today and just did a great job and it seems like every time we need a big play in the third quarter fourth quarter Singleton ends up making it the touchdown in the beginning the third quarter last week yep they kind of opened it up and and put the game on ice and now here as well bouncing off some people his own offensive lineman and taking it all the way you give him any kind of crease with that 435 speed and he will take it to the end zone Singleton and Allen each went over 100 yds rushing today say you had heard anything about the game and you heard that you'd say wow must have been a margin but they needed all 119 from Singleton and all 101 from Allen 38th time in Penn State history with two running backs in the same game going over 100 yards second time Singleton and Allen have done it in combination but look you know let's go back to in the beginning in the pregame show I think somebody asked about 1 and0 or something like that and we were talking about that when you're football team or basketball team coaching staff so forth doesn't matter which one all they can take care of is what's in front of you that day right if you're a fan you have the absolute luxury and as a fan you have the luxury of of of looking ahead hey what about USC in October and so forth you can't if you're a team or a coaching staff you can't do that because guess what y team comes in here they've got a plan and guess what Pence say got punched in the mouth today and survived it exactly and and they they got a plan they got a good coach and they got talent on their football team and it's season Talent a lot of we talked about the 32 senior and they got a physical running backs back there in behind a huge offensive line and we had our hands fooled in the first half they were moving we didn't putt like I said they didn't punt the entire first half but we were able to hang in here our offense keeping us in the game because they were scoring as well when they were on the field so at the end of the day you win and move on and by the way baslac who did a terrific job today all right but he was only nine of his last 20 passing and two interceptions in that group they finally did get a real handle on the quick game and a couple things it was only nine of his last 20 with two interceptions so Penn State's defense which only gave up three points and only I think six five first downs five first downs in the uh in the second half and the offense got them right to right got them finally to the lead they had a chance there was an interception in The End Zone by Benjamin they had a chance to go up two scores there and then finally as after the wheatle interception the touchdown run by Singleton and everybody here is sort of like okay good right but they felt a lot better after Kobe King grabbed the onsite kick exactly and I tell you we talk about a lot of guys on defense Abdul Carter obviously RW and Kobe King but Zane Durant is just continuing to play at a very high level from the that defensive tackle position getting pressure stopping to run Eng disengaging with the offensive lineman going down the line of scrimmage you and when you put pressure on a quarterback when you're in the middle of the field right in the face of a quarterback that causes some problems as well he played well against West Virginia and he's continued that today against Bowling Green so the final 34-27 the nney Lions win it we'll continue with more of the PA propane Foundation postgame show in a moment on the Penn State Sports Network as the cost of electricity service providers for more information go to by the Pennsylvania loty total offense 438 375 Penn State pass yards 254 204 Bowling Green rush yards 234 to 121 Penn State seven penalties for 76 for Penn State today that that's got to be cleaned up Jack well without a doubt we had the same problem last week against West Virginia it reared its ugly head here again today that's a lot of yards a couple of times getting that neutral zone and almost giving Bowling Green a first down uh pen State Plus One giveaway takeaway they had the two interceptions today by Roos and by aaki Wheatley in the game Jack mentioned no sacks today three tackles for losses conversely four tackles for losses two sacks today for Bowling Green individually let's get baslac credit 25 of 39 254 two touchdowns two interceptions but only nine for his last 20 with the two interceptions as they start to get a handle on what he was doing there Fanon was terrific 11 catches career-high 137 yards and a touchdown eight of those catches in the first half so they actually got a handle on him too that's his second career 100 yard receiving game and let's give credit toe to the Auburn trans for Malcolm Johnson who had eight catches for 81 yards today and that's a career high for him for Penn State Drew Aller 13 of 20 two4 yards two more touchdowns Tyler w War at eight catches for 146 Jack his second career 100 yard receiving game and a career high well you can almost see that with the practic we went to how many times they're getting the football to waren in different situations going down the sideline a couple times and also in that dead area in between the linebackers and the defensive back got one along the side I thought he was going to score on the ball was a little bit behind with with Aller and kind of took him out of bounds but he was open a lot of times here today in fact he had eight targets and he called all late well I think you expect that from him seeing him in practice he does not drop the football he's very serious about you know getting that ball putting it away did a good job of blocking as well he was involved also on that scrum in the middle of the field when Singleton went all the way for the touchdown where we kind of blocked nobody at the line of scrimmage but Singleton made it for a touchdown anyways 62 yards after the catch today for Warren to add up to 146 Amari Evans two catches 34 yards and a touchdown Nicholas single one catch for 14 yards but that was a touchdown the running backs have worked so hard on that element of their game between Allen and Singleton and Jack you're seeing no longer is Singleton a body catcher those hands are out there oh exactly I'm sure you know he's over 100 yards again here today as he did last week but I'm sure he'll take a lot of pride in the fact of being in that passing game down in that red zone area and that was a really good throw by Allard put it around people before the safety had time down on the goal line to come and make a play on the football he put it inside to the singles in for the score Kil denkin have one catch for seven yards and Julian Fleming one catch for three on the ground today Nicholas Singleton 13 carries 119 yards at the touchdown and KRON Allen 14 carries 