there are two reasons why Georgia is projected to be the number one team in college football this year has the best Championship odds and it's not Ohio State right two reasons why they are ranked ahead of Ohio State they're getting more love than Ohio State right because when I look at high roster and I look down the depth chart I look at that list and I'm looking at Jeremiah Smith as a true freshman I'm looking at me a bua I'm looking at the running back room the offens line just the whole thing I kind of sit there and I think well Ohio State might have a better football team than Georgia or at least a better roster on paper and that's been a lot of the buzz this off season comparing these two it feels like they're in this own their own tier of college football ahead of the Oregons and the Texas and the Alabam of the world but ultimately it comes down and it boils down to two reasons why Georgia is getting more love than the Buckeyes are first reason is Kirby Smart and it's the simplest reason he's the best coach in college football you go look at all the list everybody's got Kirby as number one now that Nick SA has retired it's almost it's it's Undisputed it's Undisputed among college football fans and experts and coaches that Kirby Smart now is the new king of the sport ahead of Nick or not ahead of Nick Savin taking Nick savin's place right Nick sa was the goat and now Kirby is on is on a similar path in terms of winning and feels like maybe we're at the beginning of something in terms of watching what Georgia football is becoming a potential Dynasty it seems like they're at the start of that well when you compare Georgia to Ohio State one of the biggest things that leans Georgia's way is the head coaching spot with Kirby and Ryan day has been the head coach for Ohio State for a few years has led them to college football playoffs has led them to to Big Bowl wins right but he hasn't LED them to a national championship and now they've lost to Michigan three times in a row there's pressure and it's hard to make an excuse for a coach or or anybody when you have TJ Stout and Marvin Harrison Jr and all that Talent like that you have over the last few years and you lose to Michigan three seasons in a row right just hard to think that that would happen with Georgia right Georgia is not losing obviously none of Georgia's top three Rivals are playing at the level than Michigan is playing but K Smart isn't letting that happen and they LED he led Georgia to back-to-back national championships and beat Ryan Day in a head tohe match up where Georgia had the better team for sure and and honestly they should have won that football game the way that it was going that was just a total second half Miracle comeback by Georgia but ultimately kby SW was a big reason why the adjustments were better for Georgia in the second half and the talent the more talented team ultimately won well with Ryan day it if this isn't the year I mean their roster I don't know if it's ever going to be as stacked as it is in the year 2024 this feels like it's the year right you've you got to beat Michigan you've got to make a national championship those things need to happen again for a guy that he's not on the hot seat but it's gone up a few degrees it's definitely gone up a few degrees Ryan CER from dog post talking about the reasons why Georgia really is number one heading into the 2024 season I think that they've been ranked number one honestly pretty much almost every week since the beginning of 2021 right they got number one ranking pretty early on with that and then they move on and win the national championship that year win a National Championship the next year we're ranked almost number one almost the entire time last year I think you're going to end up seeing that again especially if they keep piling up the wins the thing with Georgia is things are done in a very particular way and it's done that way because of Kirby Smart it's as someone who covers the team I I don't cover Ohio State I don't cover M obviously I cover college football in general along with Georgia but I don't cover other teams in the very specific way that I covered Georgia one of the things that you noticed though when you talk to other beat reporters when you're at these Bull games and and you're meeting people and you can also just kind of tell it's like a military zone in Athens and the football facility it's like this locked down military base with information you see the clip with Kirby Smart the other day and a reporter is asking him hey can you name some of the position groups can you identify the position groups that you think you're lacking a little bit of depth in Cy smart goes yes obviously the reporter was looking for him to answer that he he says yes with a straight face and you know with kiry Smart's little twist on that he doesn't love the local media the reporter was obviously looking for Kirby to name a couple of the position groups that he thought there was enough death well Kirby doesn't take debit on that and then the reporter goes well can you can share that with us and Kirby simply says no right there are other coaches that do that there are other coaches that are short with the media