at a golf course rooted in history another chapter has officially been added at the 2024 AIG Women's Open so with the best of the world teeing it up this week only one could Hoist the trophy and let me tell you it was well worth the wait I'm hope Arnette and you're watching LPGA now presented by Surf Pro let's get into it from low am in 2013 to hoisting the trophy in 20124 at the home of golf Lydia Co is defying odds week in and week out fortunate enough to play here as an amateur in 2013 When Stacy won and know I would have never imagine that 11 years later I would be uh in her shoes and especially with Stacy being somebody that I really respect and um you know I really look up to it's I think this makes it extra special just two weeks ago she completed her Olympics Trifecta with the gold medal and if that didn't already seem like a fairy tale it gets better that metal clinched her spot into the LPGA Hall of Fame Olympic gold medal in the summer the pre the previous two major championships and now this where does this one say it's kind of like saying do you like your mother better or your father better um uh it's uh you know they're uh all special in its own ways I said you know even the silver and the bronze uh were some of the biggest highlights of my career she started the day three back from the lead and had two attainable goals in mind mind I had two goals going into today par making a par on 11 and Birdie the 18th and I accomplished both um so I was just more excited that you know I had those two small wins for the day her front nine started out slow but she remained steady with her first Birdie on the 4th and there's no doubt that Sunday presented the most challenging weather all week but nothing could stop Lydia Co on Sunday she made the turn and rolled in this birdie putt on and another one on 14 this put her one back from the lead as the day went on everyone had their eyes set on Nelly Corda and Lil AV Vu they were braving the conditions and putting up their best fight out there she's got another but playing a few groups in front of them staying patient was Lydia and she stepped up to the 18th hole and had that one goal in the back of her mind and little did she know that Birdie on 18 would get her the wit what a partt could expect nothing else from a champion like Lydia she set set the mark for the rest to try and catch to force a playoff the defending champ Lilia needed to make this putt so with that Lydia was made a three-time major champion at the AIG Women's Open with her husband and family by her side she walked over the swilken bridge one more time between the elements the venue and the champion this week was nothing short of iconic so thanks so much for following along and be sure to tune in every single week
