[Music] it's a picture perfect day as we get set for today's contest between the Michigan Wolverines and the Arizona State sundevil Happy New Year from all of us at EA Sports this one should be a fun defense fired up the offensive linan had his feet too close together as an offensive lineman you got to spread your feet and have a nice base number 11 is back in the gun he drops back he throws the showed really good hands on that play this kid is always calling for the ball and if he keeps making plays like that he'll continue to get the ball they line up at the 23 first down three wide outs here they'll throw on first down he breaks it number 11 Zips it right into coverage and the defense has it and there's a penalty on the play let's see who it's on first down Michigan lines up with three receivers up the middle make the move he's tackled at the 20 number 34 gains about a yard on the play that'll bring up second down second and nine ball on the 20 Michigan in a five wise set tackle at the 22 yd line the quarterback gets a couple on the draw play they line up at the 22 it's Third Down The Wolverine line up with four wide out steps up in the pocket throws this one out to the left drop down at the 34 yd line what did you see there guys the defense was in zone coverage the offense did a good job of protecting the quarterback and he threw a nice ball to get the first down and the receiver ran a nice route to get over between the Zone coverage first down 10 to go ball on their own 34 Michigan lines up with three receivers gets the ball now they faked it surveys the field and it's incomplete Ray looks to have been shaken up a bit on that play it seems to me that he landed on his arm a little awkwardly from their own 34 yd line it's second down Michigan winds up for the shotgun set mcti back to throw this one is incomplete oh you got to hit the open man that's a painful incompletion for the offensive coordinator to watch so another third down upcoming for the catch here he's got good hands and when he's on there's no one in America that can catch him it's first and 10 well we played one quarter and we're still all locked up it's z0 they line up at the 40 looking throw yeah and what impresses me is the composure of this Young quarterback he made a great read saw the open receiver and delivered an almost perfect strike good looking play first down 10 they line up in the eye mcti hands it off and he's tackled at the 16 number 34 comes away with two yards on the carry that'll make it third down the offense lines up trying to convert on third down here the Wolverine line up with three wide look at the throw out it falls incomplete they got to him as he was throwing that time he's lucky that one wasn't intercepted either that or sacked I don't here he throws brought down at the 40 yd line well coach a short pick up on that pass play it was but you know what as long as they've got those guys getting open underneath it'll take a lot of running past those Defenders that speed alone makes this guy a big time receiver first down 10 to go they're threatening inside the 20 one man Back Field they'll throw on first down throws it out out there Robinson just couldn't bring it in Robinson was the intended receiver on the play that'll bring up second down second down and 10 to go ball on the 13 yd Line Michigan lines up in a dive defense devil line up with a single set back field looks to pass it as he throws and that one's Fallen incomplete that one was thrown in the direction of the tight end and as as a coach you hate to see the perfect play call wasted because of poor execution here the quarterback just overshot this time so another third down facing the offense and this one is third and long Tomkins the lone back he drops back looks throws that's incomplete so since the quarterback and receiver couldn't hook up we're going to have a fourth down it's fourth down and they'll attempt the field goal this one is from about 40 yds out Arizona state is down three and looking to tie it up it's up and he got it pretty good kick right there and it wasn't an easy one they did everything right it was a good snap a good hold and then a good kick Arizona state is lining up to kick this one off decent kick number 34 takes it from the six the defense was able to keep them out of the End Zone on their last possession but the offense did pick up three they'll get the ball here at the [Music] 29 Michigan comes out of the shotgun drops back on first down lets it fly he's level at the 47 good pick up by the receiver yeah this kid loves the play he wants the ball every time they throw it up first and 10 ball right around Midfield Ray with three wide receivers ray goes with a play fake it's TI that's of an effort by the defensive back to knock that pass down what the defensive back coaches to see his kids reacting when the ball's in the air and then making the play it's second down and 10 to go ball right around Midfield The Wolverine come out showing three wide tosses it out and they get him in the back field for a loss a great defensive effort there and let me tell you the key to that play was right there in the defensive line they tied this offensive line up and allowed the linebacker to come up and make a big play Lee I agree with you we always talk about the linebackers and safeties but credit the big guys up front to that play Michigan lines up with three receivers back to pass stepping up looking Chucks it deep down the right side got him again he's all the way down to the 27 good pickup for the first down hey hey Kirk forget about the first down how about that big chunk of yards they just picked up on that play yep it definitely put them in better field position I just have a feeling that they're going to punch it into the End Zone on this drive the Wolverine line up with five receivers Ray to the air on first down this one is incomplete thrown just a bit too far for the