[Music] [Music] n [Music] good evening Illinois lands their second transfer of the off season that's right second for those keeping count number two this isn't their first uh the wing Trey white from Louisville and I'm not going to lie I know very little about him and I'm going to learn about him with some of you who may if you know anything about Trey white please let me know drop it in the chat I'm gonna do a little scouting as we're conversing back and forth uh it's going to be a very busy week of content here at Ali cast we've got uh uh a NFL Draft preview for some of our football players uh that'll be tomorrow and uh we have a Austin and I we going to basically go over some of the potential transfer editions possibilities which I think we're going to record Thursday night and then this weekend I'll be out of the country I'll be uh standing as best man uh at one of my best friends's wedding so trying to not be lazy up until then and try to give you guys uh what I promised uh uh I give you guys and that's as much content as possible as soon as possible um as some of you know whoever follows me on Twitter at Aline icast I got win that uh we could have some news soon and I was like okay well I hope this news doesn't drop before uh I land and sure enough basically almost as I landed we had uh okay perfect hold on I'm gonna bring on very special guest Austin thank you for coming on oh I'm not a guest I'm the coost and cheek um so again I as I just told the crowd uh Austin and I are going to actually go through our other transfer options um in a show later on this week so we're not going to talk so much about those guys yet we're going to limit this episode to more so of uh Trey white but awesome do you know anything about this guy great offensive player defensively needs some work but what better Coach to work on defense than and a guy that has a treadmill in the corner of abin and a guy that likes to use his bench for motivation so I think this is a perfect fit for what Trey white wants to be and that's an NBA player and there there's some aspects that he has to improve his game upon and Brad Underwood is going to do his damnedest to help him get to the place that he wants to be and that's the NBA agreed uh again that's what I also saw my brief Scouting Report uh since I we all kind of found out this was happening I was trying to do as much research as I could um it he's supposed to be an NBA player uh well he's got NBA Talent uh I think he was what rated number 35 I believe in the 2022 class coming out yeah right behind sky Clark right former former uh Ali obviously but um you know he had a decent Year all freshman team in in the Pack 12 rip Pack 12 and then he transferred to Louisville and Louisville obviously did not have the success that uh he was probably projecting himself but I don't know about you Austin but I don't count playing for last year's Louisville team I think that is such a disastrous situation to begin with uh with a coach who was a dead man walking who again it was one of the worst teams not just in all of college basketball period so I'm not sure that a player like white was able to get the you know the the structure the the culture that a guy like him probably needs to grow as a player and if I'm thinking about it more thoroughly that's probably why he was so interested in coming to Illinois where at this point we're starting to develop a habit of you know having a winning culture and kind of taking in transfers and helping them Reach the levels and Peaks that they want to get I mean I have you ever worked for a company that you just didn't respect any of the bosses or anything like the company culture was just trash I feel like like please don't make me that right like that that was more a rhetorical question but most of our listeners can probably relate to that if you work for a Bad Company no matter if you're the best person on the job the best sales person the best accountant the best it person anything in that company it's very tough to wake up and think you know what I'm G to make a great impact on the company today and I'm going to feel appreciated everything's going to be great at Louisville that is so hard as a player to just feel that motivation to get up and go to work and and feel like you're making an impact and then you're going to do great things on an eight- win team I mean that is where I think the Underwood culture the Ali winning the just Fortune 500 nature that BR Underwood has this Alana program at I think that's what's going to draw a lot of people in so that's where I think it's going to help um help Trey reach his potential is that he's going to be round guys that are all about winning under a coach that has won at the highest levels I know there's a lot of people kind of underwhelmed uh by you know Trey white and a lot of it I do think uh it's because it's kind of happened out of nowhere it's not a guy who was even remotely in my radar um in particular today and yesterday when let's be honest a lot of really really good basketball players enter the transfer portal and a lot of guys who have already been you know rumored to um be linked to the Ali and again Austin will Austin and I will get into more in- depth with that a little bit later but the fact that Brad and Company took this commitment this early tells me that there's something about Trey white that they really like and that the diff deficiencies he might have is something that they feel like they can fit obviously he's a 6' 7 Wing Brad Underwood has a type and that's it you know Jake Davis was another 6 foot6 Wing that can shoot uh I I think I'm trusting this more on a bigger level because I trust Brad Underwood so much and the staff I do think you know with him getting to work with Fletch a little bit that if not next year but at least in two years the plan is that white could be a very productive starter for the Ali where he's going to fit on the roster I'm sure you and I can talk about in a few minutes but uh you know again a lot of Ali fans are a little