now this is an example of a medial collateral ligament injury we have the medial side of the knee over here the inner side over here we have the outer side the lateral side and we can see that the medial collateral ligament which is a dark band that comes from the femur down to the tibia we can see it's very thick and gray here up towards the femoral attachment on the tibial attachment down here it looks nice and thin and dark normal but again as it comes up here it gets thickened and the old defined so this is a sprain or partial tear of the medial collateral ligament and this looks like a grade two tear we can see the medial collateral ligament coming up here looking nice and dark but it approaches the femoral attachment we see that it is not well defined there is some tearing of some of these fibers partial tearing but it's not completely torn there's a little fragment here that comes down so a grade two sprain or tear is a tear where some of the fibers are torn sometimes even full thickness tearing but it's not completely ruptured it does have some function left and a grade one sprain is when we see just some fogginess but there's no really macroscopic tearing this looks like it's strained or stretched Without Really significant loss of function so this is a grade two more of an intermediate type of tear where there's some maybe areas some ill-defined full thickness tearing but again it's not completely ruptured thank you very much
