 35 was Benton back out on offense Bryant cannot go up by three scores for the second time in this game looked like they would have been up 21 nothing early but a mistake cost him that turned it to 14-7 in a hurry and then Bryant with the last touchdown on the Carter Ratliff touchdown that's where we're at 21-7 Benton first and 10 from their own 34 empty backfield five wide receivers three to the right two to the left Davis throws quick has his man Will Carter at the 40 and he'll turn it up to the 45 tackled there doing our best to get these defensive players mentioned Bryant Davis on the tackle for the Hornets I was talking about big number 99 Malachi McDonald he got downfield 10 yards and got the tackle too yeah so it is a first down first and 10 from the 45 for Benton they're taking a little different approach than what Brian has done on offense they're slowing this game down trying to eat up some clock not allow Bryant's offense back out on the field anytime soon Davis a long way off from the line of scrimmage rolling to his right will throw it out of bounds was under a lot of pressure a lot of times you'll see him roll to the right he rolled backwards he was line of scrimmage is the 45 he threw that ball from the 30 he went back 15 yards he was also getting chased from his backside yeah and never kind of set the set the stone back there but Benton does I do like what they're doing here and slowing it down they I feel like when they rushed these things up they ended up throwing interceptions fumbling the football so for them to slow it down here I think it could come out better for them it's turned out to be a pretty calm night here tonight good crowd little bit quiet right now second and 10 Davis fakes the handoff throws low and behind is Target pain incomplete third and 10 it kind of kind of feels like quarterbacks and receivers really haven't been on the same page outside of the screen game but these Bryant DBS have done pretty solid on the screen so far they they jamming them up left and right well the four turnovers and the uh additional passing this year from Benton has been part of the reason we've had a long first half 21-7 Davis has to throw it on Third and 10 rolls throws bobbled out of bounds incomplete so three consecutive incomplete passes leaves bent standing five yards shy of Midfield with a fourth and 10 and they'll send their punt team on quick stop from the Brian Hornets there gives you more hope in that defensive game and I mean look at the linebacker Nick Miller he great coverage on a wide receiver there the whole time he stay with him and stride no pass interference just got his hand in between player and the ball Brian has had some solid return men in the last few years especially since I've been here we'll see what Jonathan Frost does if he gets a chance he was standing at his 25 he'll back up couple of yards and B punter inside his 35 yd line to boot it away very short kick no opportunity for frost there it does take a good bounce for Benton from about the 33 or so all the way down inside the 20 at the 19 so gets a roll but it was not a good kick it's kind of weird looking back there in P return and not seeing Drake fower yeah that's true seen him so so frequently and this year it's different he graduated we' see Fowler with interceptions on defense and 35 40 50 yard punt returns as well yeah he'd believe we have a hold as we get a chance to see it on the video board inside the Stadium maybe not a whole looks like a Bryant player kind of ran over a Benton player well the bent play ilal block he was falling down yeah I think the angle of it is what caused the referee to throw that flag so quickly it looked as if the Bryant player just plowed him over but really the Benton player was falling down y a hit below the waist is that what he called he's an offensive lineman his job is to go hit people I don't agree with that call me let them play ball let them hit each other well that hurts you had the ball um moving in the right direction in Benton territory that moves it back to what second and 17 yeah after just you just had a second down and two also for the second year in a row of course everybody in the state knows but Razer backs played here last night so the end zone still painted in the Razer back red with Arkansas in one end zone Razer backs in the other the hog right in Benton 24-4 Michael Westbrook along with Rex Carlton it's the 50th edition of this rivalry between Benton and Bryant we're ready to bring you the second half and Rex we're going to start the second half with a little bit of rain and uh not a great sign that the Benton players are walking to the sidelines what's this all about making sure we didn't have any sort of delays they're telling Bryant to get out on the football field so Benton received the opening kickoff Bryant is going to receive the second half kickoff and it will be Bryant starting with the football in the second half they lead 24-4 rain coming down here Rex we'll see if that factors in here in this second half might look a little worse from up here than it is down on the field actually might I mean crowds stay the same might not even be as bad as we think it is yeah it's starting to lighten up quite a bit now compared to what it was a few minutes ago so back and forth first half we'll recap that for you after this kickoff the big play to start the game was a Nick Miller interception Bryant wasn't able to capitalize on a score there they had several defensive takeaways in the first half here's the kickoff and we are now back to play in the second half so that's going to be a Touchback in the end zone and again Nick Miller interception 643 Mark of the first quarter but Briant was not able to capitalize then it was uh Matthew Ferguson on defense for Bryant with an interception a couple of minutes later Myron thrash scored the game's first touchdown a one-yard touchdown run with 15 to go in the first quarter and um then after that we had a fumble by Benton Anderson was able to score on a touchdown that made it 14 to nothing and after that another touchdown and a field goal from Bryant couple of touchdowns from Benton in that first half ready to start the third quarter and we've got a move the football they had it set up in between the hash marks but they'll move it all the way to the left side of that left hash the short side of the field to the left as Jordan Walker works out of the gun on the first possession of