Hello and welcome back to Badminton Insight
today's video is very exciting we're here in Sheffield home of GB Para Badminton and we're
going to be playing with the four guys that are going for gold in Tokyo just a few weeks
from now so let's go inside and get started so we're here at Sheffield training
with the para badminton guys we've got Dan Bethell here in the SL3 category Martin Rooke here in the WH2 category in the wheelchair And then down the end we've got Jack and Krysten in the sh6 category So I'm here with Dan Bethell world ranked number two in
the SL3 category so yeah we've just had a morning session we'll show you some clips of what we've
done in the defence session for you wasn't it wow I gave everything and I could not
get through! It's nice for me, a bit of defence, didn't have to move too much! Basically this category is half court singles yes so how is it that different to full court singles? I think the biggest thing about it is the
endurance side of it like you can have games that go on an hour and a half
we have one match in the past an hour and 53 minutes so it's just that's there's just no space
hitting as you found out this morning it's quite hard to hit winners and attacks it's just a real
real slog, endurance, cv, fitness are really really important yeah and I know you you do a lot of that in your
training don't you! And we're going to actually have a match later yeah that's going to hurt me a
lot more than you I'll tell you that yeah well hopefully hopefully good stuff I'm excited for exciting this afternoon! Okay, so what are you doing this afternoon or later this morning?
so we're gonna play a game against Danny it's you tag team when you're
tired yeah so like it'll be one point on one point off! We're getting a head start because we're gonna have
to go all out so we just played on our own we get fatigued but it's quite a high tempo thing for him! 8-0 head start in the first, 11-0 head start in the second set 14-0 in the third and what's your prediction? I think we'd lose without a head start! Jack what are you predicting? Are me and Drabs gonna win? I'm predicting that there'll be some lungs gone! Danny what are you predicting? A three-set win! We're getting off to a good start I've just
gone on and done four points and it's tiring! Half court singles is a different game in itself
we need it in in the Olympics in able bodied he's so good! So many clears, it's a good cv! anyone that asks us about endurance
stuff just play half-court singles! So we are here with Jack Shephard world number one, I feel very honest being world number one what what does your training week entail? I know
you're trying hard yeah a lot of hard work we have multiple on-court sessions that are designed
in different ways so single shuttle sessions technical sessions, multi-sessions
we also have two gym sessions a week and then we also each have individual prehab
programs just to make sure in areas where we might be weaker they stay injury free which is set by our physio we also have regular sessions with her just to make sure our bodies are tip top and in the best position we can to make sure we do train to our maximum every day, every week, every year! Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses among different disabilities which is where the
staff have to really like focus on who's who and the programs are quite individually set so yeah
a lot of work to be done behind the scenes making sure everyone's in the best position they
can be regarding their disability as well! That's tired me out that's for sure! Especially Dan and then Jack at the end! Thanks a lot for having us in, we've really enjoyed it and it's great to just see what you guys are doing every day it's such a fun environment to be in! All great lads so you can go follow them on their instagrams we'll put links in the description below and yeah I just want to wish you all the best for the games for when you go, bring back some medals! Yeah, thank you! Just jumping in whilst editing to say we didn't manage to get many clips of Martin Rooke as unfortunately he had to leave after the first session but he's a great guy is Rookie, known as the
Granddad of the group and I can assure you that playing in a wheelchair is extremely difficult
we have so much respect for the two coaches James and Richard who've actually
learned to play in a wheelchair Yeah mega difficult and hopefully
we'll get some clips of that someday Now back to the lads in the hall who just
wanted to say make sure you SMASH the subscribe button! So we're on our way home on the motorway
coming back from Sheffield after we've just had lunch with the team! We've really enjoyed our day there today and hopefully you guys have got some para badminton insight! Sorry we had to mute a few of the clips they were playing music and we can't play music because we'll get copyrighted
and we didn't really want to ask them to turn it off because we didn't want to interrupt their training but yeah as the guys said make sure you smash the subscribe button if you're new to the channel and we'll see you on another video, bye :-)
