Notre Dame football update: Latest on injuries before Texas A&M game | Prepping for crowd noise

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman met with the media on Thursday afternoon to discuss a handful of things we're going to talk about the key things that he said today with Jack soble folks make sure you hit the thumbs up on this video subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content head over to blueandgold.com for much more fighting Irish coverage and we still have our deal going right now um code kickoff 24 you get 50% off your annual membership it's a value of $4.99 per month B build annually okay Jack let's dive into it you asked about some Notre Dame defensive line things Howard cross latest Gabriel Rubio and then you also asked about arml mukum yeah so on Cross real quick I just kind of wanted to confirm what we pretty much assumed uh which is that Howard cross who had been nursing a hamstring injury you know he and Al Washington basically said that's on or Washington said like that's on me cross could play today if if if they needed him to in early August but he didn't participate in the Jersey scrimmage so just wanted to confirm Howard cross will be full go no pitch count no limitations whatsoever so obviously good expected but good news for Notre Dame regarding Gabriel Rubio just wanted a quick update on his progress Freeman said he's still about a month out I obviously they would like him back as soon as they can he'll be a Valu member of that defensive line rotation but in his absence I guyy by the name of arml mukim a sophomore wearing number 88 he looks great in that number 88 just a great defensive tackle number I but he he's really stepped up from year one to Year from year one to year two uh both physically and with his play in the field I he he missed Spring ball so he didn't really know a ton about where he would be at heading into this year but he's really stepped up in Fall camp and Freeman said he's a guy who could help them on the field as early as Saturday so we did right before the press conference get an up date um on three true freshman you got tabon Benny pow undergone surgery on his left shoulder labrum expected to miss the remainder of the season um styles Prescott an offensive lineman right shoulder injury undergoing so during the coming weeks expect expected the Miss remain of the season I don't think we expected Benny pal or Prescott to play this year T Johnson surgery on um his left fifth metatarsal and I expect it to return that's medical for foot maybe something like that we'll get the crack staff on that real quick um and uh he is expected to play this season yes it is but the Google here's what the Google shows real quick let me pull this up so there you go there's your left your fifth metat tarsal so right right right there good call I would have not known I'm not very smart Tay Johnson I mean all three of these guys pretty much retro candidates the safety positions one that you could see you know there there would be an opportunity for young guys so maybe Tay Johnson but do you have any any thoughts on this or anything else that Marcus ran added yeah Marcus rean basically said that like uh with with the shoulders to Benny Powell and Prescott they were they were guys who they kind of thought were rard candidates and they came into n Dame with pre-existing shoulder injuries so they they they could they Freeman said like they could have waited until after the season to have those surgeries and then that would put them in Jeopardy for Spring ball or have those surgeries now get full strength for for Spring ball they chose option b i I think it's it's a prudent decision especially if they're gonna anyway because that that spring the F the first spring for both of them for for Benny pal because he's in the summer second spring for Prescott that spring entering your sophomore are huge here at Notre Dame so they wanted to to get those guys at full strength then Johnson I heard his foot late in Fall Camp Freeman said another guy that we pretty much considered a redirt candidate but maybe athletic enough to help on special teams or play late in gam something like that so obviously set back for him but good news there that I that they expect to get him back this season there was a question about the green dots I keep hearing about these green dots on the helmets mythical Green Dots these Green Dots tell me about these freaking Green Dots Jack what do the people need to know so college football has caught up to what the NFL has done with in about for about like 25 years something like that as long as I can remember watching football which I know isn't isn't that relatively long but I I I can always remember helmet communication being a thing at the NFL level but college football caught up this year and on both sides of the ball they're going to have direct communication into helmet speakers from coordinator to one player on the field and that that one player on the field is designated by the Green Dot on the back on the back of their helmet that is what the Green Dot means and on offense obviously it's the quarterback there's really no question there about who has the Green Dot on defense it's a bit little bit more of a question the vast majority of teams will will put that green dot in the linebacker in the middle of the defense traditionally the the one who calls who calls it to start that will be Jack Kaiser he will have the Green Dot to start the game when Kaiser is not in the game though Freeman mentioned Drake bow and even freshman Kingston Ville amasa as guys could wear the Green Dot but I it has to be only one of them and re really Freeman said Monday could be any of the linebackers and he confirmed that the way it works is if you're a linebacker not named Kaiser you have two helmets one with the green do and one without yeah ridiculous thing but it's a little silly but I mean it makes sense right because you can't you're not gonna uninstall a speaker into a in and out of a helmet mid game and you can only have one of those guys in the field on the field at a time that that's the gist of it Drake KVA I think probably osari and sne to will wear will have two different helmets come game day it just seems It's 2024 is this really the best we can do is you have to have multiple Helms I don't know it seems like there's some other technology it's not yeah it it oh it makes sense it's just like really this is well this would make better sense 2010 there is probably the option of like having some kind of opt having some kind of chart or like computer screen iPad whatever where you like press a button and that guy is one who can hear the who can hear the coordinator but who knows what Michigan would do with that right so who knows what Michigan would do with that yeah you watchall never mind I have not I have not watched it yet it's uh it's on the to-do list as well as here the here come the Irish on peacock I got a lot of uh I don't know man I don't know how my boss would feel if I tell him for work I'm just watching Netflix and and and peacock anyways I mean I kind of I kind of Justified the amount of colge football 25 that I play as you know it's work it's scouting yeah it's obviously scouting it's research and my R and cinjun are going to are gonna get get their act together eventually yeah and maybe Missouri can when me and you play um against each other you know that's that's unrelated we'll cut this part out piping piping In Crowd noise oh we're not cutting that piping In Crowd noise Jack uh you guys were was it on Tuesday you guys were waiting for interviews and you guys could hear the end of practice tell us about that oh it was loud and frankly the the A&M fight songs are already stuck in my head I from that I mean it it it was loud for us standing outside I can only imagine how loud it was for the players who were inside the I and and they were they were inside because it was a kind of the tail end of like the the downpour that we got you randomly in the middle of Tuesday afternoon so yeah we we could hear the the noise we could hear the chance I Freeman actually took that a step further today he was like yeah we're really training them as to like tunnel they come out of where where the student section is where where the noise is going to be coming from just in their best possible efforts I they they know and Freeman acknowledge this that they can't do everything they can to prepare them for this like they have there's to some extent you you just got to experience it to really know it but they're doing everything they possibly can to get them as prepared for the environment as possible so that's piping and crowd noise that's practicing in the heat Benjamin Morrison told me that like Freeman's preach to the team is that like this heat w that we're having this in South Bend this week is a gift from God and and they they got to take advantage of that and I mean the the player the players came in uh Tuesday afternoon after a practice that involved extreme heat and Rain both of which we could very well see Saturday night if if you check the forecast in College Station I so I I think it's it's interesting like the length they're going to to prepare them for this folks 50% off this is I mean you got this week it's going away Friday night 50% off annual memberships use the promo code kickoff 24 it's
