[Music] that is a tail all right thanks the docks are going to have to bring that pressure tonight because if you allow hawthorne to control the ball we know the damage that they can do interestingly enough though last week they had 60 more uncontested marks and still lost the game that's rare for them if the dogs can put pressure on tonight and get it a lot lower than that then they're right in this contest and i think the dogs will bring it they bring it most weeks but it's gonna have to be like the west coast eagles pressure last week to beat this hawthorne team here tonight yeah absolutely richo summed it up beautifully there for the hawks just watched this start for the hawthorne football club and watch out for the usual suspects luke hodge jordan lewis sean burgoyne all these players they will be ferocious in their start of the game eastern wood he's revving his players up he'd be saying the exact same thing hawthorne are going to come at us we need to make sure that we hunt them the hawks the risk is for the western bulldogs that they're able to get that ferocious start and they're able to pile a few goals on and put that pressure back on the bulldogs the bulldogs on the other hand if they can play like they played last thursday night we are going to have one of the hottest starts to a game we've seen in a long time duck as a player this is the best moment right here right now going out to positions that nervous energy so many question marks am i going to get an early touch do i need an early touch how are we going to start all of those question marks that nervous energy going through your body right now as a player is what i played footy for it's what i loved and they're all feeling that right now i know about you dennis but i'm excited me too when it goes on where's it goes high happening bounce at the mcg rough head up very high bond and pele rough head liberatore hurriedly floats it still inside the center square virtual comes up and takes the mark plays on immediately chips it out wide yeah going short of the wing just jabs it forward awkward half follic ganston knew where the help was done by daniel morris off balance liberatore again in the action dunkley over the top dixon dalhouse off balance dixon again picking head to white that was a very good hand pass boyd looks towards the middle it's two on one smith has got it three on two now smith under pressure hooks it back marked by giray that's great handballing again by the bulldogs i think that the best in the competition at those quick hands hawthorne will putting pressure on still able to release you mate so jared from that goalscorer good mark to mcavoy saw his little baby in the lift coming up mcavoy just three weeks old he's a little boy so it's been a big month for ben [Music] i'd love a goal or two out of him tonight so and that's important there the western bulldogs just cutting off that uncontested mark there for luke hodge it's exactly what richo just spoke about deny hawthorne the ability to control the tempo of the game good start by the bulldogs i know it's early but good positive signs mcavoy had it momentarily liberator setting the standard yeah is going to play on mitchell around these stoppages we saw him doing a similar role last week in perth he's going to play on him around these stoppages roughhead getting high again quantum pilly controlled it brilliantly boyd back inside the forward 50 dunkley unkind bounce bruce gets back in trouble stripped of the football play goes on fry from the crowded ball nothing doing ball up instead slacking tries to get in smith squeezes out hawks have come out just a little cold i reckon right now i mean it is so early isn't it but not much body on body from hawthorn so far we always try and read the signs really early on to see which team is right on i'm not saying hawthorne's not on but it just looks like bulldogs a bit sharper bit cleaner though jordan lewis gets them going there just smith and then smith hooksett to pop here just nine goals in his last igbo boy was so silky there wasn't he and got it to louis it gets to smith it's been so good at running and carrying that's what he does down the line gunston in a one-on-one handling with him and that ball now in dispute just talk about players being claimed how sharp was this what about this just almost matches it with that [Applause] tossed up two on one there two dogs up bottom belly didn't connect liberatore did a blitzing start by him thankfully gets on the end of it his thunderbolts right half forward dunkley looks inside the forward 50 boyd on a searching lead through ally over the top dalhouse the crumb hard against the boundary light and pulls it back dixon in best position gets a free kick tory dixon 20 minutes out their most accurate kick this was clever by dixon wasn't a duck he initiated the contact very clever knew exactly what he was doing knew if he came forward he was going to get the shepherd call you see there he knows if he goes back and tries to protect the space virtual gets back to put the pressure on and gets a fist into that that's a wily forward no challenge here and he comes dixon so much for no challenge here well he's uh he's their best shot for goal what about the passion from the crowd a moment ago he's missed the shot i know but oh that's a shank isn't it so hodge in that back pocket so for all the bulldogs good play it's one behind or nothing right now so hawthorne have basically been in their back 50 for most of this first quarter so far bruce that's a well-timed handball and then burgoyne that's an even better one to show and make as they go forward for the first real time poor kick morris cuts it off good switch good pressure by the bulldogs there to make sure that ball was turned over picking's so important last time daniel takes a brilliant mark squares to his captain back to suckling one of nineteen horrible premiership players out there but he's in the other jumper kicks to center half four dickson good stringer runs for gortner coughs it up sicily he also runs the gauntlet and then belts the ball to space he wants to buy a bit of time here cycling backs off handling back to shuttling right at the interchange gates since it insane the forward 50 boyd needs to get it on the deck he tried to spoil got a fist in there hunter knocks it towards goal daniel coming off a pb last week 35 possessions against the eagles but this kick not the bear stop them floats out of bounds on the floor bruce you said it bulldogs have had the domination five inside 50s to zero 86 in their fourth half but only one behind a show for it hawthorne just holding up well enough see if they can break through they might even go coast to coast that's always the danger bit of rope a dope lingerie early for the hawks just sort of absorbing it aren't they but targets missed i mean even burgoyne in that first minute that half volley that gunston had to take and the turnover we saw another one there so it is so early in this match it'll build and build and build a fantastic crowd in looks well over seventy thousand so fitzpatrick and boyd lewis and mitchell fitzpatrick and mitchell again so mitchell down that line a bit of hanging on morris versus bruce good match up there so schultz had vanished after they get in here johannesson and also in a couple of speeches hunter goes back to hambling hambling in the back half now then he's there tough break for the hawk smith pranks it forward goes after it now this will be an interesting call it's against the bulldog it's patrick to mitchell getting involved now after the early burst from liberator shields to half forward his hill hot against the boundary line 75 minutes out from goal dogs by the only score of the game of behind behind the pack is sicily he can find a way through no yes we'll saw it off he's kicked the goal well done by sicily couldn't break the tackle but the presence of mind to throw it on the boat [Music] and that's the killer that lingi was talking about oh that's what they've been so good at for so long they can be dominated and they've just got a knack of going forward and getting that goal against the flow they've done it again shallow entry a second ago when a goal [Applause] james sicily here just read this well had the mark but chose to play on nearly broke the tackle but still had the strength to get the kick off and get hawthorne on the board so licking last goal against the dogs in round three in the first goal tonight in the final course he kicked that match winner the bob murphy moment hodge building it forward rioli would have been a great mark couldn't quite know he's going to make the ball try and talk to him he does something we really see fell over but he picks himself up and then coughs it up so cyril had three little moments there that weren't perfect wood gets it out wider talked about picking how important he was in that opening term last week nabbed a goal when they needed one and he took a two or three contested marks against the flow well close to the boundary line mitchell surrounded by dogs dug it out brilliantly stratton feeds it forward burgoyne inside the fall at 50 sicily a chance to kick his second and just moments ago rioli running with hamling that's interesting yeah joel hamlin got caught on him dennis you're right match up for the hawks i would have thought just again the ability for the hawthorne players to win the ball in the contest and the class of sean burgoyne lower his eyes hit up james sicily perfect start could be for the man who was the late withdrawal last week just a couple of entries inside their forward 50 and they're making them count although this one just goes wide right sicily has their entire score they lead by six approaching halfway in this opening term it's gone very quickly it's been tough uncompromising football just what we expected dennis a long way away from isaac smith's shot but it was about the same spot different foot i know and drifted to the same area so well done there by smith and dao how some bonds and belly to maclean and that's a beautiful kick well well done at the back by 40. i thought it was all the way for picking and now jerry how good was frawley then last man standing in sicily everywhere for the minute that's a brilliant kick through the center they're bouncing here now hawthorne smith the shields burgoyne a lot of the ball early he gets the ball over the back absolutely can i say it cinnamon a perfect goal against them i figure it's so close to the end that i can pitch one or two now and the other one at the other way was almost that's just absolutely brilliant to stop it at one end and then go from coast to coast that's brilliant that's why they've won three in a row and this is what they did to adelaide last year they were eight goals to two at quarter time this is the problem well how good was this it's we thought it was a certain goal frauley that is just desperation to get that in and then that causes this at the other end coast to coast just a perfect kick to space for gunston a moment of magic from james frawley mitchell couldn't find a way through but craig went to ground fitzpatrick couldn't dig it out of there through the legs of bond and peli rip you up a low tie it up and we'll get a ball up thanks josh sounding like dr phil well battled it was indeed as it expected rough roughhead goes up pumps it down and there was gibson half chance for daniel spills wide of the pack hurriedly by mclean kicks inside the forward 50. caught he was thinking about the socket that he picked it up hunter they all ran past him as a result he prods it to the pocket kept his head that was cool football and dixon now a chance to make amends no prediction from me well he's had a side up and the nerves should be gone by now i'm not sure this was uh 15. you can see there luke hodge didn't think it was 15 either but this guy generally is a beautiful set shot for goal having said that inside it was a joke right behind him dogs could do with this and he misses to the right this time well normally a dead idick hodge has a bit to say just mocking him like the russian judge he was 81 from set shot since 2014 before tonight is that nerves it is nerves yeah for somebody who's such a good kick especially his first one they need that first goal just to settle them down a little bit now they can't get to quarter time and be six goals to one down and need that goal to settle their nerves gee shields did well and then he'll well last year it was eight goals to two a quarter time in this corresponding match that's that is it has to be 81 since 2014 from set shots it tells you that's probably the best in the competition so mcavoy and rough head of course there was hodge that went forward last year the big surprise against adelaide wasn't it not so tonight so the next goal you feel vital here remember west coast lead two goals to zero against the bulldogs not dissimilar to all of this with a turnover or two after the bulldogs are dominated early there and then picking was able to get their opener mitchell got it from shields arches is back breaks the line good handball to poppy poppy comes inside and then floats a scrub at a full forward handling got a bit on it hill running hard biggs gets hold of him gets him down and wins a free kick good chase by biggs plays on immediately here's dixon mark's in the back pocket now he does this he gets back to help could have helped more and he kicked straight on still get a dangerous terrific forward for them this kicks short of the wing coming back in front white cross ball spills wide taken by dunkley hard against the boundary kicks it down towards half thought the hawks with two on one missing the mark in front stratton and the pack fell over liberator swerves hand passes to hunter other inside the forward fifty he misses [Applause] set up for a waking left foot but it was a rather tentative kick he missed it give me last week didn't he early hunter and it is nerves now and it's starting to spread a little bit through the team we've spoken a bit about that round three game when hawthorne won it by three points it was the set shot goal kicking that cost them then the western bulldogs the hawks went 11-3 the dogs five goals seven in that game stratton to bruce they're on here burger going normally good with ball in hand he just pops it pops it showing makers has some time still has some time sweeps to handle fits patrick interesting choice poppy misses so hawthorne blow a chance there i guess the burglaring kick just wasn't quite perfect was it for showing makers bruce the worry is twice we've seen defensive 50 to 450 carry from hawthorne kick mark we didn't see that at all over in perth last week from the eagles the wider ground here it is easier to get through point to himself then straight down the middle rough head was up didn't complete the mark taken down hard tongue big scramble umpire lets them play the ball has moved but it's not going anywhere held up his dunkley straight back just wonder if hawthorne had been aware that western bulldogs played twice at