underwhelmed by this and I can understand why we we kind of got a sniff of all the studs uh entering the transfer portal essentially and this is probably not exactly the most overwhelming uh exciting name but again you just keep in mind two years ago he was the number 35 Prospect uh on 247 I think he's rated the number 92 transfer uh player in this cycle but domas was 80s something when we got him last year so I don't know how much value I put in that I put value in who Brad and the staff like and it to me the fact that they took on this recruit or this commitment this early with so many good players out there still tells me they like him a lot Talent evaluation is Brad Underwood's strongest suit at this particular moment I think he figured out a lot about character issues after the two years ago team but Talent evaluation has never been anything that Brad Underwood has been overly wrong about he took some swings early on with like a Georgie bashes and it worked out he's taken swings on Andre Feliz and that's worked out Marcus damask it's worked out Matthew Meyer it worked out even with the weird Oddities that he had as a personality I think that worked out you made an NCAA tournament and he was crucial down the stretch run of that tournament and he was all big 10 team yeah you look at Trey white this is a pure play of we know that we can harness something out of him that that Louisville hasn't that UC USC hasn't and that's where I just put ultimate faith in BR Underwood it like you said Marx damask was uh not that highly rated of a recruit recruited transfer pardon me I think a lot of this is about fits whenever you get transfers in and out of programs and I think this could be a huge fit because it fits BR Underwood's mold of staying old and long Wings span and being tall so this is going this is going to be the way of the Jungle I feel like for Brad Underwood I mean hand up last year in our incoming transfer class the only player that I would say I was excited for was uh the fact that we finally landed Quincy you know when it came to damask I was kind of indifferent when it came to Justin Harmon you know obviously he played at a really small school I I would say my level of enthusiasm was tempered a little bit but you know as you said like I think Underwood and staff they go over tape you know um Trey White's work with Tim Anderson before in high school like he I think he dabbled uh in the aaou scene with Tim Anderson so this was this wasn't a brad decision I think this must have been a staff decision and if it's a staff decision then after their performance last year I'm not going to sit here and say I don't like this move um initially again I don't know if I was just getting influenced by a lot of the Louisville fans who kind of weren't too upset about him leaving that I was kind of underwhelmed myself but the more I thought about it the more I kind of read up on the guy and saw what he was good at and what he was you know maybe not as good at I think Brad zeroed in zeroed in on the guy basically thought that he could be a valuable piece to the team and if he's willing to take him on with a lot of the bigger names out there that tells me that you know he's got scholarships to give and he's got room to you know bring him bring a new guy onto the basketball team and uh so I trust Brad I'm at that point I trust Brad yeah I trust Brad fully on what Vision he brings to the Ali and what's up so what's up Kevin uh thank you for joining us once again I feel like you're just always on and we always appreciate it when you join the show but Brad Underwood and he trusts Tim Anderson I think feel like Tim Anderson is like the inside CIA of these guys because he just works with so many of these guys and knows what their knows their traits knows more about them than I think they know about themselves it feels like because that's just who he is as an NBA trainer and getting guys ready for the NBA so having a guy like Tim Anderson and his insights on players and how they work individually just is so invaluable that he's a guy that I never want to lose to another job like because he just does so much good to help this program out um with his individual uh side gig essentially of what he does for these uh guys getting ready for the NBA yeah I mean you know with all the talk of the possibility of Brad Underwood leaving you know that itself would be heartbreaking but I know we could we're in a position now as a program that we would get a very very good coach to take Brad Underwood's place but on equal footing almost I would be as upset that we'd probably lose Tim Anderson as an assistant coach a guy who just gets the Chicago scene and like you said you know he's has a long history of just developing top-notch players and developing relationships and having it you know come to fruition and so I I completely agree you know and I think we had someone mentioned that he played for the MAC Irvin fire with uh um with Trey white uh Philip says Austin your volume is a little low just a little heads up I don't know yeah I don't have my microphone with me okay fair enough fair enough okay Biz thank you for chiming in kilan Boswell just got a crystal ball uh yeah I mean I Austin and I will kind of get more in depth with that in a couple days I think a lot of the crystal balls right now are very just lazy crystal balls everyone's saying it's going to happen so they kind of want to be the first one in I mean I've said the same thing I think it's a natural fit I thought it's the one name i' had been keeping my eye on um for a while to see whether he would or whether he wouldn't obviously with his relationship with champagne um he's in the transfer portal now we'll see what happens but you want to drop any small thoughts on uh Boswell Austin not so much Boswell the thing that Eli fans have to prepare themselves for there's a reason why Brad Underwood is talking to a lot of these guys there will be some attrition of this current Ali basketball roster guys that we didn't expect to be leaving are going