after a convincing win against Clemson and Atlanta to start the season Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs return to Athens to a hero's welcome these fans are fired up to have the number one team in the nation playing home between the hedges it is Saturday in Athens and what a beautiful day for football we welcome you to the SEC on ESPN the top ranked Georgia Bulldogs home opener against the Tennessee Tech golden eagles hi everybody alongside Rocky boyman I'm Jay alter thank you so much for joining us so Georgia comes into the season preseason number one well they looked the part in that second half last week against Clemson I'm curious Rocky when you look at this Georgia team what impresses you the most well you know me I got to talk about the defense this was a bulldog defense that coming into this year they sent four guys to the NFL draft from last year's team and they just reloaded they held a top Clemson offense to no touchdowns scored 27 different Georgia Defenders registered a stat but maybe none more impressive than Malachi Starks that man right there that play right there was one that Kirby Smart said maybe the most impressive play I've ever seen that's saying something that's High Praise from the head coach let's check in with Ashley stroll line on the sideline well Jay and Rocky when asked about Malachi Starks Kirby Smart leads with what a great person he is he says when Malachi came into this program he was humble talented and now in this year in year three with the Bulldogs he sees Malachi playing with confidence and as the vocal leader of the secondary Malachi was feeling so good after that interception in week one he told Kirby maybe I'll go to pass you on the alltime interceptions list here at Georgia Kirby said he told Malachi look I was here for 5 years you're going to be gone soon I don't think that's going to happen Kirby finished with 13 interceptions when he played here Malachi is up to six after last week now we get our first look at Malachi Starks this dominant Georgia defense that held Clemson to just three points going against Jordan pots and the Tennessee Tech offense pots came in last week against Middle Tennessee they were down 20 one nothing through three touchdowns looked really good but now going against the number one defense in the country trying to end around and no room to run swarming to the ball good to see jonell Aguero suited up for the dogs he missed the Clemson game last week gets the start today and obviously Jay tough to run around this Georgia defense but you talked about him Janelle Aguero right there miss the game last week coaches talked about how great of a camp he had and they were so disappointed he couldn't play last week making an impact here early Tennessee Tech loses four on first down so a second and 14 delayed handoff going to tough to find holes against this Georgia defensive front Rocky yeah and this the strength of this defense you know they lose a little bit on the secondary but that front seven for Georgia the defensive line the linebackers coach Glenn Schuman yesterday told us maybe one of their more athletic dline groups they've ever had here that's saying some as [Music] well so after two unsuccessful runs Georgia will have their ears pinned back on a third and 11 interesting if geordan decides to bring pressure [Applause] here and a timeout taken already ahead of this third and 11e [Applause] T and we'll step aside just getting started in Athens the number one Bulldogs third 11 upcoming it's the dawn of new er in the SEC and it's a whole new ball game we're bringing more to every [Applause] [Music] practice influ individual Saturday in Athens just getting started third and 11 here for Tennessee Tech Rocky I think Georgia one thing from last year to this year they wanted more pass rush out of that dline group I think they're going to cut those guys loose today maybe lean Less on the blitz see if those guys can win one-on-one up there five on the line Jordan pots the quarterback for Tennessee Tech hands it off best run of this opening drive but well short of the first down marker needed 11 only got seven CJ Allen made the stop for Georgia you really enjoyed talking CJ Allen yesterday great linebacker young kid a sophomore you know he's the guy in command out there too he's got that helmet communication he's the one getting the signal getting the call in from Glenn Schuman and communicating that to the rest of the D Georgia's Defense Forces a three and out on the opening drive Anthony Evans back to receive the punt Spencer Ashby gets it away cleanly Evans makes two men Miss here's Anthony Evans shutting off the Speed excellent starting field position after Anthony Evans returns it for 43 yds a little bit risky from Anthony Evans there there was a white jersey right in his face but you just got the feeling he said look I want to try to cut one loose today and you know not even a ton of great blocking there but some good reads and then he sees you see the speed kicking it to the outside setting up a great return well executed outstanding field position for Carson back in this Georgia offense knocking right on the doorstep of the Red Zone play action Carson back clean pocket dials one to the end zone it's caught touchdown Georgia [Applause] what a start for the number one team in the nation you get the three and out stop on defense the punt return and then first play a touchdown let's just make sure he was in here had the ball secured Jay I believe that is a catch and that is going to stand great route there by Bill you get the feeling this offense say you know so much talk about this defense here we're going to try to light this thing up today they did early what might be forgotten in the touchdown is Trevor etn was in the back field they did the play action to the transfer from Florida he missed the kson game so good to see him available making his Georgia debut and we'll get a chance to talk about etm but right now this is Carson Becks game the beautiful touch on the corner route in Georgia up early here in Athens the last week Georgia won in convincing fashion 34-3 but they did it without Trevor etn who was held out back in today they didn't need him first offensive play from scrimmage a little play action Rocky and it went for a Georgia touchdown in this touchdown you'll see Dylan Bell at the bottom of the screen it's called a corner route he's going to go vertical and then cut that thing right to the pylon he got Toby Bolton the cornerback all twisted around just a well executed well-run route and and we'll talk about about Carson Beck as this game goes on but his accuracy Jay the way he puts that ball exactly precisely where it's supposed to be is what makes him stand out and speaking with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo he goes we just need to get Dylan Bell the ball as much as possible they can use him in so many different roles that time lined up as a wide receiver but you'll see him out of the back field as well what a weapon for Carson Beck picks him up to open the scoring here in Athens yeah Dylan Bell goodl looking kid man you know big thick tall but still can just absolutely fly on the outside you mentioned Jay he's a guy they'll just get him the ball in space and let him go Jordan pots to this Tennessee Tech offense hoping for a better return it was three and out on the opening drive hops see that's Jordan Yates the wide receiver that they lined up at quarterback he's a familiar player to Kirby Smart at this Georgia staff he started his college career as a quarterback at Georgia Tech actually started a game against the dogs in 2021 y's going to get some Touches at quarterback today yeah for Tennessee Tech they lost their starting quarterback Dylan liel last week early in the first quarter so you got to think about Bobby Wilder probably don't want to put his quarterback get to his third quarterback right put him in danger so you might see a couple different ones today it's pots in there now play action in trouble down he goes shot out of the cannon KJ Balden the true freshman from Buford Georgia J shot Happ to Canon right look at the right of your screen they're pulling a lineman from the other side to block him but he just beats him with be KJ Bol he had a big third down stoping believe it was the first play of the game last week true freshman just another athletic specimen on that Georgia Georgia defense a safety who snuck in pots didn't see him third and 14 a pitch well defended again Damon Wilson got there for Georgia and it is just too easy for this dog's def defense and they were so good against Clemson and then you get Tennessee teken here and obviously they just don't have the bodies up front to block this Georgia defense and that's maybe the most impressive thing about this Georgia defense is as I said in the open 27 different guys registered a stat last week they get so many players involved and that's such a good thing Jay cuz now everyone feels like they're a part of it instead of just 11 guys out there being the guy all the time everybody's contributing contributing with dep yeah it is strength in numbers for this Georgia defense Here Comes Carson Beck it's been a slow burn to becoming one of the nation's top quarterbacks originally committed to play baseball at Florida you know backup quarterback here in Athens for three seasons and that finally got his shot last year led the SEC in passing and now back for his Fifth and final season to be a fifth year quarterback Rocky at the same school and the same system that's like an endangered species it's an anomaly you don't see it so many just oneyear quarterbacks in the day and age of the transfer portable this guy's been in this Georgia System since 2020 during the co Year all that experience is just paid off Kirby Smart told us yesterday how do you get good at quarterback how do you get good at anything reps reps reps and Beck has them and he's got Trevor ET etn the transfer from Florida his first carry at a Georgia uniform right up the middle flag thrown great job opening up things here for Georgia with a nice punt return setting up great field position for Carson Beck and that offense One play one throw one catch one touchdown that's what puts us right here etn first Carry negated by a hold this will back Georgia up behind the chains this Georgia running back room looked pretty good without etn last week against Clemson now you add a transfer from Florida who rushed for nearly 1500 yards SEC experience that room gets even better here's Beck checks it down at etn room to run good open field tackle there that's pass complete to etn you mentioned it Jay they didn't have etn last week can still rush for 169 yards and now you throw a guy with that level of talent into the mix here and you can see he's a guy they want to get get him the ball in space and the pass game The Run game he's a weapon also Kirby Smart happy not have to answer questions about Trevor etn status maybe from here on out quick hitter haran Smith plenty of speed didn't get the blocking though C and Spalding backto back tackles for the linebacker came and spaling great job out there Carson Beck you see you see that Green Dot on the back of his helmet he's getting the call from the sideline from Mike Bobo coming from upstairs and then just relaying that call the offense that headset communication a new rule in college football this year let's see what they dialed up on a third and 11 Beck unloads over the middle it's caught for a Georgia first down Oscar Delp the tight end found a soft space in the secondary and this what's so impressive about him he surveys the field and when the GU open bang just rips it no hesitation no delay and that ball comes out of his hand and here they go some Tempo play action quick hitter couple of broken tackles there for Dominic love it quick feet enjoyed our conversation with love it the transfer from Missouri look at the fancy footwork here that's a perfectly well positioned play on the defense and just a great athletic play more Tempo here back rolling right fires quickly it's another Georgia first down picking Tennessee ACH apart in the passing game Aran Smith on that grab and you know Jay last week during Clemson when they increased the tempo that seemed