subiaco once at simmons stadium recently skinny grounds re-holy dangerous kick downwards full forward easton wood leads in the race burgoyne very dismissive with a push so hennison got in there handling tries to beat a tackle just in the nick of time got to boyd to wood daniel nicely done he plays tall for absolute doesn't he i mean that was a terrific mark the kick down the line well he's my height so i can say that then fontaine kelly oh hi hawthorne shields shields chills and quickly off the step so big wins so much of the ball in this opening term and a fair bit of it in this spot and he goes down the line beautiful kicking rioli duck it's in with rioli in the last two years he's become a marking forward 28 goals this year from set shots out of 46 last year's similar numbers you go back to the player does he go short and that's well again probably a strange choice in the end anyway it's become a marking four we might go back to that in a moment as the dogs try and get out of this and they find the boundary line well there's no doubt they're looking for him as that marking forward and he's making those positions for them to go to him he is so good above his head very rarely gets out marked and very rarely makes a mistake like that given he's arguably up there with dixon as the best set shot in the game boundary throw in hodge third man up thumps it inside the 50. gunston drag down door spills out of bounds saw luke beveridge moments ago spent two seasons coaching many of these hawthorne defenders this time with the hawks under that man mr clarkson what a remarkable record knocked in front louis so good last week showing makers now smith hooking it back this is more difficult that kick than the one he had after the siren last week didn't miss by much [Applause] so a couple of goals in there [Applause] johannesson wants it back from boyd and boyd one of the two dogs that were in the all australian team this year forks only had the one here kick away really [Applause] well to all australians colliding there rioli and boyd and rioli coming off much the better well that closing speed is just unbelievable boyd such an experienced player he knew it was really but just didn't obviously think he was as quick as he is just so he was caught in the bright lights almost wasn't it so poppy who hasn't been hitting the scoreboard of like nine goals in his last nine but he gets it home and they leave by three but does he what's going on here i believe it's a goal i just like to check it didn't hit the goalpost score review um can you please confirm review underway [Applause] [Music] see if it hasn't review complete confirmed goal so they need three well i guess the only decision that they could that was inconclusive i mean that could have slightly sneaked not quite if it hasn't healed it hasn't missed it by much as close as you get it wasn't a convincing kick one way or the other wasn't [Applause] this is why he's the best 15 possession player in the competition because that there is worth three possessions and after the ultimate post-mortem hawthorne lead by 18 we're back in the middle boyd we need something at the moment a catalyst for them mccrae had the ball taken down dalhouse kicks it out wide white cross almost he's going to get a free kick i think he's paid the mark juggled it a couple of times and that was good enough time back on play on a really good back end of the season white cross goes out wide gibson white cross again guess the distance this time his side on top smith got a hand to it rolls free at the back boyd on his knees suckling dale house boy back to dalhous and he did it again holding the ball [Applause] down on the mark is out 50 minutes from goal taken back he thinks he can get the trip he did in sydney this year didn't he he did right on his distance dazzling speed 48 pressure even in third pressure in that area when you know he's lurking tremendous have to be aware forces quick decisions rioli's kick has it got the carry no what happens now with those bulldog defenders they now get rid of the ball just that little bit quicker than what they normally would because of cyril rioli what he's done in the last two minutes handling just high so they just lost their rhythm for the minute the doggies mclean gets it out mccrae low to hunter another of the lefties that's neat enough to bontempelly he looked lively very early didn't he they have to get the next one it's early but uh it'll be a big big lead by hawthorne if they don't kickstar center half forward mcavoy got back rafi did pretty well he was against a couple and he's not going anywhere and it'll be a stoppage inside the ford 50. and they need that next one more for their own headspace just the little voices start getting louder as the champs keep kicking goals and they don't kick any [Applause] boyd number the braturae chopped off by virtual mcavoy under the arms of corey emerging with it mclean now dunkley in two mines well that's an intelligent kicker he meant it i think he did not sure he could have spotted easton wood there he just kicked it to space and wood pushing up has taken the mark well the acting captain needs a goal here yeah i think he might have been looking for dixon it was a clever kick you see there looks inside and knows that he's kicking it to the advantage of dixon but wood approaching quarter time eastern wood normally a reliable kick and he comes gently on its way and it's good it's been a long time coming a lot of support for the bulldogs tonight [Applause] significant perth can they bring it from here it's good when the captain does that it feels even better when the skipper does that acting or not acting that was huge [Applause] it's a big kick from the acting captain tonight and look at the supporters of bulldog supporters they knew how important that kick was so a couple of goals in it only now mcavoy wins that tap lewis searching for it dalhouse brilliantly beats him to it and then gets the ball about 35 meters forward hodge in the right spot belts it away dunkley's been important early as he was last week scrubbers one forward fraud he got a kind bounce tomboy can't really pressure him florida gets the ball back towards the center wing [Applause] bulldogs suckling the x pork let's watch it with the national anthem when suttling was looking at hawthorne i was wondering if he's thinking why then why then the old foe or the old mates anyway he started okay that familiar kicking style gets into a very hot spot stringer got pushed out of [Applause] [Music] [Applause] to the pocket smith just over three minutes remaining till quarter time runs around the boundary very high ball to the outer side hamling works in front takes bulldogs bulldogs playing tonight who's played in a winning team against hawthorne that's a remarkable step morrison picking the other two as he drives it inside the forward 50. big pack at the drop nobody touched it giray at the back gathers well done by stringer arrived quickly and checked it off the boot and that's how jake stringer gets himself back into top form just little things like this you can work your way back into a game a couple of those little efforts and all of a sudden you find yourself on the end of a ball and you kick a goal that's how he's got to do it watch can't get through [Applause] it's been a good response by the bulldogs here mcavoy probably won it who not quite squeezed out anywhere at the moment might have to go again florida getting the strongest tackle on now smith does get a bid on it johannesson towards the fence did welder daniel and daniel take it over the line by rioli a couple of pocket rockets there what a fine fine season daniel has had he's been a revelation hasn't he the runner up the rising star and the contrast for the two rising stars mules are such a disappointing week for him last week and for daniel he's on such a high and paul again not coming out in the stoppage daniel runner up to callum mills we've all loved the way he's gone about his footy hawks leaded by 12 then approaching quarter time roughing up very high now they've got two blokes there bulldogs [Music] [Applause] i must have missed a couple in there i thought there were more dogs than hawks this kicked down once boyd launched himself spills white of the pack after it goes hill missed it comes back to him like an obedient dog he kicks it though towards the teammate well getting in there with stringer and now the heat comes on crawly in that pack and we'll get a ball up haven't called hodge's name too often he's in there as well crawley did some magnificent work earlier in all australian and bygone years tapped down by mcavoy charging him there is dale house what a player he is what a player he's become we'll get the ball up too brad hill's cold i reckon a moment ago here he was lucky they didn't get a goal off a mistake by him [Applause] he just fumbled it and then i thought almost didn't dispose of the ball correctly two could have been holding the footy against him 20 meters from the doggies goal stringer doing some of the heavy lifting ball not quite out he'll did okay there to get across the pick well done tom boyd on lewis and a ball up so they're really well battled applying the heat here the bulldogs [Applause] trying to suffocate hawthorn here in their back half not giving them any room at all to move hard to kick a goal here though with this number of players around the stoppage we need players to work for each other create a little bit of space maybe block as well rough head again gets his own ball and missed it liberator goes after it smith a half chance now mccrae knew where the hell was they've almost thought to get there though stringer tackled immediately by cecily burrowing in is the skipper of the hawks in the opposite direction they tied up another ball up just over a minute remaining sicily had a couple of chances early got one of them [Music] he gets cut a bit too doesn't he everyone looks at hodgy when you hear the blood rule but he's okay at the moment not a spot plenty of time so many players leaning in and around the footy as you said this is where they'll look for that third man up they'll try to get it outside these plays here it is now to do just that duck not quite getting it out though mitchell just toe poked it to the advantage of shields mclean's a good shot he's gold that's big really big was it touched [Applause] [Music] was touched it's a sharp shooter mclean bulldogs better be aware of you guys please hold the ball [Music] into the middle so we're about to find out so reviews on here empire saying they do a review anyway review complete the score is behind the ball was touched so a big big turn around here so they haven't set up here the bulldogs for their zone so the players now and he's deflating though you're right they've got to get set up now they've got to move on from this really quickly and make sure hawthorne can't move the ball with a minute to go in this quarter and kick it go joel who's the crowd drives it out of that back pocket short of the wing cecily launches himself to cross the boundary line by a dog and it's going to be a boundary throw in one of two could have punched it out of bounds there i think it was boyd who did the business clock stops at 49 seconds throwing in boyd wrestling with fitzpatrick fitzpatrick won it ponton pelly did well boy matthew goes with the outside of the boot close to the boundary line mclean almost the mark spilt it out stratton just puts his legs across the footy and the umpire will ball it up busy beverage late in this term [Applause] [Applause] you were so good at that and then fix it himself but well done by picking dow house blonde to pity so clean there and gets it to mcrae on the wrong side for him kicks back to full forward hodge in the front spot as dinner said he hasn't done a lot of the ball but he's had a good minute hockey hasn't he that was interesting too and straighten the scene on the ball suddenly he made a very quick recovery didn't he his feet raced away after holding things up for about 15 seconds [Applause] he came onto the mark you've got to stay behind so this is the sharpening on the mark we've seen a lot of both these teams do it but no one does it as much as hawthorn so hodge to put the ball into quarter time so the crowd getting right behind the dogs here the hawks got the feel with the contested possession and they looked by far the better team on the outside when they wanted at the cold face the dogs have to have a big win in contested footy tonight to win this game they started to do that towards the end of that quarter not surprisingly they were right in the contest for that last five minutes lee matthews lee just from a coaching point of view right at quarter time how are you seeing the match well i think hawthorne so buddha's got the jump early but they just missed the shots the scoreboard is the thing that matters the most and they missed the shots uh then hawthorne controlled the middle part of the quarter and riola's influence was just outstanding but i think what luke beverly should be saying to his bulldogs is persevere they're they are really in this game they got field position 30 tackles to hawk on 25 to bulldogs that shows you how much congested play there is and hawthorne's goals have come from really coming out of that congestion a few times the bulldogs fans from fed square tonight the mercurial one and cam smith next to him so there or there's cam smith i should say so g from everywhere right this game attracting the very best footballers of all codes started the second term then hawks leave it by 11 the umpires tonight donald stebik and nichols mcavoy bandaged up now knocked it down towards mitchell tries to feed it out rough it a half chance hodge lost it bond and belly across his bow picking on the way down cycling did he have the football boy run down but not before he got a hand pass under wood behind biggs as a result hill swoops on it runs towards half forward into the path of reality that's a clever market he runs on five minutes out picks a goal good kick wonderful balance [Applause] that was a mighty fine kick by hill rioli probably thought it was just a meter short so he had to check his run and did that well enough to take the mark under really hot opposition marvelous scoring from turnovers is the king for the hawks it was the difference in their round three game between these two teams and again they capitalize it on it cyril really kicking the easiest of goal luke beveridge got to the coach's box late from the quarter time break he wouldn't have been happy watching that replay bonten pelle gets it from liver that's a terrific smother by hodge and then mitchell so hawthorne getting it forward again really tapping it down getting back boyd to morris the old fur mate they were part of those three consecutive putin finals a few years back birchall cuts it off that brilliant reality mark of course and the hill kick because eastern woods handle was just too hot for biggs wasn't it so virtual just sets it up in some well done to gunston