this third quarter myON thrash takes the hand off on the ground picks up two yards it's got a little dark in the stadium here as some of the lights have gone out there's four light poles really five light poles Along The Far Side the big light in the middle that has all of the lights double the amount of lights on the other polls just went out and it got a lot darker in the stadium but they're going to play on for right now I don't know if we lost any over the top of us those are the lights that went out on the visitor side hand off is to thrash he breaks through a couple of wouldbe tacklers all the way out to the 30 yd line on the near Sidelines to the 31 the 32 and he picks up nine yards to move the chains that's what's nice about having so many running backs on the on the team is when one gets tired you can filter them in and out but also having these running backs that have strong lower bodies and their hard to tackle they're hard to bring down even Jordan Walker included first and 10 for Bryant from the 33 yd line a little bit of play action Walker throwing off his back foot out of bounds tend to Target over on the near side right side of the field was kamore Austin he had no shot at that one it's second and 10 Bryan they're going left to right in this third quarter just underway 2414 is our score Bryant with a 10-point lead pass game today seemed a little shaky a little bit nothing but little check downs and even at that we haven't I haven't seen us throw much Carter rattl a 5 yard touchdown catch no real big plays through the passing game so far a pitch to thrash he is tracked down line of scrimmage no gain quick tackle from Walter Hicks called that name a couple of times tonight the linebacker position for Benton and that uh makes it third and 10 so also a Brian offense that doesn't have my toian Singleton it was a deep ball Threat all last year he had stretched the defense out make the secondaries go deep kind of kind of odd to not have that factor this year third down and 10 two receivers to the left three to the right empty backfield pass situation for Walker that'll bring a little bit of a blitz he has a wide open Target the catch is made at the 45 cross the 50 and down into Benton territory Keenan Len has the first down for the Hornets as he moves the ball to the Benton 47 yd Line This bent defense loves to run Zone they're not they're not heavy on manto man coverage so having zone defense really helps the passing game a lot and I hope after that big reception that kind of picks up for Brant first and 10 10 for Bryant on the hog near Midfield it's a Benton 47 yd line going left to right up by 10 10 minutes to play third quarter they pitch on the end round tackle broken by Curtis Jones at the 45 and he'll spin forward to the 44 player hobbling off the field for Benton that's om Marcus King it's a five yard gain they'll call it a foury gain brings up second and six don't think we had enough rain to really make the turf too slick down there but did rain for about 12 minutes 15 minutes or so of halftime we stack the receivers on each side oh Walker that looked a little bit wobbly there for a moment I thought it was designed but I don't think so that snap was way offline and Walker was able to pick it low and then throw it catch was made but only for about a yard maybe not even that they lose a yard in fact well after the snap the center goes over to the Right Guard Jersey to start wiping his hands off must be slippery enough that it's hard to grip for the center and the quarterback so they had third down a moment ago with an empty Back Field they'll do the same thing here on Third and eight Walker protected well now steps up to run near the sidelines throws dangerous pass incomplete knock down a hand on it for Benton Landon Jackson on the coverage almost had an interception but it does fall incomplete and it's Fourth and eight for Bryant just across Midfield with a 10-point lead and they're going to send the punt team on Lon Jackson was a backup quarterback behind Gideon Moz and Jordan Walker oh wow I want to say two years ago okay and realize that um Walker was on the sidelines and now he's out there he's going to be the one to punt the football I don't think he knew it could it be a fake would they do that against Benton first game of the year I don't think so Walker will indeed punt it away goes opposite of the Return Man far side of the field good punt from Walker end over in it bounces at around the seven is where it was touched player for Bryant backpedaling actually touched it it might have gone a couple of more yards had he not been there but still a good punt from Walker it pins Benton deep and Bryant doesn't score on their opening drive of the third 849 to play in this third quarter Bryant 24 Benton 14 I think people forget Bon's still a solid football team with losing briland Russell they are I mean it's not like they're just completely garbage they're they're holding their own here against a team that's a whole division above them this is certainly one of the better performances that I've seen in the games I've seen over the years could still get away from him though in the second half we'll wait and see hand off to Tucker takes his it to the 10 before he's dropped bottom of the pile you had Nick Miller Thomas Cornelius gets credit for the tackle B's going back to speeding it up got tired of slowing it down four yard gain second and six Davis with the snap rolls to the near side to his left and he'll throw incomplete he was under some pressure in the backfield there good job by uh Bryant's Eli Hill able to get to him and a name that we called a lot last year of course we're way up here tonight first game of the year I forgot my binoculars so not getting all the defensive tackles in but uh we'll get those names in best we can throughout the year and good pressure there from Eli Hill it's kind of like Bryant has three leaders in each section of the SEC of the defense and Eli Hill is one of them big name still a 10-point vantage for Bryant first offensive possession of the third quarter for Benton rolling out of the pocket and throwing a spiral downfield up for grabs it's caught at the 45 a of the hole he was throwing from nearly his own End Zone and the ball ends up all the way at the Bryant 29 yd line I think if you went up with two hands that's his ball Bryant Defender but kind of got unlucky there yeah yikes this could be a three-point game soon