The FMU Rattlers are coming off their best season ever going 12 and one and winning the Celebration bowl claiming its 16th H BC U national championship. The goal for the Rattlers is to repeat as national champions. Sharani joins us with some of the major changes this off season that could affect the quest for that repeat. Often when a team brings in a new head coach, the program is having some bad times or going through a rebuild. But for the FMU Rattlers, they're coming off of an H BC U National championship, but now have a new head coach at the helm as Willie Simmons left the program to pursue coaching at the power five level. So in steps, James Cosey the third who takes over the reins in a very unique situation. Coach Simmons was the head coach and he's also our office coordinator. So and they also our quarterback coach. So, you know, listen and we, we knew we had our hands full as far as trying to replace him. Do I have a few wrinkles that I might be doing a little bit differently from coach Simmons? But yes, but in overall, the structures there, Coach Simmons provided the blueprint, you know, I'm just happy to be the one that's, you know, leading this ship right now with a bunch of great players. Not only did the Rattlers lose the 2023 Southwester athletic conference coach of the year, but are also having to replace the swack offensive and defensive players of the year. We're motivated just to prove, we still got it like we lost a lot of guys, but everybody feel like the replacements, we got a match up to that. So we just want to show everybody that we still here. It's no drop off. A lot of predictions got us finishing later than first and all that. So, I mean, we got a lot to prove to help replace those missing pieces. The rat signed 32 transfers this off season with 28 of them coming from the F BS including new starting quarterback Daniel Richardson. It's good for us as a team because we know these guys know what it takes to win, especially with them being transfers and older guys. So it's like you don't necessarily have to teach him how to work hard. You just got to show him the culture that we got built and hopefully he can follow it along as the defending H BC U national champions, head coach James Cosey, the third knows every team they face will bring their a game. But also the FMU faithful won't be shy in voicing their expectations. I often wonder how our new guys, you know, that have come to the program. They don't necessarily understand the passion that our fans have. Florida A and M football. I'm anxious to see what our fans are gonna do and what they're gonna show our newer players about what fan football is all about. The Rattlers started off their new era under head coach James Cosey the third with a bang taking down Norfolk State 24 to 23 in the season opener. They will look to move to two and O as they host South Carolina State for their home opener on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