hambling gee raphael was good there because poppy was up close cycling bought some time did it cleverly enough hacked it out got it out of the danger zone dudley's been good they tapped the ball forward and the kick down the line is okay involved there so now going forward now definitely getting to fall forward getting back white cross it's a good kick white cross a little kick to burgoyne and then virgo in short to hold thanks for that dennis hodgeson out back hodge drives it towards the boundary and it bounces out of bounds not his intention i don't think he was thinking i know the hawks i know the dogs play a team defense and you cover off your nearest opponent but gee i don't think they want to get hamling caught on rioli again tonight because he's just far too mobile in fact he's going to be on him again now here 17 points dangerous time for the dog smith currently there was the pocket mcrae get as close to the boundary line to pick in to a dangerous spot that's a good kick ponton pelly got fingertips to it picked up by stringer gets through as a snap and what a beauty it is they needed that one [Applause] it was the dangerous kick that set it up back to the middle and from there things fell into place now there's that uncaught the genie with this jake stringer we're about to find out there's a bit of that chaos ball wasn't it then just get it in there to a dangerous part of the ground and jakey stringer that has got to lift him he's going to be big for the rest of this game oh this is a great centering ball from picken just got it back to the top of the square ponton pelley doesn't quite get it but this is what string is in the side for this is what he's so good at and that might be the very thing that the dogs need they need him up and about they need him kicking goals and duck we thought he was made for friday night footy but those stats suggest not so but maybe tonight is the night the genie gets out of dense [Applause] yeah that's exactly right what he does is he steps forward puts hodge out of the contest here clever and then goes back and takes the mark protected the space beautifully that is a mark of the highest order that that is superb bodywork ducky right exactly what he wanted to do dare i say it was carry like but you don't have to blush because it was and bontempelli from 30 meters out gets the goal stringer and bonsai paleo x factor lee matthews is convinced that ponte pelle could play at center half forward that's the sort of bloke that he is and when you see him play like that he probably could couldn't he yeah he has to be he has to be a forward half player there's no question about that all of his play come up into the middle of the ground he's that big body but then he has to spend a lot of the time inside that 450. this has been a fabulous couple of minutes for the dogs hawthorne got the first of this quarter they needed to respond and it's been on the back of two of their stars jake stringer and marcus bond and pally both kicking goals as we said that mark was outstanding so was the set shot it's game on now they're going out of the middle thanks to mcavoy here's hill heading down towards the 50. is it a quick reply it might be it is the bulldogs two goals in 95 seconds within 10 seconds fourth one respond with one [Applause] strange player ms hill he's good is very good sometimes his ordinary is bad deadly in that situation now he brings speed [Applause] well just so important to win the footy out of the middle and no surprises silk burgoyne involved great handball didn't have to break stride hill sean berg and sam mitchell 17 disposals between them 100 efficiency mitchell again there that one is cut off boyd liberator dunkley gets it forward 50. by the way brad hill has gone from cold to pretty warm in a hurry he's had a good quarter a really good quarter lewis presents and gets a wire to ha town we saw josh gibson take that mark then it looks like zayn court he's got the job on him as a bit of a defensive forward he did the job last week on jeremy mcgovern really well so he's gonna be important to make sure that gibson doesn't have that influence jimmy bartel had it last week on gibson and limited his influence they know how important josh is they're going to hold it up again hill one coming into sheppard ponton pelly on the mark so the right angle to the umpires back over something we actually discussed with hayden kennedy last week pre-match about the tactic and explained the situation about the players have to come from behind the mark if they are to shepherd allthorn i've been able to some good meters over the last few years so frawley a bit of an up and downer big flyers everywhere manny from hawthorne woods handball mitchell trying to push it forward doesn't get it far dow house they got it out will smith have got it out and then hunter and virtual and a boundary throw in ponton pelley now isolated at full forward guys so leigh's wish he's got it there bulldogs just off the pace mcavoy's in front boyd edges him forward the braturo won a hard ball he'll knocked it back in mcavoy goes wide bruce haven't seen much of him spilt it mitchell in desperate trouble johannesson takes him down and liberator also the worst for we are to get up started brilliantly he's had his moments since but that will slow him down boundary throw another side the western bulldogs not playing in their shadow tapped down by mcavoy bruce as i mentioned earlier not many possessions for him coming up for his theft had a great semi-final last year he kicked six a career high against adelaide that's a shabby kick two getting going back stratton and that's a chevy kick going back to white cross is this hawthorn and then white cross gets around a little too easy i'm cordy that's a disappointing result for the dogs and fraud he takes the mark yeah that was really poor by cordy they had them hemmed in through some bad kicking from hawthorne you got to nail that tackle it doesn't hurt them they get a stoppage here poor tackle there's liver going to ground so yep mitchell over the top boyd knocked it down smith high one that's been touched showing makers must have heard the call dunkley right hand pass wood under pressure now goes with the left peg hangs a long time in the air stratton judged it perfectly plays on immediately the run came from behind crawling the hard tongue out wide now white cross pushing up as gibson is with the right foot and hill hangs on flirted with the idea of taking off he's held up at right half forward storming up offering a perfect lead as gunston but it is deep in the pocket gunston one goal tonight hasn't been kicking a lot of goals 51 for the season 57 last season a couple of grand finals with four then he's on very good this one is sliding right across the front of goal big pack boyd knocked it down dangerous spot got a charge out of there morris he's pulling cecily behind him and we'll get the ball up impressing hard [Music] fitzpatrick dale house running towards the line has to kick it back and doesn't get a far heart and it didn't quite stick all over him daniel smith gets a bet mitchell gets her back hodge wrong side doesn't matter doesn't matter the old firm mitchell hodge [Applause] that's hodgie out marked at the other end it's a bit like last week gave a 50 meter penalty away silver got a goal makes up for it almost immediately [Applause] they're big goals aren't they he's only kicked two goals this year hodge i mean they're big goals well not too many left footers boast a right foot but luke hodge does he's superb on both sides of his body mitchell would have been in his right mind to have a shot there himself on his left but gave it to his skipper didn't let him down neither touched the ball it's a block no you've locked him straight away in the height of the mcg fitzpatrick comes back to virtual this is a dangerous lead now for the dogs off the pace by 17. oh gibson board of the wing told to play on looks down deeper to attack a high ball they come from all directions cecily almost the mark trying to pedal it out of there initially was rioli like a basketballer dribbling biggs has a swing at it rioli comes back in out comes daniel emerged with a football well incorrect [Applause] i'll just set this up mitchell rough head still debating that last free kick in the center and i think he's got every right to debate that one too i didn't think it was a free kick let's look at this one yeah good tackle doesn't dispose of the ball that is holding the footy great tackle by liam shields but jordan ruff had not happy with the one at the center bounce and i agree with him lingam shields the hawks number one tackler doing a great job there and he comes and that's a dagger bulldog suddenly in trouble they got those back-to-back goals and we thought they were back no dice it's out to 23. they've doubled the western bulldogs score the hawks now constant aggressive football and they're running hard absolutely he is a great tackle he's not a big goal kicker that uh hammered that one home rafi really upset about the decision a moment ago here's the free kick jordan rough ed competing for the ball as they both were you're allowed to do that you're actually allowed to jump and try and compete for the footy the umpire didn't think so they both did the same thing yep you said a forearm on the chest it wasn't was it no not a free kick at all so six goals straight between the two teams in this quarter after four nine in the opening turn the other issue is the marks in the opposition from hawthorne last week the dogs were able to run and link with hands out of these situations here and then have time to deliver tonight they're hacking it so pontin out getting in the push of a free kick ship and that's a beautiful kick to picken heard the umpire so picking just pumps it up not a great looking kick with string it goes early no free kick given quite get through and exactly on richo's point that picket mark then was only the third mark for the quarter they just cannot move the footy at all [Applause] so definitely the target there fitzpatrick did okay does he get it out of the danger zone well done by dalhouse squeezing it up and then bonten petty was really good across the ball smith and now dunkley checks are behind he's the youngest player out there and getting a bit of the ball margin 22 points then need some runners going forward when they dig it out of the center for the bulldogs for that spoil forward moment on the ground when that high ball came in moments ago here's durai under a cloud early in the week out of the back pocket sends a high one hamling's there over the top comes rough-head and the ball goes out of bounds it's just got to put that infringement behind him one of the best in the business but it didn't appear to be a free kick back of the late two-handed mcrae need more from him cleverly gathered by deck and wheels around distributes high ball in goes hodge destroys this ball at the back gibson came to it strongly and we're going to brawl up okay and knows he's been in a tackle hodge one side gibson the other not what you need for your confidence a couple of big bears around him weren't they rough head third man up bonten pearly dunkley no high given dalhouse normally good couldn't get free johannes just had a half a fumble tries to tap back it's to the advantage of hawthorne fall he had it a long long time paul still not squeezing out picking did well mccrae's hands good dao house gets a fair bit on it but it's safety for and slow and short and hunter picked it off and a boundary throw in so the dogs some good forward pressure here yeah they've been able to hold it in they just have to get reward for holding it in there now halfway back at the turn boundary throw in mcavoy almost clean possession actually mccrae on the way down got a hand pass off dale house in trouble taken by hodge virtual finds her way through hurried kick corny low down 60 meters from goal stay out stay behind down by 22 points there's wide of the mark searching kick inside the forward 50. stratton came strongly picking up the crime joe henderson unlikely goal kicker remains so [Applause] and they've got to get him into the game that's only his first kick for the game jason johannesson that run and rebound off half back that richard was just talking about it comes from him biggs has only had two possessions as well they're just getting none of that at the moment and against the hawks you have to make the most of those half chances and that that was more than a half chance yep so hodge a general back there it's a good kick to terrain then to right it's a lovely kick down the light so half them out here and they're right out because gunston gets it over the top now fitzpatrick not the most nimble but we know he can go long and he thinks about it thinks about the handle over the top shoes in a tight spot burgoyne comes in to help him and then burgoyne with a neat looking kick the full forward beautiful real danger signs now for the bulldogs the hawks a number of times getting out the back and then it's just that panic of who do i go to they're all trying to cover the clever players can use the ball well and find a mark so bruce does he miss well that's a big surprise that's a shock that's a lit off who knows what it means in the long run but that you would have written that one in wouldn't you bruce gets that mark no lingy because they're all worried about cyril cyril's in that he attracts two bruce floats in and takes a an easy mark cycling to mcrae close to the boundary picking hold there stay behind someone like bruce only a sharp shooter picking for the fine season drives it up towards the wing hawks in best position smith gave a contest between trying to knock it down well done by mitchell it's patrick fitted out the back dollhouse was brilliant releases bond and belly forced to kick with his right foot down towards full forward bentley gets in behind white cross and takes the mark about 15 meters out well this has got to be a goal it's been good josh dunkley he sure has helped which was uh yep that was uh absolutely brewing a great kick you're right this is where they've let themselves down though they've missed some easy shots for goal has to kick this as 12th possession and from the moment he arrived he looked like he belonged oh when he hits the post flush 47 plays 26. i'll talk about a game of millimeters that one the post poppy's goal in the first quarter that is allowed millimeters hodgy's touch so close virtual short to frauley thanks tom and you can't help but look up at the scoreboard and three see three goals eight at times and know that you've missed those really gettable chances it starts to play with your mind going back to dixon earlier with those couple of misses poppy to mitchell and then mitchell getting some good distance here around the corner fitzpatrick worked his man out of it handling biggs haven't seen that running carry as we talked about and that's not a good handle that really put morris under the pump terrific tackle coming from show and makers there