to are going to leave do I have any of those names no do I have any inside sources on that no those conversations are always evolving and whenever a guy comes into to the portal then an Aline player might say hey uh this team has a hole on this roster now so I might just go see if there's greener pastures over here and there's a reason why they're talking to Boswell there's a reason why they're talking to store there's a reason why they're talking to these big seven-footers um as well yes there are positional needs there from what's leaving this current Elana roster but the math is not mathing up at this particular moment with the amount of guys that elen way is currently in on so be prepared for that Alina fans it will be tough there could be some fan favorites that are suddenly gone out of this program but I have got to trust Brad Underwood there's been C C guys like Brandon F jimsky that have gone on to do great things um with their new school but that was again at Santa Clair University yes he was a first round pick in the NBA who knows if he does that in the Big 10 um as another year older who knows so just be prepared don't freak out whenever you see your fan favorite leave the program it it will happen and you just got to be trustworthy that Brad knows who we can bring in and what his current Outlook is on the roster offensively and defensively I can't say enough how important it's just just wait to see what our roster going to look like the first game of the season because yeah we might be losing players that we think you know we've grown attached to uh players that we think are going to play a huge role for a li ey basketball but you know who knows a line ey basket basketball more than you more than me more than most of us watching stream is Brad Underwood and the staff so we may lose a name now but I want to see who they replace that name with down the road you know if we lose a guy like Nico Moretti or you know I know sincec here said he came back I don't know for me I got weird Vibes of it I'm not sure if it's locked in yet but if we lose a guy like it doesn't feel like there's anything too terribly official on that it just feels like he's saying the right things just in case the right option doesn't come along um outside of champagne so I think he's staying in the good graces of BR Underwood and doesn't want to burn any particular Bridge not that it's burning a bridge anymore in the transfer portal portal era um but I think he's just keeping all options open at this particular moment so Brad Underwood can't really quote unquote recruit on top of him um essentially so I I think sin here is playing this really smart I think you need to wait until the very last minute sometimes to enter the portal um based on on the roster construction so sinceer is playing this well I have to see him in an in Alina uniform to really truly believe that he is on this roster next year and I'm a guy where sincer Harris was my favorite player on the team two years ago I loved everything about him and if you go back and watch uh the episode where we found out he was red shirting I was genuinely bummed out about it but if he decides to leave will that be sad yes but if a week later we get a commitment from like Dante Mattis or you know a Boswell that type of player well guess what we've upgraded our basketball team and ultimately that's what I want as a fan that's what I want to see I want my team competing for elite eights final fours and inevitably that national championship and the best way to do that is not by just being attached to every freshman that comes in through uh the doors it's to put the best players on the court at any given time so I mean the era has changed you know Ian it is what it is at this point you know it's it's not like we uh we follow a high school senior who commits and then you know they grow in the program yeah Purdue does it and Purdue does it very well I give them credit but you know what they also had a generational player in zakti now we'll see what they look like next year you know um they've got some really good young players coming in and obviously they don't play the transfer Portal game as aggressively as we do or as a lot of other teams do we'll see if that style of system still works because it's not working so much in at Michigan State it's you know again we'll we'll kind of see let me I mean look at look at Kentucky the one and D era is done yeah um he gets all the five star freshman and then the minute they play against a couple 23 year olds they act like they never played a single game of basketball before and I think that scares Brad Underwood to death and I mean I know that a lot of L fans were upset about the decommitment of uh J slipping Jason Butler yeah a lot of guys a lot of Al fans were upset about that yes I realize that you can't live off the transfer portal but he's a guy that wasn't going to make an impact for another couple years I fully believe and I think Brad Underwood it's keeps him up at night to have sky Clark and jayen EPS take uh massive opportunities um in big games and squander them away for the Ali so I think that is what keeps Underwood up at night and that's why the whole Mantra of get old stay old is gonna be so relevant for this at program Kevin says I love the get I've watched multiple Cardinal games and this dude popped off the screen in games I saw was probably their best player 6 fo7 top 50 kid a couple years ago plus he has two years left Brad Underwood looking long-term not just next season yeah I mean if he was a top 35 Prospect uh two years ago that has to make him one of the highest prospects we've ever had in an Illinois uniform right I mean trying to think it's got to be top five at least H Philip sky Clark was up there when he committed yeah that that's the one name that uh jumped out at me but I didn't want to mention him twice in the same show yeah yeah agreed but uh yeah I I think knowing his athletic skills and the way Underwood coaches I think it's a dreeme fit scenario for a guy like Trey