to be when this offense got into Rhythm we're seeing that continue here just something about that when you have a good play if something positive happens you get right back on the line and let it go again Branson Robinson into the back field for the [Music] Bulldogs back dumps it off to Robinson inside the 10 trying to turn those legs forward falls to the six a great decision they go too deep here the Beck no hesitation don't pass up an open guy get the ball in his hand let him go to work great job on the catch there by Robinson you sometimes quarterbacks they look for that perfect guy like who's more open though boom open guy get him the ball let him go Carson Beck's processing speed so quick to me Jay that's what sets him apart from virtually every other quarterback in college football his ability to see it and then just let it go and process that information special back surveys tosses to the end zone touchdown Georgia kby young untouched [Music] [Music] Carson back in Georgia dominating in the passing game yeah they really are we just spreading the field getting the ball out to different receivers look great seven passes on that drive to six different receivers Colby young had the touchdown well the first touchdown was a deep ball then they just started just chip chip chipping away then the nice Crossing route the Kobe young touchdown last week touchdown today Georgia in control a good day at the office so far for Georgia quarterback Carson Beck he starts the season firmly planted in that Heisman Trophy conversation 8 for eight 90 yards and two touchdowns offensive coordinator Mike Bobo talking with him yesterday he so has enjoyed working with Carson back and seeing the progression year after year yeah he he's the guy he said look you give back a concept he's never seen or heard before on a Thursday and he goes right out executes it understands fully what's going on it's just such a luxury as a coach to have a guy that can just grasp something like that so quickly and then go execute it free kick out of bounds kicking team ball be placed at 35 yd line first down week two in the SEC continues tonight 7:45 Eastern Oklahoma hosting Houston and then exclusively on ESPN plus a handful of games number nine Missouri taking on Buffalo Florida has Samford and LSU trying to bounce back after their week one loss against Nicholls so a loaded night in the secc this is slightly better field position for Tennessee Tech to start start the drive it's been tough sledding against this Georgia defense interesting Rocky that they're clearly coming out trying to establish the run because they're down about 100 lb at every position on the offensive line yeah that's tough going Toe to Toe and again I mean you mentioned the size Jay but as we've been discussing it's more just the depth cuz they're they're bringing they have a 300 lb body but then they're bringing another one and then another one then another one and when you only have to play 20 30 plays in a game you can go all out for those big guys that's what makes him special play action pox swarmed blown up in the back field Christian Miller the defensive tackle shot in for the sack just a great job of just swarming smile mundon is the guy that leaked through number two and caused the quarterback to have to escape out you see there number two with a great job flushing M then Miller getting him to the ground eight plays three tackles for loss for this Georgia defense and they're in Pursuit again on a third and [Applause] 12 Jaylen Walker off the edge pots diving forward this will be close to the first down depending where they Mark him [Music] just short so fourth in a matter of inches right near the 45 yd line got nothing to lose of your Tennessee Tech here yeah go for it let's go and you'll see smile London watch he gets kind of the referee gets in the way oh which almost enables that was maybe the best block thrown all day by the referee out there it's early someone could beat it later but yes so far he's the leader of the club fourth and one play clock winding down Bobby Wilder has to take a timeout here his second timeout already second charge timeout Tennessee Tech 30 second timeout George are already up to a 14- nothing lead week one in the CC if you like points this conference showed up in a big way we were part of a couple of those last week 45 points per game in SEC games at four wins by 60 plus we saw two of them with Arkansas and Old Miss a combined was 146 points we saw in that game yeah SEC offense is not taking their foot off of gas you know using some of these early games as an opportunity to get things ironed out and you're talking talking good quarterbacks talking explosive wide receivers so what makes this conference special Kirby told us about it yesterday he he said it's impossible to watch every SEC game but he gets sent all the explosive plays in all the fourth and ones and third and one so he'll get this one cut up a fourth and one Jordan Yates the wide receiver takes a snap hands it off trying to turn that corner get a yard and he did J Parker fifth year senior from Nashville Tennessee a creative play here to keep the drive alive good job good confidence Builder here for Tennessee Tech get the end around the Jet Sweep only needed a couple and that's what they got there you go good job young man well that is a good example of exactly why Kirby Smart George's head coach wants all those fourth and ones and third and ones sent to him every week because it's so critical it can win you a football game if you can execute on those short yardage those are the crucial plays stick with the ground gamee Obi sany lost his helmet on that carry gain of five you're rushing into nazer stack house 320 lb Christian Miller 35 lbs and and those guys can also move Jay that's again that's why what's separates the SEC fronts from the fronts in the rest of college football those are the guys that don't grow on trees you can find athletic wide receivers all over the country but those are guys that are that big and that fast that can play dline there's only a small part of them and a lot of them go to Georgia second and five wrapped up great Pursuit Tyron Ingram Dawkins who got the start today in place of Michael Williams who left the Clemson game and has been ruled out for today and you know Jay it's not just the depth they have it's the fact that most of these guys on defense Glenn Schuman requires that they know a couple positions you know so you're you're playing a hybrid you might play a DN and then an outside linebacker an inside linebacker and then go to Edge rusher like Jaylen Walker does so much that just increases in my opinion your understanding of not just what you do but the whole concept of the defense and which allows you just to go fly around out there third and six po pressure coming lost the football just has to fall on it he saw four red jerseys bearing down on him in the back field and he lost control that's an intimidating sight I mean just a little X stun up front there got raayan Wilson the linebacker and then I think that was mundon coming right in behind him forcing the quarterback flushing him out that's how you do it the Tennessee Tech forced a punt for the third time today just in this first quarter Georgia defense continues to execute at such a high level Anthony Evans didn't call for the fair catch dropped at the 20 let's check in down on the sideline with Ashley hey Jay when I had a chance to speak with Bulldog's Quarterback Carson about what the off to do to get off to a fast start against Tennessee techday he said preparation is key he said it's not that we didn't prepare well for Clemson we had a really good plan but he wanted to make sure to remind all of his teammates to be really intentional in preparation leading up to this one so when they get out there they already have the juices flowing and as you can see right now uh with this score 14 to nothing in the first quarter they're off to that fast start today yeah actually preparation is key to anything and you know also Clemson makes it tough first Game of the Year you don't really know what the defense is going to do where they've upgraded what things they're going to do defensively but you get one game you get tape on somebody you study that thing and it just helps kind of narrow Focus your game plan and a good look at Trevor etn there it's funny Rocky everyone got a great look at the true freshman running back against Clemson last week Nate Frasier 11 carries 83 yards at a touchdown he hasn't taken one snap today cuz et's back in the mix here's etn makes a cut spun around just shy of the 35 yd line gain of 10 and etn is just another one of these backs and all these backs are a little bit different etn 592 and watch he just kind of hides behind those gigantic Georgia lineman then sees a little bit of a crease and hits it really well done play action deck gets it out it quickly again that's Dylan Bell caught the opening TouchDown for Georgia Carson backck very comfortable in a collapsing pocket doesn't panic gets it out calmly quickly and that's all you know knowing where your protection is knowing where the routes are going to develop there's no Panic just staying calm delivering the ball and here's Nate Fraser into the back field instead they go to Dominique l boy he's got a motor that acceleration gets up the field quickly gain of 11 and another Georgia first down really enjoyed talking with love it yesterday talk about some of the receivers he likes to watch he said I like the old school guys like Ooa we like Ooa that guy played when I play that's not that of an old guy free play for Beck dials up a deep ball looking for Dylan Bell he knew he had a chance to take a shot there with the flag down at the line of scrimmage offside number 52 defense 5yd penalty replay first down all quarterbacks know to do this get the hard count and you see those guys jump you're immediately going downtown mean Aaron R has made that such a popular thing to do pton Manning all the great quarterbacks do it go ahead and if they're going to give you a free play go try to take it go upstairs condensed formation here by Georgia that goes under Center hand off Frasier breaks a tackle the Georgia fans so impressed with Frasier's Collegiate debut last week over a 100 yards at a touchdown his first Carry today sends us to the second quarter with the dogs up two touchdowns well you could not have scripted a better start to this game for Carson back in the Georgia offense Rocky 11 for 11 two touchdowns and he's really spreading the ball around he really is and you know here's just a good look after the punt return this is what really set up that first drive that touchdown Drive they have his first touchdown pass that was a Dylan Bell but for Carson back it's it's it's the consistency too that's a word you always hate as an analyst here Cuts kind of Coach speak but he does it he makes the right throw again and again and again there's there's quarterbacks all across college football that make great throws but not many of them do it time and time again the way Carson Beck does here's Nate Frasier so explosive absorbs a big hit there gain of five for another Georgia first down and Jay Nate Frasier has this whole town down here talking what a special player Nate fr is early in his career just a freshman he's got that short area quickness he can put put a move on the inside a foam booth and really I think think just kind of brings that juice to this offense it's incredible after one game just you know his Collegiate debut against Clemson you have people walking around Athens going he's the next great and they've seen a lot of good ones come out of this running back room back taking a shot first incompletion to the day har and Smith broke away and Beck just missed him that's one Beck doesn't miss very often post route they call that the big post where it comes from one side of the field all the way to the other side and you can see it he let that thing go and he knows God could I have that one back cuz that was a Surefire touchdown [Music] here's Branson Robinson room to run this running back room has so much depth we've mentioned Nate Fraser Trevor etn back into the mix after missing last week and when we asked Kirby Smart he goes you know