poppy well done got it forward hawthorne playing it by meters at the moment just scrambling the ball almost up to half forward in the boundary throw in just winning little battles there hawthorne hill responsible for one of the goals in this quarter and one of the goal assists hodge another goal boundary throw in neither ruckman touched the ball picking up the back strongly [Applause] they're trying to stop i think that's just a free kick i don't think it's anything beyond that but well um got him dead to riots didn't they but they threw the dogs a bone right there virtual dinner the bretore now getting in behind his dunkley stop son he's 15 meters out he needs to do this time but he marginally didn't do just moments ago inspirational by liberatory [Music] hit the post with his last effort and he comes and that's better well they continue to play bold football the western bulldogs they know no other way it's risky sometimes it's almost fatal but it's what they do it's in their dna he's done a good job hasn't he's kicking efficiency he's been ordering but he's had more of the ball than anybody else in the first half well good on the young man because you can get the yips and the confidence can go down but stood up in a big moment 13 disposals in the first half so far for him so right back in at the dogs 15 point game hawthorne making the running that was terrific mcavoy to shoes or pick [Applause] interesting isn't it when you'll have a look at it there so picking and then coughs it up picking to stratten to mitchell brilliant hamburger hodge another very good handball hodge gets it back from schulz gets it [Applause] smith a tumbling mark within range this could test him it's about 35 meters out one more meter clash of heads there i think great tackle by joe anderson see at the bottom of your screen bruce getting checked out his jaw clever here by lucky hunter two didn't panic just got it over the top his team made a chance every kick is big how big is this one smith comes in drawing it back on his left peg and he puts a throw and it's back to just nine points can you believe it you just feel as though hawthorne have thrown everything at these dogs and yet the dog so resilient just get up and say give me another one it shouldn't surprise us so should it because they've done it all year yeah they've had so much adversity with injuries and yet tonight they've been challenged and they just keep plugging away sorry boys speaking of resilience this man epitomizes it nailed the goal he loved it he just loves being out there on the mcg playing footy for the team that he loves played three games last year one game the year before he's been crippled with the knee injuries he's had a fine back half of this season so the dogs getting back burgoyne shields bonten belly importing that smother they've really lifted here hunter gets in low almost hands the board in libertore clever to dunk me a 14th disposal to stringer gets it inside forward 50. 40 there hunter again mcrae handball wide boy gone lucky to get away with that hawthorne put the clamps on [Applause] the hand pass was good enough mcavoy hooks it down in the congestion burgoyne kicks towards the other side eastern wood did well showing makers battles for the captain wood over around the football eventually caught he tried to wrestle his way out three blokes have got him bond and belly just joins in like a conga line and we'll get a ball up about 60 meters out from the dogs attacking girl and the dogs are barking they're coming at the moment slapped up wide by rough head forcing a passage bottom belly comes to hunter pulled it back towards the middle and smith can he do it again this one much easier [Applause] what about bond and belly eight of the last nine inside fifties for the western bulldogs lockheed hunter's had a big impact marcus bont and pelly has as well and this man who kicked the last goal trying to drag his team back to level pegging before the half time break there's clay smith then and he comes a man for the moment the margin is under a goal approaching halftime wonderful stuff fairy tale story for that young man you understand this is operation after knee operation and tonight he's flexing all his muscles it's a great mark dennis and a good finish again the bonsai pilli put the dogs within five points 22 minutes ago hill got a goal within half a minute hawthorne were away but now the dogs are back almost on half time montepilli's dinner set has just been so important in the bash and crash he's been getting away through g rioli got him there but bonded penalty got his hands on it lewis got down low there is again forcing his way through gets it to dunkley and duckly gets the board gee that was a smart kick by darkly he checked his kick at the last second then to tom boyd he wound up to go long brilliant by bonding pally just watches he went to go long and then just check the kick hit up boyd perfectly he's imposing himself on this game ponton pelly they threw gunston back but when you hit a lead like that there's nothing the loose man can do this is cuda food he's like he's just grabbing this game by the scruff of the neck bomb does boyd put them in front he doesn't he's a hook so seven five to six nine you know he's winning all the one-on-ones he's creating the space he's breaking the line and he's imposed himself stuck behind grand start behind his ground stadium buzzing at the moment white cross durai hat against the boundary line sends a higher one up towards the wing and from the side sicily balls to gibson slips a hand pass away sicily this is the target mitchell goes back after a couple runs out of bounds mitchell 12 possessions but the glare center stage at the moment and relishing the roll it's tossed in boyd reaches over the top taps it down mcrae goes to ground feeds it across towards mclean trying to wrench it out of there as liberatore reaching for it mcavoy mclean went to ground chance for biggs surrounded high ball dangerous ball for all he comes to deal with it punches away daniel well played by virtual to push him off the line well done by daniel destringer can they take the lead here [Applause] a resounding no taliban's on the fall inside the last minute of what's become a must-see half fantastic dennis says the white cross gives it all he's got hugs the line sicily couldn't quite get into the frame in the end good hands wide liberatory boy got it from macrae lovely pick up by daniel he's a good kick he's the best in the business at that 15 meter inside 50. [Applause] 11 of the last 12 inside 50s to the bulldogs they are coming and the man who unfortunately didn't have the kicking boots on in the first quarter tory dixon missed a couple of kicks that he would normally kick this is a huge kick for his team and his own confidence what does he do here doug oh look he's just got to follow through his routine got to kick through the footing he's a beautiful kick of the ball technically very sound well what about this moment [Music] [Applause] he's oh for three it's hard to get your head around it but what a first half of footy we've seen not over just yet [Applause] so it's on at the mcg here as we can see going in to remonstrate with dixon after he kicked his third behind normally a beautiful kick of the football and suddenly the doggies are barking back at the hawks the hawks trying to impose their will here dermot these situations at halftime when the siren goes there's nowhere for the umpires to go here other than the checkbook next week but in the meantime somebody could get reported there could be some dramas well it just gets out of hand because you know there's no real impact no one will get reported nothing happens it's a push and shove it doesn't look the best but the most that can come out of it is a fine so players know that and they go in there and they fly the flag they shoot off a bit i'll tell you one thing that has happened in the last few minutes the dogs were able to put pressure on the hawks in the middle of the ground and they were finding some real efficiency when they were inside ford 50. they've got inside forward 50 what have we got 29 to 18 the fourth one only extrapolate that out for a full game roosie they go in 36 no matter how efficient they are they're not going to win it no absolutely you know look both teams when they get their game styles going look really really dangerous as soon as the doggies pumped up the pressure around the ball we talked about it before the game when they started having players coming forward to the ball putting pressure on we saw it a few times before half time like the lewis run down yep spilled out ball spills out someone picked it up i think bottom pellet got and they started lowering their eyes inside forward 50 they became way more efficient because they've had their chances i mean they're 16 scoring shots to 12 12. you're watching the footy finals thanks to ultratune here on fox footy mark mcclure four time on goals in time on the one in the first quarter and three in that quarter there so four of those of the six have come from in time on so that's brilliant to run through hawks were cruising and then they just got to whack in the chin let's go straight to the mcg dick jose and jono hawthorne and a bulldogs perspective boys it's a point the difference at half time and a nice little frack out just to warm up the atmosphere even more in this sudden death second semi-final it could not be any hotter at the moment it's certainly hot out here don't worry about that it was pretty fiery at the end there dicko but when you have a look at the way this game's transpired here at the ground hawthorne in total control early on with their d50 pressure absolutely unbelievable then their transition from that they're able to get cyril out the back a couple of times bruce gunston on great transition play the bulldogs need to do something about shawn burgoyne can't believe they haven't gone to him in this game oh he's had a big impact already but i think dermot touched on it around the contest they're just getting their slick uh handballs out too quick and they're happy to give hawthorne two extra numbers when they're inside their forward half so the bulldogs are sitting back in defence with two spares and they're gonna say okay you can have your extra numbers there but we're gonna be slicker with the ball and in that time on like sellers touched on to just get the gaps get the goals and and scoreboard pressure torrey dixon though zero three could have put the nail on the coffin there going into halftime really got them up yeah it's gonna be a big second half looking forward to talking to you guys at the end of the game yeah boyd and dixon missing set shots to put the bulldogs in front at half time it's 16 scoring shots to 12 however it is the hawks as always with the nose in front by a point at half time into the lab we go for ultra tune david king is in there with ross lyon how good was that last 10 minutes the western bulldogs were unbelievable weren't they their pressure was fantastic liberators come back in first class form after missing half a dozen weeks dunkley was fantastic everyone's talking about bonten belly but libertore in the middle of the ground had to win some contested possessions for his team they won 11 the last 13 eight of the last 10 clearances and had a dozen inside 50s in a row it was an unbelievable patch yeah they stuck to their guns they got their game going hawthorne was so efficient they could have dropped their bundle but in the end you know plus 30 can test contested boards the issue raising its head again and i think they're getting enough ball getting enough ground entries 29 to 18 then they're putting the hawks you can only be so efficient in the end you've got to win some ball yeah sporadic the hawks head they are indeed what about this plate guys as we look at the scoreboard here 7547 those inaccurate kicking at goals dixon missed the first two as we know that his first two shots the last one of the half and boyd sprayed one there at the end there are a couple of other shots in amongst it 610 and it is 7-5-47 let's go to two of the gun players you talk about blokes this bloke is known as the silk the second highest finals player as far as games is concerned in the history of football and he's been fantastic tonight to him as always 12 possessions what he's able to do is use that wonderful vision we see there he just slides into that kick and he just drops that short and on this occasion once again he finds it out the back long and this one when he swings and tries to hit sean makers he's just assumed he was going to be a little bit like cyril and pueblo and would be lightning and get onto it just over corrected it a bit yeah look it's a pattern this year isn't i mean for the for the hawks their ability to play really good football only at times and it's on the back of some top performers yeah we saw burgoyne comes in gets a clearance here in the middle of ground hamburg gold to hill every time he touches the football something happens and they do have a number of those players and that's that's pretty much why they're in front that in the accuracy of the bulldogs but you know it has been the pattern hasn't they haven't been able to put 120 minutes of absolute top class footy together this year all right mark mcclure i want you to have a good look at this bloke because he's had a good look only had five kicks six hand balls and two marks and a goal but when they came every single one of them set up a chance for golf his clearance works just special he's got great balance as you can see he's a tall man and he's worked there on hodgy was just brilliant got him out of position and then he finished off extremely well and then went back in the middle and probably cleared it again i mean he is just a star a little chip over the top to picking his hands there just a little fake and away he goes again and puts in another dangerous position again they kicked the ball into the four line really well in the last quarter the second quarter to those dangerous spots and bond montenelli was one of the ones who did so yeah dunkley missed with that kick that we just saw he's kicked two goals oh sorry duncan's kicked one goal two one of them hitting the post so they've had their chances the bulldogs let's go to the newsroom now the herald sons john ralph is there ralphie a couple of interesting incidents in that first half yeah well let's show you this one involving bruce and pick and i think there is still a lot of room in football for the accidental head contact and i think that's what we saw now both of these plays going hard at the ball that perhaps you could say that bruce was fractionally late there but i think his impact and his intention was to get the ball it's very different from the stevie j and kennedy incident shoulder to shoulder accidental head contact there is provision for that in the match review panel so i think he should be no problems at all in regard to the match wouldn't the thoughts i agree entirely with you there ralphie