white to be coachart and be a part of a winning program and that alone can motivate a guy to go that extra mile play that defensive uh package a little little harder so I I think this is a match made in heaven and I've said this before on this show a couple times now what I love about Brad Underwood is I think he's kind of seen where the game has gone in the NBA and he's kind of incorporating it into college um before most other people are and Trey white has the size the athleticism of what an NBA Wing looks like and so you know again with Jake Davis already here with um Trey white here now it's I just think it's another asset that we have and we have the coaching and the development plan in place to make white uh more an AET I guess you can say that he was in his first two years he had a solid freshman year last year he was you know admittedly pretty disappointing at least if you talk to Cardinals fans but um you know we'll see what happens Kevin also says we have three spots left for me I like Carrie Booth who I believe will be in Champagne this weekend that is correct and Boswell and Maddox um if we got those three Brad Underwood put his legs up on the couch and smoked the nicest cigar he wanted to because that'd be one hell a transfer portal season absolutely and that would be uh kudos to those nil donors uh for sure um to make Illinois such a strong financial position to get the talent like that so that would be a heck of a portal for both icon and Brad Underwood and Kevin I would say you know just to comment on your first sentence we have three spots left uh just not to Circle back on that first conversation but we have no idea how many spots back uh how many spots we have left um I don't think we've heard the last of uh what our what the attrition could look like on our uh on our roster but the staff knows and that's really honestly the only people that need to know Philip says white kind of fits the same role as store does that means does that means Illinois is turning away from pursuing store I don't think so I don't think so I think store is probably the number one process ECT on the board that we have unless we go after I know we're going after him but you know the Stanford guy uh Ray St is Terrence is Diet Terence Shannon Jr he is not as fast as Terrence but he is that number one guy that BR Underwood I think realized okay I like having a guy and store will be that man for br Underwood in the Eli ey so Trey white is more of a depth piece that can slip into the starting rotation um and not uh not a guy that will replace store essentially store right now is like a B+ version of Terence Shannon and but he's also two years younger so he's got some development to do as well um what we saw of him last year was in a system that he didn't really fit very well in so you know I if we got store I know you know some shows out there wouldn't be nearly as excited I would be super excited I think that would be huge hole uh in our roster fi Kevin says yeah I'd like store of course but what if people but what if what people are saying about money I'd pass it's not it's not your money I I was just gonna say that Kevin it's not our money it's you know I mean Illinois is uh very lucky when it comes to our nil compared to some of the competitors in the Big 10 um and we're right up there maybe not with the Kies but we're absolutely uh in that level right below and using a pro baseball analogy since there's no salary cap we are very much like where the Chicago Cubs are at in payroll essentially in college basketball we are in that second tier um not so much the LA Dodgers but we're not like the Chicago White Socks or um the Oakland A's okay like we are going to get Talent through our nil yeah and it it's one of those um our football team gets no love with money and nil uh funds and so you know we kind of see our competitors blow past us when it comes to kind of Landing some of the best prospects so you know what I want to be selfish as heck when it comes to the basketball team if we do have the ability to go after some of the best prospects and offer them the best situation financially I want us to work that Justin Adams AO I'm late how are you Justin Justin check him out at the voice of college football Nebraska and also my co-host on Big 10 show Kenosha three-point shooter Mark Smith had was high ranked but he was trash that's a name I haven't heard in a while yeah that was a little Flash not think of him after Illinois has been successful Kevin also Jes and I prefer a transfer guy instead of a high school recruit I still think you need both uh you know you do need develop velmental guys I think that'll ultimately help with depth and uh you know maintaining an Illinois culture especially if you find the right guys like Coleman I think right now you know the fact that he had played four years in an Ali uniform he represents what the Ali culture was to some of the new guys you know like if if we're just constantly rotating in eight nine 10 guys every single year maybe Brad can do it but I also think if at least three four of those guys are guys who understand what Illinois basketball's kind of all about and kind of at least you know keep the culture in the locker room I think uh personally that just means a better basketball team I think it'll be a 6535 blend uh going forward like 65 transfers 35% recruits um kind of thing that way say you can still build off of your home base of recruiting Illinois and that special kid that loves Illinois from Florida like a Trent Frasier or something and those are the guys that you're going to build with um a Coleman Hawkins type who just wants to grow and develop as a player and then the 65% is going to be the transfers that you pull in maybe they're multi transfers so like a Terence Shannon who are still growing with the program but not just a flash in the pan kind of deal this episode's uh it's for callbacks now we had uh Adam Miller reference Adam just missed the cut for McDonald's game so he was top 35 I think I think you're right Kevin