Ian BREAKING: Trent Williams, 49ers finalize new contract with $48M in guaranteed money, end holdout

the Insiders alongside Ian rapor Judy Batista and Mike gapo I am Tom peliso you're going to notice two things a little bit different tonight number one Mike garolo is going to be paying even less attention than usual to what's going on on the show because his Fantasy Draft is kicking off right now also number two uh we're a little bit more dressed up not as casual as normal that's because the NFL game day season preview kicks off 1 hour from right now it's Rich Eisen it's CT Warner it's mooch it's the whole gang they're going to take you through the entire league but first you get an hour of us so let piece of the 49ers offense literally is back in the fold there's Trent Williams when you get paid as much as he does and when you're as important to a team you don't have to walk to practice somebody gives you a ride in the golf cart and it's all smiles they agree to terms on a revised three-year deal worth 82.6 million gives him 4 8 million in new guarantees essentially moves money up covers the millions and finds that he racked up and gives him those guarantees including a $25 million end chain signing bonus so what took so long Trent obviously I I didn't think it' go this long but you know it is what it is we we actually retained a really good rapport during during the whole time I was away um kept in contact with John and cal um you know so it was it was all business and know you know our friendship cows like family to me you know all that remained the same were you adding up the finds ever in your head no no I a trying not to think about it you know it's kind of it's one of the things where you kind of know you're going to leverage you going to it's a it's what you know for better lack of a better word it's kind of War both sides going to lose a little blood but you know way the white flag at the end we both signed a little peace treat and we good so this is always where this appeared to be headed Mike which was the 49ers were going to find a way give Trent Williams a little bump it's not really a new contract they did move money up in the deal to in part offset the millions of dollars and fines that Trent Williams racked up but it ends the way that we kind of anticipated which is Trent Williams is back and he's going to be ready to roll week one Tommy want a guaranteed money through next year he had none left on the deal remember he did the early part of this deal 21 22 23 so this was the non-g guaranteed portion of the deal so he wanted a little bit of a sweetener uh and he wanted guaranteed money moving forward as well he got both of that $48 million guaranteed according to his agent Vince Taylor uh of elite loyalty Sports uh he gets if you add in the previous guarantees to this now 103 million in total guarantees since joining the 49ers in 2021 on track to earn around 250 million in his a quarter of a billion dollars in his career uh Taylor has represented both Trent Williams and Jason Peters who made around $200 million over the course of his career so there's a lot of money to be had if you are an elite left tackle and that's what Trent Williams is so this one getting done right before the start of the season for all the consternation that we had with Brandon auk and Trent Williams all summer long both guys going to get a full week of practice leading up to this game against the Jets and when it comes to the left tackle it's not like a receiver oh how much is he going to play load manager he's the left tackle he's pretty much got to play the entire game and that is the expectation the ners had confidence he was going to stay in shape away from the team and that he did uh just that and some great leverage that TR Williams had because he's so good and if you are so good certainly one of the best left tackles in the NFL for more than a decade you can exert your leverage to do the things he did which is stay away from training camp and let the team know do you really mean business and for me guys and I could be wrong but this seemed like the one that would be more likely to last into the season than any of them because he is prideful he is stubborn which is not bad but he knows his value in the 49ers really did a nice job of finding that sweet spot so we talked about the overall fully guaranteed money and you're right Mike that's what he wanted this year and next year a year uh into his mid-30s again wanting a fully guaranteed contract but he also gets $27.6 million in salary this year that's $7 million more than he was on the books for add in 2 million or subtract I should say $2 million worth of fines and basically this hold out got Trent Williams $5 million this year and next year fully guaranteed to me that seems worth it and obviously we spent a lot of time Judy a lot of time talking about Brandon auk and his hold in and his contract this right here Trent Williams one of the best players in the NFL regardless of position this is as important as anything that has happened this offseason yeah getting Trent Williams in before the season starts is at least as important to the 49ers as getting Brandon auk in I was at the game in Cleveland when he got hurt last year when Trent Williams got hurt last year and you could see almost instantly when he left the field the offense started to decline that's how important it was we have spent all summer while we've been talking about brand and iuk especially saying that the 49ers are comfortable letting these contract situation go until late in the summer they've done it with some of their star players in previous years and now they've done it again but the bottom line is they are intact as the season starts and that's really important this is a team that is clearly in its Super Bowl window now doesn't matter who wins the negotiation they've got the players in the building they've got them practicing with a week to go before the start of the Season Well Done by