uh what about uh ruffy right but he was there tonight he certainly was and some fantastic news too in regards to his diagnosis now he said today that uh he's had what he describes as positive news in a recent checkup that gives him some sort of thought that he might be able to get back halfway through the 2017 season we know he's having of course the complex and cutting edge immuno immunology treatment but as he said tonight i've had some positive news in the last few weeks now 12 months out of the game would be until next june i have got my head around that and anything other than that would be a bonus now we know that his health is absolutely the first priority in football is very much second but hope is a pretty important commodity in these type of recoveries and he's certainly got that in bucketfuls yeah good on him rafi let's hope everything comes up as well as possible it can be for him and if he can get back by mid next year well that would just be something very very special for our game and for him of course and his family good luck to ruffy all right guys uh rizzy in you go to the lab mate we're going to take a break it's the hawks by a point at half time thanks to ultra tune on friday night football on fox footy it's as close as it can possibly get the ground so far it's working and it's pretty hot down there as well to point the difference hawthorne lead the western bulldogs by solitary behind as we go to the ultratune lab with david king and two of the best minds in football rosie and ross what have we seen that last 10 minutes is that going to be the pattern for the second half or is it going to be what come before that i guess that's the million-dollar question because the last 10 minutes was awesome football by the dogs wasn't it well they stuck to their guns i think it'll fuel their belief they'll come out just full of energy you know ready to go on the front foot the clearance domination entries ground position is exactly how they want to play the game we thought they'd get to breaking point at some stages last week but they found away the hawks can they do it again yeah it's fascinating is it it's very very similar third quarter last week hawthorne got 17 up it's the second quarter this week ross work but then contested possessions just the weight of numbers and you hit the nail on the head if you haven't got ball in hand at a certain point it's very very difficult to win now we know the hawks will keep playing the way they want to play kingy so we know that's going to happen the question is can the bulldogs keep doing what they're doing it's been a territory battle it's been locked in both forward halves let's have a look at some of the vision through the course of the early part of the game because the dogs did really well their ability to lock it in and not allow hawthorne easy exit when they did they scored a couple of times but their ability to lock it in good harassment good pressure some smart ball use you spoke about some off the line bull use yeah making the hawks defend certainly there's some inefficiency in what the dogs are doing but in the end it becomes that weight of numbers and you saw at the end they cracked hawthorne open with that repeat entry locking it in and some easy goals in the end to the bulldogs we talked about before the game that how high the dogs were going to come up and and when it works it works really really well and that's why they do get repeat entries and that's a big base of the game here they've stopped they've been stopped they've stopped the kick backwards here they've forced them to go down the line exactly what the dogs want you to do and mark here and it goes back inside their forward fifth we'd said the teams that struggled to get the opposition to play their game they end up playing hawthorne's game have a look here really good set up perfect set up exactly what they wanted to do kick comes later now caleb daniel he has to make this contest i mean it's a final it's life and death in a lot of ways ross doesn't quite get there and all of a sudden they're off they're at the back as you can see on the right of screen there they're gone unsupported forward's gone yeah well often we talk about it only takes one to break the chain unfortunately daniel wasn't able to impact there so i think what we're going to recognize is the bulldogs their difficulty of getting it out of hawthorne's for ford 50 themselves turned it over a lot so that's why the clearance battle which the dogs are dominating 15 entries eight is making the difference in the team the handball game how do you see the handball game going because the high handball team we know that they'll they're tracking towards 200 again 85 kicks 92 handballs but see it's posed some problems for hawthorne isn't it well if you if hawthorne aren't going to put pressure on a handball game then it works what we saw earlier in the game ross that hawthorne were putting pressure on the dog's handball game so that kick-to-hand ball ratio wasn't working in the dog's favor as soon as they started to get a little bit more uncontested outside with the first two or three handballs hawthorne weren't able to get them and then it started to work in their favor no doubt it's where you play the handball game when they're playing it in hawthorne's forward pocket they look the ordinary the dogs themselves but once they get it through the midfield where there's more room there's more run they looked really good been a long time ed since we've seen the midfield of the hawks been taken to the sword like this they've been vulnerable at times but it's never gone on the scoreboard tonight it has yeah certainly in that uh last ten minutes of that second quarter as dermot was saying just uh off camera before luke bruce had a shot the hawks were leading after kicking three in a rowers but you know about the 20 minute mark they were leading by 23 points and he had a set shot that he'd normally swallow and he absolutely botched it up would have made it nearly five goals sapp's energy from the opposition but he didn't get it and as a result these guys are enjoying their halftime break because they know they're in this final you're watching finals footy on fox hawks versus dogs welcome back for ultratune it's half time tomorrow of course it is the first semi-final sydney versus adelaide at the scg the swans happy to be back on their home ground 6 30 p.m eastern standard time and it is going to be an absolute beauty the adelaide crows have got their entire list fit going into this game and brought an extra ruckman with them jenkins a little slight question mark over his ankle but he's the only injury worry and of course the sydney swans wanting to fight back from their shock loss last week to gws shocking the way they were beaten well that having a second week in a row doesn't usually happen they finished of course on top of the ladder the other team the team of the ages hawthorne at the moment are being pressed by the new exciting western bulldogs football club mark mcclure your thoughts as we're ready for a bounce 95 of people sitting out there watching the game are wanting the doggies to win this game they're sick of hawthorne being up on the top of the ladder and they've given themselves a chance yeah they're manic pressure if the dogs can keep that manic pressure around the footy derm they're a chance to win if they don't then we'll see the slick ball movement of the hawks the dogs should go on and win this it's once again going to be left up to burgoyne mitchell rioli and lewis needs to lift well how many times lean hawthorne under pressure in the minor finals and then dominate a grand final it's there again they lead by a point in the second semi-final ounce of the third term a point the difference hawks lead it rough head getting high knocks it down dalhaus off balance on the ground virtually taken by smith toward champ forward in front reoling who else swings around clever kick and sicily takes the mark about 30 meters out didn't even hesitate then cyril really as soon as he marked the footy he just turned and looked inside 50 he knew he'd have an option it is as soon as he landed play on make a decision on the run and james sicily was the man who was free well we sing his praises a lot really but she's a good footballer they did this at the start of the second quarter too as first goal certainly got the first goal of the game and this one misses had a chance to start the second half the same way as he did the first supposed to cover luke bruce when he missed that shot it was 46-25 from that point on the dogs kicked three three to nothing so hawthorne like the dogs have missed some chances here haven't they i mean tory dixon's the one we think a lot of in that first half suckling straight down the middle to bontempelli rough head daniel coughed it up smith gave it to shield shields it gets it back where's rioli he gives a free kick away unrealistic attempt but it's me yeah bruce bruce you'd argue there's no such thing there isn't but i keep saying duck he's become a marking forward hasn't he rather crumbling forward a bit like eddie betts and it's quite remarkable what's happening with these small forwards deray goes back let's see if he can mark this one against all the odds holding the man bulldogs another free kick to handling so a couple of little battles one here but see those two high balls that went in i know riley's a break and he takes marks but they haven't had a tall option either time there they need to get a tall option to at least compete for those high balls this one is high too outside the defensive 50 rough head got a fist on it bond and belly inspirational in the second term dal house libertarian trouble bond and belly well worked quantum pillar goes out wide cordy just lays it to mccray he was very busy in the first half 14 possessions mostly by hand looks down towards the pocket joe hannahsen needs to get back off the mark quickly so hamilton about 65 meters out runs wide of the mark now low trajectory kick liberatore almost held there liberator cecily could have almost got a free as well over the top picking and it's a stale making the ball up [Applause] it's a feisty character picking isn't it it's a river it just loves a blue loves a hard ball [Applause] montanpelli third man up kick they're going to get the kick away what a final trick or burgoyne's got second only to tuck in terms of number of games played and getting close to amongst the very best ever in terms of wins in final string and did well mcrae again dennis talked about his first half gets the ball to a dangerous spot gibson gets across bontampelli [Applause] i mean could a burglar or a hodge go with him in a one-on-one a round of stoppages they could they'd have the strength around the stoppages but i just wonder about back themselves yeah yeah that's right liam shields is the only one but he looks like he's on hunter at the moment it's a high ball from rough it'll be play on lewis gets a little bit on it gets it almost away johannesson can't quite get through put daniel under a fair bit of pressure daniel has to cough it up smith and virtual involved and the ball up so you think of the tight one-on-one clearance as a burglar hodge might be able to body him or not they'd have to they'd have the strength in the body and through the hips absolutely but then what happens from the contest can he outspread them mcavoy did well and again founded on the deck for louis hurriedly out of the air gunston was being held play goes on i think dogs around the footy morris wood is hot rioli finessing thinking his way through it came back did wood though and eventually the dogs forced it towards the boundary taking a wild swing sicily shields good first half gave it to rioli not 15. dalhaus now bonten pelle with some clear air kicks inside the forward 50. in front liberatore away by hodge ball running free inside the center square the big man grabs it mcavoy down avoids half forward showing makers has it cutting the angle towards the goal square down there is bruised it sits for him he'll go in and kick a goal into him stop [Applause] again are the best at caring at the length of the ground loose ball inside the center square and mcavoy that's right mcavoy onto the loose ball and bruised the finishing touch they're not sure uh libber is the right target inside 50 for the bulldogs he was the target big spoil and then that ball goes straight up the corridor she mcavoy was important there was a hodge of course but mcavoy well finals are all about important moments bulldogs players everywhere but mcavoy he won it he got it forward and then it was a certain goal for the hawks sean makers he saw luke bruce over the top there's been a few of them tonight where the hawks have got out the back but well done by ben mcavoy yeah they've kicked four goals from about 10 meters out tonight three from the goal square and sicily another one so hawthorne get a little bit of breathing space not much but a little hunter just gets a little wobbly run away well picked up by boyd du bois tom to matthew to mcrae to morris they spread it this is where they'll be very very dangerous cordy's kick didn't go very far was good stuff by the hawks daniel down low well done by louis it was because daniel i think was away and lewis was able to just hold him up staying caught he's just got to realize you don't have that much time in a final had to kick that quick up margin eight points lewis third man up burgoyne tackled down after it mccrae did well fitted out wide suckling confined dunkley been good boy macrae in space cordy quicker this time down towards full forward well pushed under the football [Applause] 25 meters out just took him out of the contest no chance there for lamb picking so well i'm tired by the umpire we've said it all night the set shot's so important must kick this must kick it at half time a point the hawk's way liberator comes in or rather picking comes in and puts a pro two points the margin now [Applause] that's been what's happened to him in the last two years he's actually become a goalkeeper hasn't he was a a great run with player for such a long time that he's become an offensive player as well and that makes him even more valuable just think of some of these players playing in teams higher up the ladder or more fashionable more particularly now they'd be big names wouldn't they absolutely is one of them well two afl legends one on the left we know his battle at the moment the other one expecting to see him play next year bob murphy on the right and jared ruffhead on the left and two of the best blokes in football those two blokes for sure 54-52 what a game dunkley trying to get through mitchell trying to get it out smith was good in there that's clay smith he's already had a significant role tonight [Applause] lock early isaac smith the third man gunston when he tried to pave the way well done by cordy that time and then smith gets it away hodge barrels himself into the right spot clarko's uh put sean burgoyne to the deepest forward this is