Davis throws on a little wheel route there finds pay and turning inside who makes the catch to about the 26 only a three- yard game before he's tackled and he's hurt I think he's just cramping could be he's up now so hobbling off athletic trainers will meet him out but he's walking on his own as replacement comes in clock stops 739 left in the third Bryant 24 Benton 14 if you're a defense Lin excuse me if you're a defensive lineman or a linebacker and you see a skill guy running right across the middle you got to take your chance and hit him as hard as you can seen Brian do that a time or two four down lineman for Bryant Benton with an empty Back Field they're going to heave it to the end zone this one's up for grabs it the penalty yeah that's not what you want on a second and short uh don't really understand why we didn't just run the ball get the two yards you need now you're in more of a predicament with third and seven well that defensive play work cuz we saw it from up here nobody was going to stop him going to try to shoot the Gap the other way this time Walker throws diving for it we've got a catch on the sidelines and out of bounds right through all of the blue and that's Curtis Jones who makes the catch is that right or was it Brewster excuse me I think it was jacobe Boone oh Boone yes sorry sorry jacobe Boone with that catch got my numbers confused there and so Boone gives Bryant the first down we we get a few more wide receivers involved Walker on the quarterback keep will push his offensive line and as he goes forward to the 39 before he's tackled three- yard gain for Jordan Walker second and seven this offensive line has to clean it up a little bit the first half the Run game was kind of iffy but the pass protection was really good the whole first half and this second half it's been a little shaky to start well you mentioned that's going to be one of the keys this year how can the offensive line mesh together second and seven on the ground to thrash oh hard hit thrash took a hit there and he is going to be down at the 43 picks up a few and it's now third and three I say just run it stick to it yeah because you don't want to risk of them getting an interception and they end up on their Bryant's 20 here thrash takes a little while to get off the field he's off the field now and to Curtis Jones hand off he's got the first down keeps going into Benton territory far Sidelines Out of Bounds at the 43 yd line and he does have the first down to move the chains and that is huge you don't even have to worry about a fourth down right there and the third quarter is ticking away 433 to play in the third it's only the second time Bryant's offense has had the ball here in this second half they're clinging to a three-point lead back on the ground Curtis Jones and he will escape one tackler but then ends up out of bounds after that zachari Curtis Jones the junior running back getting a lot of carries in this one he'll go to the sidelines and that's Daniel Anderson's turn a five yard gain it's second and five let's say zachari Curtis Jones might be the most consistent running back today yeah see what they do here on second and five fresh legs and Anderson third r running back we've seen on the drive it is Anderson Anderson about a yard several Benton players there for the tackle Tai Matia giving credit for that one so Anderson gets one carry and thrashes back in I think they're just gonna keep running it I mean you're on side of the field after the completed pass five running plays in a row and this will make it six thrash breaks one tackle breaks two picks up a yard Benton stops him and now you have fourth and about three and a half let's see they're putting that at the 35 so that should be fourth and two all right what now I mean six running plays in a row yeah maybe you can get two more on a seventh running play the Benton crowd has gotten extremely out the student section all of a sudden has come to life here's the carry and oh no that is so close tripped up short of the first down depending on where this football is placed that's short they put it down that's short not close not close that's not what you wanted right there if you're Brant that is not what you wanted they it it's been a chance to take the lead for the first the 41 seven yards for Davis on first down if you're Bryant you need another one of those takeaways the interception fumble just something to get the ball back get the momentum back on your side CU I think Ben's had the momentum this whole time this whole half they have Ryan did not come out of the locker room ready it doesn't appear seven yard gain second and three four down lineman for Bryant wants has his man again and the receiver will hurdle over the defender to the 10 to the five to the end zone pain is a pain right now for Bryant my goodness 46 seconds to play in the third Elias Payne kickoff and it's fielded by Elias Payne to the 2530 31 yd line excuse me 26 decent returns but when you're kicking it to the end zone every time it's not exactly like Benton's got great field position so with exactly five minutes to play Rex Bryant has 52 on the board only difference of the last several years is that Benton has 35 they've been in this game they even had the lead once right now it's not going to matter extra point to get within 10 that's good and the game is over the Brian Hornets win the salt Bowl the 50th edition of this rivalry between Benton and Bryant our final score Bryant 52 Benton 42 in a wild night where 94 points were put up on the board Bryant has enough to get past Benton and they move to 1 and0 on the 2024 season both teams have a lot of things to clean up on going into next week Bryant mainly the defense has to settle down and kind of get more comfortable on the offensive side Bon just take away those turnovers they might they probably win this game is it wild to think that Bryant's defense had what they for six seven turnovers at least six still gave up 42 points now that last one okay but even with that you give up 35 points tonight before that final score when your defense really played so well all the interceptions and the fumble recoveries one of the fumble recoveries on a kickoff of course but um a lot to look at there to be positive about two especially the way the secondary started to play late get those interceptions and the offense got rolling with Jordan Walker in the fourth quarter so you definitely like to see that you get
