welcome to a breaking news edition of corun today Direct TV and Direct TV stream has lost all Disney owned channels including ESPN and what is honestly probably going to be one of the biggest fights in our world of core cutting for the next few weeks or even months this deal or this blackout I should say could go on for some time now this literally just happened 20 minutes ago I have the official statements from Disney and Direct TV we're going to break down what this means there for subscribers and for the future of television all right before we get into it I want to point out one thing with this news this is probably a major turning point in the world of television cable providers satellite providers have reportedly been very unhappy with Disney Fox and War's discovery about the launch of venue Sports and now we're having the first major contract renewal since that was announced and there's a blackout and it's a blackout because they want to they want to basically do the same thing venue Sports is doing a cheap smaller Sports only package and more look for these more common not just with drag TV but other cable and satellite providers I predict will soon be also having blackouts with waren Bros Discovery Fox and Disney over basically wanting to do the same thing they're doing keep a close eye on this let's jump back to the rest of the video I just recorded now first though if you want to read all these statements and everything I'm about to talk about I will put a link to it in the show notes and in the first pen comment you can find a link to our story there and if you like what we do hit that subscribe button hit that thumbs up we do stories um about cord cutting on our site and videos here every U Monday through Friday and breaking news like this all right let's dive into it Direct TV um has lost Disney own channels which includes FX FXX free form um Disney Channels ESPN and a whole lot more I believe this also includes Disney owned local ABCs but all other ABCs owned by Third parties which is the vast majority of them will remain on Direct TV with this of course they're both blaming each other now direct TVs come out very clearly and said they want the ability to offer smaller more flexible packages sportson packages entertainment only packages heck probably even a local only package and more with it Disney has reportedly been open to the idea of a sportson package maybe something probably similar to their venue sports streaming service that they're in the works of trying to launch pinning the court case from fubo against them now with this though um Direct TV now let's talk about their statement has come out and said the Walt Disney Company is once again refusing any accountability to customers distribution partners and now the American Judicial System referring to that lawsuit um from fubo Disney's in the business are creating alternate realities but this is the reality where we believe you earn your way and you must answer for your own actions they want to continue to chase maximum profits and dominant control at the expense of consumers making it harder for them to select the shows and sports they want at a reasonable price that's pretty powerful the statement like that probably tells me that they're far from a deal but originally it was reported that 5:00 p.m. Eastern these networks will go dark it looks like they had a 2hour extension till 7:00 p.m. so there's definitely been aggressive talks unlike some other deals where there were no talks for a long extended period of time looking at Bley Sports on um Comcast for example this one seems like Disney and Direct TV are negotiating and probably still are but strong words like this tells me that they're still far from a deal being reached of course Disney is struck back with a statement to cor cars news saying Direct TV choose to deny millions of subscribers access to our content just as we head into the final week of the US Open and gear for the college football and the opening of the NFL season we're open to offering Direct TV flexibility and terms which uh We've extended to our other distrib Distributors we will not enter into an agreement that undermines our portfolio uh television channels and programming we invest significantly to deliver the number one brand in entertainment news and sports um and that's what our viewers expect to see um expect and deserve excuse me we urge Direct TV to do what's best interest of their consumers and finalize a deal that would immediately restore the programming all right this is pretty typical both sides shoe at each other Disney say hey we gave you a deal you didn't accept it Direct TV says that's not the deal we asked for we're asking you for another deal you're refusing to accept our deal and that's kind of where we are this one's probably going to drag out for at least a little bit I'll be shocked if in the next 24 hours of deals reach Could Happen Direct TV is quite clear that they want something very different they want the ability to offer smaller television packages with more flexibility the ability to say hey here's a sportson package here's a movies and entertainment only package here's a local package is probably one they want Disney according to reports is open to maybe some flexibility but not what Direct TV is asking and here's the problem Direct TV is facing the reality that they're losing a lot of subscribers exact numbers are no longer reported because they're no longer publicly traded they've been spun off even though AT&T still owns the majority of them they're operated and manag as an independent company where AT&T just holds a majority ownership there in and just reaps the profit while subscriber numbers are continuing to fall as Court cutting continues to grow and they're looking at venue Sports launching with venue Sports offering only sports channels Direct TV is saying oo this is kind of tough for us that's a big part of what we have as Sports the number one reason people still subscribe to services like Direct TV and Direct TV stream and Direct TV via internet are sports so a venue Sports is going to launch with Just Sports at a cheaper price than Dr TV you can see the problem that's that's why I think this is the first major contract renewal since um venue Sports has come up to my knowledge and now you're looking at blackout I suspect that this will have Ripple effects across other TV providers I think we'll probably see other blackouts like this to come across others as their contracts come up for Renewal I think cable providers we've heard for a long time are very unhappy at Disney Fox and Warr Brothers Discovery because of this venue sports streaming service and now we have the first major blackout look for this to become more common what does this mean for you while there are other options it's a great thing about TV right now is you can easily switch providers in our story we have a link to a bunch of different options to watch ESPN but for the long-term future of core cutting this probably means we're going to see more blackouts as Disney and fox and War Brothers Discovery deal with unhappy Distributors that feel like they're undermining their business and cutting them down we'll keep a close eye on this and take a look at it well that's it for today if you want to keep up to dat and