smith alongside the center circles another short one that fits patrick from the end of the square want to get long down there is burgoyne he's at the back of the pack doesn't fly would almost really brilliant hand pass buopolo deep in the pocket now gunston dunstan kicks the goal he's got his second that was like lightning [Applause] they're repealing the touch we saw the one earlier on overturned where luke koch got a finger on it yep the umpires say that each goal is silently reviewed up in the box it's a terrific finish by gun score of you here guys please hold the ball we're waiting we're just waiting there they are we're looking at it we're waiting pool doesn't deviate does i mean it's well they look for the fingers to see where the fingers bend back in that situation but there's too much blur there i think for them to completely conclusive the scorers are behind the ball was touched okay that's true there we go [Applause] much bigger screen up there that's probably a better angle okay this is the angle they're using now yeah okay so that yeah the little finger you can see just bend yeah well well decided so one at either end in the match mcavoy already had a good moment in this quarter poppy over in it gunston holds it back gibson arches the back hodge gets it back smith in the right spot he was there last week and he's actually what a game we've got here everything happening again really a moment ago and pueblo those sharp hands point to the pocket and settling comes down the line working in front though white cross almost marked it and the ball spills out of bounds we get a boundary throw in game of the balance a long way to go big crowd mcavoy and rough head mcavoy almost cleaned possession off the ground by smith marcus got the free kick doesn't cross the ground immediately an element of danger some blocking down there by biggs dalhouse took the mark plays on gave it to wood wood kicks it towards right half forward trying to block down there dunkley and run back on it virtual too smart for that won the football kickstart towards the wing he's that in the back to dale house dancing through his hell now he's away the speedster kicks it down towards half forward they come from all angles pueblo knocked it down to his own advantage sweeping hand pass bounces to cordy tackled [Applause] arguing there you got a hand on it i think this one is certainly a throw and the one he kicked was from a tackle as well against caleb daniels so that's two tackles inside 50. that's what he's there for he's a fantastic tackler always high up in that stat in the competition margin four points can they stretch it beyond six again there's a tempo in this guy shields is kick yes missing to the right-hand side five points the difference like a magnet down that in for hawthorne at the moment to that right so set shots missed from both ends tonight plenty of them [Music] boyd to himself and then a long ball to the other board white cross was the late spoiler showing makers the early jumper and a ball in and the western bulldogs have got to keep being brave with the ball in the hand from their back half of the ground they've only taken the 31 marks extremely low for them in this game when they see an opportunity to go through the middle they need to back their leg keep taking the game on and maybe just maybe they'll be able to break open this hawthorne team and maybe run them off their legs roughhead and mcavoy they engage early hodge gets the third man belting forward and about 20 meters gain for hawthorne i reckon they'll do a lot more of that for the rest of this second half they need to clear it out of that immediate area because they're being smashed around the clearance and contested possession they need to get more third man up the hawks mackenzie and rough head go at it again arriving quickly hodge couldn't find a way through rioli looks for him now with a hand pass liberatory at the base of that pack taken across the boundary line by dunkley after a moment there where cordy controlled the footy only gave away two early free kicks after some dazzling play to set up behind as it turned out in the opening minute got it to cecily dunkley he's been terrific thunder looks inside the center square in two mines runs himself in and out of trouble still under pressure kicks towards harp forward pushing off down there with smith away by white cross taken by pick and pick him to smith he recovered brilliantly hooks at the full forward and the mark has been taken by stringer oh the reaction time that smith was brilliant [Applause] stringer 15 meters out this for the lead he's kicked one [Applause] a great kick from smith never even looked at the goal just look to the top of the square straight away all four and have led for 70 minutes string stringer comes in not now the hawks string against his second i just love the way smith got back into the contest and became the overlap and then the kick a searing kick back towards the middle [Applause] we've got ourselves a game the champs really being put through a vigorous examination he was off balance smith it was a great kick wasn't it [Applause] he's done his bit stream hasn't he he hasn't had a huge night but two goals now and that's all he's got to do keep putting himself in the situation where the ball is going to be in that forward line he could be the match winner for the dogs the biggest lead they've had for the night the dogs have only been one point in front all night string and doing well to dollhouse johannes and suddenly some real bounce a big kick disappointing cut off by stratton and they get it back gibson from gunston and hawthorne have got to be precise here burgoyne broke it but bruce couldn't quite handle a hot ball and now hawthorne on the back foot mccrae mclean back to mccray slow each kick it's okay suckling gets hold of it kicked a couple of goals for hawthorne in the prelim last year over in perth clever kick mclean denied a goal earlier tonight with the video morris now they start to get some quick run this is what they've been looking for down that line johannes and we haven't seen him running carry so far tonight he does there and ruff it's got the trip if he wants it what about jack mcrae bruce 22 possessions just six kicks his hands are playing a part in this his run absolutely ends up being big just starting to really open up getting getting some real width in their play now really spreading the hawks defense which is in turn opening up the corridor well he kicked a massive goal didn't in the third quarter at subi last week when he took a mark and ran on and gold this would be very big indeed always a little to the thin side two points to margin so that is the biggest lead the dogs have had all night the trouble for hawthorne is they can't get their game going that's their seventh mark for the quarter that's not how hawthorne play the dogs are controlling it totally now henderson with a lot of confidence came up to meet gunster and smothered the hand pass out of bounds tossed in rough head beaten by mcavoy slapped on by gunston dalhouse in the year boy daniel great tackle no free kick he must have just raised it with his boot trying to get out of there was hill then goes daniel again he's over the football tackle by heel and we'll get a ball out enough tries to crash the pack mitchell was waiting for him anticlimactic the ball spills out of bounds what a game he's played when they needed him most in their second quarter and that's that third man up it was gungston mcavoy toe pokes suckling the left foot it goes back to boyd high about 45 meters from goal flawley at the back dunkley made a pretty good flight at hodgs trying to get involved and the ball not getting out good by the bulldogs though just keep locking it in there keep giving themselves opportunities opportunities to get a free shot at goal that's how they're going to turn this game well and truly in their favor put the pressure back on the hawks stringer and mclean gets it back a dalhouse got a fair bit on it gets it to a pretty good spot slowly gets over the top bouncing ball who can get their mitts on it oh good tackle coming over the top by frawley johannesson was lurking down there's just no smoothness to hawthorne at the moment is there [Applause] took a swing and missed it stringer's got it in the opposite direction his teammate rough here so it's wedged between the pier thank you up straight back and chills is definitely running with pontin pelly now at stoppages he's had the seven clearances ponton pelly most on the ground tossed up raphael taps it down taken by mitchell hurriedly out of the air ball bounces outside the defensive 50 qapalo goes with wood wood controlled it pretty well over running the football sicily take it by cycling reaching into sicily tries to knock it across the ha tongue hattan gives it the hill accelerates through the curve gave it to ganston gunston comes back to mitchell long ball just beyond santa falling back as mclean couldn't take the mark dixon gets a hand past the boy pulling to the ground mclean little one two with dixon they kept their poise they kicked their poise and macrae is taking the mark on the wing comes to the middle matthew boyd dunkley and suddenly they're picking hawthorne apart at least for the moment biggs just has to sit and wait for a minute and then brings the ball back to a pretty good spot again he's got enough head launched himself [Applause] clever play from the bulldogs they won the footy on the outer wing they didn't go four they realized that the hawks had numbers back they were patient they brought it back to the closest side and then went then they knew they had the big target they knew they could go long and wayne they played like hawthorne that's what hawthorne have been doing for years what they did a minute ago from center wing to center wing patients they did so rafi with another big shot he's got it he's got a big third quarter goal that's big for jordan ruffed to back up after he just missed a shot at goal it was a long one outside 50 but to get down there again take a strong mark and go back and nail it and he's so important for his team his teammates they'll get belief from that this is a good game of footy [Applause] have a look at this here mac mcavoy uh came in late but there was a really clever block on mcavoy from bonton pelly that set that up dogs by eight points mcavoy knocks it down spills white of the pack joe henderson picks it up goes to boyd throws the call hill gets the three bulldogs six of the last seven goals hill comes across the ground taken by lewis and lewis steadies things down just sends it inside the forward 50 now big pack ganston got a hand to it bruce brilliant smothered by hamling slapped out there by courtney who's ball on the 50. [Applause] the ball magnet goes to the other side johannesson just waits for it to lob wants to give it over the top now he settles go short daniel i've been impressed with the dogs they can't be intimidated can they i mean they can't be rattled they saw some misses early with nerves but they've stood up so well dunkley's been a star mcrae we've talked a lot about the way he's built this game a lot of handballs in the first half kicks the ball wide bottom kelly brought the ball nearly down but he took a couple with him shields tries to play poke can't and mcavoy getting to the hot spot and taking them forward don't go forward it's been impressive kicked a couple last week but much better again even tonight smith to sicily given his own defense takes on cycling who corrals him was poor play duray in trouble now they're rattled it's only a boundary throw in but that is massive for the western bulldogs lock it in your forward 50 again jake stringer the man who nailed the tackle that is big if they can kick a goal on the back of this it will give them all the belief in the world boundary throw in then knock down by mac avoid pontin pelly stood up in the tackle fired it to mclean strong cattle by gibson got him down cecily gives it back to mitchell mitchell tries to break away it's a god-free kick and i'd suggest within scoring range who's getting the kick is it bond and belly tony mclean i think it is [Applause] [Applause] mclean thought he had earlier in the game the first caught up but it turned out to be touched young man just playing his 13th game of the season got some injury problems finds himself in a very important role and passes the cast with flying counters and those fellas a red white and blue [Applause] it's all happening for them that's been a impressive and quite remarkable turnaround here came into lingjong i didn't think it was there duck what are your thoughts well this is the one where the player goes on the shoulder so initially and then they they lift their armlingy and when they do that i tend to say play on so from 23 points behind they get to a 14 point lead here seven of the last eight picken hunter tongues had a quiet night smith's been outstanding liberatory brought down by burgoyne well hawthorne have got out of so many tight spots over the last few years they're in one right now we know that what a scrap [Applause] dollhouse looks like a choir boy does it third man they win it to stringer to daniel spreads it to biggs biggs arches he's back gets around brings it back in hunter lurking left footer goes to mccray or stringer yes he's done it he's kick three he kept this waiting for a while [Applause] those quick hands from macrae and then string are finding a way home absolutely brilliant their hands they in close just give their teammate the room to have a shot and stringer didn't let him down that was ponton pelly's third man up though yeah at the stoppage that started it all he's a genius he is an absolute superstar our age in a final it's finals aware the reputations are made up by richard this is huge by bonds and pally by the bulldogs massive patch of the game had the ball lost it eventually hunter getting busy cycling trying to pull it away there puapo spinning in and out of trouble rough head is over the football with the assistance of liberatory they tie it up so four goals from their last five inside 50s for the western bulldogs the money is on the table now walthawn backs to the wall lewis knocks it down quaffles quick kick burgoyne sandwiched and the ball up just inside the 50. remarkable first term almost disbelief they've suffered through a lot with this team something to get a lot of hope meantime dixon long way to go hunter mclean but the confidence is on the rise beautiful past mcrae [Applause] a little mustard on all of that by clay smith he's got two goals he's feeling it almost and how big would a marking goal have been bontelli again winning the rock though fitzpatrick gets involved roughhead gets it from picking high ball smith and mitchell mitchell tries to thump it away boundary throw in we've talked a lot about round three in the build up to this hawthorne kick rather the dogs kick six goals to two in the third quarter in that match and led by 19 points at three-quarter time and hawthorne found