the biggest key to our running backs having success the five offensive linemen that they're running me on well I don't want to say that you could run behind this line Jay and get be productive Ian not that that productive but uh yeah those big Bo Bo up front are the ones that get it done they open up those holes then you let those special athletes in the back field do what they do four returning starting offensive lineman what a weapon that is in the Run game as etn Springs one gain of nine and speaking with Carson Beck he believes this is the best offensive line in the country in front of him and he he said they're going to win the Joe Moore award which goes to the best defensive line unit in the nation very experienced only Jared Wilson is is the new starter the center again same thing all those reps all those opportunities they've gotten to play against top competition just makes them the best he wanted to take this snap quickly there resets play action to LA and lucky knocked out of bounds just shy of the 10 yd line you and obviously you know when Brock Bowers leaves maybe one of the best tight ends in college football history that leaves a huge hole but I think it's guys like Lucky and Guys Like Love it just maybe not one guy is going to replace Brock Bowers but a combination of a bunch of those wide receivers going to make sure that production doesn't [Applause] dipn following his blockers inside the five it's going to be interesting to see just how defenses choose to play Georgia Barson Beck didn't get much manto man last year because teams couldn't really cover Brock Bowers right so in the Clemson game they got a little more manto man but I'll tell you what man or Zone Carson Beck just seem to know where to go with that football Nate Frasier back into the game moves to the right hip of Carson Beck thrs it to the end zone incomplete just got the timing a little wrong with kby young he's their Red Zone threat and they hadit hit a back shoulder like you saw right there to Kobe young for a touchdown last week tried on the other side of the field this week and you'll see he just tries to get vertical in the last minute turn that thing around looked like it might have been a little bit of Hands by caulder Williford the the cornerback there didn't allow young to get them shoulders turned around and get that catch radius 13th play of the drive it's a third and three inside the five Carson backck trying to punch it in for a third Georgia touchdown today rolls right surveys nobody open back tried to squeeze it in there and it falls incomplete that was a bit of a dangerous throw there by B throwing across his body late good coverage on the back end he's rolling out trying to see if somebody can get open get open get open and gets a little pressure forces him have to throw that thing quick was a nice job by this Tennessee Tech defense Tomy Balton almost had a pick too yeah risky ball there by Carson Beck it's Ezekiel Brinson down for Tennessee Tech defensively will'll step away ahead of this fourth and three Georgia leading 14 nothing here in Athens Rocky boyman Jay alter with you number one team in the country certainly like looks like it impressive in that Victory against Clemson last weekend 34-3 and already up two touchdowns looking for a third here offense on the field for a fourth and three Carson Beck goes under Center trying to hard count now switching the play identifying the [Applause] coverage totally in command out there see if they run a play looks like an NFL quarterback in all the pre snap audibles trying to get him to jump now he's looking at the sideline saying all right come on now now let me run a play here let's go [Applause] [Music] they look yeah they look happy to just take the time out and kick the field Play De with the flag theb game offense 5yd penalty still fourth down well you mentioned J just the confidence of how he's signaling things and clapping and when the quarterback has conf confidence everybody has confidence Beck stays out as the holder for Payton Woodring who was a perfect two for two including one from 55 last week against Clemson this one from just 27 Chip Shot for the sophomore and he puts it right through to put the Bulldogs up 17 nothing a tall task no doubt about it for Tennessee TCH and their head coach Bobby Wilder he's back on the sidelines for the first time since since 2019 I love that he told us hey got a lot of rounds of golf in for 2020 to 2023 but he was waiting for the right opportunity to get back in feels like you know obviously not against Georgia but can have a lot of success there with the golden eagles he did a great job for many years with Old Dominion kind of put them on the map and then like you said he finds himself out of football for four years I mean a credit to how highly he's respected to hire a coach that's been out of football for four years to bring him in he seemed really excited about building this program and you know just like every program with a new coach Jay brought in a bunch of new guys trying to find a way to get this thing turned around this is a Tennessee Tech team that took the lead with a minutes too last week against Middle Tennessee State gave up a late touchdown to Los it but battled back in that game after trailing 21 nothing and they've got some famous family that loves this Tennessee Tech football program that's Falcons rookie quarterback Michael penck Jr top 10 pick right down the road playing starting his NFL career with Atlanta and he's here because his younger brother maai is a wide receiver on this Tennessee Tech Team but it's really a Tennessee Tech family his father Michael penck senior great running back for this Golden Eagles team School record 26 61 rushing yards and his mother Teisha was a track and field start it's in the jeans Jay they're undefeated with Michael Maki got some good ones now it's funny Rocky when you're the younger brother of a great quarterback you're going to end up playing wide receiver and that's exactly what Makai is for probably no other reason than Michael's like hey get out there let me throw you some balls and you know get some practice there's Maki right there 64 200 lb and just a red shirt freshman so I'm sure the best football for him is is ahead of him yeah how would you like to go out and catch passes from your brother who is in my opinion one of the more Dynamic quarterbacks we've seen The Last 5 Years in college football he was special new quarterback in for Tennessee Tech this is Ethan Roberts who hands it off there for a gain of five Jaylen Mitchell the transfer from newon and we talked to Bobby Wilder he said look you know we got our first string quarterback Dulan liel HT last week you know we got to go in a conference play next week so you might see a few different quarterbacks out there in an effort to not get another one dinged up and I think it makes a lot of sense yeah Roberts runs off Jordan Yates the Georgia Tech transfer wide receiver goes in to run this play a quarterback third and five George's got their ears pinned back defensively and a flag flies before the snap near the substitution offense broke the huddle with 12 players that's 5yd penalty still third down this so third and five becomes third and 10 Lobby Wilder team is already 0 for four on third down [Music] [Applause] today and this Georgia defense has been Relentless no doubt about who's the best defense in the country to start the season they showed it against clemon holding the Tigers to three and they have looked really good [Applause] today running it on Third and 10 and tennessy Tech moves the chains Kiren kby Georgia was think that they were going to throw the ball in a little delayed handoff you see Georgia drop out of that box here Kiron kby wow some fancy footwork making a very good linebacker for for Georgia silly out there great job Damon Wilson on the Miss tackle an unlikely first down pickup that's the first third down conversion today for Tennessee Tech here's Ethan Roberts diving forward gain of five Roberts the third string quarterback has come in and he's looked the best so far for the golden eagles I can't imagine what it's like for Ethan Roberts because one thing about this Georgia defense we talked about their depth we talked about how they play multiple positions but they have a lot of scheme Jay I mean watching these guys they're not playing vanilla coverages and playing you know cover two and cover three and that's it they do a lot of stuff so that's got to be a nightmare for a quarterback to have to diagnose the running game effective right now best drive not even close torren Baker takes that for 10 defensive coordinator Glenn Schuman ninth season at Georgia he can't be happy with his Rush defense on this drive no not not at all we got to be able to secure that thing up a little bit and it's just been a couple Miss tackles from what I've seen those linebackers [Applause] a fumble that landed right into the arms of torren Baker Roberts didn't handle the snap cleanly and fortunate that Baker was there so Tennessee Tech first play of the game they attempted a pass since then 18 straight runs better be lucky than good fumble it right in the hands of your running back they're choosing to keep this thing on the ground let that clock continue to tick [Applause] away Roberts rolls right nobody open takes it out of bounds Joseph A the true freshman in Pursuit there interesting for Georgia no no contain to that wide side of the field there Roberts just decided to pick it up with his [Music] legs eighth play of this drive for Tennessee Tech that's the longest drive they've had in this first half trying to keep it alive on a third and eight Baker trying to turn that corner shoved out of bounds going to be very close Aguero trying to keep him short of the sticks I think they're going to give him the first down yeah by a matter of inches Tennessee Tech keeps the drive alive two third down pickups on this drive bit of a ho there we saw on the outside on Dan Jackson offensive linean had that hand wrapped around around his shoulder pads up around the [Music] neck I think your Tennessee tag you got to go For Broke here you might not get this good a field position again in this game take a shot yeah and they keep it on the ground and up the middle there's been nothing doing all afternoon long Ingram dockets there to swallow up Baker Ingram Dawkins is just a humongous human being playing defense 65 280 again still has the athleticism to play in he'll kick down inside like again like a lot of these Georgia Bulldog Defenders do play multiple positions 21 consecutive run plays first play of the game was a pass attempt and then 21 straight runs on this drive they've been running it a little better not that time though George is swarming to the football it was Christian Miller that was the first to get there and they're doing something interesting we're getting Gabriel heck the offensive lineman playing slot coming in motion to try to kick out the Georgia Defender but it's tough to just run and kick out those guys and those red jerseys just swarm [Applause] Georgia trying to get off the field on a third down Tennessee Tech has converted their last two third [Applause] Downs out Tennessee T third and final charge goldag burn their final timeout of the half we'll take it as well ahead of a third and 12 welcome back to aens where the Bulldogs lead 17 to nothing Tennessee trying to put together a drive here uh Captain Aaron sord spoke to me ahead of this matchup he said when coach Wilder came to Tennessee Tech that he really took the time to meet with all of the guys that have been there and he said that meant so much he said Co Wilder had put back some juice into this program he's rejuvenated it they've all bought into what he's doing he said Co Wilder has advocated for things that this program has never had they want to go out there take everything they can away from playing the top ranker team in the country and when they get in a conference plate use some of that Knowledge from today we got it Ashley I'll tell you what just talking with Bobby Wilder this week he's a guy I'd play for a lot of energy as you mentioned trying to get these guys believing they better believe right here third and [Applause] long trying some trickery