our top story tonight within the last few weeks there have been multiple incidents of football athletes dying while playing just over the weekend in Florida a football player collapsed and later died during a game Trojan Visions Mackenzie Foster joins us live in the studio and McKenzie what else can you tell us about these recent player deaths yeah you guys so these deaths aren't just happening around the country they are also happening close to home in August a player at New Brockton High School School collapsed at football practice and later died one week later a player in Selma died from a serious head injury after being tackled during a game in light of these deaths and the growing concern I spoke with a university Professor who has been in the World of Sports to see what he thinks can or should be done Dr Robert mner has over two decades of experience working with athletic organizations when he heard about the death of two Alabama High School football players he immediately thought about their loved ones your thoughts and prayers go out to the families in the communities that these players were involved with as a former Athletics director mner says the next step was to look for any preexisting problems or risks was there anything that could have been done to prevent those types of um you know injuries and or death mner thinks that situations like these that give schools Across America the opportunity to enhance their player protection we should be going over our our risk management plans on a regular basis and making sure that we're utilizing best practices um in the industry to minimize those opportunities where where students could get injured that was on the high school level but what about on the Collegiate level mner says that colleges and universities have the money and resources to minimize the risk of players getting serious injured at all divisions you have probably a few more resources monetarily to uh screen student athletes um so that they would be uh looked at a little bit more closely although mner does think there are things that can be done to minimize the chances of players getting injured he wants people to know there isn't a way to completely eliminate the risks now according to a report made by NPR there were seven High School football player deaths just in August Emily tar thank you McKenzie for breaking that down for us we have an update on the new on the player death from New Brockton that's right according to a report made by wdhn the player's mother says she had no prior health issues before his death
