Rob Brooks godos Ramirez one and0 and that's how you start the season you want to be dominant in the trenches they were dominant on both sides of the ball Jordan Mason went for 150 150 and then Brock py looked incredible in the pocket calm cool Collective this is might be the best offensive line that KY Shanahan has had you don't want to imagine life without Christian mcaffrey but you got a glimpse of what it can be like and it's not that bad listen Jordan Mason had never touched the ball more in a single game in his career 28 rushing attempts tonight for Jordan Mason we're going to break it all down the game the historic moments and first we got to go out to our 49ers Insider Matt mayoka first of all Matt congratulations on your 30th season covering the 49ers you are the beacon of what a beat Rider should be in an Insider works so congrats on that my friend and with that what impressed you the most about tonight's performance by Jordan Mason Matt uh you know he was ready to play you know we thought that Christian mcaffry was going to be available for this game that's the way he was talking on Friday but Jordan Mason sees the moment I mean this is a guy that never had this many carries in a college game at Georgia Tech in his four-year career never had this many yards rushing in in his college career at Georgia Tech and Monday Night Football the stage wasn't too big for him we've seen it in glimpses where he was used as the closer today he was used as the starter and the closer so just a really impressive allaround performance from Jordan Mason Matt how about Trenton Williams and Brandon auk the hold then and hold out their performance Through Your Eyes uh I could not tell that Trent Williams had missed the entire training camp the hold out you know he signed the big money contract Just A Week Ago um as far as Brandon iuk I think there was some Rust there um you know he had one pass that that he could have held on to that got Stripped Away another one a very tough chance right before the end of the half but it it's the kind of catch that we've seen Brandon iuk make a lot so he wasn't targeted too often only had the two catches uh did not come up with what would have been a really nice diving catch in the end zone so I I think that while he's going through this re acclamation period you know it's important for guys like Jordan Mason and Debo Samuel to do more for Jaan Jennings you know for the whole offense to kind of get going cuz I still think it might be a week or two before Brandon iuk really gets into the flow of things and kind of reconnects like he did so well with Brock pie last season so I'd say with Brandon iuk a work in progress with Trent Williams business as usual Matt and the flashes will go to Jake Moody and Jordan Mason but what about the new defensive coordinator Nick senson having a great game again what did you see from his debut tonight as a 49ers DC yeah very solid I mean this was a kind of game where they were going to be really no surprises on either team the Jets go up against their defense which is very similar basically the same uh defense that the 49ers have so there weren't going to be any surprises but what Nick senson was able to do was he called a great game plan as far as having the guys playing fast and physical um he had them in positions to make plays and they made some plays I mean really the only thing that Aaron Rogers got going against the 49ers was when Leonard Floyd jumped offside looked like the 4 defense kind of paused and then he he beat him deep for a touchdown so that's something the forers got to clean up especially with a guy like Aaron Rogers if you jump offside just keep going because he'll burn you every time but aside from that hiccup you know they they came up with an interception uh the fumble early in the game yeah Nick Sorenson's defense looked very aggressive and uh put the clamps not only on Aaron Rodgers but also Bree Hall one of the more Dynamic running backs in the league of all around a very solid performance on both sides of the ball and on special teams for the 49ers Matt thanks a lot and again congrats on your 30th season covering the San Francisco 49ers game one is in the books we'll check in with you next week from men for their respective units and it wasn't until the Niners fourth drive where they really got that run game cooking so for those two guys and I want to shout out a couple of guys as well almost forgot about him it's crazy you forget about Nick Bosa but he was he was a tone Setter from the absolute beginning of the game and Malik Collins he had a couple of big run stops very early in that game that set the tone that shut down that Jets run offense I mean one of the big points I remember from last season was how much that defensive line Dante would just Retreat and give away some space and not set the line of scrimmage we saw Hargrave and Collins today establish it and not give away anything they went back to basics football is tackling football and wouldn't have sto the Run game it's all attitude it's all fundamentals you first off have to set the edge and then you need two big run Stoppers in the middle like Hargrave and Malik Collins that's not going to get skinny most of the time they're going to Bow up penetrate in between two blockers keep the linebackers free and if you don't block them they're going to make the tackles that's what they got back to today dominant interior run defense and it's what the Jets did not do exactly because we got to a point and I think it was midway through the first half where you could clearly see we talked about in The Green Room Jets didn't want a tackle they wanted nothing to do with Jordan Mason and that Niners run defense and I want to give credit to the Niners offensive line it was a little shaky start at the beginning in run offense and in pass protection but they eventually got it going George KD was his normal self in terms of run blocking and the receivers did it as well so I mean it was basically the exact same thing