[Music] talking about the sports show time to talk about rowing that's because there's been a fair bit happening so we thought we'd get the two superstars from sassy another two captains ella bramworth joins us along with jed ortega hey thanks for coming in guys let's start with you first ella so uh i've looked at the record here bass just so you know what she did on the weekend mate won the final at the state champs and the women's open rowing eight then the coxless pairs first in that first in the open women's eight first in the opens women's single skull yeah and then she thought well let someone else win mate so she came second making the open women's cockless four i can tell you has a tough sport rowing we know that yeah i would have been in intensive care after that first one give me the intensive care after the announcement ella tell us about it it was a terrific weekend for you out of those events is there a favorite uh the favorite would have to be the open women's eight um just because we've won it for seven years now adelaide rowing club and um yeah it was just so good we had three eights out on the water which was a record number for any club so our club boated three eights with so that's 27 girls um which just shows how well rowing's doing especially female rowing recently in south australia has really picked up and then yeah to win it was great that's a record breaking record yep yeah do you say that you've the your club has won this seven seven times seven times in a row yeah that's the longest record of consecutive wins in south australia how how much does the team change over that period is a is there a lot of the same yeah there's a lot of familiar faces so yesterday with it being international women's day we put out a post with a photo of every every crew that's won it in the last seven years and we i've done it five times a couple other people have done it five or times and then it's sort of more you two three so so okay you're coming down to the big event on the weekend you know that you know all the people that are going to be rowing with you in that obviously you know them yes got a star got an up and coming someone just jumped in the boat now and you're going whoa hang on we got one here we've gotta be good to get in the team anyway yeah yeah so we had the same boat as last year but two out and turn you in so we had a one the new younger under 21 girls lucy kittle who came across from scotch and so she was in and yeah there's a lot of pressure now wouldn't it sorry there's a lot of pressure now if you've won seven in a row oh yeah you've got to back it up again yeah actually you're gonna back up again yeah you're gonna be the first crew to lose lose the strength yeah that's the pressure now we won't invite you back here yeah i know oh that'll be one of the reasons too so all the smart money is to look ahead and go this boat's no good and pull out talk about lucy just for a minute she comes in how long does it take for the crew to get used to lucy and lucy to get used to you guys coming into the point so she's been training with the club this is her second year so she's used to how things sort of work around and so it's it's not doesn't make that much of a difference to be honest but when she first gets in the boat you know the first couple of times it take a while to get used to it um yeah well i mean each rowing boat has its own rhythm and way that the stroke and the coach likes it to be rowed um and yeah but i think she adapted really well all right let's talk about you jen you know a fantastic week makes six races growing one great australian record by the way yeah but didn't make the team mate yeah can you help me out with that yeah so we had uh we had senior uh senior and paris election in sydney last week so i've been away for a couple of weeks um and you know it's it's racing boats so i had an amazing week we start the uh we start the selection process with the 2k ergo on the saturday and i've got it probably selection week i've been to world championships twice and and wrote some international events as well but selection week would have to be by far the most stressful week to put yourself through because i guess there's no you haven't made a team yet you haven't made a boat yet so you're still wanting that and yet it's a drawn out process you never really know what the selectors are doing or thinking or how they're looking at it um and then yeah we 2k ergo and then uh pretty well straight into seat racing for 1500s and then we headed out and another day later and did two 2ks and you just compare you basically just come up with a cumulative figure of time however they're looking at it and then uh yeah it's it's it's how you how you're sitting in at the end of it so i was a couple of seconds off after after all six races uh which is extremely tight um and unfortunately yeah it didn't make the boat but uh i was named reserve so at this stage that's kind of my my job do you feel stiff not to make this i mean you've got a very very good record here yeah great record and i mean the journey for me started four years ago when i decided to look at rowing as a pathway to you know to to be a part of um you know an australian paralympic team and um there's part of me that yeah absolutely feel you know like it sucks and it hurts but i mean i have to admit i had a really good week i tried i raced really well and and um i it and that's