all parties 6 days until the forign hours open up the season at home home against the Jets so just in the nick of time to get Trent Williams back in the fold Christian McCaffrey's contract was done months ago but he also had not been seen in a full capacity on the field in quite some time that changed today he suffered a cap strain back in the first week of training camp had been ramping up on the side getting closer the expectation all along as Kyle Shanahan said the day that McCaffrey's injury was revealed was that he would be ready to roll in week one by all accounts Ian m Jeffrey has looked good doing whatever it is he's been able to do on the side the fact that he's back in for effectively a bonus practice today certainly continues to show him on track for the opener Christian mcaf looks good doing everything one of the best players in the NFL the highest paid running back and of course we talked so much about the guys the 49ers didn't pay this guy also got paid this off season another bump after the huge extension the Carolina Panthers gave him and for sure he has earned it what has been evident about Christian Caffrey over the course of the last six or so years whatever it has been is that he knows how to get himself ready it is not always how everyone wants it's not always how let's say coaches would like there's been there have been some times when he maybe doesn't practice as the team would want he is always ready because he knows himself better than anyone so when he suffered a Cav injury early in Camp it was basically like you know what it's a Cav inury he's off the field when you see him back you'll know that he's fine they took a little extra time with it the fact that he hasn't practiced for sure is not really worrisome because he's that good so yes Christian mcaffrey Full Speed Ahead for this season and the fact that he got drafted first and I don't know basically every single fantasy drafted seen that probably makes a lot of people very happy Brandon auk also back that one was a little edgy for some of the fantasy owners making those draft picks here in recent weeks but he got his four-year $120 million contract extension he also rejoined his teammates on the field and he talked about exactly what happened toward the end here this deal got done I feel light I like I said I feel light I feel more ready than um if if it didn't go out this way so um I'm super excited feeling fresh feeling renewed coming with new energy so just excited to play football again there's no disappointment it's uh you know you've you've got you've got your roster you got the guys who are here and those are the guys you focus on you know and uh you know hopefully eventually he does get here and he gets here like I said we're going to embrace them we're going to love them we're going to we're going to do everything we can to put them in a a position to be successful to achieve the goals that he's trying to achieve as well as us but um but I I wouldn't call it disappointment it's like finding change in the couch I guess right but uh no he's he's a special football player and uh and when when he gets here when he eventually gets here uh it's he's he's only going to help us somewhere Hassan reic watching this segment saying hey if you find any change in the couch can you give it to me because I still want this contract addressed before I end up in the building here Judy this has been a standoff and a pretty unique one for months here the Jets also were back in for a bonus style practice today really Thursday is probably the cut off for Hassan reick to have any chance of playing in week one but at this point we might be getting into the territory where Assan reic could walk in as late as Sunday make sure he collects his check where where do you anticipate things go here in the coming days I think part of what makes this situation so odd is that you really don't have a read on how it's going to end and when it's going to end and what is going to bring it to an end um one note uh our good friend Brian costell from the New York Post noted that Hassan reck is doing a community event in Jersey City New Jersey right now he's giving out school supplies and backpacks to kids in the area so at least he's in the neighborhood uh he's in the state of New Jersey but beyond that uh it does not look very hopeful for him getting there in time to play uh in Monday night's season opener against the 49ers there's nowhere uh for the Jets they have not had any kind of communication any certainly there's been no attempt to negotiate a contract and again it is hard to see what and and he is obviously not going to come in uh without some sort of adjustment to the contract so this is a star down uh we mentioned this the other day we saw this with Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs last year where he watched the game from a luxury box with his agent right next to him and every time that the chief's defense struggled the television camera went to Chris Jones and lo and behold very soon after that he was back with the Kansas City Chiefs perhaps it takes something like that on either side to get them to move but right now nothing that was wild the Jets will negotiate with players who are in their building and they got a deal done today within the past hour agreeing terms with their standout slot Corner Michael Carter II on a three-year $3.75 million extension it could be worth up to 33 million with incentives including 199 million in total guarantees that makes Carter now the highest paid slot Corner in the NFL on that deal that was done by Kelton krenshaw of clutch Sports Group you know I would ask if Mike might be able to make the short drive over to Jersey City and try to track down Hassan reic but I think he's got better things to do right now I don't know about better things to do I've got things to do the pick is it three pick [Music] [Music] foree spee foreign spee foreign spee spech speech speech for for for spe for for e