101 yards in the game today it's the 38th time in the history of Penn State football two running backs have gone over 100 yards in the same game the second time it's been the uh combination of single and Allen going back to that game at Ford Field last year on Black Friday uh when they took on Michigan State both perula Two Carries for 12 Drew Aller seven for seven in this game and when you add it all up Penn State wins at 3427 and now two and0 on the season a p say fans score big with PA Lottery online the hear from Brian doing that downstairs and uh we will work that out as time goes it's going to be an off week a by week for pen it's not an off off week it's a by week which means they're going to get back to practice at work and then they will take on Kent State a military appreciation day two weeks from today we should find out Monday what time that game starts I mean again in a degree of difficulty in in decision making I always consider the Manhattan Project at 10 I usually consider what time the kick e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e or M and we'll start open so like always I want to uh thank you guys for coming out and covering Penn State football I want to thank the fans we had a great crowd and especially late in the G game there I I think they really factored in uh caused them to burn some timeouts got some penalties so that was significant for us um you I think Sanders a high deck coming out and and making some Big Time Field goals that was big and it's going to pay dividends for us moving forward most importantly you got to give you got to give Bowling Green a ton of credit um we talked about it during the week in the last three years they beat Minnesota they beat Georgia Tech Michigan last year was 14- six at the half 32 seniors and um you got to give them credit they they played their tail off um the moment wasn't too big for them the opening drive showed that um and we were in in a dog fight so got to give him a ton of credit obviously Tai Warren had a big game for us both running backs had a big big games for us and then I thought in the second half uh we were able to calm down and get ahead of the sticks on defense that was the issue in the first half we were giving up too much on first down creating manageable third down situations for most of the first half uh and that was problematic so obviously we got some work to do but it's nice doing that work uh with a win uh there's a ton of teams across the country uh that will be trying to make corrections after a loss and we got to make a bunch of corrections after a win and obviously we got some work to do so again I want to thank the crowd and thank you guys for coming out and I open up the questions sorry Mark James you touched on it but how do you account for the difference in the performance of the defense from the first half to the second half is that scheme is it effort what were the things that kind of went into that I know I'm going to give the answer that you guys hate but it's hard for me to to really say that right now with without watching the tape no different than what I learned a long time ago as a head coach after a win like that um we talk about being one and0 and being positive and being appreciative uh of the wins um and wins are hard to get in college football um of not going in there and starting critiquing after a win and for really the same reasons I don't want to say something that's not totally accurate at uh without watching the tape yet but I think I think the biggest thing in the second half like I already mentioned on defense we were more efficient on first down um which created second and long and created third and long situations we were head of a sticks to whole first half we weren't um I think what happens early on and it's happened for the last couple years and we got to look at this um I think early on we're trying to make plays rather than play the defense getting out of our gaps trying to make plays uh doing things that we haven't done during the week and we got to get those things cleaned up for sure hey coach Franklin uh right here um obviously last year we saw a little bit of Tony roas and he was a game record and what we did see through two games we've seen a bunch of that now um can you kind of talk about his role to the team and what he's contributed so far through two games yeah I I think you guys have know we've been talking positively about him really since we recruited him and since he showed on campus uh you know the way his body has changed his production uh he's big fast smart physical uh could do a lot of different things and it's not just tackles in the Box he's a sideline to sideline guy as well as a guy that can um obviously make plays in coverage I think that's maybe some things that maybe people have saw on tape um he's had some opportunities to cover backs one-on-one on Wheel routes and things like that and has done a nice job and then today to be able to under cut that route and get an interception was Big James to your right next tomorrow hey Rich hi are you usually over here I'm usually sitting down but I I I like Mark Brennan so I wanted to stand next to him gotcha okay youve long talked about the value of Nick and KRON how valuable were those two today to this win yeah I I think you know there's a lot of buzz in I think last week according to Chris Peterson about KRON Allen and yards per carry and and production and all those types of things um you know both of these guys Nick averages 9.2 KRON a averages 7.2 both for over a 100 yards and to be able to have that type of balance uh in the passing game and in the Run game um I think is really important the thing that we have got to get better at is we got to be better on third down because we're not just we're not getting enough plays to be able to distribute the ball around to all of our guys we just don't we're not getting enough plays to do it and the way to the way to resolve that is be better on third down or you know obviously get the first downs on first and second down never even get the third down but we got to we got to get more plays uh that will help our offense out significantly but also help our defense out significantly Thanks James um curious going back to the tight end position I know I asked you going up into the week but with Andrew not being available we saw him apparently using crutches on the sideline is that a long-term injury issue that we need to be aware of and because of this it seems seems like Luke has been thrust into games back-to-back weeks um are you increasingly comfortable with him playing more as a freshman yeah Luke's a guy that we have a ton of confidence in not only physically but just how he's approached things since he stepped on campus as a true