so we need to talk about the Packers and their backup quarterback situation because after Jordan love came in there in the first preseason game lit it up on two or three passes through a beautiful deep touchdown pass to Davian Wicks since that point the quarterbacks have not looked great Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt now the game against the Broncos on Sunday night was definitely uh even worse than week one there were some positives from both QBs in the first game wasn't great but there were some positives now in the Broncos game it was pretty much negatives all over the board two points scored by a safety that sort of gives you the story of that game and so you know when you look at just how that Clifford and Pratt struggled last game it has many people wondering if the Packers should bring in a backup quarterback and I did a poll on my YouTube channel yesterday and asked do the Packers need to bring in another QB as the backup 47% said no 53% said yes so in a perfect world where you can get any quarterback you want obviously you'd want your your backup to be able to come in replace your your star QB if they were to go down and keep keep your team at the same level obviously the reality that's not the reality in the NFL um you know when you have a backup quarterback you sort of just hope that they can come in and and run the offense somewhat well because that guy who comes in is typically not going to be able to you know keep your team at the same level now there are examples of that not being the casee you look at I mean Tom Brady coming in as a backup early in his career that worked out they were better off with Brady there you look at the 49ers in 2022 Jimmy G was a starter he goes down Trey Lance comes in he goes down and then 7th rounder Brock pie comes in out of nowhere and takes the 49ers to an NFC championship and we know it's happened since then so obviously from time to time backups can come in and take your team to another level in the Packer situation do not believe that is going to be the case and so I guess the the question really is is you know how important is the backup quarterback and are there quarterbacks out there who are better than the Packers current options I would assume that's what the Packers front office would be debating right now because if you believe that there's someone else out there who maybe will get cut depending on their quarterback situation if you think that they're much better than Sean Clifford or Michael Pratt and you have an opportunity to grab them I think you obviously would that the question is though with a guy like Michael Pratt he's so young you just drafted him would you really be willing to bring someone else in who maybe has a little bit more experience but risk letting go of Michael Pratt when he could have some more upside that you just haven't seen yet and he's going to take some time to develop into that and so I do think there's a risk there um so they sort of have to make that decision and I want to take a look at a list of potential quarterbacks and this was put out by ACME Packing Company and they did an article and they found a list or created a list of third and four string quarterbacks on other teams and then put the limit when it comes to adjusted yards per attempt over 4.3 which I believe was Michael Pratt so here are the names let me know what you think about these guys Trey Lance Desmond rder CJ bethard Taylor hinek Tommy DeVito Kyle Allen Brandon Allen Jeff Driscoll bayy zappy Zack Wilson Tyler Huntley Sam Ellinger PJ Walker so clearly these are not very good options these are fourth third and four string quarterbacks on other teams lots of guys who have failed when they had an opportunity to start as quarterbacks and that's just sort of that the reality here of the situation U I guess the question is are any of those guys better than Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford um it's hard to know I think with Michael Pratt we haven't seen him too much Sean Clifford as well we've seen him in the preseason but all in all both guys very inexperience barely have any um you know actual regular season snaps Michael proud of course has none so here's my take on the situation I think that if you lose Jordan love either way you're pretty much toast that's just sort of what I think now if he were to miss a couple games maybe you'd prefer to have someone like Case Keenum who can come in there and sort of keep things afloat if you have a really good defense maybe you win those games I think you the Packers should just stick with what they have right now um Michael Pratt I think that he has more promise than Sean Clifford at this point Clifford had a really nice preseason or had a pretty nice preseason last year not as good this year in my opinion and so I would say the Packers should stick with what they have you're going to be in a tough spot if you lose your starting quarterback regardless and I'm not too worried to be completely honest here now there is Ryan tanah Hill out there still he's a free agent I watched an interview from him in the past couple weeks and it sounds like he's waiting for an opportunity where if a team let's say loses a quarterback and he likes the fit they give him the kind of money he wants maybe he'll go it doesn't even sound like he's for sure on returning and so I think he's he's an option you look at only if your your quarterback goes down uh for the Long Haul because here in Green Bay I mean he's going to cost too much money to just sign up sign as a backup quarterback and I think the Packers are better off sticking with the cheaper options in Clifford and Michael Pratt but let me know your thoughts in the comment section down below and I'll see you guys next time