wide receiver second down 10 yds to go ball in the 27 yd line Michigan comes out with an eye formation Ray back to pass got him on the run and he's hit immediately and guys you can just feel the momentum building with this drive that's their third first down on this drive alone coach yep we all know how important momentum is in college football this defense really needs to step up and get some of it back it's first and 10 we'll see what they can do in the Red Zone Michigan lines up in a double tight set they go with a toss tackles him at the 11 ydd line he carries the ball for three maybe four yds on the 11 going in Michigan lines up with three receivers here's the GI CER tackles him for a loss on the play they couldn't get back to the line of scrimmage on that one I don't think they did a very good a job of selling the pass the defense was able to read the play and come right in there and make a nice stop the offense faces another third down as they line it up Ray has four receivers lined up here back to pass steps up here they come Inman makes the sack I'll tell you what this guy seems to give maximum effort on every play he was so hard to keep off the quarterback Kirk that's his fifth of the year that doesn't surprise me and I'm sure he'll get a few more before the season's over it's fourth down the field goal attempt will be about a 37 y trying to take the lead by a field goal he gets it up and it's good Michigan to kick he sends it off Mitchell Fields it at the three the offense ready to go again and their last Drive ended with three points the offense will start at the 23 Arizona State goes with the ace set here play fake he delivers it's coach you made a nice defensive play there he sure did he just stuck his hand hand out and hit the football so that'll make it second down second down the devil set up in the gun drops back to p short call and they couldn't hook up on that one yo that was a tough pass for him to hold on to yeah but it wasn't the pass that was the problem the hit is what drawed the ball loose hey the quarter back is the one who left his wide receiver out to drive you have to throw those passes in a place where the guy could protect himself The Wolverine bring in their dive package drops back to pack he passes it caught at the point at the 30 to the 20 to the 10 touchdown Arizona State they made a great connection there for the touchdown didn't they fellas what a quarterback threw a strike to the wide receiver he caught it and took it all away well what a dangerous combination you can't say enough about how good that throw was the quarterback put that one right on the mar they line up for the point after he splits the uprights with the extra point so with just over a minute to go in the half the score Arizona State 10 Michigan six young get set to kick this one away and it's off conine pass it at the five just about ready to call a first play of this drive they were able to pick up a field goal on their last possession they'll start this drive at the 23 they line up in the shotgun Ray drops back he lets it go it's complete he's taken down at the 28 Line Michigan calls a timeout and they'll have two remaining they line up at the 28 second down Arizona State brings in their nickel page step back to pass and this one Falls incomplete he might have been looking to run and didn't secure the ball well sometimes you see young players do this this is something you have to work very very hard to be able to overcome third and five coming up ball on their own 28 Michigan comes out with an eye this is a wonderful kick Mitchell Fields it the 29 what to look for on this drive is to see how often the defense changes up its coverages they didn't defend the pass very well that last drive so it's going to be interesting to see if they play them differently here it's first and 10 all on their own 31 they come out with three wide receivers drops back on first down he's on the run the senior run there the counter is a tough play to defend but is also a tough play to run yeah if everyone isn't in sync then you get a result like this last play second and 10 ball on the 41 Michigan lines up nice play fake and that one's incomplete they almost got to him that time even though they didn't sack him the pressure was still enough to force a bad pass if you can get in there and disrupt the pocket then the quarterback is going to have a tougher time getting the ball to his Playmakers so another third down upcoming for the offense the sundevil line up with six defensive back comes across the middle brought down at the 37 yd line doesn't get enough for the first down yeah nice job of making a few yards but they got to be disappointed they didn't make the first down it's fourth down and steps up throws it and they couldn't hook up on that one he just overthrew them on that one quarterback has to make those passes you can't overthrow a guy like that the Wolverines line up the punt afford to let this offense score again they need a big stop right here you couldn't be more right coach this is a very important possession for both teams so a huge series here we'll find out what going on that play well here I think the quarterback needs to be a little bit more patient in the pocket that way he can allow his receivers to get downfield a little bit before he throws it they'll conversion when a team converts on third down they can really frustrated defense when they converted third and long it just makes them sick first down 10 yds to go ball in the 30 yd line number 11 the ground up the middle that was well defended by this defense hey that linebacker made a nice play but what about all those big guys up front on the defensive line they're good too boy well they created the play this time coach the offensive line is so concerned with their penetrating abilities that these linebackers are able to roam free and make plays like that drops back to P he tosses it