a way they've got to know that hawthorne will not stop coming that's why they're as good as what they are but oh no no no no it wasn't picking and then flawley well he's filtered that out and he's gone deliberate quick play on by picking and that was probably not the right move to johannesson it was always going to be low and perhaps short and now a stoppage so much happening it might have been one an option past that one and just missed kicked it completely there picking quantum belly wide dowel house thought mcrae was behind him really got it gave it to her gently as far as biggs unwinds from 55 long ball downwards pull forward picking well he won't go easily into the night thumped away by frawley taken in the back pocket by shields kicks it back towards the wing missing it over the top there was show and makers spills to burgoyne no way through bearing down with smith without the gifts gives a hand pass to dollhouse to biggs and biggs not so good out of bounds on the floor that's good play by burger and actually the hip and shoulder look at that third quarter this place is that's a smashing oh picking nilly would have got a freak and a terrible handball mitchell running the gauntlet massive problems here for the hawks mitchell can't get it out liver ken you know who of course it's him it's him you know who it [Applause] as is 20 year old imposed himself like this fella and it's on now oh this is exactly what the hawks i feel embarrassed to ask for luke hodge and sam mitchell and the lewises they're the ones they're their leaders got to go again that has to be a big big center clearance here for the hawks only a minute to go but it's a massive goal from ponte pelle he has been massive kick the two goals now had the eight clearances all the third man ups there's a special football up marcus bond and pally just so hard with liberty isn't that good so claimed nine of the last 10 goals to the bulldogs mcavoy mitchell the champ trying to rally his mates hard time well like a really strong tackle came from behind the pressure mounts mccray peddles it through i'll clip over the outside of the boat then across to smith one of his left side beats it back to daniel daniel confronted by smith on his smith goes out wide the mark is taken by johannes and johannes and measures the kick now if ever there was a stage made for this man the crowd playing for goals and stringers got the ball in the pocket jason joe anderson running over to him telling him just have a shot take all the time you need good lead by stringer nice kick i think what he would want to hear at this stage is you're the man jake stringer the margin is 26 points this to push it out at the five goals fittingly after the siren the kick is on the way it's a stinker [Applause] they have to at least draw a level around the contest and hopefully their skills can come into play but gee it'll be tough to overtake this dog's team now they are feeling it they're feeling the crowd it's been an unbelievable performance and lee clarke would have looked at those veterans those champions it has to come from there hawthorne got all the problems as richard said they're just not winning the footy we see the center square here it's really what you go to burgund's in there rioli's in there mitchell's in there but bulldogs the bulldogs are just killing them at the contest if you haven't got the footy it's hard to kick goals [Music] a little win here for the bulldogs too cyril in the middle and he's their most dangerous forward history is a tough opponent will thorn chasing their fourth premiership not today but if they lose they go no further roughhead boy liberture head down spills wide hartung mitchell hurriedly bounces it down towards half forward morris in front leads back in the race wood did well daniel now biggs off half back long kick towards half forward plenty of hawks in the vicinity pulls in front jarray slapped it across the gibson virtual now it's with frawley and he retreats back to the numbers oh god uses hard time no angle for the run though goes across to the opposite pocket stratton now hill he's trying to bounce his way out here hill running hard to hodge oh brilliantly cut off by bottom fairly oh this is a real dagger to dixon so hodge and bonte pelle again involved as they were earlier tonight and it's like the young buck against the old buck isn't it it's the the young champ and the old champ well that's uh that's just basketball at its best there just read it beautifully knew exactly what hogs was going to do and dixon's kicked three behinds tonight and as that ball went from hodge to bontim kelly it was like the baton was being changed from one hand to another he's missed three he won't miss four [Applause] it's a big lead [Applause] well it is unless you love hawthorne and i know so many do it is just so exciting i've got to be honest it's contagious it is the western bulldogs excitement with the way they play their fans the passion it is genuinely contagious it's been a performance for the ages by one man tonight hasn't we'll never forget it bulldogs fans believe now your team is playing simply sensational football 32 points the margin we know the hawks won't go away they're that team but gee the dogs have been good daniel with the outside of the bird hangs in the air a long time gibson angles the punch back towards the boundary picking arrived quickly off balance though and crawly tracks into the boundary line [Applause] the only going final term of the mcg what a night in all respects the merging of the future and the past perhaps it's still a way to go mcavoy burgoyne mitchell famous names fuopola runs the outer side kicks it up towards the wing unrealistic on cyril but then he just taken behind the pack by cycling sends a long ball down towards full forward in front giray dixon tries to push it across the boyd he's an all fours dollhouse knew where the help was they're going brilliant down goes stratton dunkley has been outstanding oh play on the call apparently buffalo's got it on the other side had forever done didn't he but birch was able to get it to pull up a low kicks down the line no mark taking a boundary throw in morrison boyd you think a lot about them don't you that those warriors from that 0809 10 period they hardly missed a game between them over 75 matches played just about all of them i got so close against the saints in 2009 in the prelim hartung on the burst joe henderson running hard good kick mark taken by bruce it's a long time ago since he missed one when they led 46 to 25 yeah it has been an avalanche since then well just has to kick but they have to kick them all they have to do what only two teams have done come from 26 points or more behind does he whittle it back and here's the post all those narrow wins this year that narrow defeat last week you feel like that lucky turn is just spinning the wrong way suckling happy to be on the side he's on right now roughhead was up couldn't take the mark pick and slaps it out quick hands by gibson mcavoy he's battled manfully kicks inside the forward 50. hamling tackled down so too gunston fuopolo quick shield squeezes a kick out well read by boyd the all australian comes up and takes the mark you mentioned him and dale morris before they've been really those steadying influences in that backline with all the injuries they've had bob murphy jason johannesson throughout the year boyd and morris have stood strong pueblo taken high by biggs we'll get a fresh [Applause] confident a bounce caresses it he's a beautiful kick g duncan's been a fine player oh he was so good in the first half when things were tight it's opened up now for the dogs 22 possessions bruce 10 goals to one since that miss in the second quarter tom boyd not much of the ball but everybody growing in confidence now he's had some big moments he's been that big target at times and hasn't got out marked and that at times is what he's there for unlike the hawks who haven't had that big target inside their 50. cycling punched away by fitzpatrick she ray up ended in their liberatory did well won a hard ball running into an open goal from hunter to peckham [Applause] a buzz around this ground is palpable just a hint of a smile try as he might to this geyser just picking with a couple of goals it was great by hannah there's two sides to every story you think about what hawthorne players are thinking now coaching staff you also think of this either the giants or the bulldogs are into the grand final either the gws giants or the western bulldogs will be playing in this year's grand final it's massive 1961 for one and the other one well guppy allen said to you and i dennis about before they'd played a game with the giants he said we're going to be really bad for a while and then we're going to go from really bad to really good not good but really good in a hurry he's not with him anymore but he's right mitchell gets it smothered mcrae it's been remarkable they've kicked 11 of the last 12. this is the bloke that it's all centered around quantum philly to hunter hunter y stringer i'll go back and the architects of that passage of play was jackson mcrae and marcus spontan palace you just called bruce both of those players superb smith he was important with his couple of goals earlier on in the game and then lockheed hunter getting on the end of it as he's done all year with his hard running good ball use and you reckon this one might bring the crowd to its feet if he nails it from out here jakey string up they love him at the western bulldogs is it a beautiful package tonight he's kicked three pretty good ones hasn't he no it's going to be across the face hawks trying to defend it fitzpatrick takes the mark gibson to smith out of defense gunston running out of space feeds it back inside mcrae did well knocked it across looking for mclean chopped off by burgoyne 1-2 with gibson now it's taken by fitzpatrick mitchell this is the target off the ground in hope by hodge that strength is suckling [Applause] the margin is 37 points of the first half as well that was important suckling goes to the outer side smith battles out there with stratton trying to feed it out but he's outnumbered look at that three on one they've still got the appetite hunter surgically down the line finds dixon just think of the job they've done on the two grand finalists in the last fortnight i mean west coast and hawthorne from last year yeah thank you around the contest on both occasions just obliterated them in the contested bowl west coast and hawthorne and so clean and eventually opened the game up it's been impressive it has been super impressive i think if they this is a team that didn't get that by in the last round what a difference it has made to them hunter belching forward hawthorn with the numbers pickens been deadly around goal bell chicken hove he's kicked three oh what a night what a night for them [Applause] what did john elliott say about the club remember that comment about their past well right now their future's looking all right rex respectively we can all be smarties can't we but right now it feels pretty good if you're a doggy supporter i reckon every team would want this bloke in their tank just gives these all every week and he's finished it off tonight [Applause] goals career higher three goals [Applause] kicked two 11 times in his career taken down his gunston strong tackle by dunkley who's been attacking machine tonight hey young player he's been just fitted in straight away gunston daniel so many heroes for the western bulldogs but now of course they've got to dust themselves off and pick themselves up and go again next week hard to see that not being the case impossible in fact here's smith to laying the hand pass har tongue carries the ball down towards left half forward fits patrick comes back smith eyeball look what he's thinking now smith having his best shot can't do more than that roughhead is tied up and we'll get a ball that last stat that came up on the screen 12 smothers to three that's just the western bulldogs they just do all those little things every week gunston mcavoy shields getting it back bouncing and rolling it yep he's got it so schulz gets his second goal well lee mathis talked about the tackling at halftime and 57 tackles that he said if all them couldn't maintain that shields of course is the best in the business there that they would be opened up in the second half and it's one of the things that's happened it's another thing i'm thinking about for next week right now i'm just thinking about next week 23 000 capacity 24 000 capacity for western bulldogs and gws giants now you just don't feel that it's going to be right i mean you look at the swell here tonight i agree with you bruce i reckon there'd be 24 000 bulldog supporters wanting to go up to that game they believe right now they want to be there they want to see that preliminary final road engine chances are they probably won't get a chance jws have earned that right though down the field now it's going to be patrick's ball anyway come short gunston right on the 50. frey stands the mark one meter forward gunston early in the game perhaps he could do this trip problematic now not trying just setting it up towards the kickoff line big pack at the drop in front daniel mclean did well just stepping through the congestion kicks it out towards the boundary now is that intended for picking i reckon it wasn't drives it back inside the forward 50. it's a last hurrah by the chance knocked away by rough head going through strongly morris still going morris that was brilliant bigs and the cry slips it forward joe henderson runs the outer side wing mcrae pushes up and will get it again got it from dixon comes to mclean low down back to mcrae great stamina clean that johannes who was involved moments ago and now he hits boyd on the move see they're impressive just about the best handballing team we've seen in such a long time we saw that in close against west coast last week didn't we without doubt they've done it all year gambling got your number didn't you linger geelong number 45. he did he had a few years at the cats 2012 his first season he did inherit the number 45. jim mcgrace had a night 36 possessions bruce he's been wonderful had a month off for so many of their players came back we know for that final bonsompilli the best of all of them and the ball up i think they find him a frustrating player at the bulldogs but he has the potential to be a great player macro yes he's a smart footballer he just reads so well he's the icing on the cake isn't he in many ways there he is again bond and belly they're a contrast of each other but they complement each other brilliantly one's an accumulator the other one is a match winner 64 plays 101. the team of a generation is taking its leave here tonight thanks for the memories hard tongue gibson now to watch half forward little chip pass brewster's taking the mark 55 liters out daniel is off exhausted dua polo in the pocket takes the mark a career out of not very much at least that's how it