San Francisco 49ers announce $200M upgrades to Levi's Stadium | KTVU

go back to the headlines, Sal. >> Thank you. New this morning, the San Francisco 49ers say the team will be investing $200 million to improve the fan experience at Levi's Stadium. The stadium just turned ten years old. The team says it's looking forward to hosting World Cup soccer matches and the Super Bowl in the coming years. KTVU Mark Sayer takes a look at what's in store. Let the construction begin. >> It was April 19th of 2012 when the 49ers officially broke ground on Levi's Stadium, and it opened in the summer of 2014. In the first ten years, the stadium has already hosted the Super Bowl, along with international soccer matches and major concerts and now, as the stadium enters its second decade, the team is making a big investment. >> And so we're really excited about what we're doing here at Levi's Stadium. The concourses, they illuminate the stadium. >> Francine Melendez Hughes is the general manager of stadium operations. She says the goal is to keep the fan experience moving forward. >> We're always looking to reinvest into the stadium to ensure that it's up to the most technologically advanced stadium venue out there. >> Both video boards at either end zone will be upgraded, giving the stadium the largest 4K display of any NFL stadium in the nation. New LED field lights will be installed, which will save energy and also brighten the playing field for primetime night games and new Wi-Fi six systems are being installed stadium wide, with more than 1300 access points. >> So for us, investing into the fan experience, whether it's frictionless technology at the concession stands, so they're minimizing their wait time or Wi-Fi or 5G so that they're able to get their text messages out there and send pictures and just really enjoy their their time here. >> And here's one area that most fans don't often get to see the luxury boxes. But like any NFL stadium, corporate sponsorship is critical to the team, to the stadium, and they drive sales that goes right to the local tax base. So all 120 of these boxes are also being upgraded. >> As the stadium operator, you always want to put money into the stadium. It's all about the first class fan experience. >> Levi's is looking forward to the 20 2425 NFL season, and in 2026 will host six FIFA World Cup matches and also Super B
