crimes he was released from prison on house arrest when the covid-19 pandemic struck in early 2020 due to his age and poor health and the worst part is that Oprah gave this guy a platform the big question was why why is she giving a person like this more exposure what does she get out of it and it's not just this guy giving convicted felons a platform she has also brought on convicted felons remember when she brought on Monique's brother Gerald who's a convicted felon yeah the same brother who spent over a decade in prison for essaying Mo'Nique Mo'Nique felt majorly betrayed by Oprah especially after learning that her mother was brought into the televised interview without any heads up according to Mo'Nique if Oprah had just mentioned her mother's involvement she would have shut the whole thing down the fact that Oprah used their personal friendship to gather intimate family details and then exposed them on her show without a warning left Mo'Nique feeling blindsided and get this these were the same parents who didn't believe Mo'Nique when she spoke out about what Gerald did to her but here's where it gets even Messier Mo'Nique talked on a podcast revealing how her parents tried to sell her story to Barbara Walters and you know what Barbara shut them down recognizing they were trying to cash in on Monique's trauma but Oprah oh she jumped at the chance to bring Gerald on her show and when Mo'Nique confronted her about it all she got was some half-baked apology blackballing artists for those of you who don't know Mo'Nique and Oprah go way back Mo'Nique full Mo'Nique was asked to hit up the canned film festival in France to promote the film The only apparent issue for the industry Moguls was that she wouldn't be getting paid for it and that wasn't part of her original deal deal so she said thanks but no thanks Monique explained her reasoning saying I said Oprah I'm doing a talk show I'm doing a comedy tour I have a husband and I have babies I have a little bit of downtime and I'm going to take advantage of it so I'm not going anywhere because I'm not obligated to go anywhere I've done my part now here's where it gets messy Mo'Nique claims that after this whole can thing she got blackballed from the industry for being difficult to work with and get this she's still standing her ground demanding Justice to this day after the whole difficult to work with comment Mo'Nique noticed that she wasn't offered roles and basically Oprah blackballed her and ruined her career while she insists that director Lee Daniels has extended a public apology for his role in her career's downturn the same can't be said for two other Giants in the industry Winfrey and Tyler Perry before filming precious Mo'Nique and Daniels were inseparable but Monique's aforementioned refusal to do promotional work gratus in the runup to the Academy Awards caused a dent in their relationship after they buried the hatchet she said we were taking in the beautiful scenery and Lee looked at me and said why didn't you just shut up during all those years and I said had I shut up you and I wouldn't be walking down this River even now Oprah has refused to apologize for the fact that she ruined Monique's career and burnt it to the ground but that isn't the only thing she's done horrible work conditions on set the worst part of all of this is that Mo'Nique isn't the only person she has allegedly wronged over the course of these years Oprah was one of the producers of the movie The Color Purple and apparently the cast had a really tough time on set accusations appearance and weight for a long time Oprah was critical of weight loss drugs calling them an easy way out she believed that losing weight should be about making lasting Lifestyle Changes like eating be going on Oprah decided to team up with none other than Dwayne The Rock Johnson and launch a fund on August 31st they announced the people's fund of Maui with a post on Instagram they initially donated a combined 10 million to kick off the fund and asked the public to contribute more this led to a lot of criticism especially on social media their mission to lend a helping hand to the folks of Maui in their journey to rebuild after those wildfires that left a grim trail behind at least 115 lives were lost and thousands of structures were either damaged or reduced to ashes the estimated cost of all this destruction a staggering $5.5 billion according to the National centers for environmental information now they made it clear that every single penny donated to their fund would be going directly to the residents of LA CH a town in Maui that took a beating but let's just say the response was a bit of a mixed bag some folks weren't exactly thrilled calling them out for seeking donations while they're sitting on a combined net worth of $3 billion others though were quick to applaud them for setting up the fund and putting their own money into it critics felt it was out of touch to ask others for help when many people are already struggling financially comments on social media platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram reflected this frustration even Dwayne Johnson admitted that he understood the criticism because he remembered what it was like to live paycheck to paycheck in response Oprah defended the fund during an appearance on CBS mornings she explained that the the Flames instead of reaching out to folks for cash why not put that land to good use and help them rebuild their homes it's got people wondering you know as more people dig into the legitimacy of the Maui fund there are claims that the initial $5 million put in by The Rock and Oprah was basically seed money implying that taxpayers are now being asked to contribute to their fund word on the street is that the funds provided by Dwayne and Oprah went directly to their respective organizations and rumors suggest that not a single penny has reached the Wildfire victims another burning question is why the folks in Maui are still waiting for their share when there's a whopping $10 million sitting in the bank The public's getting pretty worked up thinking those two celebs should have just handed over that $10 million to the victims instead of trying to milk more cash from the rest of us but instead of giving the full $10 million they've set up this fancy system where we can all like Jeff Bezos Peter theel and Mark Zuckerberg have faced criticism for their substantial land purchases in Hawaii many locals have expressed concerns that these large-scale Acquisitions are inflating property costs and contributing to the displacement of native Hawaiians leading to higher homelessness rates and because she does stuff that is questionable she always tries to clear her
