[Music] up so today we're hosting a bunch of kids who all have one thing in common they've lost someone really special to them we're providing a therapeutic experience in the outdoors whether that is fishing there's Fire Starting there's archery there's get togethers we're going to do a lot of things in the outdoors and be able to spend a lot of time with the kids and uh hopefully Bond maybe provide them a new out to use for their grief or just at at the very worst give them a good day in the outdoors and maybe forget about [Music] everything it's so cool to see a lot of familiar faces we're so excited to have a great day I'll be planted at the fishing station and I'll be ready to catch the biggest fish so good good luck trying to beat me and make sure you we'll see about that see how it's dark dark dark dark dark dark and then there's those light circles cast it on one of those another one that's a good one did you get robbed I think so oh no oh we got one here too there we go I got a bass that's a pretty one cheers I lost my dad when I was uh junior in college and it uh really really shook my world and still it's hard today for me the way I was able to grieve I would just go fishing and I'd spend a lot of time alone on the water we really benefited me it's an authentic experience it gives you a chance to kind of shut out the rest of the world and kind of have an escape at least in my eyes like when you're out there fishing or you're out there going on a hike it doesn't really matter what's going on on your social media what's going on with your job what's going on with your homework you're in that experience it really gives you the opportunity to really simplify things and just be present I lost my husband which is my son's father it's been one year now I heard about Camp huddle up through a foundation called sand castles through Henry for health system and I think this is really a great outlet for him to just meet other children who also have a loss I think it's great that Frank is hosting this camp we need a more grief informed world and giving the kids opportunities to learn how to express their grief outdoors and doing different grief activities is wonderful for them to have that space to do so statistically our 1 in 11 children in Michigan will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they're 18 and that number doubles by the time that they're 25 That's not including grandparents Aunts Uncles teachers friends in a classroom of 30 kids that's like two or three kids per classroom so we want to provide different opportunities for kids and teens to learn about different coping skills to use at home school or other social settings be able to relate to their peers and learn how to memorialize their person as well and the support that they're receiving today is going to be impactful for the rest of their lives I had most fun fishing today I also had most fun fishing today fishing for sure like fishing it's pretty crazy to look at where we were and where we're going and uh this past year for the foundation for my family for the Lions team has just been so so exciting the support that this community whether you're a allance fan or someone else who's lost someone has given me has been uh incredible it's just so cool to see where we're going it's it's only the beginning and to see the jump we've made from this past Camp to now this year's Camp just gets me so excited to be able to maybe see what happens next year and the year after that and build this community of people who have that thing in common that sucks but we have each other and uh we can experience it all to the outdoors I just want to say thank you to Frank for putting on this camp and giving kids the space to heal and to grieve and to know that they're not alone in this grieve Journey it's kids like me that you're helping who are going to grow up into adults and remember this camp for the rest of their life so thank you for taking the time to be here today and put on this camp for kids who have been through a lot I think this is great getting out to be in the outdoors and uh you know doing things I think helps you know helps the children process and it's really very very generous to go sure you're very busy and to go beyond yourself to do something like this is really really tremendous just thank you for being thoughtful and being able to share such a memorable experience thank you very very much thank you Frank thank you Frank thank you Frank thank you Frank thank you Frank [Applause] [Music]