on the end around Georgia not fooled Dan Jackson the fifth year senior safety shot in to make that stop that's what's so unique Rocky about this Georgia team it's not just Carson Beck who's a fifth year senior for this Georgia team they've had a lot of guys stay in this program be on the scout team invest in Georgia and then their fourth and fifth year they get to make plays on Saturdays yeah it's just a program that you don't want to leave you want to be a part of it because the Excellence that Excellence that just exudes all the time everywhere here Dan Jackson is fifth year making plays so an 11pl drive for Tennessee Tech that took seven minutes off the clock results in a punt and a Touchback and we'll be back in Athens Carson back in the Georgia offense back on the field of 17 nothing beautiful day for football here in Athens you know the Georgia Bulldogs they've been playing playing between the hedges since Sanford Stadium opened in 1929 but this year the hedges brand new replanted at the spring the old Hedges had surrounded duly field for 31 years and certainly saw a lot of winning they did their time now some new Hedges to keep the Golden Era of Georgia football rolling here at Athens very cool great do you do your own replanting when it comes to I that's some effort here's Trevor etn a flash there he goes biggest play today for Georgia 45 yd run for Trevor etn oh that's what has folks here in Georgia so excited you're going to kick the guy out and then from there look that's the thing you break through the front line and then he has the speed to kick it to the outside and gain a bunch of yardage just again add another weapon to this dangerous Bulldog offense quick hitter here's Dylan Bell Tai Moss nice tackle to bring Bell down I really like watching Dylan Bell Rocky he is but but just to go back to something we talked earlier about Kirby saying and you know the Run game is less about the back and more about the line to a certain extent it still takes a special guy at that running back position someone like etn and that can you know make a play sometimes the blocking isn't all the way perfect you need a guy that can just find some daylight and hit a crease and go and that's why they brought him in here C Jones the carry here his first of the day upended shy of the 20 yd line good enough for a first down though Oscar Delp holding that right ankle training staff goes over to the junior tight end will step aside as Delp gets treated Georgia leading 17 nothing Delp walking off under his own power good to see Lawson lucky moves into tight end on this play first and 10 for Carson backck to the Georgia offense rolling right tuck and runs some deceptive speed there gain of 12 you said it J deceptive speed I mean he's not a quote running quarterback but he is dangerous enough I mean look he's 6'4 long legs has decent speed and just again something you don't have to be Lamar Jackson out there but you got to be just good enough where the defense has to respect it and pick up some yards here when things break down give your offense first down quick hitter har Smith inside the 10 and that takes us to our two-minute timeout new rule in college football this season George are trying to punch in another touchdown ahead of half time this is a two-minute timeout coming up at halftime you'll be in the studio with DAR NOA Benjamin Watson and Chris doring also you can watch the live performance of the Georgia red coat marching band on ESP n plus scores from around the league Rocky Texas A&M bouncing back comfortably Texas laying it to Michigan on the road and the game we had our eye on because we saw Arkansas last week trailing by a touchdown at Oklahoma State in the fourth quarter and Arkansas was up big early in that game Oklahoma state has come roaring back Georgia leading 17 to nothing here against Tennessee Tech down a red here so many shifts and motions it's tough for a d pitch Branson Robinson ankle tackled kayin crummy did very nice the Junior from Tuscaloosa Alabama transfer from army sets up a third down for Georgia they stalled inside the 10 on their last Drive had to settle for a field goal Carson Beck in the Bulldogs offense trying to get it into the end zone here on a third and eight got two stacked wide receivers bottom the screen some sort of Route concept coming tennessy Tech sloughs off back rolls right surveys the endzone throws a dart Dominique love it touchdown Georgia love it just found enough room for Beck to fire it in there for a Georgia score and love it who Beck calls is most reliable receiver and on a third down inside the 10 he up love it they're just making sure that loveit's feet were in bounds ahead of this extra point look good finally we get the go-ahead there we go really enjoyed our conversation with Dominique love it yest yesterday asked him what sets Georgia apart and he said the competition level in practice our hardest days are Monday through Friday you get the Saturday make plays like this it's just fun and part of it here is Carson Beck look at the patience he didn't just run out of there he's patient survey and survey and then as soon as love it gets a sliver of open area just puts the ball away from the defender on the outside part of the body of love it and just a good job of Dominic loveing you talk to Jay about the competition that's part of it you got to fight to get every catch around here cuz they're not you may not get one another ball thrown to you the whole game there's so many great wide receivers on this team so You' got to make them count you got to make your quarterback have confidence in you yeah I love those quotes he told us yesterday you got to make the quarterback right and there's no such thing as a bad ball now let me tell you every quarterback you're going to make friends with the quarterback if you say hey look there's no such thing as a bad ball in other words I'm going to catch everything just put it in the area and I'm going to catch everything out there I think it's a great mentality for a wide receiver to have instead of complain oh that ball was behind me the ball was too high no no no I'm going to get [Applause] everything I think Z flowers on Thursday night sitting in the back of the end zone was thinking maybe there's something as a bad ball right so Georgia the number one team in the country an incredible 40 straight regular season wins they haven't lost here at home since October 2019 but there's an even more impressive streak pertaining to Georgia football it has nothing to do with the players on the field it's about a fan sitting in the stands we'll tell you about it in the second half you do not want to miss that story and this is going to be absolutely fantastic can't wait to tell this [Applause] story minute 10 seconds remaining in this first half George's defense continues to swarm that pursuit of the football CJ Allen was in on that Georgia takes time out gave Harris on the stop as well Glenn Schuman who's there the defensive coordinator for Georgia so much versatility flexibility and the different packages he can call Rocky they had 20 players play double digit snaps last week against Clemson when you have that much depth in Your Arsenal gives you so much freedom to get creative in the play calling it certainly does and obviously it helps you this particular year because you have guys that can play come in if somebody gets hurt but also helps your continuity you going into next year you're not starting fresh with a roster full of guys that have never played you get them some action as a freshman as a sophomore and then boom when their turn comes they already got a bunch of plays under their belt they can go let it rip smile mundon and CJ Allen number two and number three the two line backers from Georgia and those are NFL linebackers that really set the tone defensively and talking with schum yesterday he said they're out there making all the calls we give them Minor Adjustments now that we have this headset communication as Georgia takes their second timeout they want the ball back here at the end of the first half tonight SEC football final is back for another season they'll take you through the biggest stories of the day break down all the SEC games 11 Eastern over on SEC network and the ESPN app going back to those linebackers Schuman said they've spent so much time working through this defensive playbook it's just an extension of the coaching staff on the field well it is and one thing that they do well around here coach Schuman does well is they put a lot on these guys plates all year right in terms of learning SK team and all throughout the year they're challenge you every single day you got to learn more you got to understand this get into this make this check by the time you get out in the game you've had a ton of reps at it you can just go play they swallow up the third down run here they'll use their final timeout to get the ball back here probably 45 seconds will be left when they and no timeouts when they get the ballia second time out and that's just my biggest take away from being down here last couple days is just every single second number 32 42 Georg now 32 every single second of every day in this program they're going to challenge you in the meeting room on the practice field you know I me it's just all the time you're challenge to be your absolute best and if you're not they're going to find somebody else that can do it and it's the tide that lifts lifts all boats though if you can meet that challenge you're going to be become a heck of a football player down here and what a great challenge for Kirby Smart just in the last two minutes you challenge your defense to get the stop you use your timeouts and now the offense will have an opportunity with under a minute remaining to add some points to this first half lead yeah does that look like a guy who's comfortable with a 24 nothing lead heading in half no he's because it's not even about this game it's about in the future the next game game against Alabama how can we get better how can we fine-tune things let Anthony Evans tiptoes out of bounds 45 seconds to work with for Georgia now he flashed Kirby Smart's record it his tenure as a head coach in Georgia in the last five seasons he is 63 and six now those six losses none of them against an active head coach all those coaches no longer head coaches in college football Nick Sav obviously three losses Dan Mullen Ed oron and will mus so there is not an active head coach in college football right now that has beating Kirby Smart in the last five seasons and I like what he said to us yesterday go look I don't coach scheme anymore but you you saw on that right there earlier he's coaching guys up coaching technique coaching you know how to get better out there really done a good job just running this program and I think as you mentioned Jay as those other guys have retired I I think he's the standard he's the guy at the top of the mountain offense 5yd penalty still first down obviously a defensive Guru in his own right coming up under Nick Sabin as a defensive coordinator winning those four national championships with sabbin at Alabama but bringing that here and taking Georgia the back-to-back national championships and they've got their eyes on another National Championship the extended college football playoff now 12 teams in the playoff not four they would have been in the playoff a year ago if it was 12 Beck hit as he throws dangerous ball there's a flag down in the secondary over on that far sideline and Beck is hanging in that pocket the pass holding number 13 defense penalties 10 yards from the previous spot automatic first [Music] F CRA willford on the outside Holdman there trying to run that go route Bobby Wilder just trying to get out of this half without surrendering another touchdown 40 seconds and 55 Ys in front of Carson Beck in this Georgia offense Beck fires it's caught clock will stop because it's a Georgia first down here 34 seconds remaining Dylan Bell on the grab good opportunity to see Carson Beck and command of this offense in two-minute [Applause] drill he just missed Aran Smith there on a Crossing route that's his second Miss today and again it's you don't usually point out you know misses from quarterbacks unless they