and in ases the Iowa State Cyclones were hoping to get off to a fast start as they host North Dakota Sports director Rick Coleman has more from Jack D Stadium Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones with an explosive start to the 2024 season the Cyclones get the ball first in the game and it didn't take long to light up the scoreboard Roco Beck his first pass is a 54 yd strike to jayen null between two North Dakota Defenders to set up the Iowa State offense deep in fighting Hawk territory Beck's next pass was a 21 yd fade in the end zone to jayen Higgins to complete a 75 yd Drive in 38 seconds and give the Cyclones a seven to nothing lead credit Rock I mean those are those are two great throws and obviously you got two great players to be able to make plays on those balls but um you know I think those guys have really had a great fall camp together there's great chemistry and um you know trying to put the ball in our Playmakers hands Beck also led the Iowa State offense on a seven playay 65 yd drive to end the first half Jaylen null grabs this pass one of seven he grabbed on the day for 139 yards just knew where the spots were and film study really helped me and obviously Roco putting the ball where it needed to be helped a lot the Cyclones needed a quick strike offense because North Dakota was playing keep away the fighting Hawk offense held the ball for 23 of the 30 minutes in the first half including a 23 playay Drive the score was 14 to3 Iowa State at halftime and the Cyclones completed the scoring when Roco Beck scores on this scrum in the fourth quarter the Cyclones win it 21-3 them being on the field for so long um us being sitting down uh just not never really kind of getting into a Groove uh at some points we did uh but it was kind of a weird game just in that on that end so uh just honing in getting back in on Tuesday and Wednesday with good practices and getting ready for you know our next game so the Iowa State Cyclones open 20124 with a 21-3 victory over North Dakota there's some lessons to take away from this game particularly on defense where the Cyclones gave up a lot of possession time but still only gave up three points and that is something coach Matt Campbell says his team can build on reporting from Jack TR stadium in Ames I'm Rick Coleman news7 K WWL