we've seen over the last couple of years with the exception of no Christian mcaffry yeah and the 49ers made several right decisions in this game but there was a big one the right decision brought to you by verardi Zar the 49ers official attorneys and that was given it to these two folks Jordan Mason a career high 28 Rush attempts 147 rushing yards Debo had fuer load with eight rushing attempts but they were specifically in effective with 23 yards for deos would run for you knowon or landz Gary I you keep going on down the list and Kyle Shanahan is doing exactly what his dad did back in the day this is the basis of the Shanahan family offense and when it works it is a bludgeoning thing of beauty you know who I saw out there I was going to go you gave a perfect comp I saw beast MO I saw Maran Lynch in his prime when he first got to Seattle the way that he's able to put his foot in the ground cut back take on contact deliver the blow consistently fall forward that's what you like from a running back and that's what they've been hammering out of Jordan Mason all training camp and being out there for the entirety of training camp Jordan Mason ran exactly the way that he ran today every through the roof and he had that want to as well and he had that want to and those boys was getting out of his way like oh o o for for the uh uninitiated for the uneducated in football matters at home Dante how do you know that a linebacker or a cornerback just flat out quit M Midway through the game because you were very adamant and you said these guys don't want any piece of Jordan Mason how do you know what well well when you start to see those holes open up like that you can drive a truck through and then you see a safety coming from the middle of the field or wherever he is on the field and he kind of slow down and start looking around waiting for somebody else to get the guy they don't want any parts of Jordan Mason and that's the type of running you have to put on film to show defenses around the league that hey when you come play us it's not only Christian mcaffrey we have multitude of different players that's going to give you that physic and hey let's keep it a buck the way you get hurt in football is when you don't play hard and when you don't play full speed and you turn down contact how many Jets players did we see get Nicks and bumps because of what because they did not want to get in there and deal with Jordan Mason deal with those niners blockers deal with that offensive line we saw plenty of Jets players again not saying that they didn't want to do it but you can tell by their body language they were not into it and because of that they got hurt that's Advantage N I can already hear it on not having a guy like Christian mcaffrey for a short amount of time season long a good portion of the season it's a completely different story but for four or five I think six weeks at the most because of exactly what we saw today the Niners are the type of team that can handle not having someone who's an MVP candidate for a short amount of time no other team can do that and I agree with Rod because today was a small sample size they didn't know who Jordan Mason really was coming into this game they couldn't really Scout him it was a lot like almost like UNSC scouted look when you get a guy like Jordan Mason in those type of situations you don't really know how to attack him with Christian mcaffrey you didn't see Jordan Mason lying at wide receiver today no you didn't see him catch too many balls out of the back field that's where Christian mcaffrey becomes Ultra valuable now they have a onew punch and not just strictly relying on Christian mcaf but let's give Debo some credit and we talked about this during training camper preseason how Debo came into camp in fantastic shape had himself a hell of a camp he can be Christian mcaffrey like and you saw that in the game you know there was that one catch from George KD that first down catch where he was wide open why was it because of all the attention that was focused on Debo that would normally be Christian McCaffrey having four or five sets of eyes on him so again the Niners are uniquely built and uniquely qualified to deal for a short amount of time without Christian mcaffrey because of the talent they have and I think that does start with Debo Caffrey doing a Christian mcaffrey like impression and we'll see how Jordan Mason recovers it will be a short week for the 49ers playing on Monday and then Sunday morning against the Vikings now we go to the QB comparison brought to you by gold bar whiskey the official whiskey of the San Francisco 49ers uh Aaron who I ask you at home who because Brock pie did everything forget about the TD interceptions he needed to be today this kind of dude and he threw a ball to Brandon Aug BR that should have been a touchdown how do you evaluate Brock's game tonight um he looked calm in the pocket uh he didn't get flustered when things were not going well early he was able to rely on that run game he had some really pretty throws the one thing I did like and talked about this in the pregame saw that scramble y saw that first down scramble more of that for Brock pie more Brock P us it his legs that'll keep defenses honest I saw much of the same but there was one particular to me Dante his internal clock is so much slower than what he saw come in two years ago he has every timing set in his brain and he knows how much time where he can go he's not rushing out there he's determining Tempo with his play and he's pushing the ball down field it's not just all underneath it's not just all inside routes like we saw with garoo it's a lot of everything you get use check sneaking up to the sideline you get timing routes he's a game manager because he knows where to go with the ball he has the proper timing he has the accuracy he has full command of this offense so as long as Brock py continues on this trend the 49ers are in in great hands all right quick break here on Toyota spe he for [Music]