that like to keep things inous and keep things tight but it shows you the just the military on another example right with with the things of Georgia is how secretive things are with practice right you know they only let us see a little bit of warm-ups here and there they don't let us know we're going to see practice sometimes until a couple hours before everything is really locked down um if someone's caught spying on George's practice you're getting in trouble right it is ran in a way that is just different I'm sure things are pretty locked down in Ohio State and Michigan and Alabama and all these other programs but they do have like this military Tyrant right I think it was Kirk curb Street a few years ago when Georgia was playing Michigan and he said it on the broadcast in that Orange Bowl game that the Kirby Smart was a tyrant well yes that is and that is part of the difference I think number two the second reason why Georgia has better odds than Ohio State State and is getting leaned on is the quarterback position so reason number two being Carson Beck instead of will Howard it really comes down to two people right because you can look at like I said you can look at Ohio State's roster you look at their schedule and it's a little bit easier I think their path to getting to the National Championship is going to be easier than georg's they don't have to deal with three top six teams on the road they don't have to deal with Tennessee and Clemson and their rivals in addition to that they got to deal with Michigan they got to deal with Oregon everything else is kind of easy and they should win every other game like their absolute four should be 10 and two you could argue George's Floor for this season is lower than that if they might be a couple injuries away from a 9- win season right I'm not predicting anything like that but that's the difference for Georgia well Carson Beck is one of those differences and simply because he's projected to be much better than will Howard will Howard good couple years of Kansas State not great I think that he's not necessarily this clear upgrade from Kyle McCord and Ohio State's offense who had a generational generational Talent among with a lot of other Elite talents just was not as good and it shows you the drop off from having an elite quarterback and dropping off to an average Quarterback and that's what Kyle McCord was last year you get will Howard I just don't think that he's that much of an upgrade and I think that transitioning to a new program no matter how good the situation is at quarterback it's not necessarily easy in that first year even you saw Joe burrow his transition was not super easy on an LSU team that was loaded with NFL Talent it took a year another LSU example Jaden Daniels that took a year at LSU to turn into something Elite it took STS and time to turn something into something elate when he transferred back to Georgia transfer quarterbacks don't necessarily just ball ball out it's part of the reason why there are some reservations with Dylan Gabon Oregon he's obviously a little bit older and maybe that situation is a little bit more cated for him but Carson Beck is a huge difference when you have the guy that is a projected Heisman finalist right Dylan Gabriel has the best odds now instead of Carson it makes things easier because Georgia did it with ston Bennett twice a guy that no one was talking about as a top 10 quarterback ever in college football obviously he became a Heisman finalist and he was deserving of that but people view Carson Beck as a much much better quarterback and now in 2024 you saw what he was able to do in his first year as a starter getting almost 4,000 yards having a great 4 to1 touchdown and reception ratio leading Georgia to 13-1 Leading Georgia to a 63 win a 60-point win over Florida State they only lose one game by three points that's Carson Beck's college football resume so far and that was just year one of a starter now it's year two there's less transition for this offense it's year two of a system with Mike Bobo that's not being tinkered as much as going from monin to Bobo and you look at it and you just say wow this Georgia offense is going to be really really good and you know that a Kirby Smart Glenn Schuman an now travoris Robinson defense is also going to to be elite will it ever be as Elite as it was in 2021 it's not fair for us to put that comparison on them but it should be a very good one has potential to be better than it was last year the offense is definitely going to be better than it was last year I feel 100% confident saying that now I say all this to say Ohio State very well could win the national championship and I think will Howard will have a good year for Ohio State I think that there's a reason why they went out and got him in particular he's going to be solid at the very least and Ohio State's going to be competing for a national championship but those are the reasons why Georgia is ranked ahead of them otherwise they wouldn't be if it wasn't for Kirby Smart it wasn't for Carson Beck we would all everybody not just Joel clatt everybody would be pointing at the Buckeyes as the best team in college football there you go thanks for watching
