'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' Cast on the Return of Sauron in Season 2

when you read of the Rings of power and the a calbath it's like the first big thing which is like oh this is what happens in this time period you know it's K blanchet's monologue from Fellowship of the Ring in place of a dark lord you would have a queen not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Bor treacherous as the sea stronger the foundations of the earth All Shall love we understand it's shaping up to be you know the big Sauron return Season so I want to ask what aspect of his return were you most excited to explore um this time around well you know roll up my sleeves here um it took a lot of discipline to keep the Jack in the Box season one uh uh but we knew coming into season two we would have the benefit of the jack is out and he's you know affecting character in every world in in a different way but I think the core of that is this relationship with him and Kell bmore sauron's plan for world domination requires that he use rings of power and distribute them uh but he cannot make them without the Elvin Da Vinci Kell bmore and so that creates this incredible you know almost psychological Thriller between the two of them this is hardly a g what have you done to me what have you done to me who are you getting to reveal the anotar character was very special getting to help develop that look I could not picture Charlie vicker's handsome Hall brand in a blonde you know thing and then he put it on and it was it was amazing he could have walked past me on the street and I would have you know wouldn't have recognized very lucky we're very lucky and and I I will always really sort of cherish that it was very special to absolutely yeah I was thrilled by the idea cuz we didn't know for sure if we were going to do the anatar thing and when I found out that we were going to do it I was just so excited because wasn't a lock when we found out we were doing this show um we knew it would come here in some capacity but for the story to be told so closely to the cannon was really thrilling yeah it was the moment that the name anatar was confirmed as being able to be used I think that's correct isn't it yeah exactly he gains the ability to sculpt their very thoughts well we have to kind of we have a pretty antagonistic relationship ourselves try and yeah put that on the back burner while we deal with this the threat of Sauron yeah which is which is no easy thing so we yeah exploring the possibility of begrudgingly yeah we have to talk they've both got wounds from Sauron and they'll have them forever and so whatever they do Sauron is kind of not making them do what they do but he's part of it yeah he has wles enjoy that yeah and they both know that too they both know that they're compromised and so that's quite interesting seeing these characters who have nothing in common in some ways apart from one of the worst things ever happened to them sooner or later sauron's eye BS a hole the rest of him slith Us in I feel like the stranger although he might not fully comprehend what Sauron means um I think he can feel it under his feet you know I think he he gets vibrations through the world and through the air and he picks up on those and they unsettle him I think he knows from sort of episode 7 season 1 where the you know the the volcanoes exploded he he feels this uh this this Darkness moving in and and I think it sets him on edge and and causes him to make some decisions that he might regret and he you know I think it he causes some Panic where where you know somebody who's been around for a bit longer might have some experience but he he doesn't so yeah it's tough for him I think at least F Nori whenever soon as she met the stranger she there was something kind of in their eyes that they shared like a similar fear that she recognized and I think in season 2 particularly she feels that from The Stranger as well that there is an undercurrent of Darkness that is kind of permeating um the air and and seeing as well the stores and how the stores have reacted and how they live their lives and and what they tell Nori and Poppy about what's been happening in their Community it very much uh highlights this rise Riz the the there are always some who rise forth they must be destroyed we will discuss the Rings once you have answered the question who is this man we find him we're abandoning Middle Earth We're abandoning our basically not sound arrogant but our children that we have tasked ourselves with protecting and we have to give up which is incredibly painful it's uh but at the same time you've heard me say that a bunch of times but there there's the Elish word gra which is like a crap um be the polite way to say it um I think there's a lot of that going on because this was so on one hand the resurrection of evil is inevitable but on the other hand this moment was so avoidable and uh in spite of our experience and wisdom we didn't told you so kind of thing you know because I mean you see from the the first episode of the first season as well I mean sniffs sniffs sniffs this from Miles Away quite literally he feels a shift the Earth in in in in plants in the animals and and had the elves the higher elves been concerned a little bit more with staying connected to what our roots are in terms of our Dynamics with nature and all these things they would have also noticed you know I was a singular elf that could see it just in the changing of a leaf that I would say gilgalad and AR do tend to they have these parallel parallel Journeys that the more that we speak the more that we see that also we we are talking about certain things and people are not paying attention to us yeah for quite time yeah we should run this show thank you guys abely you will give me the nigh that me [Music]