check it out how are you sir thank you for chiming in today oddly enough as Illinois signs new guys we have to worry about guys decommitting I mean that's just that's what every team in the country is deal with yeah I mean that's just that's just what every it's not just us that's everybody um Maurice what if domask comes back if domask is somehow able to come back domas will I have a spot on this roster the the staff will figure it out whatever it takes uh I don't think Marcus has to worry about that but from what I know as my as my former co-host Jeremy Warner said on the Jeremy Warner show Brad Underwood can count and he can count the scholarships he'll figure it out um and if Marcus comes back then uh who knows Trey white might just go right back out to the old portal again and and make it work I mean that's the kind of position that you just got to be flexible in the NCAA is very unpredictable I believe that it's like a 30% shot that domask would come back it's low um but you never know the NCA could just be like you know what we don't want to fight another court case so let's go ahead and do it if marus theas threatens a lawyer so there could be that situation but I'm not counting on that yeah uh White is replacing Quincy uh maybe I don't know again it'll be easier to see once I finally see what our roster looks like on who's playing who white could be a another Quincy he could be you know a smaller Coleman he could uh I don't know like again I don't I'm I'll see who's here when they're here like is Luke coming back you know like all these names I guess we'll find out Justin uh very tongue and cheek I heard Illinois is going to be terrible next year according to my sources your sources need to stick with your own Nebraska basketball team who have no players left hey I heard um I heard eleno is not in a future top 25 list um for next year I mean we might as well just cancel the podcast Sun I mean call it a day it's over with Illinois had their chance it's done zo those lists are so ridiculous like I don't know what people are thinking like in the like Illinois is a perfect example we have maybe like four or five guys that we know for sure I would didn't know for sure like we don't know who's confirmed to come back and I don't know clicks matter I guess all right Kevin following up on his previous comment about store not about the money more so where is he mentally we need guys that buy in I mean I don't think it's an either or I mean I don't he bought in and he was getting a lot of money yeah and I think store is locked in from what I've been told that he wants to go to the NBA he thinks he's in the he thinks he's an NBA player now now and that's why he's kind of exploring that option I don't think the rest of us see it that way but I think if you take some money here he's coming here because he thinks Brad can turn him into a tence Shannon Jr an All-American and a high draft pick in the NBA so I I think I wouldn't be too worried about that Kevin what do you all think of our chances of getting either Coleman or Marcus back or both uh slim slim and super slim for Coleman the conversation is this he's probably going to be around pick number 5502 to 60 in the NBA draft and that's kind of where I would assuma was drafted um in the NBA Draft so I feel that Colman will get a two-way contract similar to what IO did and that will massively impact his decision and where he thinks he's gonna get money from and the NBA will win out this year I feel like yeah I mean I've shared my thoughts on Coleman before I think I think he wants to go to the NBA also but at some point you know with the feedback that he gets I think you know our nil you know company just needs to see what they can do to offer uh Coman a money that would far surpass what he can make in the NBA and uh I think we're capable of it again I hope not I hope Coleman can go to the NBA and be a successful NBA player with a successful professional career but if for whatever reason he can't come back you know he's already talked about only playing 30 or sorry 60% uh this year with that lingering leg injury let's see what he looks like uh fully healed yeah I mean and and at that point though you don't want to risk another long-term injury that an NBA executive can Pok and Broad you about so I think that is a detriment a little bit to Illinois's favor in terms of his long-term basketball career there isn't a right or wrong path to team building teams are winning with different strategies teams are winning with different strategies and our very own head coach Brad Underwood is winning with different strategies uh you know just look at his career U one thing I've always appreciated about him is that when he recognizes something doesn't work he's willing to shift his strategy he's trying you know he he'll try something else and uh again I think we're very fortunate in that regard Philip says doing callbacks what if carbello didn't have the concussion issues and developed his sophomore year and was a fifth year senior next year that's gonna be the ultimate one wha ifs I feel like carello yeah the Brad Underwood era I feel like carbello is the number one wh if in his career he was so electric when he was fully healthy and then that concussion happened and like I I really hope he's okay mentally because I mean there are some moments where you're watching Southern Miss and he gets some weird technical foul calls like I fully just hope that Andre carbello doesn't have any long-term effects of his concussion symptoms and everything because that can be scary um but yeah if he would have stuck around and you would had kbello passing to a likes of Terence Shannon that would been pretty uh pretty cool to watch especially alyo games and that fast break with those two with his one-handed passes would have been just amazing to see Ty Rogers thank you for coming in uh I'm pretty sure that's the Ty Rogers by the way um he was a teammate of Coman Hawkins at prolific prep will Coman return maybe just a dreamer see I didn't even know that