they usually don't miss much right he's especially those routes those deep Crossing routes over the middle he really excels with those just having to miss that one 25 seconds remaining certainly a good opportunity to if nothing else El get in field goal range here back steps up that's incomplete again Dominic love who just scored the touchdown Tennessee Tech's making it hard to to get anything deep they are really playing off on the outside playing deep middle of field safety and just making you yearn everything underneath that's why accuracy is so critical three wide receivers to the right one to the left for Carson Beck on a third and 10 hocket collapsing steps up down he goes good third down stop for Tennessee Tech Daniel Ricker providing the pressure Georgia out of time now it's fourth down go for it here Hail Mary yeah now they snap it in time wide receivers headed to the end zone back steps up to the end zone batted and knock down [Music] incomplete couple of incompletions on that final drive Kirby Smart talking with his quarterback Carson back Georgia heads it the half time up 24 to nothing I don't think Cirby sm's going to be happy with how that happened an opportunity to try to get a two-minute drill going and get some points weren't able to do it take a big sack there on third down up 24 nothing let's hear from the Georgia head coach Kirby Smart Who's down with Ashley scho Pharmacy well coach your offense able to get off to a fast start today what do you like about their first half performance well I like the way we started there got in Rhythm did some good things got to score touchdowns in the red area and got to execute in situational football at the end there in two minutes Carson back perfect in the first quarter connecting with multiple targets to move the ball down the field what are your takeaways from his performance Carson does a good job we got to be a little more accurate down the field but he's done a good job getting the ball out of his hand putting us in the right place all right coach thanks thank [Applause] you now Kirby smarts defense pitching a shut out so far 24 points on offense as we're halfway through here in aens number one team of the nation looking like it Georgia home opener and they have picked up up where they left off in Atlanta last week against Clinton look at those stats Tennessee Tech held a -7 passing yards put it together on one drive to pick up four first downs but other than that it has been all Georgia the Bulldog showing why they're the number one team of the nation hi everyone Rocky boyman Jay alter with the Ashley Strow line down on the sideline you in the first half a week ago Georgia fans were worried they had that slow start 6 nothing they've kind of been a second half team under Kirby Smart Tennessee Tech's hoping that they don't find another gear because they look pretty good in that first half well as we've talked about they they have the size and the depth that just wear you down wear you down that's what they did against Clemson and probably the mo that they'll use this week and the rest of the year but how about the performances of Carson Beck first pass of the game right here the corner route perfectly thrown to Dylan Bell he was on fire early was Carson back picking apart the underneath of the defense here I thought as the game went on a little bit toward the end of that half he missed a couple throws he probably want it back but he's certainly shown why he's in Heisman contention Trevor etn held out of that Clemson game with a suspension last week he's come back in and looked really good I I really like how you know his size he's compact he can run kind of hide behind those big bodies then as soon as he sees some daylight boom has the speed to kick it to the outside I think he's been a well to this offense here today the etn 65 yds two receptions as well well it's a running back room that has so much talent and Carson backck did a really nice job spreading it around throwing the football yeah absolutely that's that's what it's all about spreading around all you guys you have on offense Bulldogs coming back onto the field the defense also pitching a shut out we'll give the Defenders some love when we come back here in aens to start the 2024 season Georgia has played six quarters they've allowed three points a shut out here in the home opener at sford Stadium a beautiful day for football Rocky great crowd and the defense has delivered yeah it's an image you see most of the day a bunch of red jerseys in the frame right and with Tennessee Tech running the ball only passing twice that full half this run defense has had an opportunity to really show what it's worth here the defensive front is deep that defensive line the linebacking court deep eight tackles for loss on 27 plays Glen schuman's unit getting it done that yard per play under two that'll have Kirby Smart and his defensive staff happy it's Georgia ready to return here to start the second half they deferred decided they wanted the ball to start the second half and I think this is a a drive here to open this half that Carson backck is going to want to get get back in rhythm again just uncharacteristically missed a few throws I think they give him some easy completions early on get him back in Rhythm and then let him push the ball down the field a [Music] bit the check in down on the sidelines with Ashley hey Jay well I just caught up with Tennessee Tech head coach coach Bobby Wilder who as you guys know from our conversation always gives a good sound bite I've said hey coach what can you tell me about what you told your guys about that first half he said look I'm proud of us we had a 13-play drive on offense against the number one team in the country our defense also made them take a field goal on one of their drives but in the end he said please make sure you tell Rocky and Jay this is like having a root canal it's painful but afterwards you get up and go back to work good good paycheck attached to the r Canal as well got to take the good with the bad KN right first play from scrimmage in the second half and etn picking up where he left off that's a gain of 13 for the transfer from Florida you just take a look at this Georgia offense we mentioned the four starting offensive lineman that return the running back room has great depth and then you can't win football games if you don't have a great quarterback and they feel like Carson Beck has really emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the country in his Fifth Season here back throwing on first down misses it there and he was in a great Rhythm to start the game completed his first 11 passes but now he's thrown four incompletions in a row Rocky yeah I'm not sure that that the last time that's ever happened I mean again that that's the one thing that really stands out about his game is open receiver ball is is right on the money he's just in a little bit of a funk right now and again I think you just give him a nice easy completion let him get back into Rhythm a bit earlier this week ESPN draft analyst Mel Kyper revealed his top prospects and he had Carson Beck and shador Sanders as 1 a and 1B you take a look at their numbers obviously shador has played a lot more seasons than than Beck has but likely to'd be the top two quarterbacks taken according to Mel Kyper yeah and the question can he win the Heisman I absolutely the question is is he going to have the numbers to do it you know last year Caleb Williams had 41 total touchdowns Jaylen Daniels uh 40 and you know just there was so many great players on this offense you just wonder if he's going to have to have the numbers to be able to win a Heisman third and seven Beck tuck and runs trying to pick it up with his legs and he does needed seven got nine to the 50 not sure that's a shot you want your quarterback taken right there back's tough I think it was a good decision to take it off with the run and picks up the first down Beck went 13 and one last year for Georgia and he said walking off the field after that one loss in the SEC Championship game he knew he was coming back unfinished business here in Georgia pump and go and he's got Aran Smith wide open hits him for a Georgia touchdown longest play of the year for this Georgia offense busted coverage and Beck finds Smith for an easy score and Beck finally able to get another deep ball off this coverage for keny Tech has just been sitting back and keeping everything underneath but it bit on the fake and then Smith with that speed got behind him and be hit [Applause] him M Carson back continuing to deliver Rocky here's a way to get back on track just throw a ball to your guy who runs a 101 and 100 let him run underneath it for the touchdown the dogs up 31 [Music] nothing now during that drive we were talking about Carson Beck and his future at the National Football League and in the Heisman Trophy conversation four touchdowns today Rocky to your point he has to have the stats not just the winning that's prettyy good considering we just kicked off the third quarter exactly I mean here here's a day like today where you can pad those stats a little bit for Carson back on that last drive a couple of Misses early but he hit when it mattered so Jay a lot of offenses including Georgia they run a lot of bubble screens of the perimeters get the ball to your guy in space but what is do is setting up this look two white Defenders go right to the corner there to Dylan Bell and then Here Comes Smith over the top that's what teams do bubble screen bubble screen make your tackle in space make your tackle in space and then the pump fake and then they go down town to Arion Smith that's why those bubble screens that's why you see them so much it's setting up that play 50yd touchdown is the longest play of the year for Georgia Jordan Yates lost the football who's on the bottom of this pile Georgia saying they have it with waiting for the signal and they do what a start to this third quarter for the Bulldogs they connect on a 50 yard touchdown and then Dan Jackson Scoops up the Yates fumble hey Jan Dan Jackson's all over the place and you see a bunch of Defenders then the ball just gets dropped out and nobody punched it out yeah Yates just lost it that's unfortunate ball security that's an unforced air right there for Bobby Wilder's Team sets up a short field for Carson backck in this Georgia offense look at that what a great tradition they have here with those gold pads make a big play getting the crowd pumped up I see you Dan Jackson fifth year senior started on the scout team has worked his way up big time player now is a veteran in this secondary good blocking two flags down though Robinson was inside the five this could be coming back I didn't see in real time where the foul occurred there are two fouls on the play both by the offense holding number 13 offense penalties decline holding number 71 offense penalties 10 yards from the previous spot replay first down so a double hold here let's see yeah middle of your screen there is what they call that 71 Earnest green and then you see actually yeah Drew boobo got a de cleer of a block there but not before a couple holding calls as Robinson took off you just saw Tennessee Tech defensively bodies were flying couple of that on two holds and one clean block there by Bobo so after the holding call First and 20 for Carson Beck in this Georgia offense play action Beck thrs one Lon lucky wide open and he goes in the score another quick strike for Georgia five passing touchdowns today for Carson Beck [Music] he must have heard me Jay say I wonder if he's going to have the stats to win the high ever since boy he's been throwing touchdown passes getting lost and lucky good job little play action rolling to his right you got to love the route combination you get a post and then Lawson come underneath with the corner route wide open for the touchdown Flags before the extra point L game offense 5yd penalty still playing a try I mean some of the the penalties and the sloppiness can't imagine Smart's going to be happy about lucky stays in he lost and Lucky's happy he scored a touchdown stays in on the on the Block coverage here but just scored his first touchdown of the Season Georgia two touchdowns in 33 seconds love how they did