just racing boats you know it's it's there's four there's three we're racing four so there's three other people in the boat and you don't quite know how it's going to fall someone one two three people may have a really good row or whatever and they've got to come up with a a there's got to be a margin there and after four races there was next to no margin and we had to keep going and um and then there was a margin found so you know at the end of the day i'm happy uh that i got to you know be in the boat that broke the australian record so on one hand i know i know i'm going quick and i know we're going quick and then on the other hand obviously not making the team um you know is is disappointing but the journey hasn't quite stopped for me being uh being the reserve so i guess you know any good reserves just got to be ready to step in the boat when they're needed the parasite of thing is is basically some athletes without going too much of a detail there's some athletes that need some classification uh done around their impairment and that's the main reason i've been brought into as a reserve so there needs to be some overseas travel for that and obviously we know the risk going on there so that's sort of my job and we'll see how we go over the next couple of months and and see see what happens so business as usual pretty much does the reserve travel uh at this stage the reserve because we're not going other than the athletes that need to go get their classification looked at we're not having any international races until tokyo so we're all our camp-based camp-based training will be just in australia yeah um i'll be going to that and tokyo this stage i won't be going to so so you're reserved for a boat in going to tokyo yeah so you don't go with that but no no if we get to the point where tokyo is going ahead and and and i mean that's a whole another huge crazy issue whether that's happening um and and like a sort of speaking off here you know there's a two-week bubble that's that's that's basically involved in that and then you know that's all going to be in canberra and then the athletes will go over just for their event come back quarantine for two weeks so it's probably a five six week process at that stage if if we're good to if it's not really happening for me that's that's you know when i'm basically not going i'll be a travelling reserve they don't want to really take any reserves over yeah the last minute they're one of the less people over there the better if you know what i mean they need to mitigate their risks with the reserves but yeah that's kind of where it's at it's a really interesting one with you two sitting together because you go the olympics course cancelled postponed because it covered july 23rd they're supposed to start and then roll on from there yeah so you're unsure whether that may occur yeah ellie you're the under 23 so it's not you go oh yeah good luck with your training mate because i'm going to get a great trip i'm off to the world you're not going anywhere either yeah yeah i'm interested in the mindset you first person how you maintain the purpose of training when there's really not potentially something to train for like you can make the you make the australian team but you're not really going to go anywhere yeah so i mean it's interesting and it just i guess it comes down to why you do the sport so i do it because i enjoy it and i think it's fun um even though sometimes it's not i've never thought that on the year she's also very handy and i like it because it's something you can develop at um and get better at but yeah i mean obviously doing those things is really cool and that's um a great motivator but for me this isn't the sort of way i want my rowing career to end this isn't the final point like i'd like to keep going with it and see how far i can take it so it's just looking forward to bigger longer term goals and then still ticking off the short-term goals like we've got nationals coming up and you know that's going to hopefully happen and that's a place where you can try and you know get tick off some goals and then making the national team potentially uh trials that's another goal to take off yeah what about you how do you find it uh well mo it's it's you know motivation's been uh a little interesting obviously with what covers um sort of dealt up for us but yeah it's it's the short ha it's it's understanding the long-term goals and for someone i guess they're a bit different ella's young you know she's got 23 teams and looking at senior teams i'm not young and and so what are you 33 34 wow so it's all downhill for me it's like it is the short it's it's breaking it down it's like all right i i wanted to make yeah there's still a huge question mark over tokyo but i fought like hell last week to make the boat still it was like that's a goal for me and then from now on you know you know there's more goals to come so it's been hard for everyone with the motivation side of things but it's you know it's it's made their own grow as well yeah i appreciate both of you coming in great to see you so positive and terrific of you ella to let someone win a race sir last weekend no we have to go mate we're busy they'll have to come back and tell us more of their stories they're on on the weekend aren't they well we'll get them back to talk about what happened okay right appreciate you coming here good to go stay with us