so you pointed that out to me Ty I appreciate that uh again I'm trying do as much I was literally about to board a flight when I found out this could happen uh it happened pretty much right as I landed so I'm trying to do as much um Gathering of details as I can check it out it says did damask hire tsj is lawyer I'm not sure well we're not touching that one yeah uh this Elite eight run is going to pay off for us in the portal I can feel it you guys want the big stage I'm excited for next season yeah that we've uh as a lineup fans we've had a stigma you know uh we can't make it to the second weekend and a lot of opposing fan bases have kind of been using that against us and if fan bases are using that against us you assume coaching staffs are using that against us but last year we were I'm just going to say we were the most fun team to watch uh offensively uh so any recruit who is even thinking about um coming to the Ali who watched us on TV saw how much fun we were having on the court and also you know how we went viral after every win the the the players the staff there the super soers it was a team that just looked like they were having fun trust me I don't think that was by mistake that every single one of those videos always happened to get leaked you know Brad Underwood had a reputation with h you know a couple guys leaving the program of being a little hard I think it was by design that this coaching staff releases those type of videos to show that uh you know we have a just a fun culture we're focused on winning and now we are winning again Elite 8 run in my opinion I'm going to die with this opinion we're the third best team uh in the uh in the tournament at the very least I would have loved a rematch against Purdue but we weren't going to beat Yukon and I know some of you didn't like me saying that uh in our preview but um we scored eight more points than uh Purdue I believe let's see uh Jeffrey I have a feeling the four coming are gonna please so do I especially if if we nail even like two of the big names that are being mentioned I think we'll be in pretty good shap shape Iowa was pick 30 I think that was the NBA draft right philli I think is that what you're referring to yeah yeah I misspoke in I was thinking NFL draft uh round numbers Kevin says I think Coleman's done just to guess I also would rather he just move on not because I don't want him the NBA knows what he is in my opinion there's a place on someone's roster I hope so you know again I want him to make a lot of money uh he's been he's a rarity now in college sports for a guy who will come in um as a pretty decently ranked uh recruit not necessarily get the most minutes the most padded stats uh your freshman year your sophomore year but through four years just casually level up get better and better nowadays you know these guys uh they don't get the time on the court that they were promised or think they were promised uh they're going to leave after the first year so I I hope Coleman gets everything he wants uh in his professional career uh yeah I just saw Christopher Morell launch a grand slam so CBS are up four nothing not that it means anything after last night but I just wanted to alert the audience on that I had plus plus one and a half hits runs and RBI so that I got that with one swing of the bat amazing uh Kos yeah uh p is my biggest Ali what if because he literally never got a chance I a lot of a lot of people are not going to ever let that go and I get it you know especially seeing him being as successful as he is uh in the NBA I do Wonder like I would love to sit down with Brad Underwood and you know say hey off the Record what did you see in Brandon but I mean at the same time that team was loaded you know we had a carbello we had Trent Frasier we had uh Adam Miller Adam Miller like who was he going to play over yeah um Philip if carbello stayed then we probably don't go get sky Clark who knows how things change is that a good or bad thing I don't know why it's just an opening of glass doors it's crazy exactly check it out Ty we know we you're in the chat let us know what have you heard which one of your teammates are staying and uh which ones are leaving doas said Brad is soft well yeah see again it's just for all the Smiths you know the uh the Jaden EPS the people who obviously didn't get along with Brad Underwood you have guys like domask tsj IO who just who would have taken a bullet for the guy and so I don't know big on Javon Javon small at PG yeah I mean I would be very happy if we ended up getting him as our starting point card and he's probably like third or fourth on my actual list so that tells you how many good players are in the transfer portal right now I mean it's crazy right now with the wave of players that entered the portal today which we'll get into on Thursday but you had some big- time mid major players enter today you had the sixth and seventh men on these blue blood or top of their conference last year kind of teams joined the portal today and it's just crazy like how do you prioritize as a coach like I want to like interview like a head coach on do you go after the guys that were the stars that I'm in major or the guys that are trying to um find a new location after they kind of squandered a chance uh maybe at a blue blood I mean it's just crazy all the different scenarios that you can go through um with the way the portal has been shaking out today and all the talent that's coming in awesome we got uh various through all platforms we got 240 people watching here and yet we only have 11 likes on this video does that make sense to you it does not I think we need to up the likes we need to get some uh more subscribers uh possibly if you're not subscribed uh just hit that subscribe button and then comment as well just so you can uh be a part of the conversation as well exactly let us know you here like I said I'm going to be as aggressive as possible uh during the off seon um to try to get on and uh give you guys an outlet a place to talk about whatever news