this Carson Beck rolls to the right and then Lawson lucky back over the top with the corner R sneaks in the end zone all dogs here in asens 38 [Music] nothing Georgia football is known for their passionate fans while John Cookie's taking it to a new level Bulldog fan from birth his parents Gordon and Frances instilled such a Devotion to the dogs that he attended Georgia and when he graduated he joked with his dad that he was never going to miss another game well 428 games later the streak is intact it started with Georgia Florida in 1990 and John's been to every Georgia game home or away for more than three decades now there he is next to his wife Melanie never leaves a game early same seats for all 200 home games during that streak talk about loyal I have never heard of such a thing I mean you talk about the model the example of loyalty my goodness incredible so we went out and found him tailgating had a great conversation with him and he told me the only flaw in this streak is he has not been able to attend a wedding in 34 years on a Saturday in the fall keep going keep going and one thing Jay did did he give you the the amount on that that's got a so this is section 327 and 328 that's where the season tickets are for the home games this was anniversary photos with Melanie who you see there got in the wedding dress decided to come to the stadium they are Georgia through and through and we were talking with Bulldog's head coach Kirby Smart about John streak which began when Kirby was in seventh grade and he told us that's what makes SEC football special it's ingrained in the family passed from generation to generation so it starts with John's parents and now he's passing it on to his kids and his grandkids said it's just different down here and I don't think you can get a better example of that kind of streak that kind of dedication and you're right think of the weddings and the other events and vacations they may have missed but they love their dogs that is incredible 428 games 34 years no matter where Georgia football's playing he is going to be there and he says the number one question he gets how do you afford all this yeah so he says every year they budget and he's got his Georgia fund and he takes extra coaching and some landscaping jobs and he makes it happen not sure that's the best thing for the for 1 care or the retirement but hey look life's about living man ex make some memories come here to this great stadium with this great University in this football team and enjoy with your family that is exceptional and I think the big key is Melanie in all this it's very understanding wife fairy told me she didn't even grow up a football fan but once you start you dating John it was a non-negotiable that Georgia football was going to be a part of their life yeah definitely have to have a very understanding wife to come to the 428 straight games wow an eligible receiver number four offense was not on the end of the line of scrimmage and went down field penalties declined fourth down so George's Defense Forces another three and out what a Relentless unit yeah just again the the depth the the scheme it's not a vanilla scheme out there number 32 for Geor now 42 it's been a busy day for punt returner Anthony Evans had to return as long as 43 he's got plenty of speed but couldn't break free there good punt coverage by Tennessee Tech as we check in with Ashley down on the sideline well coming out of halftime tight end Oscar Delp came out in tennis shoes his right ankle is taped but he is still very active on the sideline after laws and lucky scored that touchdown he came over picked up the iPad and went over that touchdown with lucky the two spent some time together I I actually asked Oscar I said did you go through it with them and he said yep that's exactly what we were using those iPads for and there you go you know watching it and if most college football fans don't know that is something brand new to the game this year those tablets on the sideline the ability to see video and review plays that happened in the game and Jay we talked to this coaching staff yesterday and they described how people were making a big deal about the helmet to helmet communication this is the bigger deal the the tablets on the sidelines and you take a great coaching staff like they here at Georgia this is going to be a tremendous Advantage for these guys cuz they can break down things very quickly and speaking of the new rules Gunner stocked in into the game so adjusting to them for the first time that Green Dot signals the headset communication that he receives before every play and you to go after this drive and be able to watch back these plays in real time is such an advantage especially for a younger quarterback as you're getting you know your first reps of the Season here and it's the ability to make instant adjustments you know and you used to have to go through maybe you go through a series or two before you you figure out what the other team's doing now you see what what do they do on third down what do they do on the last three you know four third and shorts right you see what they're doing you you kind of tweak your game plan a little bit and this just helps a great coaching step third and four for Stockton fires it right near the first down marker there's the defensive Personnel checking out the iPads over on the Georgia sideline and it takes the resources obviously Georgia has a ton of Staff a ton of coaches this is a well oil machine and it's just a great thing that's only going to help the best get better they're going for it on fourth and one I don't know why that play was blown dead Stockton still had forward momentum and spun out of it he would have been gone I think they blew it thinking it was just a stopped quarterback sneak and he squirts out the other side Kirby Smart not happy about it take another look he's still churning those legs he spins out of that oh man that should have been a live play if I'm Gunner stocking I'm upset cuz that was a touchdown first and 10 it was enough to move the chains on that fourth and one Stockton play action steps up unloads a deep ball and it's dropped Cole Spear and Jameson Wharton just enough to knock it away yeah ball a little bit under thrown off the play action he had a step on the defender and had to come back for it had to come back for it it it's going back to the iPads Rocky the the new technology and the new ruling college football on paper it's the same Advantage for everybody but it's how you use it some teams are going to use it a lot more effectively than others and Kirby Smart has challenged his staff to try and gain those competitive in-game advantages that's exactly what it is and it's just you the caliber of coaches you have have the best coaches in America here at Georgia so they're going to be able to take a tool and use it better than another coach or coaching staff might might be able to do so yeah you know the the rich get richer and it's something that they're going to really really I mean learn more as the season goes on and how to exactly use that thing first and 10 gunar Stockton moving the ball well backup quarterback with his first drive of the game that's Nate Frasier the true freshman from Modern Day Powerhouse high school out in California prolific debut a week ago more than 100 yards on 12 touches against Clemson he's been used sparingly so far today you know that workload gets reduced when you bring someone like Trevor etn into the back field but the thing about you know depth and and especially in the running back room it's really going to help a team like Georgia now in the era of the 12 team playoff where there's more games being played longer season you need to keep some tread on the tires of these guys and and having that amount of depth in the running back room or where ever is really going to help this team Nitro tuckle another true freshman with his first catch in a Georgia uniform you know good teams that don't have good depth I I think are going to be hurt by the 12 team playoff because it's going to be hard to sustain that you may have to win 16 games James and Wharton down in the secondary for Tennessee Tech will step aside Georgia up 38 nothing good day at the office for Carson Beck fifth year senior quarterback five passing touchdowns ties most in programed history along with ston Bennett and seven others he start off with a bang there first pass of the game a touchdown to Dylan Bell then was eaten up Tennessee Tech underneath rolling out and he showed about every facet of a quarterback that you want to see from a high Contender here he capped his day off there with a nice deep ball to Arion Smith he showed he can make every throw on the field so his day is done the backup Gunner Stockton in checks down to Branson Robinson I wouldn't want to tackle Robinson Rocky you're a former linebacker 220 lbs coming out of the back field yeah that's that's tough nice again compact body at 220 lbs runs low to the ground behind those shoulder pads right back to Robinson breaking tackles into the end zone touchdown Bulldogs touchdown [Applause] [Music] [Applause] number 25 is now number 54 Branson Robinson cor scoring the touchdown there coming out of high school top rated running back also a competitive weightlifter he deadlifted 720 lbs and you saw all that size and physicality and strength on that run Rocky well if you're running back there's going to be times where there's going to be unblocked guys you got to break tackle there's one there's two there's three all the way in the endzone incredible balance and you mentioned Jay the strength from you know those weight lifting sessions and power lifting and then just the nimbleness there to stay on his feet it's great stuff I I I couldn't be more impressed I I think you'd be hard up to find a better more complete running back room in the country than they have right here at [Music] Georgia 45 to nothing for Kirby Smart at this number one Georgia team they look every bit the part for a preseason number one feels like they've been number one for long stretches of the Season really since that 2020 season they just found a new gear 40 straight regular season wins their last regular season loss was all the way back November 2020 read and react with Cole cuck and Roman Harper back for another year each week Monday 700 p.m eastern time they'll take a look back at the biggest plays players in games from the weekend season premiere Monday night 7 Eastern on SEC network they'll have plenty of highlights for this game showing on the number one team in the country yeah Cole's going to be happy talking about all the great running and the blocking of the [Music] [Applause] line you could argue and the defense gets a lot of love and deservingly so they've only allowed three points all season but the best individual unit Rocky might be those five up front on the offensive line four returning starters and then you add in Jared Wilson who looks terrif Center yeah it's again as I've been been discussing they just don't have many of those kind of guys you know like an Ernest Green who's 64 320 and can move you know a Jared Wilson who's 63 310 and runs 19 miles hour don't grow on trees and they got a bunch of them here at Georgia it's going to help out a loaded Run game and defensively they're so sound all over the timeout Tennessee Tech that it's hard to pick an individual unit you know is it the linebackers Malachi Starks in the secondary but they come together as an 11 on the field and and just move so well together I think it's a good way to describe it it's like there isn't three separate units out there on D they're all kind of the same deal up around the line scrimmage back and there's that offensive lines you talked about and you know we talked about Carson Beck and his experience being here four years in the program and since 20 20 that goes for offensive line too the more you do something the better you you get at it that's an incredible amount of starts and it goes to the point of iron sharpening iron that Monday through Friday these guys are going at it against each other every single day and practice you hear the stories about how competitive these Georgia practices are when you've got five stars all over the field on