appeared on the surface what a player he's become now hopefully he's okay guapo comes in kick is on the way and it's always skinny this is to the near side now daniel is frustrated by all of this so there may be a story here hopefully not this time here well what a ride it's been for the hawks just wondering that contest daniel may have just heard his shoulder a little bit doesn't look too bad though they're not giving it too much attention but getting a massage a well-deserved one according virtual cut it off good tackle from mclean and then that strong tackle from smith house two of them thanks guys please let him up play thanks that's it yeah thank you thank you stretch that shoulder well they've had a horror drum with injuries haven't they the biggest of them all against awful in round three but they've overcome so much libertaria kicked too hard forward all done there don't be getting it on sicily not a huge impact look good earlier holding the ball bulldogs in fact sicily haven't brought a whole lot to them tonight sicily as i said a bit early smith's been outstanding 10 tackles now for clay smith to go with his two goals he has been outstanding inspirational when things weren't going perfectly for the bulldogs he was the one who stood up sets it up to about 25 meters hawthorn with all the numbers and mcavoy gets back to takeover play on anton virtual smith wide bottom belly covered a lot of ground a draw is a win [Applause] boundary [Music] that's good news daniel wanting to get back out there inside the last seven minutes to the back of the pack mcavoy mclean in trouble liberatore hunter boyd knocked away by hill merging with it mitchell what a player what an impact smith virtual now stratton sicily smith bearing down hill runs hard lead to the head gibson back hector hill kicks it out wide looking for ganston it runs close to the boundary gunston trying to get across on the anglers biggs kick goes along to the square fits patrick well done by the hawks he's five meters out he took the mark in the gold square no angle here no time to waste 15 while on the mark only three meters out it's a goal [Applause] so the margin now is 30 points six minutes to go you wouldn't think so still that's the respect we have for hawthorne isn't it it's lee's theory too well not the respect we have although lee's probably shaking his head he's shaking his head it's official so five goals behind mitchell and hodge you debuted in the very same match back in 2002 gibson's come across and won three hold your mitchell with their four burgoyne with three plus one one at port adelaide and they upset brisbane who are going for four just some of the greatest finals players we've ever seen that uh it's george harrison i said all things must pass and they are here showing makers office step good kick they're going goes back marcus that's it mate before you are standing now yep thank you they've picked two back and they're five behind only tucks played him okay finals [Music] he's played in 20 winning finals burgoyne only tuck and martin pike have played him more it's a good kick has it held the line has it held the line he's kicked it they're back to four [Applause] you've got to love this about them don't you i mean they are down they're out and yet they've been able to scramble three goals if they get the next senate clearance there'll be some sort of feeling here they will believe they will believe they have done it so often before got so much experience in there they will think they'll be looking up at that clock constantly knowing if they can win this centre clearance and get the next one i would think they can still win it that's what champions do that's what champion teams do they never think they're out of it the biggest lead 43 points it's now back to 24. bulldogs need to control the footy big collision there oh gee that is a big call right away oh yeah that's the right call stay there comes out wide gibson peeling off half back relentless here they come again towards harp calling i just got it 52 meters out the bulldogs have to snap back into this game now hodge long ball to the goal square that goes rough it didn't take the mark controls it claims the mark that's good thinking even if he didn't think he marked it he was able to retreat across the goal line now the bulldogs have just got it maybe just a minute here duck of just hang on to the footage yeah hang on to the footy maybe a couple of stoppages in a row you think it's still definitely theirs but just to make sure of it perfect lucky one fell in jackson mcrae's arms now they can just settle it down a little bit for the hawks they have to man up they have to make sure there's no easy kick they can't allow the dogs to do this [Music] okay the hawks so down that line they're going a little touch to mitchell they've been so effective with that over the years poppy couldn't quite tackle on cycling suckling getting deep into a final series again this time with the opposite teammate i mean remarkable he played every game in the year they got beaten by sydney didn't play a game the next year in 2013 when they won the first of the three grand finals and then played in the next two and now he's on the team that puts them out and there's that minute they've just been able to suck up a minute and a half now and now they are home that's a dangerous kick once again the man trusted by mcrae was bond and belly he did it last time he kicked it to him and that time he went to the middle if you don't mind but that is the western bulldogs bond and belly back up wide towards the boundary and it runs away and out of bounds that's what i was talking about sometimes you can frustrate but i pray that time was a dead eye dick and kicked it to the right man mcavoy down behind mitchell away gibson white cross inside the center square eyeball numbers with the dogs in from the side cyril virtually unsighted in this term goes in after the footy boyd was courageous well done by hunter roddy's knees you were the help was gives it to courtney cordia high ball back towards midfield rutherford has played a game short high daniel gave it to bond and pelle goes down towards how forward here's a chance for boyd gets it across the stringer and then does he get a good bounce here it sits up isaac smith to sicily you kick the winning goal back in round three that seems an eternity ago now back to sicily in a one-two and that kicked down the line shawn makers hunter gets across cuts it off johannesson back to hunter what a fine season he's having so important crowdfigure by the way we're going to put up in a moment it's um it's massive and it is the biggest crowd that have ever seen the bulldogs win any football match ever wow so there it is 87.8 no haven't seen a bigger crowd no bigger crowds ever seen the dogs win a match hodge sicily poorly running out of space and the bull is out of bounds well i've said a couple of times this last week just talking various functions the next great rivalry in the afl will be the gws giants and the western bulldogs that starts next week tossed in on the other side rough head loved his guy white cross defiantly bergo and slips away runs the boundary on the other side roughhead running hard after him cyril disappointing second half hen passes to hodge hodge goes long towards football and he still knows where they are this second [Applause] well it's too late now but that is a beautiful kick of the footy by luke the champ hawthorne they have played this one out right to the very end the bulldogs last two minutes have been good just wounded off the clock that's just a perfect kick that's carried it by five or ten meters too look at hodgie but he's still giving him just one more right 12 goals 12 to 15 11 i mean it's been bit by bit pegged away we know they can't win but hodgie doesn't know they can't win and that's more important than us not knowing they can't win [Applause] so only two teams have won three premierships in a row since the bulldogs were last in the grand final hawthorne in brisbane bonsam kelly again digs forward dunkley the poise of a veteran four to the wing kicks it down towards the 50. gets patrick over the top crashed the pack the braturi making sure got it out of the middle and now he kicks it down towards the goal square picking hunter well did some good work for himself white cross down the boundary after hill's earlier good work now jerry that's holding the football daniel the stars [Applause] perhaps when they look back the champs will think back then in 2016 we lost to a really good team who knows what history will write but tonight it's writing that the western bulldogs are through to a preliminary final [Applause] and daniel strides it out towards goal bruce what a season he's had what a match he played last week in perth what a little moment for him here a little fella it's been 55 years today they've won consecutive finals [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] right this is a special special team that is building you've just beaten a team that's won three premierships it's unbelievable it's really exciting unbelievable effort tonight we got down by four goals but you know the heart and courage the boys show to come back and win like that's fantastic there is an incredible elite building in this team you can see it you can see it watching do you feel that you must feel you can go on and win this premiership yeah that's right the last couple of weeks some clicked so the beliefs there it's unbelievable the excitement's there and the fans love it wait were you feeding off this crowd especially in that third quarter where you really put them to the sword it felt like you were really feeding off the crowd yeah that's right there's the bulldogs come out here and uh they dragged us in that third quarter it was unbelievable quarter and the fans were just roaring you coach at the start of the final series he wasn't talking one week at a time he was talking now we're here to win the premiership he must instill that in the players yeah that's right um you know i looked down after fremantle but the belief was still there and um it was just unbelievable the beliefs there so it's just exciting to come out here and put a shine for the fans what's going on might you become a real goal kicker in the last few weeks i must get hit in the head so congratulations mate thanks for joining us well thank you to hawthorne too for what they've provided over the years it really started in oh wait did it with that stunning win over geelong in that famous grand final moji was there that day a couple of norm smiths cyril's norm smith last year all great things to finally come to an end and matthew as we go back to you was ten goals one to five seven after half time yeah it was ten goals to five after half time luke you smashed them in the contested bullets you're doing it every week is that what you're basing your game on yeah there's lots of basic animal just of all like i think every team does but we'd like to sleep with beat on the inside and then been on the radar run on the outside so i think it's a really good performance every team does say that though but you're beating teams by plus 50 which is just unbelievable oh yeah to be honest with us we work really hard on it and we've got great coaches like john morris a lot he did it himself so and uh obviously blake's really got jacket mcrae and bond and liver in there and then yeah obviously it's going to be pretty high i'd have a look around here at the mcg 87 000 people you're into a prelim did you think it could happen so quickly i you never know i mean it seems better i mean that confidence went up and you can see them last year making the bonus you know i don't think anyone expected that and uh we're doing it again this year hopefully we can keep down you've got a bit of silk in your team how good was marcus spock and kelly tonight he's a credible player i don't know if he's ever bad is he he's an absolute star and um i don't know he's only 20 so who knows what he can become it's ridiculous isn't it 20 years of age mate leopold's in the granny tomorrow you're going to go out and look and relax i'll see how i pull up but if i don't i'm sorry boys but gather lines i hope they win well done luke it's easy you're watching finals footy on fox post game uh great scenes at the mcg we'll stay with these pictures as long as we can bob murphy what a great leader he is he's not wallowing in self-pity after doing his knee in round three against the hawks now he's out there with his teammates urging them on making sure they're right because they have a preliminary final as we heard there for the first time since 1961 55 long years the western bulldogs the sons of the screen footscray the red white and blue have been able to win a second consecutive finals game that year of course they went to the grand final and lost to hawthorne who won their first premiership the bulldogs were looking for their second all these years later hawthorne got 13 in the trophy cabinet and the bulldogs are still looking for their second and they're a chance now because they're through to the preliminary final with a magnificent win 12 12 84 hawthorne bulldogs 16 11 107. luke beveridge there he is what a coach he is turned out to be he took some beads in the amateurs from c grade to b grade to a great behind them there the grey hair the great john schultz who played in that 1961 uh game grand final the brown line medalist and a bloke who is so loved he is one of the great gentlemen of football we saw before chris grant walking around the boundary line you look at the faces on those trainers what it means to them for a team that would out twice have been almost put out of existence for peter gordon the bloke who saved them the first time to come back and begin a new a renaissance of the western bulldogs and the western suburbs in melbourne giving them hope and tonight they have put it together in the most emphatic style they were 23 points down at the 13-minute mark of the second quarter a missed opportunity as well to the to the hawks it could have been five goals down halfway through the basically the second quarter but from there the dogs took control and look beverage just having a moment of respite before his team comes in and the tumultuous scenes that we'll enjoy brad johnson 364 game champion of the western bulldogs is waiting for his beloved bulldogs to join him in the rooms for fox footy we'll be crossing to jono shortly first thoughts from you mark mcclure this is just a wonderful night for football well the game turned to the 20 minute mark when bruce had that shot and then they kicked three goals in a row just to finish off and wonder josh dunkley and two to clay smith before half time and you can get a sense then that they had a they had a sniff of winning this game and then they kicked them after that was eight of the next nine goals so that really set the game up for them let's listen to the natural sound here as they go in oh [Applause] yes [Applause] hey [Applause] oh [Applause] david [Applause]