freshman um been been very impressed with him um I can't really speak um I can't really speak at this stage on rap just because I don't know to be honest with you this this was very very recent uh this happened so I just I don't have the information to give to you and as you guys know I won't talk about injuries with you guys until I've talked to the players and their families and made sure everybody's okay with the with the information but I also again I don't know um you know it's again it's it's it was very recent and Coach what can you tell us about why KJ Winston only played uh the first quarter and I think maybe one play in the second quarter and then the guys that came in and took the snaps he would usually get how do you think and those guys performed yeah again I can't get into uh KJ Winston and and and why why he wasn't in there as you guys know I don't I don't talk about those things but it obviously increased the amount of reps um you know for Jay Reid and increased the amount of Reps for um zachie uh and also kind of changed our ability to be able to get into the package where um J Reed is playing the lion position so um you know we needed to to be in base a little bit more uh it's hard to get in Prowler if they don't substitute on third down which is what a lot of people are doing they won't substitute on third down so then we can't get our Prowler on the field uh which is our Rush package um which which is a smart plan right it's a smart plan um so those are some things that we're going to have to work on specifically during the byee those will be important coach historically you're you usually wear glasses clay no it's a good look thank you thank you very very nice historically your quarterbacks have always had that go-to receiver that they just have this trust in you know was Sean and was Jan is has Tyler Warren become that right now for Drew after another really impressive performance yeah I I think I think there's a number of guys um you know I think Tyler Warren was the guy today that got a bunch of opportunities and and and made the most of them obviously his play count and opportunities went up because we didn't have rrap available so that was part of that as well um you know last week everybody was talking about Trey right so it's that's just kind of how things are going to go um but again we that goes back to my point earlier we just got to get more plays on offense we got to get off the field on defense and we got to sustain drives on offense so that we can get more guys involved in more touches last question James um just a preparation question um did you feel like on defense you guys were as quick as you were last week and did did having a buy next week affect how you approached this week at all no um the buy next week didn't affect how we um how we looked at this week or prepared for this week no that that didn't factor in um but in terms of you know what how we played against West Virginia on d uh against a team that we think's going to give people fits um obviously we were much more productive against West Virginia on the defensive side of the ball um and to your point flying around the field being disruptive making making plays and again um I I'm not one of these coaches where um I'm not going to give credit to Bowling Green that's that's that's Bowling Green Giving Them credit for their plan and and their players uh and then it's also us um you know making sure we're doing a good job with our plan and and our players you know going out and executing it's it's it's literally both both uh no different than last week I think our defense created some of those problems and issues and caused stress so um it's you know it's weird to have a bye after your second game but I think it's going to be important for us and we're going to need to maximize this time um and then and then obviously we'll get focused on our next opponent but I appreciate you guys coming out appreciate the questions and and most support I appreciate the fans coming out and supporting Penn State football thank you see you guys the offense do to achieve that balance today um I would just say communication um I think one of that was one of our key things on the offensive line is making sure we're communicating the multiple fronts that they bring out the pressures um they do a lot of stunts and a lot of movements so just being able to pick that up and communicate it kind of LED for us to open up the Play action pass game some shots downfield and um I think they had to respect our run and and end up working out for us take me through that play sealed off at the end for Nick to spring for what ends up being the game-winning touchdown in that fourth quarter what' you see on that play um yeah it was just a inside Zone and you know we kind of wed up they they sent a couple pressure and uh they were in a three down front and uh we just old line I think just swallowed him up wall walled him up and uh Nick was able to make a great cut off of that and then you know Nicki Nicki sings has that Elite Speed and just sprung it out there and then We're Off to the Races what's it mean when fat man gets going like that too oh man both of them and I think uh we feed off of them too when they're you know they're quiet guys but we they lead by example and they handle their business and we know when they're in the game they're going to make a play so I mean just gives us more confidence to keep just blocking for and open them springing holes and they know we have uh we have their back and they have our back you've been through a lot of games here over a lot of Seasons you know they're not all going to be easy what can finding a way to get it done like this early in the year mean for a football team important so important um I mean that's that's what builds teams uh you don't you don't just you don't just learn from uh big blowout wins and stuff like that I think versatility is key so being able to be in games like this where he it's a fight through four quarters um and we always say this about about football it's not boxing you don't just win in one knockout you got to keep playing so um in order to get like this sort of situational football um and early in the season we'll prepare us for later down the line as one of the leaders what do you learn about what you guys have in this locker room in a game like this um I would just say the confidence um when this happened nobody flinched nobody was looking around wide eyed like oh what's going on and such like that just hey next play 6 seconds at a time one play mentality like coach Franklin preaches and I I mean I would say that's that's true throughout the whole from defense and offense uh if defense was down offense has their back um offense is up to standard defense has