defense and offense and going against each other every single day just makes you that much better on [Applause] Saturday Tennessee Tech throwing on first down Jay I want to go back to what you just said we got a flag we'll get the call here real quick personal foul face mask number nine defense 15 yard penalty from the end of the Run but again back to your point about iron sharpen and iron you know in the practices in the competition remember yesterday when we talked to Dominic love it he said you know the the practices are so hard that a lot of times we get out on the game field and we're like man this is easy right this is near as tough as going up against five star talent and some of the best college football players in the world you work at that level in practice you get out of the game and sometimes you just can go let it rip and man luxur [Applause] [Music] [Applause] br [Music] [Applause] snap so many different packages on a third and two sending pressure flipped for the first down Jordan Potts good comp oser to find kby and keep the drive alive a rare pass out of Tennessee Tech haven't seen hard any of these today good job on the boot rolling out guy in the flat that's how you do it and Tennessee Tech now positive passing yards they were ne7 at halftime they're up to 15 through six passes four have been completed back to the running game swallowed [Music] [Music] up KJ Bal fresman still out there getting some reps they're very high on him in the secondary can see why he had a big tackle early in this game coming off the edge tby smart telling us that Balden might even be farther along than Malachi Starks was when he was a true freshman and you see what Starks has turned into another positive play through the passing game couple of flags down as well Jay Parker the catch for Tennessee Tech gain of 25 biggest play of the day for the golden eagles if it stands pass interference number 17 offense 15 y p Le from a previous spot replay second down you see at the bottom of your screen just a push off and before he catches that ball you see the right arm extended out that's what drew the flag when you commit a foul right near the ball all the eyes are looking at [Music] you so what would have been Tennessee Tech's first trip inside the Red Zone it's now second and 24 from the 48 yd line [Applause] hot slings It DJ Lincoln the reception and immediately met by an army of red uniforms the pursuit of the football they get there so quickly rocking that's your typical RPO right there he decides to pull that ball they're block and run all the way but if that outside Defender collapses on the run you hit the slant behind you and that is one of the biggest plays that a reevolution I football I'd say in the last 10 15 years that run pass option you saw it beautifully right [Applause] there third and [Applause] 12 hand it off to Baker no room to run there Ellis Robinson five star number one rated ESPN 300 player of this latest recruiting class in on that tackle getting some playing time here with his Bulldogs up 45 to nothing as a punt pins Georgia inside the 10 as we remind you Tuesday 8 Eastern on SEC network latest episode of True South they're traveling to Austin Texas meeting the locals eating good food and talking about the south of course that includes a lot of college football going to be a great show going down to Austin looking forward to that Tuesday 8 Eastern on SEC network is now Austin joins the SEC footprint still weird to say right I'll tell you what Austin uh definitely on the map in terms of SEC football what they did to Michigan today I think there's a clear Gap and you can say there's a lot of Seasons but this year I think even more so when you see Michigan might not be up to their standard Nate Frasier liing off the field there most wins Texas beating Michigan today moves ahead of Notre Dame Rocky won't like that we're going to get that fact checked right there I'm not sure Texas has one more I'm going to call my people and uh see if my Irish are one behind the Longhorns but uh I mean to your point you know Jay about about Michigan and first of all just tough to win a National Title and then reload and go back to back Georgia seems to do it but it's a hard thing to do Frasier a little banged up you hope he's okay promising freshman running back who had such an incredible debut against Clemson a week ago limited touches today he just hope that that's nothing too serious final play of the third quarter Stockton goes under Center second team offense out there for Georgia nice hole opening up running right through at Chanty Bowens another talented freshman tailback end of the third quarter we head to the fourth quarter in Athens awesome atmosphere first home game of the season between the hedges and it's been all dogs 45 nothing after three [Music] start of the fourth quarter and the fans have plenty to scream and shout and cheer about how about a fifth anniversary meeting does here mean in the stadium Sanford Stadium or he me in Athens or I'm not going to get into it also that's I'll leave that one to you to figure out but uh that'd be a hell of a story of they met actually in the stadium between the hedges you'd have to pull a a Melanie and John cooksie bring your wedding dress and take pictures in your section they they got a long way to go they they to those guys though yeah the fandom is unrivaled you know all across the SEC but especially here in Georgia it's funny how how many couples I mean it's a big part of their marriage Georg of football I was talking to Jim and Brenda Kirk they're celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary today I mean it's all about Georgia football football brings people together right what better nothing like it we just showed a bunch of students in the student section get off your phones you might meet your wife flag down here also we should mention both coaches came together at the end of the third quarter 10 minute fourth quarter instead of 15 holding number 70 offense half this is to the goal replay second down so 45 nothing lead 9 minutes and 20 seconds remaining a Frasier still on the sideline after he took a knock on the previous drive for Georgia this is all about keeping everybody healthy and then all eyes at Kentucky next weekend they're actually not home in Sanford Stadium again until October when Auburn comes here on October 5th only one home game the entire month of September wow sure they love playing this great facility it's a tough slate at Kentucky at Alabama and then Auburn here at home the thing that stands out there Jay is look at those low numbers number four Alabama number three number six think about that you have to play three of the top six teams all on the road in the regular season before you even play in a conference Championship game or a college football playoff you're going to have three games all on the road against the top six and yet their win probability is their favored to win them all crazy it's no secret how how good this program is year in and year out I think we saw the reason for that today how they've performed and that that'll be interesting we were in Oxford a week ago and I'll tell you that's going to be some scene on November 9th both of these teams stay as good as they look yeah you and I were both impressed with Old Miss last week and and they want to for in a blowout but they've added that roster brought in two dozen players mostly all out of the portal including five of the top 60 guys they're going to make a run at it Georgia on their way to 2 and0 a lot of football ahead in this [Music] season well Kirby Smart's not looking ahead he's still focused on the next 7 minutes and 38 seconds but Rocky you and I can look ahead at Georgia next week Saturday 730 Eastern Time on ABC a trip to Kentucky games in Lexington a lot closer than the games against Kentucky that have been played here in Athens that's a tough place to play I've called games in there and I never played there but called games there that's a very rapid fan base tough place to play Mark Stoops gets those guys ready I'm hearing something that you wrote a horse in Lexington once before is this true can you confirm or deny I can confirm that's true we got to get the story a little later in this fourth quarter familar face the Georgia fans will remember the starting quarterback for Kentucky Brock Vandergriff three years at Georgia grew up in Athens went to Prince Avenue right down the road here in Georgia and it just couldn't get on the field you had Carson back in front of you gun Stockton in front of you so transfers to Kentucky boom he wins the starting job well you imagine Brock will be all kinds of fired up that contest next week have to imagine the Georgia Defenders that he went against the last three seasons in practice will be pretty fired up as well yeah I me that's one thing about it he knows everything about this roster and what certain guys are good at what they're bad at and he's going to get that offense pointed in that direction try to exploit some things it's easier said than done though against Georgia Georgia gets into the back field [Applause] again been tough sledding all night long for Tennessee Tech Jordan Thomas with his first career sack you can see why Tennessee Tech has elected not to pass much today because it's just hard for that offensive line to hold up against those big boys up front Jordan Thomas freshman 65 315 look at those guys all fired up for young Jordan Thomas yeah the pride of Don Bosco prep hackin sack New Jersey they send him down south true freshman getting on the field making a big play and now the golden eagles hting out of their own end zone line drive bounces to the 50 yd line that's where Georgia will take over under six minutes left of [Music] this earlier today Georgia honored legendary member of the Georgia Athletic Department Claude Felton spent 45 years serving his Georgia Athletic Department retired in January honored on the field and how about this brand new Press Box and they named it after Claude felt it deservingly so love that picture of Claude and uger and and that is so special because you know Jay those sports information directors that is not an easy job they do a lot for this University on a daily basis don't get near enough credit and for Georgia to honor him with his own his name on a part of the Press Box is is absolutely extraordinary I think it's very very fitting [Music] started in 1979 he might be the only guy in the stadium that's attended more games than John cookie or random fandom who's attended 428 straight Georgia games welld deserved Honor by Georgia the recognize all those years of [Music] service talk about retiring on a high too you you get those two national championships and then get to say cyanara that's a way to go out go out on top after the runner was out of bounds personal foul late hit number 16 defense 15 yard SP of the run first down how many more you think well kby Smart's the head coach of Georgia Rocky I'm putting you on the spot but as long as he's here I I think he's he's always going to be in that top three every single year of of a program a guy that can win it and he's he's been there he's done it you know he has the pedigree at Alabama and of course the standard he's set here they're always going to be in it and I think what's great news for Georgia fans is the playoff expanding really suits Georgia because you take a look at the last seven years kiry smarts team has finished in the top seven of every final AP poll each of the last seven years so for the last seven years they'd be in the playoff every year whereas last year they were left out correct and then combined with what I was saying earlier about their depth and having a deep team you know deep teams you know they can go longer and play more games because they can sustain injuries and we showed you their schedule earlier very challenging those three Road games against top six teams Alabama Texas and all miss so you can lose two of those games and still make the playoff and by the way in my opinion that's the best part about the new 12 team playoff is in years past you lose one game it's likely over you're out of that conversation I've talked a lot about in 2018 Ohio state had an unbelievable team they lose a