you know whether it's a commitment whether it's a decommitment uh coaching staff change whatever it might be now Maurice I'm I'm Gonna Leave Maurice's question for you first what do you think about Kareem Abdul Jabar Kareem Abdul K Abdul Jabar I've watched him twice in person against uh Southern Illinois one in terot one in Carbondale and he is as advertised as a player is he a fit for Illinois I don't think so with the way that Brad kind of wants to spread things around play quick I I don't know if Robbie fits that mold I I feel he fits a mold for sure in a division one power five power four program absolutely I think he's better than St Louis University where he may just go to follow his head coach um so I hope he doesn't just settle for St Louis University I hope he goes somewhere else um and becomes a mega star um because I I just feel like he's bigger than that College in the A10 um but I don't think it's in Illinois even though he is a Chicago area kid I agree I think um I think he has the potential to be one of the five biggest names in uh college basketball next year if he goes to the right situation but I don't know if it's just my lack of sleep but I feel like I remember reading that he had one of those uh do not contact UM his uh transfer portal so yeah like you said it sounds like he's going to uh St Louis uh to follow his coach Jeffrey says Maddox shot 40 from three yeah I mean spoil alert for Thursday he's like one of the two or three players I want most uh to commit to us Carson thank you for chiming in am I crazy for thinking White's game resembles more of a domask replacement I mean the mid-range game that he has is pretty great um his ability to get to the basket is pretty great damask also struggle defensively at times so I mean I think that you aren't too far off I believe the only thing I think uh his assist numbers aren't exactly that high and that's just raw assists and also the analytical assist who was making shots at Louisville yeah fair enough fair enough uh Kevin uh any socks fans in the building okay never mind I'll stop reading that one no I'm kidding any sock fans in the building if we don't have the most fragile lineup and it's the usual characters I have a long summer ahead of me Kevin my friend you have a long long summer um Jeffrey yes hit that like come on folks again uh thank you so much from that last video I asked if we can get to 700 I think we're at 688 at the start uh when we started this show we were at 7:04 and now Austin I'm not sure if you are keeping track like I am but on March 25th we reached our 500 subscriber yeah that was an amazing feeling and today April 9th we're at 704 at least before uh this particular show started Philip says Go Cubs go absolutely Kenosha any chance we can get Vlad golden I've always felt like we needed a big man like Isaac hos we don't need someone super talented just huge isn't he pretty much the lock he's gonna follow Dy may his uh head coach from Florida Atlantic he's going to Michigan um so I feel like golden will follow but in terms of your rationale meeting a guy like him uh the guy from Stanford I can't remember his name off the top of my head Ren renew thank you commenting that Jeff Jeff's got your back um yes I think that would be a fascinating addition uh to this team like Brad loves to uh just play piggyback on teams that he loses to um late in seasons and having bunch of six seven guys with a seven-footer uh down in the middle um that's kind of his his Jive right now uh this off season so it would not surprise me if uh rued if the academics uh can transfer over from Stanford to Illinois uh that could be a massive Domino for the salana roster but again you got to count and there's going to be spots that are going to start dwindling down and how are those spots going to impact that so um the battles between renude and golden possibly in the Big 10 next year could be rather fun yeah I hate to say it but I think Michigan's gonna be a problem again I've I really like Dusty I think he's a really good coach and some of the guys that he's bringing in with him I think are going to basically not cause just us trouble but uh we're going to see them in the top half of the conference rather later I mean we've already beat that iteration of Florida Atlantic last year so if they're just bring that show to Ann Arbor then whatever but I feel like his roster building in the future is going to be great I feel like it's going to be very beine esque um and what he's able to accomplish his calm demeanor um I feel like a lot of players will jive with that so I I am kind of excited to see how that program builds if I'm just looking at it from a pure obs deserver standpoint and not from myi Fant kosha says amier is still out there too yeah I he was one of those names that as soon as he entered the portal there was talk that he already knew where he was going and I do wonder if that kind of fell through or not um you know he's a still he very well still could maybe just as matter of a player announcing they're going to the NBA draft or something so it could like there also like be a lot of waiting games where players don't make a visit don't make a peep about where their recruitment is at in their transfer uh addition of the recruiting just because they need to wait for certain dominoes to fall and those dominoes could be a certainty and it just takes some time for those dominoes to eventually fall check it out says uh renew will be getting lots of rain not yeah we'll be getting lots of offers uh we should break the nil piggy bank to get him we don't have to break a piggy bank that's the thing we just gota yeah keep spinning we're in a really great position I feel like all right Jeffrey says I'm already excited for next season good to be an a line eye fan exactly and you know this is just one of those uh it's it's we're in good times right now you know had we gotten a round of 32 uh loss this year again I feel like the mood on these shows would be a little bit more somber but right now as you said Jeffrey