[Music] hi guys I'm glad you're all here thank you very much for joining me it is Sunday August 25th 2024 Dr Anthony FY the former top us infectious disease expert spent some time in the hospital after being infected with West Nile Virus um he evidently is now recovering at home a spokesperson confirmed yesterday yeah he was in the hospital and they're just now telling us about it Anthony FY who is a American physician scientist and immunologist who served as the Director of the National Institute of allergy and infectious disease from 1984 to 2022 and was the chief medical advisor to the president from 2021 to 2022 he's currently 83 years old and lives I believe in Brooklyn New York it was reported that Dr FY probably caught the virus um likely from a mosquito bite um in his own bag backyard West Nile Virus is commonly spread through the bite of an infected mosquito While most people don't experience symptoms about one in five can develop a fever headache body aches vomiting and diarrhea um maybe a rash according to the CDC when in about 150 people who are infected develop a serious sometimes fatal illness West Nile Virus was first detected in the US in 1999 it has now been detected I believe in 33 States and so far this year 216 human cases of West Nile have been reported symptoms typically appear between 3 and 14 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito serious complications include menitis paralysis and death that can occur but it is much more rare affecting one in about 150 people people over the age of 60 are at a higher risk and FY is in fact 83 years old there are no specific treatments or vaccine for the West Nile Virus you know they say that emptying standing water from common items around your home is important uh yeah make sure the bird baths are cleaned out flower pots things like that but interesting um the swamp Marsh mosquito that mosquito can actually travel anywhere between 75 to 100 miles from its home and it also is a vector for the West Nile Virus the best thing probably is to uh stay indoors when it starts getting dark when the mosquitoes seem to come out more but you know they are out at all different times of the day and did you hear how they're in I believe it's Massachusetts they're asking people to stay indoors because of a virus um that one person only one person caught it which um can cause en sephtis it is extremely rare it's called the eastern equin and sephtis Plymouth which is a town about 40 Mi southeast of Boston announc a voluntary closure asking people to remain inside because like I said one person caught this virus and now they're yeah warning everybody about it it's also called ee infection but if if you figure that a mosquito can travel anywhere from 75 to 100 miles uh quarantining just one location isn't going to work on August 16th the state reported its first human case of EE um it was in a man in his 80s according to the CDC the disease is so rare that only 11 human cases have been reported in the United States annually so now they're asking people to um lock themselves in their homes we're just getting so overly protective um paranoid um that's my opinion um there's really nothing you can do unless you want to live in a bubble so what are your thoughts put your comments down below thank you very much for watching please like share and subscribe and I'll talk to you later God bless yall bye [Music] a [Music]