game at Purdue couple weeks later put 62 points on Michigan had a great team but we're left out of the playoff because that's kind of how it went back then 12 team you can lose two games maybe three and and still find your way in have a have a just happen to have an off day it doesn't kill your season and what's funny is I know teams are going to want that buy you know the the top four teams are Conference champions but I think you want to be five through eight because you get a home game and how awesome is that atmosphere going to be that's true the coaches will tell you no no no no no we don't want to play take the week off take the week off I'm thinking from a fan it'd be great if Athens got to host a college football playoff game this Stadium would be on fire another flag flies in here holding number 64 offense 10 yard penalty from the previous spot replay second down and just one other thing that goes to the the depth that they've created here and in the culture really that Cur smar has created we've been talking about that running back room and how deep it is you don't see that many places you get a guy who's a really good running back and he's number two on the depth chart he's splitting right cuz he wants but but guys want to stay here because of the standard that's set because of what Kirby Smart has built and I think that's I don't think there there's more credit you can give to a guy in a builder of a program than hey guys may be second or third on the dep J they want to stay here now he mentioned lad makoni who was just drafted in the NFL as a guy who spent a year on Scout team before breaking in and there's examples up and down the roster you Cur Martin jok over his coaching Curry's had a million of them where you know you start off behind on the depth chart you work your way up and then your senior season boom your time to shine and you're on to the NFL that's exactly what he did when he was the defensive coordinator for Nick sabbin in Alabama and he's brought that here to Georgia and you made a good point the NFL Scouts don't care when you started playing it's the quality of your play you play one year but if you're the best out there and you're Fant you're going to go to the NFL you don't have to start as a true [Applause] freshman stock to De sides the tuck and run there brings up fourth down gives an opportunity for Payton Woodring to kick a field goal here hasn't had much opportunity they've been scoring too many touchdowns good problem to have yeah before the field goal attempt a Tennessee Tech player injured so we'll step aside New Era a college football and Georgia is going to be a part of it they are in a golden era I mean there's no guarantee that you make that 12 team playoff but if they play like they have to start this season a convincing win against Clemson taking care of business here against Tennessee Tech there's just no doubt in my mind at least that they're going to be a top 12 team yeah I I think they're certainly you know not just in the mix but in the top of the mix field goal good from 31 for Payton Woodring check in on your AP top 10 Georgia obviously at the top taking care of business Texas throttling Michigan uhoh number five Notre D Irish in trouble don't panic be all right nothing Illinois is tough team by the way what he knows about that top 10 all SEC Big 10 and Notre Dame top two conferences in college football no question another Dame I thought was a great win over Texas A&M tough environment I think the college football play playoff is going to follow that suit I think you're going to have obviously your five Conference champions that get included but when it comes to the seven at large if you will I think it's going to be heavy sec in a few Big 10 teams as well and that's kind of the debate is is could there be five SEC teams or five four or five Big 10 teams in that thing uh come close of the Year Notre Dame of course since they don't belong to a conference they can't can't get a first round by then you talk about the Heisman conversation we had Jackson darts impressive performance five touchdowns I think it'll come down to Beck Dart and ERS I think that's a pretty good assumption there I I still like to include Jackson Dart in that mix just because of the wide receivers he has and same thing he's a guy like Beck who's this is his third year as a starter in that same system which is everything when it comes as a quarterback and you know he's going to put up numbers in Lane ke's offense yeah so he'll have the numbers you put up 48 last week so that'll be no problem Carson Beck as we just saw right there thought overall good day now he missed a couple throws that were uncharacteristic of him but uh certainly a guy that uh performed very well [Music] today the defense to hold this shut out running room for Tennessee Tech biggest play of the day although might be coming back there's two flags down think it might have been a face mask on the personal foul face mask defense 15yd penalty added to the end of the run first down all right so the shutout in question number nine F on number nine nice job finding a little crease that was a Defender Justin Rhett out of position on that cut back Georgia trying to hold what would be their eighth shut out under Kirby Smart which is the most in all the college football since 2016 a tough test here because you know Tennessee Tech would would kick the field goal to give them something hey we scored against the number one defense in the country this is going to wind down to the two-minute timeout this is the two-minute timeout Glen schuman's defense trying to hold the shutout up 48 nothing so Kirby Smart Elite head coach always finds ways to challenge his team this is the game within the game forget that it's 48 nothing you got to hold the shutout which would be the eighth shut out since 2016 the most in FBS well I can tell you Jay as a former Defender there is nothing that excites that defensive room like throwing up a goose egg on the board so this is something they want to fight scratching claw to try to get here very similar at the end of the first half when the offense went out onto the field it was 24 nothing but in the final 45 seconds Kirby wanted to see his offense execute and they didn't incomplete pass they went in 24 nothing lead but it's the points in the game where you can get a live challenge that you simulate every day in practice there's an injured Georgia defensive line yeah I mean game experience is is everything you can only do so many things in practice when it's live that's when you get the best work so it's good to get some of these guys some extra work as this game comes to a close here that's Nair Johnson The Freshman from Dublin Georgia 66340 nose tackle a lot of these freshmen that you've seen come into the game in this third and fourth quarter they're playing in a bulldog's uniform for the first time ever and you know how fired up they are to prove that they belong amongst and a very talented room and that's the other thing about the the transfer portal Jay is you got to show you belong you got to show you can play because you the day and age of all right well we're just kind of see how guys devel if you don't play you don't develop well they'll find somebody they'll bring in five new guys in your room and so you have to play you have to play well or else they're going to find somebody in that portal and bring them in and that's all she wrote see on the left side of your screen getting double teamed and sure what happened there let's hope he's okay ha to l a guy late in a game like this Tennessee Tech trying to leave Athens with something on the [Applause] scoreboard big hit there Tyron Jones red shirt fresh but safety laid the boom there feel that one up here in the booth good stuff good run good tackle [Music] [Applause] back to Aiden Litt he's taken down in the back field lost of two that's what Georgia needs if they want to secure the shut out some negative yards plays tackles for loss great job by Cole that's their 10th tfl of the day wow C The Freshman from Salem Virginia his first tackle in a bulldog uniform another five-star linebacker coming in that linebacker room here at Georgia sent a lot of guys to the NFL they've pretty much done it at every single [Applause] position back to littes and another big hit it's Kiron Jones again looks like we have him miked up or something yeah really K Jones flying out that secondary nothing defensive coach likes more on those in the secondary Corner safey come flying up 20 seconds left are they just going to run this down and kick a field goal that would be my guess yeah I think that's what Bobby Wilder is going to do [Music] here second charge timeout Tennessee Tech 30 second timeout this is Hayden Olen the senior kicker he's a Georgia na native oh wow that's cool Buford High School here in the state of Georgia 68% career long of [Music] 54 will Georgia preserve the shutout or Will Hayden Olen and Tennessee Tech ruin it as time expires after imagine George is going to come after this thing right sell out look at Kirby Smart just coached him up as as if the you know the SEC Championship is on the line right now I love it he only knows one way and I love that way oh yeah look at this here we go see if they sell out and come get this thing olon the Lefty to end the shut out and he does so Tennessee Tech leades with something but Georgia 45o win and the dogs have still not allowed a touchdown through two games just a field goal allowed to Clemson and a field goal allowed to Tennessee Tech yeah that's impressive I don't care who you play to not give up a touchdown and how complex offenses are these days that's Quite a feat for an incredible unit they have here that Georgia defense let's not forget about the offense and their ability to put points on the board and that guy was responsible for most of it Carson back started things off right out of the gate hot with the touchdown and then another touch down underneath just his ability to spread the ball around to different wide receivers you know was able to lean on that run game I thought that really helped him out Jay abity to get some good yards on the ground as we mentioned he was a little inaccurate at times there in the third quarter but then he wind up capping it off with a nice deep ball for a touchdown to Arion Smith lawon lucky he wasn't done he got the tight end involved so Carson back seven passing touchdowns on the season five today no interceptions and he's standing by with Ashley well Carson you share with me ahead of this matchup a goal for the offense was getting off to a fast start you guys accomplished that today what allowed you to do so yeah absolutely I mean when you come out defense comes three and out get a good stop get a really good punt return uh super short field went ahead and took a shot at the end zone uh I'd say that's a pretty fast start so no I thought I thought it was really good team overall effort and then obviously we punched it in the end zone you were able to connect with a a lot of targets on offense what did you learn about your team today well yeah I think I mean you go back back all the way to Spring football and just learning about our team overall through fall Camp through the summer workouts um just building that chemistry with everyone I think we have so much talent on the offensive side of the ball and I think that really showed today you have Kentucky next week what will you look to improve on from today's game as you head into that game next week yeah I think um we'll go back we'll watch the film I mean just off the top of my head without watching film I just think the consistency of certain things you know making sure I'm in the right place of the ball making the right decisions um and then you know we'll move on to next week after we watch the film all right Carson appreciate the time congrats on the win awesome thank you so much now Georgia picked up right where they left off last week in Atlanta they've come home between the hedges to Athens still haven't allowed a touchdown and they rolled to a 48-3 victory in the home opener here at Sanford Stadium terrific beautiful day for football atmosphere was awesome Rocky boyman Ashley strine I'm Jay alter say so long from happens [Music]