it's a good time to be in Ali I still think uh out of any team in our conference we have as good of a chance to win the next National Championship uh as anybody um you know looks like kuy's making a move and you know hopefully Brad stays put and if that's the case then I just enjoy this because we don't know you know times like this can be short and all of a sudden you kind of reminisce and look back on him but uh I'm going to be enjoying every minute of it I mean it's very exciting to be an Ali ey fan even in this off season because it's almost like watching hoe Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles um where they're just like yeah we're getting saquon Barkley yeah we're getting CJ Gardner Johnson what an off season whereas some years for the Ali it's been like the Chicago Cubs where the big addition was Daniel the scalo and you're like oh no what is going on here yes will be some swings and misses that Brad Underwood has um in this because there's just so much talent in this portal so you got to realize that there will be guys saying no just because of the great players that Illinois already has at their particular positions um but the talent that illino is going to bring in no matter what positions they are no matter who they are I am so excited because I trust the talent evaluation of Brad Underwood more than nearly any coach in the NCAA that's right plenty of new guys haven't even entered the portal yet and again what's tomorrow gonna bring yeah exactly who knows you know and that includes that statement Rings true for our team too potentially so yeah uh is Illinois playing in an early season tournament next season I don't we usually find that looking up their I tried looking up their schedule because sometimes they come out like two years in a row where they announced two years of their in inseason tournaments and I couldn't find if Illinois was in one this year I know the big time matchup is going to be the University of Tennessee in Champagne uh this particular season that's gonna be a fun one how do you guys think morz is gonna Faire in the Big 10 I think morz will be able to play in any conference in the country I think uh I'm very excited to I can't wait to see what Brad does with him um you know he's just he's a very unique talent I mean honestly it's going to be so it's so amazing former years of Illinois College Basketball where a big-time freshman addition is asked to do so much on the basketball court we are in a situation where morz Johnson of all people could be a simply a sixth man on this roster yes he's going to play a lot of minutes but he's not the ride or die that if if he doesn't succeed as a freshman right away then Illinois is going to fall flat on its face it is so nice to be in a position where number one you don't have to put the weight of the world on a freshman's shoulders and say hey uh sink or swim buddy and number two where he can he can just develop a little bit and that's gonna help Illinois in the long term yeah I mean I think if if everything breaks right morz will probably play about 15 minutes a game next year um um but by year two I think we have a potential easily for um a very very high NBA draft pick and uh you know I certainly hope that's the case let's see did I miss any there's uh all right so Austin we're starting to have uh white sock fans talk to each other Jim Kevin sock fan here Eloy and Roberts are the most often injured players I've ever seen Eloy made it to game three and Luis to game seven this year I think they'll end up about 60 games under 500 so let's just go ahead and wrap up right there before we get some socks dialogue in the show I'm kidding you guys all welcome this this is called the uh Lana cast not the socks cast here yeah and yeah and we get to choose when we want to talk about the Cubs um no it's funny I came on here saying I was going to be here for 15 20 minutes and like always uh we we're about bring the conversation yeah exactly and we appreciate that we're about to hit 54 minutes and again I'm on like six hours of sleep in the last two days so uh you know I'm pretty tired Gary nice to see you uh you know he he he's uh watching us from a very um where you watching us from a Gary again the mountains of somewhere I remember uh commenting um on one of your he he's also a guy who gets upset that I don't prick the Ali to win um every game but uh yeah again we're going to be doing this as often as we can anytime there's breaking Illinois news uh myself in Austin myself me and one of the armchair Ali guys um we're be coming on we're going to give you guys an outlet again what was supposed to be a 15minute show ended up being a 55 minute show and I'll keep doing this all I ask in return is no money I don't need anything just hit that like button hit that subscribe button send it to you know whatever friends uh who might be interested in Illinois content um send it to them and uh on any final thoughts Austin yeah share it on your Facebook if you like our content and you think that the oranta Fan Nation in your own feed would like to see us um just send a screenshot of uh of you sharing it and then we'll uh post it on our Twitter and give you a shout out as well so I've been meaning to streaming uh to stream Ours from Facebook too I've just been a little lazy on that but I'll get to it Gary from the mountains of Costa I I knew I remembered it was a really cool place apprciate watch thank you for watching a line cast instead of enjoying the beautiful weather of Costa Rica 247 on a beach like I like like Jeffrey said it's good to be an ali um all right Austin uh again for you folks we're going to be recording a couple more episodes this week uh including a transfer portal like potential additions and also we're going to go over our football team and uh who may or may not have an NFL future ahead of them uh H seven episodes this week with the way the transfer portal could go this week so be on the lookout that's why I need to go to sleep so goodbye everyone Austin till next time go Cubs
